My update after 3 weeks of almost daily use...
First of all, this is a speaker that takes time to break in. It takes time to open up and perform to its full potential. Out of the box, I wasn't all that impressed with it, but after about 3 days of use I began to notice the sound literally changing, as if "waking up". Then it just got better and better from there. At almost 3 weeks, I can say that it still keeps on getting better and better. Trust me, this isn't just placebo. There are songs/ frequencies where it used to struggle but now handles perfectly! To anyone out there who wants to try this speaker, don't judge the way it sounds right off the box. Give it time to properly break in. 3 weeks to 1 month is my estimate (or an equivalent of 50 hrs of use)
Now, about the sound quality. The sound signature of this speaker can be described as creamy, luxurious, rich, smooth, warm-ish and non-fatuguing. It's a very well-balanced sound that is very versatile and can handle all kinds of music genres from hard and heavy rock to acoustic/ lighter forms of music. It's a very pleasing, well- rounded sound and so tastefully engineered. Props to Bose! Suffice to say that it sounds as good as it looks! Just look at how beautifully designed this product is in terms of aesthetics and acoustics! You can sort of tell that it's gonna produce quality sound just by looking at it and holding it and touching it. By the way, this thing is a little heavy and compact-feeling. It's got some nice weight to it, which sort of enhances the sense of a premium and well-built product made with quality materials.
This is highly recommended and I look forward to purchasing another one to stereo pair it with. Which could bring the experience to a whole new level. What is already amazing could be taken even further...
Pros: -Sound Quality is topnotch
-Beautiful aesthetic/ design philosophy
-Great battery life (I only have to charge it once a week)
-Premium build, very durable feeling
-Great portability
Cons: -Expensive
-Silicone body attracts dust & hair
-Battery drains slightly when not in use
-Slight clipping on some songs at max volume

items 4: content: I'm old enough to remember when Bose was new to the mainstream commercial market and a home that had their Wave system was 'high-falutin'. I cut my teeth on Bose products when I finally had money of my own and was stepping into the audiophile world. I quickly moved past Bose into the ethereal realms of speakers and headphones, but always had a soft spot for Bose, even though it seemed like they were consistently getting beat at their own game. Well, I was pleasantly surprised to see and hear Bose come out swinging with the SoundLink Max.
TL:DR - It deserves to be on the shortlist for anyone looking for an outstanding portable bluetooth speaker. It's the first portable BT speaker to even come close to acing my audiophile test playlist.
Here is what I like about the SoundLink Max:
Sound Quality: I kinda feel like this has taken a back seat for a lot of portable BT speakers as of late. Many people prioritize the portability or battery life of a system over pure sound quality. Understandable since if you can't take it with you, or if it doesn't play long enough, the quality really doesn't matter. You don't have to compromise on sound with the SoundLink Max. Even though I stopped chasing the holy grail of audiophile sound (it got WAY too expensive), I do still utilize my test playlist with all my new sound gear, and the Max is the first portable bluetooth speaker I've owned that could even come close to nailing each test. Everything from depth, impact, focus, transients, and resonance were spectacular. Of course it can't get proper separation due to the closeness of the speakers (but a paired set might just do it), but no single point system can do that.
The only test that it even tripped over was part of the bass response, and I'm having trouble isolating whether that is an actual issue with the speaker or if it is something else. On some dance/R&B tracks with certain bass segments, there is a 'stutter' in one frequency set. It's weird, and it only pops up in certain songs. It could very well be an artifact from processing or the original production. Other than that, the SoundLink Max has an impressively controlled bass response which has usually been a weak point for BT speakers and Bose in particular.
Looks: My wife loves the Blue Dusk color and the SoundLink Max design itself is simple and clean. I don't need disco lights nor do I need it to look like some alien spaceship. I also dig the rope handle, which I guess can be swapped out for a longer shoulder rope strap but that's not for me.
Battery Life: Bose says you get 20 hours at moderate volume, but I spent six hours with the audiophile test and just regular music yesterday and a good three hours so far this morning just working in my office and the speaker is still reporting 100%! Now I hope that's not an error with the software but the weight of this speaker makes me think that it has some solid battery capacity built into it.
Charge Capability: Unlike a few portable speakers I've utilized lately, the SoundLink Max will charge your phone if you plug it into the USB-C port. Always a nice feature.
Durability/IP Rating: The Bose SoundLink Max feels solid and sturdy, plus the rubberized coating all lead you to feel that it can take some abuse and still keep rocking. That, and the fact that you can replace the handle if needed, all give me a good feeling that I'll be using this speaker for years to come. The solid IP67 (and weirdly secondary IP64) rating also mean that this is a great speaker to take out and about, whether it is to the pool, beach, desert, or wherever you may roam.
Phone App: Simple and clean. Always appreciate that.
What I don't like as much (but none are very big issues):
Weight: Despite being a relatively compact speaker, you could probably do some serious damage to someone if you were to swing this at them. Perhaps Bose should consider marketing it as a self-defense item or perhaps a stylish exercise weight. It's nothing egregious, but it has some heft to it.
Equalizer: While I appreciate that the app is clean and simple, and that the equalizer is easy to adjust, I would appreciate some better presets, or better yet, the ability to save my own. Hopefully this will come out in a future app update.
I am VERY happy with the Soundlink Max and I look forward to years of great sounding music no matter where I may be.

