detailedReviews: detailedReviews 1: content: GOPRO 13 :
CONCLUSION :

And I have taken it to a bicycle ride; I ran with it and also took pictures and video while hiking and here are my thoughts. so let me explain while I try to keep it short. The Hero 13 Black supports 5.3K video recording at 60 frames per second and with this high resolution not only does it show sharp and amazing detail on any adventure, it is flexible post production so you can show your videos on different social media platforms either landscape or portrait and they will look professional made. With the HB Series lenses that are available for the camera, I can be ready for different occasions, between the Macro lens mod, Ultra-Wide lens Mod, Anamorphic lens mod and the ND filter 4 pack they all enhance every occasion with their versatility. The GoPro’s HyperSmooth stabilization has been improved even more on the 13 Black. With HyperSmooth provides amazing stabilization, videos come out smooth and steady I took it cycling on a bumpy ride and it looks super smooth.I also like how easy it is to change from slow motion, to time-lapse to photo and regular video. The Hero 13 Black has also further improved the audio quality with the option to add an external microphone. This is a great feature for people like me, either while vlogging or creating content that need clear sound. I can use either AirPods, Bluetooth earbuds or just a wireless mic. It also records in stereo using its 3 microphones. With a 1900mAh Enduro battery the Hero 13 Black offers extended recording times in return there is more time to enjoy the adventure and less worry about the battery life. Up to 2.5 hours of continuous recording in 1080p, just keep in mind that this battery is not compatible with older GoPros. And something that helps charging without taking the battery off is the magnetic door and power cable kit, sold separately but available. As for connectivity, the inclusion of Wi-Fi 6 technology it is much faster, over 40 percent faster is a lot more. Also it connects via Bluetooth to connect as well as give it commands remotely using your voice. The GPS is just amazing, now I no longer have to try to match where I have taken the pictures or videos, the guessing is over specially when I am in visiting a new place. The camera supports Hybrid Log Gamma High Dynamic Range video so it delivers better video with good detail.Overall, there are many other functions to enjoy and while I try to keep my review short, I hope it helps you discover more functions, most of my previous GoPro accessories do fit the new GoPro 13 Black, except the batteries and there are other accessories that are new and I am happy to enjoy this upgrade, it is worth it. It’s optional whether or not to enable it, but many people (myself included) find it to be very useful. As far as innovations go, the interchangeable lenses are the biggest deal, but since I only have the lens that came with the camera there’s nothing more for me to say at this time. Another has to do with some new available accessories. One is a magnetic mount that snaps to the bottom of the camera. This allows you to mount the camera using a standard GoPro mount but then quickly snap the camera itself off and on. There is also an available replacement side door that has contacts for supplying external power using a cable that snaps onto the outside of the door. This is superior to the older “USB pass-thru” door that was not watertight and allows the camera to be used with an external power pack while filming underwater or in other wet conditions. I’m not sure if this door is compatible with older cameras or not.You have to supply your own high-speed micro-SD card, and after installing that and the included (and larger) camera battery, the initial setup goes quickly, assisted by the “Quik” smartphone app. Once the latest software update is installed and a few other questions are answered, you are good to go! There are a lot of available settings for the camera and for each of the various modes that it operates in, but GoPro thoughtfully has the most commonly-used settings packaged up in what they call “Easy Controls” as opposed to the “Pro Controls”.The main capture modes for the camera are Photo, Video, and Time Lapse. I’ll be using the camera mostly for video and in the time I’ve had it that’s the only mode that I’ve explored in any detail, but I can see that Time Lapse could be fun to play with in the future. It even has a way to set the camera up overnight facing up to make a time-lapse video of “star trails” rotating across the sky. There are also some interesting video options such as the slow-motion capability. Slow motion in a video or film is done by shooting the scene at a higher frame rate than normal so that when it’s played back at normal speed it looks slowed down. The Hero 13 can shoot bursts of video at an astounding 240 frames per second; when played back at the standard 30fps the motion is slowed down by a factor of 8x! This can only be done in short bursts since it understandably tends to overheat the camera. After taking videos there are a number of options for how to save and/or edit them. The camera can be connected by USB to a computer for direct copying of the files, which are in MP4 format. It is also possible to have them automatically upload to the GoPro cloud service, although a subscription is necessary for that useful feature. The Quik app on a smartphone or tablet is another a good way to upload them and has a lot of decent editing features. The two limitations of these cameras are the storage size of the SD card and the battery capacity. The battery issue can be alleviated either by carrying extra batteries or by attaching a power bank to the USB port, which requires either a pass-thru door or the new magnetic connection door. There are an endless number of applications for an action camera, but I’m sure that mine is one of the less common. I got this mainly so that I can make videos from my bicycle that can be used to create rides for a popular indoor cycling app. When processed, users of the app worldwide will be able to ride my routes on their indoor bike trainers with the same effort that it takes to ride them “in real life”. This requires me to take video with 4K resolution and a 16:9 (Wide) aspect ratio at 60 frames per second with Hypersmoothing. That frame rate allows the app to speed up or slow down the playback according to the effort that the rider is exerting. GoPro Hero cameras are the only ones certified for taking these videos and the Hero 13 Black is the latest that’s been approved. I haven’t had time to film a full-length route as yet but my early testing has had excellent results. I’m especially impressed by the way that the “hypersmoothing” feature completely takes out the small bumps from the cracks and tar strips in the pavement and am looking forward to doing a full-length ride with the Hero 13 Black in the near future. No matter if you’re an experienced action camera user with an older model GoPro (or other brand) or are new to all this as I was, you can’t go wrong with this easy-to-use and powerful new product! Lots of different uses. What makes a GoPro useful for those things is its durability, water resistance, small size, the ecosystem of mounts, and the excellent stabilization of the video.GoPro has operated much like the smartphone market the last 10 years. A steady improvement every year or two, yet not a big reason to jump from one to the next. But if you're using an older model, you will see some substantial improvements. For example, over my older GoPro hero 7, with this 13 black I now get a selfie video screen, I get much better stabilization. I get a built in GPS, I get a bigger battery, I get an all in one package, I get a proper tripod mount in addition to the standard GoPro mounting. I get improved video quality and photo quality.I found the unboxing experience to be pleasant due to the simple materials without a lot of plastic.Upon setting up the camera I was told to download the app. The app on my iPhone worked well and I was able to control the camera and if I wanted to, view and download video footage. To do the video/photo download you have to connect the phone to the camera's wifi network, but this was a seamless process. There is also an optional subscription service to upload footage to the cloud.I also found I had to enable the advanced settings on the camera, otherwise I couldn't tweak many of the settings. Once enabled, all the expected controls were there such as video resolution, frame rate, as well as more advanced settings like shutter speed or time lapse intervals.I really appreciate having the built in GPS.If you don't need the action oriented use, there isn't much to be gained with an action camera like a GoPro.However, I'd highly recommend the Hero 13 black to anyone who needs an action camera or who uses an older GoPro but would like to have some improvement to video quality, stabilization, battery life, or who wants some of the other improvements like the built in GPS or selfie screen. It could be cleaned up during editing though.Stabilization and HyperSmooth stabilization is great, as if you were using a gimbal. GoPro restores the built in GPS, previously removed from the last model. For those who has bought 3rd party batteries, please stick with the brand-name. It has a magnetic charger (optional) and this allows you to power the camera with an external power source and doing so without opening the battery door and it’s waterproof, too. If you’re unfamiliar with the door, visit their website for a better understanding and to avoid causing any damage.Like many things you buy nowadays, it doesn’t come with a manual. It’s all on line and you don’t just charge it, pick it up and use it without studying it carefully because there are so many settings you can do with this camera.New Lens Options consist of new lens attachments that communicate electronically with the camera. Most people may not need them, but they are there to purchase later. Wider lens, macro (for close up shot), ultra-wide for wider shot, and anamorphic to do a cinemetic wide screen look (black bars on top and bottom.) You put it on and the camera knows it’s there. Make sure it’s securely on tightly or it won’t be weatherproof any more!According to the website, you can get the magnetic mount for faster (and easier) attachment and removal. (For example, if you want to attach it to the bike, and move it to the helmet). And yes, you can use this camera as is still photography camera. Think of it as something that cost 10 percents of another digital camera with the big red dot in the front with built-in wide angle lens.It is recommended that you download their app (Android and Apple) to control the camera. Unfortunately I have an older Samsung phone, and the app does not work with it. Apparently it can upload the footage to the cloud, too. There is a desktop version for Mac, but not for Windows yet.I use a high end program to edit my videos (this came with a cinema camera that I bought last year). While a GoPro is not a cinema camera (nameless here..), it weights A LOT less. What you get in the box is not enough to do much though. You will need many accessories to be more productive (for example, selfie stick, little tripod, microphone with a deadcat, more memory card, and yes, it comes with one, extra batteries, and a waterproof box if you want to go swimming with it.) It’s waterproof, but if you want to be sure, it’s better to get one of those external box to really make sure (and put a silica gel pack so it won’t get foggy inside). You can even get a floating handle too, in case you “drop” it.Is it a good buy? If you want it - if you need it. It takes practice to produce good work. It looks like a toy, but it isn’t. There is an optional extended warranty you can buy and they will replace the camera in case you break it. It is highly suggested. This camera or anything else that are much more expensive does not make you instantly Stanley Kubrick – people say practice makes perfect – it's not quite like that. Background in photography and a bit in cinematography will be helpful. It is rather, perfect practice makes perfect.) Less

