Research reveals the following, and I quote: “QD-OLED is a new technology that has better colors, brightness and possibly higher peak brightness”. That being said, I totally agree with that statement. As per the manufacturer, this monitor has a 4K UHD resolution, a rapid 240HZ refresh rate, and a swift 0.3ms response time. It supports Free-Sync technology and features HDR capabilities, including Dolby Vision and HDR600. All of these statistics and hardware enhance my gaming experience. This monitor is built for speed as it handled whatever "games" I threw-at-it with ease with no noticeable lag, bog-down and or ghosting. The stand assembled with a single hand-tightening of a single screw. The monitor has an adjustable stand which enables me to view the screen at my perfect viewing level. All of the controls are easily accessible and positioned perfectly. I found the stand to be sturdy in nature, which tilts and swivels on demand. This monitors display is just gorgeous and has great color accuracy. The factory-calibrated display required no additional adjustments and was just perfect right out of the box. Colors are amazingly vivid and accurate as I haven't experienced in the past. It has awesome color definitions coupled with amazing color clarity. No matter what viewing angle I tried, results were fantastic. The monitor has several ports such as 1 DisplayPort, 2 HDMI 2.0 Ports and a USB 3.2 hub.The new "QD"-OLED monitor technology delivers a stunning visual experience, color accuracy, superior brightness, and deep contrast that surpasses traditional OLED and LED panels. I am highly impressed with this monitor, and I love everything about it. Its ultra-wide view coupled with its superb QD-OLED display offers a top-notch gaming experience. This Alienware AW3425DW is most definitely a class-act worthy of ownership and should be considered for hardcore gamers and ordinary users alike. This is absolutely a beautiful product! Highly recommended. Less

I have a dedicated computer for photo and video editing, a computer for audio production, and a laptop for web browsing, that also doubles as my gaming computer. This review is about the excellent Alienware 34” ultra wide gaming monitor, which I have connected to my gaming laptop. I’ve been wanting an ultra wide monitor for more immersive gaming, but also wanted the monitor to have great resolution, to be bright, to have a fast refresh rate, and to showcase vivid, yet accurate colors. I have to admit, the specs of the Alienware 3425DW monitor were intriguing and ultimately, this monitor has surpassed all of my expectations.Upon receiving the monitor, the first thing I noticed was that the box was pretty huge and the monitor was packed carefully inside. The unboxing and setup process was so easy, I was up and running in only a few minutes. When I powered it on for the first time, I was greeted with the Alienware logo, then a default message stating that the monitor was factory color calibrated and ready to go. I connected my gaming laptop and fired up DOOM for some intense testing and a lot of fun. Once I configured DOOM’s settings for the 21:9 aspect ratio and selected 3440x1440, it was a glorious sight to behold. I experienced everything I had been hoping to see performance wise. It was literally hours before I got up from my seat. With the 240Hz refresh rate, I experienced ZERO tearing, or latency issues. DOOM is a very demanding, high action, fast paced FPS game, and it ran flawlessly, looked bright, sharp, and vibrant. Needless to say, it looks absolutely incredible with max video settings. I sit about 2-3 feet from my monitor, so having a curved screen with this type of performance makes gaming much more visually immersive than the standard non-curved flat screen I was previously using. This display is very easy on the eyes! The colors and brightness I witnessed playing DOOM were about the best I have seen on any gaming monitor I have owned. This monitor can display 99.3% of the DCI-P3 color space, which is important if you want accurate colors and rich vibrancy. Rated for up to 1000 nits brightness, this monitor also produces deep blacks and white whites, making the gaming experience that much more enjoyable. If that wasn’t enough, the Alienware 3425DW is also NVIDIA G-Sync and AMD FreeSync compatible out of the box, which helps to eliminate screen tearing even more by matching the refresh rate to your GPU of choice.Included in the box were cables for high speed HDMI, a Display Port cable, and a USB A to B cable. It was also nice to see that the power cable was only a single IEC cable, instead of having a power brick in-between. Thank you, Alienware! The ports are abundant and more than enough for my needs. You get two HDMI ports, a Display Port, a USB Type B upstream port, a USB Type A downstream port, and a USB Type C downstream port that also includes 15 watt charging.Taking all of that into consideration, there are a few things I would love to see changed on future versions of this monitor series, starting with the port placement. If you use this monitor on a desk, but want to plug in