items 5: content: I recently got my hands on the Bose SoundLink Max, as a loyal bose headphone user who went through three bose headphones, I have to say, bose does not disappoint. This speaker looks amazing right out of the box. It has a sleek, modern design that fits well in any room and the handle feature makes it extremley easy to carry around and also suitable for hanging out with friends in a park. The dustproof and waterproof feature also make it perfect for at beach or by the pool but I haven't had chance to test it out.
The sound quality is super good. Bass is deep and punchy but mids and highs stay clear and crisp. I can also adjust the setting on my phone and everything sounds great whether I'm listening to rock, pop or classical music.
When it comes to battery life, I am amazed on how long it can last. I link it to my laptop when I am watching shows or youtubes at night and I rarely need to charge it, probably once per week. It also comes with the feature to charge phones, which means I can take it out for a whole day withouth worrying about it or my phone dying on me, it's literally a power bank. It's a bit of on the heavy side but who cares when you have this impressive battery life.
Pairing it with my devices was super easy and you can connect to multiple devices seamlessly! One press on the button and you are ready to go. The connection is stable and I can wander pretty far from the speaker without losing the signal. This works like a dream compare with my old bluetooth speaker.
Overall, i am really happy with the Bose SoundLind Max. Solid battery life, great sound, cool design that is both stylish and durable and packed with features that make it easy to use. If you are looking for a portable bluetooth speaker that sounds amazing and can keep up with your on-th-go lifestyle, this is definitely worth checking out.

items 6: content: I have always considered Bose speakers to be deceptively good. They aren't the most configurable so I've read past reviews from audiophiles being somewhat critical that they couldn't make the speakers meet their subjective tastes. I appreciate good sound but am not that user. Bose is designed for easy use and solid sound. This Soundlink Max speaker is really a treat. It's styled after a small boom box. It's only a speaker, via Bluetooth or aux port, but sits like a fun stereo. The grills for the drivers are all hard so no worry of tearing. The edge of the box is rubberized which is fine, but I could see it potentially being sticky as it ages, but I could be mistaken. The handle is comfortable and soft and is connected with braided nylon like rope which is a fun touch. The companion app is free and the Google play store and Apple app store both have it. It was easy and smooth to connect the speaker to both an android phone and an iPhone. The Bose app allows for a multi connection setup so transfer of music was seamless between the devices. There is a three band equalizer in the app too and my tweaking of it did produce detectable changes to the sound but it was not extremely customizable. This would be where someone might ding it, but I was able to tweak it to my liking. Overall the sound is true to Bose' reputation, full, bass rich, the lows, mids and highs all feel substantial, and the sound is not sacrificing tone for power. Considering the size of this device, I'm really surprised by the volume. It totally punches above its size and while it's not the cheapest Bluetooth speaker, it is clearly a high end speaker. I would say there is a place for cheaper options, but if you want a weather resistant, high end sound, this Soundlink Max by Bose is worth the price.