I still have my GoPro Hero 8 Black from 2019, and it’s been a reliable and stable workhorse all these years. With the release of the Hero 13 Black, I’ve finally upgraded, and I’m quite pleased with all the improvements the company has made. The biggest improvement for me has been the quality of the video. With 5.3K60, 4K120, and 2.7K240 options, the visual upgrade has been very noticeable. The HyperSmooth 6.0 video stabilization produces excellently smooth and even footage, and although low-light situations are still a challenge for the Hero 13 Black’s sensor, it’s not as grainy and muddy as before. At least the colors appear more true to life and accurate. The HDR mode helps bring out the details in shadowy scenes, and I found it to perform its best under a bright environment.A neat feature I really dig is the Slo-Mo speeds on offer – 2x 5.3K/60fps, 4x 4K/120fps, and 8x 2.7K/240fps. It’s been really fun capturing my 9yo daughter do her Taekwondo kicks and punches and breaking boards.Other features I like about the Hero 13 is the built-in GPS, faster 5GHz Wi-Fi transfer speeds, the heatsink located underneath the camera that extends uptime and prevents overheating-related shutdowns, and the improved Quick Capture button. The Quik app is still intuitively laid out and easy to use, and I prefer using the app to make settings changes. Transferring photos and videos from the camera to the app or the phone is simple and fast. The battery life is okay, and the charging time is still on the relatively slow side. There is one new feature about Hero 13 that I haven’t tried out, and it’s the new interchangeable lens system that auto-communicates with the camera for automatic setup and calibration, such as the ultra-wide, macro, anamorphic, and ND filters. I’m mainly interested in the ultra-wide lens, and I’ll probably pick one up when it goes on sale, hopefully around the Black Friday timeframe.I’ve only had my Hero 13 Black for about a week, but it’s been so far so good. If my experience with my Hero 8 Black is any indication, then the Hero 13 Black will become a reliable and valuable companion that captures and stores our precious family adventures and memories for many years to come. I give it 4.5 Stars. Less