cables, it is pretty difficult to see the ports since they are on the bottom. I would much prefer the ports to be on the back of the monitor instead. That way, you can just swivel the monitor on its stand and look around back, instead of picking it up to see the bottom, tilting it back on its base, or trying to get your head under it to see them. I would also have preferred the resolution to be a full 5120x2160, but I know that would also put it in a different price range and category all together. My main reason for this is that text would be much more sharp, and I could also then use it more comfortably for photo and video editing if needed.I do love the look and performance of this monitor. It does exactly what I need it to do as my extended laptop gaming monitor. If I had the desk space, I would get a second one to have the ultimate curved dual display experience. If you get the chance to see this in-person at a local Best Buy, I would highly recommend it!***PROS***240 Hz refresh rate, G-Sync, and FreeSync for stable, tear free gamingGreat resolution and color accuracy for top tier gamingVery bright with deep blacks and white whitesUltra-Wide angle for immersive gaming***CONS***I would have preferred 5120x2160 resolutionPort location is difficult to see Less

Pair that with a superior OLED panel and nothing even comes close in my opinion.Dell has been making monitors forever and they are extremely good at what they do and these OLED panels are no different. They include a 3-year premium panel replacement with the purchase of these particular model so if there is any issue with even a single pixel they will replace it. This is exactly the kind of support I would expect to receive from a premium product.Overall, the monitor looks sharp. The stand and monitor is a super dark blue and feels sturdy. It all has this sort of curve floating alien ship esthetic that you would expect from an Alienware product. The RGB is there but feels subdued compared to other Alienware products. It’s not flashy, but gives you the ability to customize the RBG power button and alien head on the back of the monitor. Frankly you aren’t going to be looking at the RGB as you’ll be completely immersed in the picture! To make the most use of this monitor you’re going to want to make sure you’re using a GPU from the latest 2 generations. In my case I’m using a Radeon 7900XT. But no matter whether you choose a card from team green or red, this monitor supports both G-Sync and FreeSync Premium Pro, so you won’t have any screen tear and will be able to experience HDR visuals regardless of where your loyalty lies.I tested Call of Duty Warzone with everything set to max and was able to achieve a pretty stable 210-240 Hz without issue and the game looks so much smoother than I had ever experienced it before. It’s truly hard to describe how fluid and how much more connected to the game I feel compared to a monitor at 60 Hz. Less

My eyes are very sensitive to refresh rate and it bothers me to have anything below 100Hz.Now when it comes to splitting this screen, Windows 11 has nice built-in features to split it many different ways. If I am working on it I like the 33-33-33 split. When gaming though I like it all on one screen, unless my game does not support extra wide play. Picture-by-Picture (PbP) is a fantastic addition, allowing you to display content from two different sources simultaneously. However, when utilizing the Picture-by-Picture feature, I could only get the display to run at a refresh rate of 60Hz. While this is fine for many applications, it's something to be aware of if you're a high-refresh-rate purist who demands more than that. For most productivity tasks and even some casual viewing, 60Hz in PbP mode won't be an issue, but it's a detail worth noting for the hardcore gamers out there. The OLED display delivers beautiful, vibrant, accurate colors that leap off the screen. I swear sometimes some of the red on my screen looked like there was a light on, not just part of the screen. The ultrawide aspect ratio is an incredibly immersive field of view, making every game and even my spreadsheets feel more expansive. The AW3425DW has a good amount of ports that are more than enough for me, two HDMI 2.1, a DP 1.4, and a Type-C with power delivery. Note - the Type-C connection is not a video input, power delivery only, but it will charge my laptop so that makes one less plug in my surge strip.Overall, this Alienware AW3425DW is a really impressive monitor that is a visual feast for the eyes. The deep, inky blacks are a game-changer for content consumption, and the Picture-by-Picture is a great feature, I just wish it could run at a higher refresh rate, though the overall 240Hz is mind bendingly smooth. I have never owned a monitor with such an amazing screen before. Less