title: Full, bass-rich sound, surprising volume for size
type: REVIEWS
items 7: content: I can’t deny I was expecting a regular speaker.. you know the usual - connect it to your phone, press play, adjust volume, & boom, there yah go. However, the Bose SoundLink Max is NOT quite your regular speaker. Think of a regular speaker that got exposed to gamma rays (like the Hulk), THAT is the Bose SoundLink Max.
My pros for the Bose SoundLink Max are:
1. Bass & overall sound quality
2. Sound Waveform & Range
3. Adjustable sound settings (EQ)
4. Portability
5. Output charger functioning
6. Dual input (USB-C & Aux)
7. Ease of connection & compatibility
8. Soft-touch feel and Overall Appearance
1. First of all it has some of the best bass I have ever heard in a portable speaker (& looks like a mini boombox, which totally adds to the vibes). The speakers are located on the front and both sides so you get a full 360 sound experience. Which allows for the deep notes of the bass to come through so crisp and clear that when adjusted to do so, you can feel the beats. That’s when the EQ is set to be in what I’ve deemed as “party mode” & for a bass head that is a total pro! I can’t get enough.
2. I had to google the word for it but Sound Waveform is the word used to describe the shape of the sound emitted from speakers; and the waveform on the SoundLink Max is INSANE! It emits in such a way that when you are behind the speaker you wouldn’t be disturbed by its boisterousness. I am seriously amazed.
3. Alongside the waveform, this speaker has adjustable EQ settings which allow for it to be compatible with not only party atmospheres but also more chill and quiet environments. With the SoundLink Max you’re able to adjust the Bass, Mid and Treble and that means you can basically make this speaker a literal portable stereo system that will provide all the beats needed to get a party going. Also for myself, in the mornings my family sleeps later than I do and I love to play my speaker early. Since I cant throw morning parties, Ive found that when I adjust the settings just right I am able to play my music at a good volume for the room while also not disturbing those upstairs still catching z’s. (This is my personal favorite feature, too)
4. The portability is another part of this speaker I can get behind. While it isn’t as light as a feather, it’s not gonna hurt your hand to carry it through the party or out on a walk. (Tho Bose has a longer carrying strap that I plan to purchase ASAP) It is really easy to grab and go which makes it the perfect going out buddy.
5. The output charging function is very handy for the days when you want to carry the speaker out but dont want to bring too much. Ditch the charger box and just use this guy. It will drain the battery a bit if you utilize this function but with how long the battery life is, I dont think that dying batteries will be what ends the party. Hahaha
6. The fact that there is not only a USB-C connector but also an “old school” aux port makes my millennial soul happy. Definitely a plus for being able to connect just about any device you want.
7. The SoundLink Max will connect to your devices through the Bose app, of course, but it also connects with regular Bluetooth connection (sans app) as well as with the aux port. So getting whatever sound it is that you want playing is pretty simple to do and you’ll be up and dancing asap. *Also to add, when multiple devices are connected it is very easy to cycle through them with the Bluetooth button so that whoever’s turn it is to DJ will be able to start their set quickly and with ease.*
8. Now that I’ve spoken on the functionality, let’s hit onto the aesthetics of the speaker.. and let’s be honest it’s not only pretty sleek, it’s so cute! The two colors available are Black and Blue Dust, with mine being the latter which I LOVE! It has a nice soft-touch coating to the body with a shallow indentation for the buttons so they’re easy to access. Overall, it’s a a smooth design that I appreciate.
Bonus pro: I cant believe I forgot to mention the shortcut button! Tho I do wish it could switch between more options, it is very helpful when you want to switch between Bluetooth and the aux port. Same for those who love Spotify, you can also set it to go straight into your last played Spotify playlist and start right back up where you last were. All with the click of one button on the top of the speaker.
Overall, my opinion on the SoundLink Max is that it is 10/10, 5 stars, 100%. I have thoroughly enjoyed every minute of my listening experience with it so far & im willing to bet you will too.