I shot some off road footage in my Tacoma, and even though my tacoma was all over the place, the HyperSmooth 6.0 stabilization kept everything steady. It was very impressive.Battery Life - Good but Could Be BetterLet’s talk battery. The 1,900mAh Enduro battery lasted longer than I expected, but I wish it would stretch further. I got about an hour and a half shooting in 5.3K, which is good, but if you're on an all-day adventure, you’ll want to carry an extra battery or two. When I dropped down to 1080p, it lasted closer to 2.5 hours, which is nice, but who’s going to shoot in 1080p when you’ve got 5.3K right there?Easy to Use, If You WantThis camera has two modes: Easy Mode for the “I don’t care, just make it work” people, and Pro Mode for those who like to tinker with every little setting. I’m somewhere in between. I love that you can set up custom presets, so I made a few for different activities (biking, off-roading, random videos of my kids) and now I can just switch between them without thinking too hard.Wi-Fi and Bluetooth: Good, Not GreatHere’s a cool thing: Wi-Fi 6! Transferring files is faster than ever, but is it really 40% faster like they say? Meh, maybe, but not enough that I was blown away. It’s still way better than older models though. Also, the Bluetooth audio feature is fun. I hooked up my wireless mic for better sound, but honestly, the built-in mic isn’t bad at all. Of course, you have to have a WiFi 6 capable router to take advantage of the faster transfer speeds. Luckily I do. Very awesome addition GoPro!Night Modes and Cool EffectsIf you’re into nighttime photography, the Night Effects are something else. I tried out the Star Trails mode, and while I didn’t exactly create a masterpiece, the feature is cool if you want to try something creative. If you like playing with light, it’s definitely a feature worth exploring. As a photographer, I love expanding my creativity and I feel this GoPro is going to allow me to enhance and expand my creativity.DurabilityThis thing is built to last. I dunked it in water, dropped it on some rocks, and it’s still kicking. It’s waterproof up to 33 feet, which I tested while diving. The footage looked great underwater, and I didn’t have to worry about a thing. Plus, it’s rugged enough to handle pretty much whatever you throw at it.Needed ImprovementsPlease implement fast charging. I repeat, please implement some sort of fast charging. It's time. We are limited on battery due to the small package that all of this technology is packed in. The biggest advantage to a small battery with limited time is some sort of quick charging feature to allow folks to get another 80% in 30-40 minutes. This is so crucial for the consumer.Another issue, overheating. This has been an issue in action cameras for a long time. This is also something that still exists with GoPro and it's an unfortunate truth. The manufacturers have yet to solve this problem. Figure that out. It will separate you from the competition.Who’s It For?If you’re the type of person who likes to document every adrenaline-pumping second of life or even just take really high-quality videos of your kids, this camera will make you happy. For the price, you’re getting an insane amount of tech. It’s a beast of a camera. So yeah, in short: if you’re serious about action shots or just want the latest and greatest GoPro to flex on social media, the Hero 13 Black is your new best friend. Less

The quality of the image and the stabilization made for some great video that doesn’t make you motion sick when you play it back.It has a nice self mode and the voice activation makes it easier to operate when your hands are otherwise occupied. The companion app for my iPhone is excellent and easy to use. The fact that it’s BlueTooth enabled helps with accessories like microphones and such. I’d be lying if I said there isn’t some learning curve, but there are some excellent resources from both GoPro and users online that will make it a lot easier. Do yourself a favor and find a 1 hour tutorial. It’s a life saver. The color accuracy is very nice. Pretty true to what my eye sees. I will say that it isn’t super great in very low light. It’s fine in low light, but very low light, not so much. It’s not a deal breaker, as most cameras struggle in that environment. One of the things GoPro does in their marketing model is offer accessories. In particular, lenses and filter for different tones, shots, and environments. Unlike the previous generation of the GoPro, the 13 Black knows what lens you put on it and automatically optimizes settings so you don’t have to be a photography pro to use the camera. It’s worth noting that this new feature requires you to purchase lenses compatible with the 13 Black. Older lenses won’t fit. On a positive note, this has the same dimensions as the last model, so things like cases, mounts, and sticks are still good to go.I’m happy with the battery life. There is a trade off here to understand. The GoPro is better in cold weather than it’s competitors. Some other cameras won’t even turn on if it gets really cold. The GoPro is likely to be just fine if you mount it to a helmet for a few hours of skiing. The trade off I mentioned, is that it take longer to charge than other cameras. Like 50% longer. It’s a different battery technology as far as I can tell. Not a problem if you plan ahead, but something to understand up front. GoPro also seems to have made good progress on the heat sync front. I haven’t had the camera shut down in no air flow situations like some of the older models. That’s a great upgrade. The only thing I don’t love is the cost of some of the accessories. You can spend a lot of money gearing this thing up if you aren’t careful. Before you pull the trigger on the camera, think about how you intend to use it, and price out the extras you’ll need. If you do a little homework and plan for the accessories, I think you’ll really enjoy this camera. I can’t wait to use it while fishing for Musky this fall in the Northwoods. I highly recommend it for some engaging action content. Less

Front and rear LED displays offer live color view. The rear LED is touch-enabled to allow quick access to camera settings. The fold-down mounting legs do not require a separate shell. The HERO13 uses a newly designed 1,900 mAh battery that is NOT compatible with older models.GoPro Quik Design:The GoPro Quik app is designed to allow control of the HERO13 using a smartphone. It is easy to setup and use. The app can be used to turn the HERO13 on and off and to control all features of the HERO13, to preview the image on the sensor, to live-stream audio and video, and to upload images to the GoPro cloud (subscription required). The app also has access to all images and photos on your smartphone, your local network, and cellular data. I am not entirely comfortable with default settings. On my iPhone, I was able to restrict access to images, local network, and cellular data. Because the connection between the app and the camera is via WiFi, the contents of the SD card cannot be viewed unless local network access is enabled. Most of the app is designed around managing and editing videos and images using features that are only available with a subscription to the GoPro Premium service.New Features (relative to HERO12):GoPro has developed a new set of HB-Series lenses (all sold separately) that are only compatible with the HERO13. These lenses extend the applications for the HERO13Burst Slo-Mo lets you capture up to 15 seconds at 400 fps (720p) or 360 fps (900p) or 5 seconds at 120 fps (5.3K).WiFi 6 connectivity enables faster more reliable wireless communication with compatible equipment.Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) 5.3 improves wireless connectivity over Bluetooth.GPS receiver captures location, altitude, and speed. [Note: GPS is available in HERO11 but not in HERO12.]Old (Still Great!) Lightroom has a camera profile for HERO13, but no lens profiles yet for the native lens or the new HB-Series lenses. The HERO10 lens profile seemed to work relatively well but under-corrects slightly due to the difference in effective 35mm focal lengths for the two cameras. Lightroom could recognize and process GPS metadata in JPG and GPR (raw) files.Overall:While the base features of the HERO13 remain similar to those of the HERO12, the introduction of the new HB-Series lenses extends the utility of the HERO13 for those who want macro focusing or 21:9 aspect ratio (Anamorphic Lens Mod “coming shortly”). The new battery is a blessing and a curse as it is more capable but only compatible with the HERO13. Compatibility with Media Mod and Volta is a big plus. Less