It is still a comfortable field of view, and I suspect I’ll find it to be more intuitive than that of its predecessor. The monitor supports a good amount of I/O, including two HDMI 2.1 inputs, a Display Port 1.4 input (which I am using). There is a USB Type B upstream port that must be connected to your PC or laptop to enable the USB Type A (5 Gbps) and USB Type C (also 5 Gbps and supports up to 15W charging) ports that are located on the bottom of the monitor - hiding in plain sight. The “joystick” used for configuring the display is located on the bottom of the monitor, dead center. Press the joystick (press toward the ceiling) brings up the on-screen display, and you can walk through the very intuitive menu options to configure the display to your liking.Looking at the screen – wow. Yes, that’s a qualitative assessment, but you’ll love the bright screen and clarity of font rendering from your PC or laptop. For its price, you’d be hard pressed to find a better display. Less

Like any OLED display, the blacks are true black and combined with the shiney screen, it just looks fantastic. So it looks awesome, that’s like 80% of it right, but what about the other things? Well, when I was researching this monitor, I saw big tech reviewers complain about no USB C power out, or a switch to go between two pcs easily. And I think they’re complaints are valid, but those are kind of unique features that, yes may be found in other similar monitors, but it seems Alienware made the choice to cut the more unique niche features to help bring down the price. What you’re left with is a very affordable monitor with no sacrifice to visuals. The menu is accessible via the joystick at the center bottom of the screen and has a lot of options that honestly, after a week of using it, I still haven’t really figured out everything there is to do yet. Mostly that’s because the calibration seems pretty good out of the box, and also the menu is a little hard to navigate. But that’s pretty much every monitor I’ve ever owned. Fiddling with those joysticks or awkward fumbling with buttons trying to figure out which one does what. So I’m not really knocking anything here for a bad menu system. I do plan to dive into it deeper this week when I have more time and see what can all be done, but suffice it to say, all the standard settings are there. The unique 21:9 aspect ratio, compared to a 16:9 standard wide screen, is just the right size in my opinion. There are tons of games and movies that play in that ratio whereas larger screens can sometimes end up with letterboxing or pillarboxing. I also found the ratio is great to use like two smaller screens. You obviously won’t end up with two widescreen formats next to each other, but you can still easily have two browsers side by side, or more room for vertical chat windows, etc.The other reason I love the aspect ratio is for video editing. Seems like more and more people are picking this up as a “hobby” and trying to influence us all on something, but I do it for a living on a professional level and at work I have tons of monitor space, but at home, it’s been a struggle. Now I have a nice long timeline I can look at and see the visuals more accurately. It’s also great for photo editing with more canvas space to work around.Windows 11 had no issues recognizing the display or automatically setting up the ratio etc. The HDR settings are there as well, but honestly, I haven’t messed much with that yet.Gaming is the same story, a lot of games support the aspect ratio like I said, and there’s so much more to see with this wide view. And bonus, the OLED makes it all look better too. So now you can see more, and see it better, what’s not to love?!The packaging was also not worthy. The monitor was very well packaged, I had 0 concern there would any damage of any kind. The cardboard used to package it was also really easy to tear down. Most of it was tight rolled to make strong padding but could easily be unrolled to flatten and fit in the recycling bin. The box is fairly large but still light and easy to carry.OVERALL:Overall I am loving this display. I was on the fence a bit, since I have so many monitors now, most of which are over 8 years old and outdated, but hey, they still work. Well, they might work, but this display looks way better, has a wider screen size, and isn’t so large you can’t get it on the desk.I forgot to mention, but I also have this mounted on the standard VESA mount with no issues. I have an arm for two monitors and have a second monitor, vertical, next to this one. The curve is just right that it doesn’t look weird, but still has a wrapping feel. There’s just nothing I’ve found to dislike about this monitor yet. It twitches every few minutes (as planned) to protect it from any burn in issues, which is noticeable but not distracting. You can turn it off, but I don’t know why you would want to.I think the price is great, it’s so low I was worried there was something wrong with the display, but like I said earlier, I think this is just because Alienware choose to keep the price low by dropping some of the less important bells and whistles. This makes it a perfect monitor for someone who only needs a good display and doesn’t care about a few unique features missing. Less

