detailedReviews: detailedReviews 1: content: What you probably don’t know…
The media could not be loaded. It does what you expect. On top of the Gradient Lightstrip for my TV, I also bought the play bars. You can isolate each light into individual colors. If you’re not new to the LED scene, then know you should be familiar with setting scenes with the app. When everything arrived, I immediately started setting up. The first problem I had was connecting the bridge to the internet. The first two lights came on but not the third. Without being connected to the internet, I can’t access the bridge with the app or move on with the rest of the installation. The solution to that, was that I plugged the network cable it came with from the bridge to the splitter I have. Come to find out, the bridge doesn’t work with splitters. Technically, the protocol doesn’t allow for it. You have to directly connect it to the router.I have a 70 inch Samsung Smart TV. I bought the 65” light strip. After setting up all the lights, the bridge, and the sync box, I was excited to play something colorful like Avatar or Spiderman(across the spiderverse). So, having smart tv and all I had to do was press the Netflix button on my remote and it brings me to the TV app(There’s a reason I say that) BUT, starting a movie, the lights just dimmed to the lowest white light and they were not synced to what was being shown on screen. The app kept showing me that nothing was connected to the sync box. I of course didn’t understand if I connect my tv to the box. After hours of research, I’ve done everything I could from getting different HDMI cables, to switching ends, to factory resetting the sync box, to seeing if my tv needed to be updated. I was afraid I bought a defective sync box. My last last thing to try was to call customer support. Surprisingly, after dialing the number, less than 5 minutes, I was on the phone with someone, which is impressive.Come to find out… to have lights sync, you can’t use it with TV Applications. You have to have a second source such as a PlayStation, Xbox, Firestick and so on. After learning that, I connected my PlayStation to the sync box, went to a YouTube video and it worked. So if you’re having this same issue, hopefully I was able to help someone out. Looking it up, I wasn’t the only one stumped with this same problem. All in all, after I got it to work, it’s amazing! The lights on top of a surround sound system, you don’t have to go to the movies anymore. You have an enhanced theater right in front of you. If you’re not watching TV, you can still work the lights with the app and either set a scene or choose whatever color(s) you prefer. It’s expensive for no reason. But you get what you pay for and that’s quality. You won’t be disappointed.P.S. The Bridge, Sync Box, and the Lights all use a big box plug. The blocky ones. So I had to utilize another power strip to get everything plugged in and working on top of everything I already had plugged.

detailedReviews 2: content: I only bought this ridiculously priced light strip so that it would sync up with whats playing on my TV. Then I found out that a sync box and bridge are needed to accomplish this. So $570 later just for a light strip on my TV. Then I found out that it STILL doesnt work with Smart TV apps, so I would have to run all of my apps from a Playstation or something. Absolutely garbage. Just get a light strip on Amazon and save yourself the hassle — trust me. I will be returning all Philips Hue items because they simply do not do what they advertise.

detailedReviews 3: content: Quite honestly the best purchase I’ve made for my home entertainment!
It is a pricey investment, especially when you factor in that you will also have to purchase the Bridge and Sync Box and/or the app. Please be aware that you will need these to make the entire thing work which becomes a $500+ investment. If you have it, it is worth every penny! The lights are powerful without being overwhelming, and seamlessly transition to whatever you’re watching. Complex colors are matched and makes your entire wall blend with the screen while making the image on the screen just pop. Setup is quick and easy (and I’m a clumsy oaf) and troubleshooting rare issues is intuitive.
PLEASE BE WARNED: a 2022 TV IS required. Otherwise you will be limited to the Hue lights only syncing to your entertainment accessories (Blu-ray player, video game system, AppleTV, etc.). Also everything is controlled via local Wi-Fi + Bluetooth. If you do not have Wi-Fi + Bluetooth this product is not for you.

detailedReviews 4: content: After a few years of wanting to do this to my TV, I finally invested in one. These light strips are incredible and completely change the way your home theater or gaming room feels! Highly recommend it for anybody who's been on the fence about this. Pair it with the HDMI Sync box to automatically sync the colors up with what's on the screen, which makes it even better! Plus, it works with your smart home (for me, Apple Homekit) through the use of the Hue Bridge. The three together can be pricey, but definitely worth it for me!
The only struggle I had with this was the mounting brackets for the back of the TV. I have an LG TV and the back is rounded slightly. The straight mounts for the top center and sides work fine, but the corner mounts don't stick very well. I'd rather there be 4 more straight mounts and I just round the lightstrip myself. It's definitely designed for a completely flat TV, but I got it to work for me. It's not that big of an issue though, honestly.

detailedReviews 5: content: The Philips Hue light strips for TVs is a great addition to a living room, media or cinema room. The strip lighting requires a Philips Hue bridge (and the Hue app) to operate. The strip lighting has the Full RGB range and the app offers preset scenes, as well as the ability to create your own scene / colour scheme. With the Hue app you can also have scenes formed through music using Spotify if you link the accounts.
If you intend to use this product with your TV the colours change with the visuals on screen you will additionally need a Hue sync box (and separate app) which is an expensive addition and NOT included in this pack. Fortunately I have one of these to make the most of the system. I find it works best in a dark room & dark walls reflecting the light.
I personally love the additional backlighting the strip offers and I feel it brings the viewing experience to life in a positive way and find myself using it every day and will be looking to expand the Hue system in other areas of the house.
Overall the light strip is a brilliant addition to a TV, and offers a fresh and delightful viewing experience, however it does need a significant investment in other equipment to make the most of it.