detailedReviews 12: content: Upgraded from the Hero 8. Friends have the 10 and 11. Noth with different features. Demo on the 12 was pretty cool. Decided to pull the trigger on the 13. Stabilization software is incredible. Tested between the 11 and 13 on several downhill biking trails and am thoroughly impressed by the 13. The 11 does a great job, but the battery life is way shorter than the 13. My friend decided to upgrade after our ride. Now we both have the 13 and enjoy the smooth footage of our rides. Only gripe with the 13 is accessory compatibility. Older mounts tend to not be as compatible and this may be due to the shorter folding legs. Otherwise, best camera I have purchased since Hero 4.

detailedReviews 13: content: I have been using GoPro since Gen 1. Many generations are slight upgrades from the previous but GoPro13 represents a revolution in the GoPro family of cameras. The creator edition takes that leap even further. With several different lens mods including the ultra wide 177 degree FOV and the macro lens for super close shots, theres nothing this thing cannot do. I use these for hiking and paddleboarding, projects at work, and with the creator edition you can even live feed through HDMI with ease into a capture card to stream from multiple cameras simultaneously. Ive barely scratched the surface with the 13, and I have been very impressed. Highly recommended!

detailedReviews 14: content: The GoPro Hero13 really impressed me. The image quality is outstanding, especially in bright conditions, and the dynamic range makes videos look sharp and colorful. Stabilization is still one of its biggest strengths—whether you’re running, biking, or moving a lot, the footage stays super smooth. The battery lasts a bit longer than the older models, though it still drains pretty fast when recording in 4K or 5K. What I like most is how easy it is to use: the interface is quick and the voice control actually works well. Overall, it’s a powerful little camera for anyone who wants to capture adventures or trips with great quality and without much hassle

detailedReviews 42: content: I really like the Hero 13. It’s a great action camera and GoPro has been making great action cams for a long time now. There is a lot new for the Hero 13, but most of it is separate from the camera itself. In the box you’ll get the Hero 13 camera, a single battery, a USB-C charging cable, and a curved adhesive mount. The shape and design of the camera should be familiar to anyone who has used a GoPro in the recent past. You have the shutter button up top, the power/mode button on the side, the battery door on the other side, and the mounting points on the bottom. Up front there is the single lens and front screen and around the back is the 2.27” touch screen. The camera feels very solid and I’ve no doubt it can stand up to harsh conditions. With the Hero 13 they introduced a magnetic mounting system and the battery door can also now be replaced with new one that has a magnetic charging cable so you don’t have to open it to charge. Unfortunately neither of these things are included with the Hero 13, which feels like a bit of a disappointment considering how prominently they’re featured in the advertising and it would have been a great differentiator from the older Hero 12. Also new for the Hero 13 are a set of optional ND filters and lens mods that attach in place of the protective lens cover and I think these could really add something different to the experience. Eventually I do want to at least get the ND filters and another lens.Using the camera is pretty intuitive, especially for such a small a screen. I found the interface to be just a bit sluggish, but overall it’s easy to work with. You get a lot of choices in terms of how you want to record photos and videos in the menus without things getting overly complicated or hard to understand. I was able to get the basics of switching modes and settings down within the first 15-20 minutes of using this and I’ve never owned a GoPro in the past.Videos and photos both look great on the Hero 13. I found myself gravitating towards the ‘Linear’ modes for most of what I recorded to avoid the fisheye effect, but depending on what you’re recording it’s not that bad on wider settings. Photos and videos do get pretty grainy in darker settings though and the noise reduction is a little aggressive. I do wish the image sensor was a little bit larger like some of what the competitive action cams have done, but the reality is I’m probably mostly going to be using this in bright outdoor settings anyway and in general I was happy with what this camera put out and the colors look great. The HDR clips I captured in particular just look so good. The audio quality from the mic is okay but not great - something that can be augmented with yet another accessory or you can also connect a Bluetooth microphone. The battery life is pretty good and where I was generally recording at 4K or 5.3K at higher frame rates I was seeing maybe an hour or so of battery life. The battery for the Hero 13 is also new and a slightly higher capacity. I’ll definitely be purchasing at least an extra 1 or 2 batteries in the future though.Overall I think the Hero 13 is great, but in order to get the full experience you’ll need to be prepared to spend a bit more on all the mounts and accessories you want. Even with the GoPro subscription that discounts the accessories they can get to be very spendy directly from GoPro, but fortunately there’s a whole world of 3rd party accessories out there so you can save on a lot of them. With this wireless connection a lot can be done hands off: you can remotely adjust various settings, activate the shutter, and automatically upload the photos/video to your phone or your computer. This just scratches the surface of the capacities, many of which I have yet to discover in the 10 days I have had the camera. No instruction book was included, perhaps assuming that most owners have prior models, and most of the shooting and adjusting of parameters is similar to previous cameras. Instead there was a small flyer that advised loading the Quik app on your phone, and updating the firmware. To begin basic shooting, however, this left me with a lot of hunting on the web page of GoPro, and the downloaded app Quik. The app has regular updates, and via the Quik app, your camera will receive firmware updates as well. In the week since I first started my exploration and learning about the camera, there was already an update of Quik.Quik can add music to your downloaded video footage, and create montages of your still photos, whether taken from the GoPro, or images on your Photos library from other sources. These can be organized into albums by the app. Editing tools exist in the app to cut footage not wanted, splice the segments, and speed up or slow down segments for slo-mo or rapid pace viewing. Filter effects can be added for post-production highlighting of your video.Trophy single frame images can be extracted from the video footage for a high resolution print.Living up to the action camera capacities, you can control your camera from your phone, so you don’t have to take off your helmet or remove the camera from your snowboard front to start recording, adjust settings, etc.Using the Bluetooth connectivity, you can live stream from the GoPro for sharing the action while it is happening.Reviewing the GoPro web page, the Hero 13 offers new features and options over the GoPro 12 that are compelling. Some of the changes require the model 13, and are incompatible with previous models. Since this is my first GoPro, it affects me not at all. But if you have prior models, some of these will not work with former cameras. One change with the 13, there is a larger capacity battery, and physically larger with different array of electrical contacts in the battery socket as well. So if you have a small arsenal of batteries from older GoPros, for a long day of photo shooting, you cannot utilize those batteries in your new camera. The new battery has about 10% higher mAh rating, increased from a 1720mAh to 1900mAh.Since prior models had the habit of shutting down when the battery heated up too much, and the housing has been redesigned to provide better cooling for the battery, so cool down interruptions are diminished. One relatively new accessory (Hero 10 or later) is essentially a mag-safe like external charging feature. This is not included with the 13, but as an extra purchase. You replace the battery door with one that has charging ports which can be connected to a variety of power sources , such as a power bank, wall plug, perhaps a solar panel (?). via a USB-C plugin. So the camera can remain attached to your helmet, handlebars, hang-glider frame, or whatever, and you have a larger external battery recharging the internal battery as you go.Swappable camera lenses now automatically adjust the camera settings for the new parameters of the alternative lens. Previously when you switched to a macro or wide angle lens, you would have to go into the camera settings and adjust for the change. Now the lens will be sensed by the camera, and the adjustments are automatic.Changing the lenses is conceptually simple. The instructions in the downloadable manual were to push the lens cover in and then give it a twist. However, for me it would not budge. I was tempted to use a pliers or similar to accomplish the removal. But not yet owning an attachment lens to add for macro or other utilization, I controlled that impulse. Further reading online gave the suggestion that initially you need to slightly pull the cover AWAY from the camera body, sort of to break the factory seal. Similar to the first opening of a jar of olives or jelly. With a fingernail I gently pried around the circumference of the lens, and then the twist and turn worked. Reportedly, after a few times, it becomes much easier to swap out your lenses and filters. The camera responds to voice commands, so you can take a photo, switch between photo and video and time lapse mode, without having to let go of the handlebars, etc. This is going to replace my digital mirrorless SLR and probably half of my phone-ography Less