items 8: content: This speaker is called the SoundLink "Max" for a reason. Listening to this speaker for the first time blew my mind. The sound quality is exceptional. I never imagined a speaker of this size could produce such punchy bass without overpowering the mids and highs, creating room-filling sound with depth and detail.
I love this speaker so much that I take it along with me everywhere I go; be it a different room in the house or outside, and yet the sound quality remains top-notch. The strap makes it easy to carry around. Initially, holding it felt a bit heavy, but the handle is really comfortable to hold, to a point where you will forget its weight and take it along with you wherever you go.
The battery life of this speaker is impressive and exceeded my expectations, considering its maximum volume and sound quality. Additionally, the fact that this speaker can charge my phone is really useful when going outdoors.
The only downsides of this product are that the USB and Aux ports are exposed, but this can be easily fixed; and the silicone material can gather dust, but it doesn't take long to clean it off.
Overall, I think Bose has made an outstanding speaker that is stylish, unique, and, most importantly, delivers impressive stereo sound. I'm no longer limited to listening to quality music in one room, and this speaker provides me the freedom to enjoy and listen to music wherever I want.

items 9: content: ound for my ear. Volume levels are fantastic! I’ve never needed to maintain volume above 70%. I’ve used my SoundLink Max for indoor/outdoor work around the house, casual listening to music/podcasts and for all of my garage gym workouts! Refreshing is the word I would use to describe the battery life. I simply don’t have to worry about it running out of battery like I do with other devices. Having the option to utilize the speaker to charge other devices also provides some peace of mind if you get in a pinch without an outlet nearby. Bluetooth pairing is quick and simple but one of my favorite features so far has to be the ability to easily swap between connected devices when listening with others. The speaker and carry handle feel durable and the materials equally premium. I would love to see some additional handle length options down the road and potentially another color or limited editions offered for the speaker in the future. My only critique is the volume of the prompts when powering on the device. Personally, I would like it to be a little quieter or be given the option to adjust it. Myself, my wife and young daughter couldn’t be happier with the SoundLink Max and I’m excited to use it for a very long time! If you’re in the market for a high quality portable bluetooth speaker for yourself or a loved one, you will not be disappointed with the SoundLink Max.

items 10: content: What is not to love about the new Bose Soundlink Max Portable Speaker. I have been using it for about a month now and it has exceeded my expectations. As a long time Bose user, the soundlink max portable speaker has the best sound for a product of its size. The sound is very balanced with an absolutely incredible bass. I love the way you can also customize the sound using the app. I have used the speaker outdoors and indoors and no matter where you are it sounds amazing. I appreciate the portable design and the attached handle. It has a bit of weight to it but not too heavy to travel around with you. It was a big hit at a Memorial Day party with anyone being about to connect and play the music that they would like. The battery life for the speaker is very long. I barely have to charge it with the battery probably lasting over 20 hours each time it is fully charged. My favorite feature is that you can use a USB-C to charge your phone! I am sometimes guilty of forgetting to charge my phone 100% and I have found this feature so handy when playing music. Bose never disappoints with the quality and reliability of the products they offer as well as the customer service that is always provided. 10/10 would recommend to anyone to buy. It is worth every penny and I know it will last for years to come!

items 11: content: I bought this to replace my Bose Mini SoundLink 1. That speaker served me for 11 years! College parties, beach trips, kayaking, camping, work, grilling, sad boy hours. You name it, that speaker played its little heart out. It became an icon in the friend group. While many have had 4-6 speakers over the years, I've had just the one. I unfortunately dunked it in water while on the river. The battery was beginning to fail anyway, but that deemed to be too much for my Mini. It still played for a few hours after that, but its final song was Great Expectations by Day Wave on 07/04/2024. It played all the way through and turned off for its last time. I put that speaker though things it was never built to do, and it just kept going. I bought the Max because it IS built to withstand my lifestyle, and Bose as a portable speaker has won me over. I will forever buy Bose, and this speaker.. I mean wow! What a sound! The battery life is incredible, the tone and bass is amazing! truly one of the best sounding Bluetooth speakers I've heard for its size. To be fair it's a little too soon to tell, but if this is anything like my Mini SoundLink 1, (and this can withstand the river) I will be playing music out of it for many years to come, and I believe this too will become the next icon amongst friends and family. I have already enjoyed many hours from the new Bose Max.