I have a 27" 4k Asus ROG OLED monitor for gaming and even that one is nearly 2 inches less tall than this when they are both as far down as they can be pressed. I was initially testing this on my Surface Pro 11 on the dining table to see what it would be like having an external monitor here - and this would never work here, it blocks the view of the TV in the great room that is off of the dining room. So I took this into the gaming room to put on the desk with my Asus Rog Strix 18" gaming laptop that has an Nvidia 4080. The way the desk is situated, this will JUST fit on the small riser behind the monitor to the right, without either monitor blocking the other. Should make for some good FPS gaming.Hooking up is simple. I had all the plugs already there from where I pulled out the ROG 27" monitor. HDMI, USB link to the laptop, a USB C hookup for my Focusrite Scarlett audio interface, a charging plug for my game controller... My laptop saw it right away, let me get the HDR enabled, and I saw it already had the 240Hz refresh rate enabled. Started a bit of windows work, just to see how it worked with normal windows apps. And it was great. I've got the 49" Samsung G9 OLED at work, and it's an amazing monitor, but all I do there is work off of my Surface Pro, so no games... I really appreciate this form factor for multiple monitor work in Windows, some office apps open on the widescreen while I have RDP sessions on the laptop screen. Then I finally was able to fire up Steam to see how it would do with gaming. It was nice to see one of these ultrawide screens in a gaming context. With the 4080 in my laptop, I play my games at all the highest settings, and this handled those just fine. I spent an hour or so in various FPS games, and then settled down for some Destiny 2 for a few days. The colors are vibrant, the contrast is just amazing. The blacks are gorgeous. I've always loved OLED screens, and for gaming they are the bomb.No issues at all, no tearing, no jumpiness even with the most violent horizontal spinning and movement, nothing bad at all. Response was great. That wider vision for FPS games gives a bit more immersion. And despite anything I've used it for so far, gaming or windows, I've had no hiccups at all. Even my Samsung G9 still randomly is a problem at work. This thing has been rock solid and taking anything I throw at it.The vertical adjustment works fine, a bit tight but that's good, I don't feel like at some point in the future after a year or two of use it may start sagging. When I first was testing this with the Surface Pro in my dining room with patio doors in behind me at an angle, I had no issues with reflections. There's a bright tall work lamp right next to it and even with that turned on and the long LED strip pointed straight at the monitor, you could see it, but muted, not at all like most screens are with reflections. The surface of the screen is so much better than, say, my Surface Pro... And in my gaming room where it ended up, where I have blackout blinds, it's just pure joy to the eyes. The toggle joystick for menu navigation works well, and there are so many options in there to work through. So far I've not done much other than changing to a few of the built in profiles to see, but I've not had to adjust anything at all to make this usable out of the box. The 27" Rog OLED that I mentioned I got a few months ago, that one took quite a bit of tweaking before people looked like people. Every available profile was just so heavy on the red. I spent about 20 minutes trying to find a good color balance before I thought the picture was acceptable. But this one? Nothing. Each profile looks great to me as is.I loved that ROG monitor for gaming. The only thing my laptop didn't have was the OLED part, so it was great having that second screen to game on instead. But after using this one now, the other is going to be relegated to the dining table as an external monitor for my Surface Pro 11 to make my remote desktop sessions easier to deal with. I've often told people that once they try an OLED, they'll be ruined for anything else. And apparently that goes for these ultrawide screens as well. Sure, I've been using one at work for about a year and a half, and absolutely LOVE it, but I never looked at it from a gaming perspective, it was always just my work monitor. But now that I've been gaming on this for a few days, I just can't see going back to the standard aspect ratio. If you want a great refresh rate, and gorgeous blacks that you can only get with an OLED, and an ultra wide screen, this is the monitor you were looking for. Physically, it’s a solid piece of design.Of course, the real issue is the display, and the QD-OLED screen is beautiful. The resolution is 3440 x 1440 and the maximum refresh rate is 240 Hz with a response time as little as 0.03ms. It has NVIDIA G-Sync, AMD Freesync Premium Pro, and a host of connectivity … 2-HDMI, 1-DP, 3-USB up and down. There are no built-in speakers, but I can’t imagine anyone using this monitor without a seriously good sound system including sub-woofer. The setting and adjustments are extensive, and all accessed from the single bottom mounted joystick. I’ve played a bit with them, but the defaults and auto settings seem excellent. I did back the brightness and contrast down since this screen can get very bright and my office has muted lighting. This is a beast of a gaming monitor that can handle any game giving an immersive experience, but it’s also an excellent choice for creative work and video editing. It’s not exactly cheap, but for all it offers, it’s a very good deal. Less