As anticipated, the camera feels really sturdy and is well-built. Without any extra housing, it is waterproof to 33 feet (10 meters), making it ideal for poolside sports like kayaking and light snorkeling. This is a great feature for anyone using it in colder or more humid climates because the buttons are simple to press even when wearing gloves.Although I had to squint to see what was on the display in really harsh lighting, the touch screen is brilliant and responsive. Similar to earlier iterations, the front-facing display is ideal for vlogging and for ensuring that you are in the frame when taking solo or selfie photos. It still fits most GoPro accessories because the general size and form factor haven't changed all that much, which is fantastic news. The HERO13 really shines in this situation. The video quality is quite good. It records 5.7K, highly detailed, and sharp video at 60 frames per second. In comparison to earlier models, the dynamic range appears to have improved and the colors are vivid. Though not flawless, the film is remarkably decent even in low light conditions. You’ll still see some noise in really dark scenes, but for an action camera, it handles low light better than I expected.I really like the new HyperSmooth 6.0 stabilizing feature. It's very astounding. The video I recorded with it while mountain riding over some rather rugged terrain was smooth as butter. It's similar to having a gimbal minus the additional equipment. Whether you're riding, skiing, or running, the stabilization does a great job of maintaining a professional-looking video. Another excellent feature is the TimeWarp mode, which enables you to make fluid time lapses while on the go. The feature that lets you adjust the video's pace in real-time is entertaining and operates perfectly, giving you creative freedom when making videos. The HERO13 does fairly well in still photography, but it's obvious that this camera is intended mainly for video. Photos captured with the 27-megapixel sensor are clear and accurately reproduce color. A good selection of shooting options is available, including SuperPhoto, which automatically applies HDR, burst mode, and night mode. This is more than sufficient for the casual photographer, but if you're serious about photography, you may discover that it doesn't provide you the same level of control as a DSLR or even some smartphones. The battery life is respectable but not exceptional. I used it moderately, getting between 1.5 and 2 hours of use out of a single charge (some video, some photographs). If you're utilizing the stabilization tools or shooting at higher resolutions, like as 5.7K the battery does drain faster. I recommend carrying an extra battery if you plan on using it for longer periods. Charging is quick though, so you won’t be waiting around too longOperating on GoPro's most recent firmware, the HERO13 is generally fluid and simple to use. I like how they've kept things basic, and the touch interface is easy to use. When you're engaged in an activity and can't be fiddling with buttons, the voice commands are a great option for hands-free operation. I did see that the camera can still become a little warm when it is recorded for extended periods of time at higher resolutions. Although it shouldn't be a deal breaker, you should be mindful of it, particularly if you intend to record lengthy sessions. With the HERO13, GoPro has enhanced the connectivity features. Transferring files to your computer or phone is quite easy thanks to the integrated Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, especially when using the GoPro Quik app. The software makes short adjustments and sharing simple, but you'll probably still need to transfer footage to a computer if you want to perform more involved editing. Additionally, there is the **GoPro subscription**, which provides certain accessory savings in addition to cloud storage for all of your film. Though not necessary unless you're a major fan of GoPro's ecosystem, it's nice to have. The voice-activated "Highlight Tagging" tool is another great innovation. Saying "GoPro, highlight" while filming allows you to quickly identify important scenes, which makes editing much simpler afterwards.I'm quite satisfied with the GoPro HERO13 overall. It's a great improvement over earlier models, with amazing stability, robust, adventure-ready build, and amazing video quality. This is unquestionably a fantastic option if you enjoy taking pictures of extreme sports, outdoor activities, or just need a trustworthy camera for travel. It still needs to be improved in a few areas, such as battery life and heat management during lengthy 5.7K recordings, but overall those are quite little problems. If you're searching for a high-end action camera, I believe the HERO13 is well worth the money for everything it has to offer in terms of capabilities, quality, and versatility. Less