items 12: content: Bose never ceases to amaze me with their products. I hate to sound like a “fan boy” but man…quality and performance is what counts and Bose takes it to the max with the Soundlink Max!
I cannot not believe the range, clarity and bass that bursts from the speakers in the Soundlink Max.
I wanted to replace a speaker that I had in my garage for projects due to environmental damage. The previous garage speaker had a critter that stored seeds and made a nest in the subwoofer opening! Ruined! IPX proofing is important on an outdoor speaker! Soundlink Max is IPX6… No critter, no water or dust gonna stop Soundlink from brining the tunes. IPX6 rated protection is extremely waterproof but not submersible. It can take rain, splashes or a spilled beverage! It’s ready for the beach, pool or adventure! NOTE: if you get it wet…let it dry COMPLETELY before trying to charge it usb! No hair dryers either. I don’t like reading manuals…but Bose kept it simple on the app so I would recommend checking it out to maximize your Soundlink Max.
It also is usb C for charging which I really love. You can also charge your phone from it but note that it will decrease the 20 hours or play. Bose also makes a mention that if you are using max sound setting the 20 hours is greatly reduced as one would expect. To help with battery, if you leave it on accidently, after 20 minutes it will auto shut off which is nice.
I also really love the premium material of skin, It feels soft but slip resistant if you have wet hands. The buttons are responsive. You can turn the volume up and down and play and pause on the speaker itself….BUT NO NEXT/BACK SONG BUTTON! That’s definitely a design misstep or bad design choice but totally forgivable. I use my phone most of the time anyway. The speaker sets solid on anything you set it on…beach towel or beach bag. While looking at the manual in the Bose App, I discovered you can change the handle with ease to different color rope design! I like that little touch. I also like the ergonomic handle… feels good and solid in the hand or to use it to tie on the boat somewhere or a canoe on a float trip!
I like the app Bose has. I had the app with my BOSE Headphones and the Soundlink Max synced right up no problem. You can play with the EQ if you want…I found the factory set is the best for me.
Back to the sound…Just world class. I love music and I have too many headphones and speakers to be honest but I like having the right device for the right job….For summer fun or out door adventure…BOSE SOUNDLINK MAX is by far the way to go. It completely fills my back deck, garage or any room in my house up with full rich, clear and crisp sound with bass that seems impossible from such a small device with no visible subwoofer or tweeters!!! So easy to transport anywhere you want to go! Loud for a party or soft for ambience….just amazing. Not to mention the rich warm conversations from podcasts.
I absolutely love the Soundlink Max!

