My original book was so loved that I passed it on to someone else as a book exchanged and ordered this one as my replacement! The immense sorrow and heartbreak that is in this book still has me sobbing everytime I read it. But the love and freedom that comes along into the story gives the reader hope for a better life. This book holds near and dear to my heart. It will forever be a part of me. Khaled Hosseini's writing captivates the reader in a way that makes you feel as though you are living with these characters and feel everything they are feeling. This is a must read for me. I am working on buying multiple copies of this book!

It embarks the journey of two woman whose paths cross.The storyline goes back forth between Mariam (who's unwanted discarded, then is forced to marry a much older man) and Laila (who is much younger than Mariam-fate would have them marry the same man).It really puts in perspective what woman in Afghanistan deal with but you also have this sense of understanding that we [woman] are still treated this way. In regards to the sacrifices woman take, what we deal with by men, even our own family members and so much more. It's a powerful read. Many women I have learnt had accepted Islam through seeing the rights and responsibilities a husband must have to his wife and how marriage is treated. There are undoubtedly a plethora of stereotypes, Muslim stereotypes in this book and of course a lot of them are lies but maybe I'll leave you to figure it out :/ Now my conclusion to this is a little of a double edged sword. I think you perhaps should read it as it will teach you what really suffering is and grant you a newfound level of patience and then perhaps you should absolutely not due to the very incorrect image of Islam you may well receive at the end of the book.