The camera does tend to blow out bright colors a bit, but I think that makes the videos more eye catching right away. The number of mounts and grips and clamps and hooks (oh my!) you can use to attach this to yourself or your stuff is nearly unlimited. You can go for some super cheap no-name stuff from Amazon to experiment with so you can figure out which accessories you really want, then get the better/more durable mounts or clamps or whatever you need. If you’re not worried about looking odd, some of the coolest footage I was able to capture is definitely POV from eye-height.There are so many uses for this GoPro; I keep thinking of new ways to use it and it just goes to work. You can stick it on a selfie stick and put it in a pond and make a fish movie (pretty cool) or take it to the beach and not have to worry so much about it getting ruined from the salt and sand (SLR?). A few of the surfers we were watching had mounted them on the front of their surfboards for some cool shots. Seeing the cats smacking each other from their vantage point is also hilarious. I was able to use it as a makeshift inspection camera to check the roof of the camper without climbing up there. The voice commands work great, and it was even somehow able to respond to my voice while at the airshow with all the noise that entails, I thought that was impressive. Once I set it up, I didn’t have to do much else beyond pressing the record button. I have found myself recording mundane things in slow motion and it’s still fun to watch. The camera responds fairly quickly to rapid changes in available light, like going indoors from a sunny exterior. It appears to prefer to set exposure to favor the most brightly lit area in the FOV, which makes sense for an action focused camera, but with a small LED light attached, I was able to check the underside of the camper. I wouldn’t rely on this as an inspection camera, but it works in a pinch. The fisheye effect that it shoots with by default is rather pronounced, but there is a “Linear” mode that seems to do real time lens correction very well. Of course, since the video it is shooting is at such high resolution, you have a lot of options to modify or correct your footage and still have great results. I haven’t tried any of the lenses yet, but I think I’ll be getting at least the anamorphic mod. The lenses are not cheap, but neither is the camera, and making even a little lens that can stand up to the kind of punishment I imagine these cameras take is going to take some high-end materials and engineering, so I can’t complain about lens prices. The GoPro site stated the Hero 13 can record up to 2.5 hours with the new battery (the 13 is not compatible with batteries from previous models), and I got about 2 hours, but I was messing with it all the time, so the screen(s) were taking their share of juice. The batteries are very affordable on the GoPro site, so getting a couple of extras for a trip or adventure isn’t going to break the bank. There is also a magnetic quick connect charging cable you can add (it replaces the battery door), effectively making storage the only limiting factor for your recordings.During my day at the airshow, the camera got warm while recording, nothing like what I would call hot, but it was cloudy out. I imagine this little guy will get quite toasty out in the sun, but I’ll have to find out later. The Quik app is effortless; after using the camera’s very fast built-in 5GHz Wi-Fi to connect to my iPhone it was able to put together an amusing reel from a mountain of junk footage I shot at the airshow. I haven’t been able to see the automatic uploading during charging since we don’t have much connectivity out here. The interface on the touch screen is tiny buy sharp enough that it’s not hard to read, and it’s simple enough to learn your way around the interface without much trouble. The subscription is reasonably priced for unlimited footage from the camera and a little insurance policy if you manage to break it. If you’re planning on buying any accessories, you get discounts on the GoPro site as well. It seems like a pretty good deal to me, I went for it.The hardware and software build quality is excellent. The operation is simple. I have experienced no crashes or unexpected operations or random errors. There is a distinct lack of fussiness about using this camera that makes it appealing to use. Everything feels sorted and built to work in the simplest way possible which is a hallmark of durability. This camera feels like it’s going to last a while. It just works.I would recommend this camera without reservation. Less

Swipe left and right to select the recording mode, swipe down for settings, and swipe up for the library. For most of the camera settings, there is a small description so that you do not have to remember all the different icons. However if you find the camera controls lacking, you will want to switch to Pro Mode instead of Easy Mode. This allows you to have full control to set everything and even save presets for different shoots. Also keep in mind if you find the GoPro hard to configure because of the tiny screen and such, the mobile app is an excellent substitute. A major benefit of the app is that you can turn on the GoPro from it, and see what is being recorded. Basically through the app, you can control your GoPro remotely and this is extremely useful if you have the camera in a hard to reach spot.As for the media that this is able to capture, it is quite stunning what it is able to do with such a small form. Video stabilization is incredible and there is stunning detail from the 5k videos captured. Low light performance is not the greatest, but in well light conditions which is most of outdoors, it has no trouble capturing all the details. It is, unfortunately, only about 2 hours of battery life so you do have to plan your usage accordingly. For those deciding to upgrade from the previous model, there are a few changes that will be worth it. A slightly larger battery and additional slow motion frame captures and well is more HDR shooting modes can be beneficial in the field. Unfortunately the camera is basically still the same hardware so it does make it harder to recommend an upgrade.Overall, the newest version of the GoPro Hero improves slightly over the previous design. If you are coming from a Hero12, know that you will have to invest in new batteries, but your other accessories should still work. However if this is your first GoPro, then it is worth considering as it does have some newer technology to future proof you a little. Less

I did try the Star Trails option. I left it on a tripod, looking straight up for almost an hour to record about three seconds of video. Need a battery bank to let it run for four or five hours to get the full effect but it gave me a still photo of the effect as well as the video. I’ll attach the photo to the review. Definitely something I’ll be trying when we’re camping at a dark sky site next time!I’m looking forward to using this for content creation going forward, with multiple mounting options and all the accessories that are available this camera can go just about anywhere. Waterproof to 10 meters so I’ll be taking it snorkeling next time we’re in the Caribbean. This being my first GoPro, this is also my first time seeing GoPro’s Quik app. Just using it for a few days it appears to be a very powerful video editing tool for a mobile device! You can do nearly everything to prepare video for posting! I tried adding Stickers to show the data the GPS collected: altitude, speed, location, gforce, etc. Edit videos for length, add music and effects, adjust for camera tilt, etc. It also allows you to control the camera directly from the app, I used it to start and stop the exposure for the time lapse video I took. It’s really cool! Less