title: Beautiful QD-OLED, immersive for gaming/creative work
detailedReviews 9: content: TL;DR - It's a beautiful screen, the stand is a bit cheap feeling, but far from a deal breaker. The colors, response, and controls are so nice! I love this monitor and I am willing to bet you will to!---This is my first experience with an ultrawide! And I’m kind of 50/50 on how I feel about it as a whole! To clarify, I’m referring to the whole ultrawide experience, the monitor itself is top notch! I love to play single player games, JRPGs, RPGs, Action, Adventure, etc., and some of those are less than mainstream titles, and those in particular seem to have the two black bars on the side. With this being a QD-OLED, it makes me nervous that it’ll eventually have screen burn-in. I’m also not as stressed about it because it comes with a 3-year warranty for burn-in ... With this being a QD-OLED, it makes me nervous that it’ll eventually have screen burn-in. I’m also not as stressed about it because it comes with a 3-year warranty for burn-in and it has mitigations for it out of the box. I do want to use this monitor for more than 3-years, so this will eventually become an issue right? I don’t know the answer to that and that uncertainty makes me uncomfortable. All that said, this monitor itself is freakin’ AMAZING! Just the colors, the deep blacks, and the motion fluidity and response rate is all so good! I feel like this is the missing piece in my set up! And when games support ultrawide resolution, it’s seriously so immersive! When I first started using it, I used it for my Linux desktop and was pleasantly surprised that Fedora works with it. But thought this would not be the best use case for a media “server” slash coding practicing machine. I threw my gaming PC on the monitor and started with Metaphor: ReFantazio which is a 16:9 game, despite it having a 3440x1440 resolution in the settings. I couldn’t figure out how to get it to fill the screen. Because of that I was kind of disappointed with the monitor for gaming. I assumed all games would look like this despite it having the full ultrawide resolution. I quickly learned that this isn’t the case and only some games would do this.Playing BLOPS 6 was kind of a surreal experience. The immersion was incredible. It actually started to get me that VR motion sickness for awhile. I quickly adjusted though, but that’s how crazy that first experience was for me. Switch over to Khazan and wow just wow! It went from a good looking game to an incredible looking game with just a screen change.I also like how you can turn it off with a button on the far right, instead of using the single nub to navigate to an off button like some monitors do. This means you can quickly turn it off and leave your computer on to save screen time on the monitor instead of waiting for Windows to sleep your computer. This is all assuming Steam or something isn’t preventing your screen from sleeping. You can bypass all that by just turning it off real quick with a touch of a button!Long story short, some games don’t support the ultrawide format, and that makes me nervous only because I don’t know how it’ll be in the long run, but assuming it’s all been accounted for by the engineers, the day to day usage of this monitor is amazing, I love it and couldn’t be happier to have this! detailedReviews 10: content: If you are looking for a monitor to up your gaming experience, then I would recommend looking no further. The Alienware AW3425DW (You would think they would come up with a better name), has been one of the best gaming monitors I have tested out so far. The ultra-fast refresh rate (240 Hz), low latency (0.03 ms), 34-inches of prime rea estate and that beautiful curve takes your gaming experience to another level. Honestly, I had an older gaming monitor that I was using before I received this one and the difference was night and day, truly made my gaming more enjoyable. The design on this monitor is not bad either. It comes with a space saving stand that puts together in minutes without any tools. It will take you longer to take everything out of the packaging than putting this thing together, that’s how fast and simple it is. It also offers a variety of menu options to personalize your gaming experience, such as AlienFX lighting, PIP/PBP, and something called Alien vision which is a neat feature if you’re into FPS games.Ports:1 x Display Port 1.42 x HDMI 2.11 x USB-B1 x USB- A1 X USB – CNote: HDMI, Display port and USB-A to UBS-B cables are provided. To sum it up, the display is absolutely the highlight of this monitor. If you care about visuals with smooth game play, then this is it. You get an amazing gaming monitor that will bring any gamer to tears. Less