title: World-class sound, rich, clear, crisp, impossible bass
type: REVIEWS
items 13: content: This strikes me as an interesting product. At the end of the day, it's simple - it's a Bluetooth speaker without a ton of frills that jams a huge amount of sound and bass into a relatively small - but a bit hefty - package, in typical Bose fashion. But at the premium price tag, it does feel like it's missing a feature or two.
Pros:
- Incredible sound
- Excellent battery life
- USB-C charging
- Fast-charge your phone from the speaker via the USB-C port
- AUX input
- Basic EQ via the Bose app
- IP67 water resistant
Cons:
- No WiFi (no casting, SpotifyConnect, etc...)
- Fairly large to be "portable"
- Heavy
- No USB-C audio support
- No the white / silver color
This thing is ideal for bringing along to a house or pool party, or jamming out at your own place, but it is fairly large and hefty. I have this listed as a con just because this is very much advertised as "take it with you on-the-go", and I'm not sure I would realistically take this with me unless I'm not bringing much else. It's not going in my backpack if I'm taking anything else with me, and I'm certainly not flying anywhere with it, but if I'm bringing it to a weekend cabin trip it is perfect.
The simplicity of it - the fact that it is solely Bluetooth - could be a pro or con. It does feel as though it should have WiFi so you can cast music to it in full quality, perhaps have Assistant capabilities, and do things like Spotify Jams which leans right into the "bring it to the party" use case.
The Bose app is pretty decent - it has its quirks, but overall it's pretty fast and easy to use. You're really only opening it if you want to clean up paired devices, update the software, or mess with the EQ which you're probably not doing often.
The removable handle is interesting. I'll be curious what kinds of accessories they come up with to utilize that feature. The handle it comes with is extremely sturdy, featuring a rubber casing around a very thick and robust braided cord. The whole thing is built like a tank.
If you're considering this product, you're really between this and the Portable Smart Speaker, which fills the "smart" gaps I'm bringing up here. This objectively sounds better than the Portable Smart, but the 360 sound and WiFi of the Portable Smart kind of make it a toss-up for me, especially since you can use them in all the same ways and they're the same price. This has better sound & battery.
The only real issue I've had with it so far is, despite being advertised to support SimpleSync, it really doesn't work for me. It did for the first time or two, but ever since then the sound crackles and sounds terrible when I try to sync it with my Bose Soundbar 700. I'm sure they'll fix this. I haven't had any issues to speak of otherwise. This may or may not matter to you.
The sound quality is the real stand-out feature of this. It will fill any room, and is excellent outdoors, although you certainly lose the punchy bass you get when indoors. It kicks. It's loud, clear, and never seems to distort. Bose continues to impress here.
Overall, this thing is fantastic, and I'd recommend it if you're looking for a simple Bluetooth speaker with huge sound and don't mind lugging something fairly big and heavy around. If any of those things give you pause, you might want to look at the Smart Portable or other options. At the price, you can certainly get more features in other products including in Bose's own line-up, but you probably won't get this level of sound.

Performance- Rich, full sound with a great balance of treble and bass. No peaking on high volumes and easily able fill a room and/or cover a space in a mid-size gathering. App based EQ can further implement a specific sound profile to match different genres of music. My overall rating is specifically tied to its robust performance.
Size/ Portability- A lot packed into a little. For comparison, it's roughly the size of a Fiji water bottle and easily able to fit into any backpack without hogging too much space. With that, the control panel buttons are sized just right, even for my thick fingers. Another high point.
Build- When you first grab the handle, you may be slightly surprised at how heavy the capsule is. With that weight comes confidence in the build. This is a solid, sturdy road companion. I have no issue toss around, getting wet, or placing in the sand. A downside it there are no covers for the power or aux inputs, but there is a warning system for charging. If there is water detected, the led will flash until dry. In any event Bose recommends fan usage for drying/clearing debris, so I can still feel confident in taking it wherever I boldly go. This goes for the handle as well. Very sturdy, without the need to be delicate.
Battery- The first 10% of the fully charged battery disappeared after about an hour and some change, which I assumed I was going to get roughly 10% per hour. But, I've been at 80% for well past that metric which gives a solid plus for battery life. Of course, the louder the play, the shorter the battery life, but for sporadic usage, the battery has surpassed satisfaction.
Finish- This is where I find one of my main issues. The finish of the Max is a rubber based matte coating. While I know it helps with durability, it is terrible for keeping your speaker looking its best. All knicks, dust, specks, marks, etc. show on the surface and are not easily removed. So, if you're going to put this speaker to hardship, let it be known it will look the part over time. Also, I have known such finishes to not do well over time with oxidation. Only time will tell, but this is/has been my experience.
App experience- Easily connected to several BT sources with/without the app. App adds EQ and quick settings so it will be advantageous if you like to tinker with your sound. The app has been improved since my last foray with the S1 Pro. So far, dependable and useful when I choose to use it.
A few things to wrap up. The first is the Shortcut button. It is promoted as programmable, but the only choices are for the AUX and Spotify. I'm hoping that can be expanded through a software update at a later date, as of writing this, it is simply a disguised "source" button. I would love to set the button to my preferred music app of choice.
Second, there are no in-call options. No mic or speaker output of calls. That can be a hit or miss feature, and they chose to exclude it here. When you take a call, music stops, call is taken through handset. Once call completes, music automatically resumes with no interaction needed. Not an issue, but is one of those features that should be noted.
In closing, The Soundlink Max lives up to the boisterous claims and satisfies just about all of my needs and wants in an on-the-go speaker. A worthy companion.