When mounted correctly the rig feels sturdy and balanced, and the footage looks sharp for travel, family clips, and faster scenes.Outside of that mounting quirk the camera itself is easy to run, with responsive controls and reliable stabilization that handles walking and quick pans. Battery life is fine for short sessions and the case layout keeps the setup compact in a bag. For casual everyday recording the price feels high and I would not choose it just for basic clips on a desk or around the house. For action sports or regular outdoor filming it makes a lot more sense because the build and image quality shine once you put it on a mount and keep moving. If that is how you plan to use it, the price for the quality is good. Less

As for cooling, respect the SD card requirements, use only official batteries and disable unnecessary features (GPS, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi..).The only major downside is the awful companion software... Official PC app is abandoned and the mobile app is almost forcing you to subscribe a cloud storage....Disable all that and stick to the SD card if you value privacy and battery life. Less

I would have preferred a flat surface mount. I guess I will have to buy one now.I think it’s interesting that camera manufacturers (including companies manufacturing cell phones) push ultra high resolution, when oftentimes, people are mostly shooting blurry snapshots. The maximum photo resolution of the Hero 13 is insane. It captures 27 megapixels. For comparison, a 24 megapixel image yields a 6000x4000 pixel image. Again, insane, in a really good way.Note that the 2x zoom is a digital zoom. This means that it does not add any resolution, and no interpolation is performed; the resulting image is merely displayed larger. You’re better off not using the zoom and just cropping the resulting image. It really is the same thing. The maximum video resolution is 5.3k, which is incredible. I have a 75" 4k UHD TV, and displaying a 4k image is already amazing to see. That kind of detail from such a tiny device is truly impressive. If you don’t need that level of detail (and in my experience, most people do not), you can select lower resolution levels. That will save you a lot of memory as well. Note that video is captured at 60 fps (frames per second), so it is also super smooth. The on-screen icons can be swapped for a variety of other actions, so the functions you want to have available quickly are right there. It has everything that most shooters will need to access on the go. I appreciate that as the previous menu system I felt could be over whelming to some users. The pictures this camera can shoot are decent. I could see using this when your on vacation instead of pulling out your phone. When reviewing the file size it said it was a 27MP image. Now don’t get your hopes up while the image is clear and has good colors if you zoom in you will still see the image fall apart. But for most people who are looking to capture those special moments on the fly this will work great, especially if sharing on social media. In video mode you have the option to change the aspect ratio. You have 16:9, 9:16, 4:3, and 8:7. In photo mode it appears you are stuck with a 4:3 aspect. I suppose you could crop a 9:16 for social media in post-production, but it would have been nice to have the option to take a 9:16 natively on the camera. The camera comes with two modes for stabilization. HYPERSMOOTH and HYPERSMOOTH AutoBoost. Testing out I couldn’t really tell a difference. They both seemed to work amazingly well. There seemed to be a slight crop in the HYPERSMOOTH AutoBoost Mode. Shaking the camera vigorously the image in the video remains steady and smooth. GoPro has always had the best image stabilization in the industry and this camera lives up to their reputation. One thing that really impressed me was the horizon lock mode. When this is active you can literally turn the camera upside down and the image will remain in the same position. I truly have no idea how they are able to do this. The battery life on the GoPro Hero 13 Black seemed decent, maybe even better than the 12. I used the camera in 4K60 and recorded a 30-minute clip and lost about 40-45%. This is pretty good. The reason I recorded a 30-minute clip was I wanted to see how the camera performed in regard to heat dissipation (overheating.) In the clip I shot in 4K60 for 30 minutes the camera never shut down, but it did get very hot. So hot I couldn’t hold in in my hands for more than a few seconds. Interesting enough the heat sync on the front of the camera was just warm while the body of the camera was almost scolding. I’m not sure it the heat sync does much, but I guess having it can’t hurt. I would never shoot a 4k60 video more than 30 minutes, so the camera passes in my use case.Without making this review to long, I will just say that if you have a version 12 of this camera you might want to wait to upgrade your current camera. I just don’t see much that has changed. There is the new mounting system which was not provided to me so I cannot comment on how that works. If your looking to add a camera to your arsenal, then I say this camera seems solid and I would highly recommend it. The small size and portability and sheer versatility of the GoPro makes it my preferred camera when I want to take action videos of whatever I’m doing. I have a hot air balloon experience scheduled for my anniversary next weekend and I’m 100% bringing this along for that!I went on a bike ride with a couple buddies of mine to test this out and the footage was absolutely amazing. Both my friends loved the video so much they plan on getting one as well. And this was the unedited version they saw. With a little bit of time in an editor, it would have blown them away even more! Basically they weren’t convinced it was any better than a cellphone camera, until they saw it in action. I also took it on a ride around the neighborhood and it’s fantastic. One of my favorite things to do now is to strap it on my daughters and watch them play on the playground. They also love this and think it’s so fun to watch themselves play. We took it on a really big slide in the neighborhood by an outlet mall by us and the slide is a great time. The video it captured while my kiddo went down was basically epic. I plan on making a family video for the family and calling it “through the eyes of my kids” or something like that! My parents and grandparents (their grandparents, and great grandparents) will love it!I also wanted to just do random things with this, so I threw it on a tripod and did some lawn work! Threw it on my lawn mower's handlebars, the end of the string trimmer, and stuck it to the top of the lawn mower. With some editing and cutting out clips of my lawn work, I swear with some proper music, this could end up a commercial of something haha. But that is where I learned of my first problem with the GoPro, the OVERHEATING :(It was on a tripod, just sitting in the sun while I was recording myself mowing part of my lawn (like a weirdo) and it overheated! It was unexpected. Luckily I got enough of what I wanted anyway, but I found it odd that it did. I didn’t notice any overheating during my bike ride for over an hour the previous day and it was hotter then than it was during my mow. It didn’t overheat while on my lawnmower though so perhaps a fluke? The other downside is the battery life! I noticed it nearly take out the battery during my bike ride. 90 minute bike ride and it was essentially wiped. I’m guessing it’ll be dead in 2 hoursOverall though, hardly a deal breaker for me. The cameras pros outweigh the cons for sure! I love it and will continue to use it along side my camera. The memories, are fantastic and I can totally see a YouTuber using this for content creation on YouTube! I do watch the walks through various countries across the world. Perhaps they’re using GoPros. Huh, who would have thought! Less

Excellent microphone, and an extremely simple interface for top quality videos and pictures. The voice activated feature is a game changer and the ability to edit on the app has left editing so much less time consuming. The magnetic feature is welcome, but I have yet to test it to its full ability as I’m afraid it may fall off when at speed on a car or bike, but I’m sure GoPro already have. Can also control it via voice commands, which is fun.Bad:Mods are a bit expensive (i.e. lenses) and I'm not sure I will use the video above 4k as my phone wont handle it and I'm not sure if my TV can either. The handle in the underwater accessories is useful, and I was surprised that it floats, but would have been better if they sent the one that doubles as a tripod (it exists), as I has to buy my own tripod. detailedReviews 62: content: This little device offers soo much that the eye can see!! First off, I love how lightweight it is and easy to carry when on the go! Quality in and out of water is amazing! Battery does die a bit quick depending on how much you use it! I use it for trips and love to capture all the great moments! This is by far my favorite camera/video camera to have during all my trips! I was able to purchase the extra gadgets to make taking pictures and videos much easier and flexible!! Can’t capture something in front due to tall people in the way? BAM! Use the go pro stick to capture more! All in all, this little guy is my right hand man for capturing valuable and unforgettable moments and shots!! Thanks Go pro!! Definitely recommend!

detailedReviews 63: content: After updating and charging, the go pro was ready for action, after ziptieing it to a rc car, i chased my brother with it. The next day we shot some tanerite and got it on camera. Soon itll be in gatlinburg getting some first person shots of me go carting. Not only is this thing a tough camera, its very versitaile. I bought it with my bussiness in mind. Soon i will film content for my bussiness and it will pay its self off! Ivr had no issues yet. The quik app is also really cool, not only can i edit my go pro footage, i can edit my personal footage thats not captured through the go pro. I love my GoPro 13 black, with my 4 year warranty from BestBuy, i feel confident to get any cool shots worry free.

detailedReviews 64: content: Best action camera on the market. I love the ease of use and the amount of accessories available for this camera. The voice commands and changeable lenses make it easy to capture any activity with perfect clarity and sound. The Gopro quik app makes downloading footage and editing a breeze, while also giving you quick edits so you don't even have to do you own editing, just plug the camera in and let the ai software do the editing for you. Battery life is great and the ability to upload everything to the cloud makes storage so simple. There so much that you can do with this camera, not to mention just capturing 27mp photos right from a screen grab ensures that you never miss a moment can get just the right pic from any occasion.

detailedReviews 65: content: I bought this camera for my husband to have with him on his fishing adventure to Alaska. He loves to take pictures of his adventures (actually of anything he does) and he is never too shy to ask a stranger to take a picture of him. So you can image his excitment when he opened his gift to find the camcorder for his trip to Alaska. He not super techy. I gave it to him early so he could learn how to set it up and and use it. He watched a lot of YouTube videos (he this not a negative towards the product. This just what my husband does with anything he works on). He said it was easy . Yes, he has already tried it out and loves it. He even recorded himself cleaning the fence and fixing the riding mower - everything gets recorded.

You can change the resolution, frame rate, etc.The image quality is amazing for such a small form factor. It's perfect for the outdoor enthusiast. The microphone sound was also acceptable. This camera is capable of so much. Image quality outdoors should not be a problem. As long as you are not in low light. It has great video stabilization. It also has a feature for audio tuning. It comes with an app. The GoPro Quik App. It allows for more capability. You can do things on the go. You can control the Hero 13 through the app on your phone. There is even the capability for voice command! Now, the battery is one of the downsides. With this camera spitting out high resolutions. I didn't expect the battery to be that great. It's decent but it's not anything amazing. Also, the door to enclose the battery and micro SD card is a tight fit. I struggle to get it open. Yet, I'd rather it be tight than loose. Outside of those small issues, I'm still learning more about the GoPro Hero13! I'm still amazed you get so much performance in such a small package! Less

detailedReviews 67: content: Camera worked fine except it did not work using an auxiliary external battery like it claimed in the instruction manual. I have to use the battery because my videos are more than a hour. It said in the error on the screen that it needed a 2 amp supply but I was already using a larger supply. The tech from GoPro tried to help but with no success and offered to send a new camera as a replacement. Before I was to return the camera, i checked online and found out that all the cameras did this and GoPro though their "Lab" part of their website offered a software fix. I did that and it worked. I have since for the past few weeks been filming with no problems. I wish the GoPro tech had suggested that.

detailedReviews 68: content: This is an amazing camera and a great buy. However, my only concerns are that it doesn't have much of a "telephoto" option and has major distortion around the edges. Additionally, it doesn't show where it is focusing, causing some missed focus on a few of the shots. Other than those 3 concerns, I have to honestly say it is a great action camera for both photography and videography, with absolutely amazing stabilisation. Even though I have only had it for a few weeks, I am already extremely happy with my shots, and believe it is compact enough to pack for any vacations, hiking, or dive trips. Please keep in mind the shots have been edited in Adobe Photoshop Lightroom, by adjusting colours and exposure, etc.

detailedReviews 69: content: I’ve never used a GoPro before but the Hero 13 made it super easy to get started. Right out of the box it is intuitive even for someone who's not tech-savvy. Setting it up was easy and the touch screen is easy to navigate. Uploading videos was a lot easier than I expected. I just connected it to my phone using the GoPro Quik app and the videos transferred quickly. The app fantastic with a simple layout and helpful prompts. It didn’t take long to figure out how to trim clips, add music and create a video. The Quik app makes it a lot of fun. You can let it auto edit or customize things yourself.

It’s my first one that I’ve ever owned personally and I’ve been around them ever since they first came out and I’ve always wanted one and I could never afford it. Extremely happy with the quality of it and being able to switch out the lenses Seems built pretty rugged. I wish I had a loop so you could put it on like a keychain, but can always get what you want.