After spending all these extras, then after many google searches realise our Samsung TV is too old. What a waste of time and money. detailedReviews 7: content: Installed the these lights (w/ sync box) to my 65” Samsung (1080p) TV. This upgrade has been the biggest “wow” factor added to the home theater which also includes videophile caliber Blu-ray player (Oppo) and 5.1 surround sound.
The “surround” lighting provides an extra level of immersion to your shows, movies, sports & video games (commercials are even awesome to watch!!). You will get spoiled really quick once your eyes get used to these lights. It’s always tough going up to the bedroom TV after watching a movie or show with these…. Almost hard on your eyes not having the ambient lightning. We have demo’d these to a few of our house guests since purchase and they are all awestruck never even aware something like this ever existed.
The sync box works flawlessly. I haven’t experienced any lag or other hiccups from the video signal pass thru since installation. The mounts for the lights were easy to put on and as long as you clean the back of the TV with alcohol wipes you shouldn’t have any issues with them sticking to the surface. Getting the bridge & sync box communicating with one another is just a matter of downloading a couple apps to your phone and entering in your WiFi password.
This is not a cheap upgrade, but once you take the plunge and see the result, I don’t see anyone having a regret of purchase.
5 star upgrade! I can’t recommend highly enough!!

detailedReviews 8: content: This bad boy brought my dead tv entertainment area back from the grave. Like a phoenix it is reborn, with all it's Glory.
Beware if you are going to buy this for yourself you will also need a Hue bridge which is the only way to access the light bar via phone app. You can change the color with that. The colors are awesome very bright and beautiful. But the light bar will only change to one solid color, you can't have multiple colors like a sunset effect of peach or pink on the top part and purple or blue on the sides.
You will also need a Hue sync box, to get the color changing effects that project the colors of the tv. You can use a app on your computer that can be used as a alternative if you don't want to buy the sync box. But you have to watch the movies using your computer, than connect it via HDMI or whatever to your tv or monitor. This app is only compatible with the Hue Bridge 2.0 not the 1.0
And lastly the Hue sync box has 4 HDMI inputs and one output to your tv. You will have to use your blu ray, or gaming system, or HDMI fire stick to get the color changing sync effects. this light bar will not work on a smart tv. Repeat the apps on your tv will not get the color changing effects. The media or games has to be ran through the sync box than to your t.v.
After all this that I didn't know to begin with I still love it it's pretty awesome. Fire pit screen savers are way better, or anything fire is pretty awesome as well as all everything else.

detailedReviews 10: content: I did not realize that in addition to the $249 lights that you also had to buy a $50. If you wanted to sync video to the light strip then you had to spend another $249 for a sync box.
Installation was a pain in the rear end, the included guides didn't hold the lights. If you end up getting this light system consider an alternate adhesive and mounting method, it'll save you a ton of frustration.
On the plus side the software Phillips offers is pretty good, pretty easy to setup and use. People who already immersed into the Hue ecosystem will find it easy to setup and use.
The lights themselves are cool looking and worked well right out of the box. You may tweak things like brightness to your liking but overall it works.
In closing these lights are nice and easy to use but installation and cost are annoying. I returned these and got the Govee Immersion lights that do the same thing for $70 without all extras Hue requires.

detailedReviews 11: content: The Hue Play system is the realization of pretty much everything I hoped for when I first started to purchase Hue lights years ago. While I quite enjoyed my initial play setup using light bars, the gradient lightstrip really shines as the best way to synchronize lighting to media. It's an incredibly unique effect and can add a special level of immersion, especially when watching video with vibrant colors. I understand why Philips designed this to only wrap around the top and two sides of a TV, but I did opt to add a light bar below the set to provide color around the entire image. That may be unnecessary or even impossible in some setups. I occasionally still have issues with the box that operates the sync needing to be reset or, at its worst, temporarily interrupting the image being delivered to the TV, which can be quite annoying when playing a video game. The lightstrip itself, however, was easy to install and performs exactly as advertised, so it gets full marks from me.

detailedReviews 13: content: Good Points: So money wasn't an object when it comes to this but I do expect it to work for the price I have paid.
I use theses light with the philip hue sync which is the only way you should use them.
The 55 pack will not cover the entire TV. Just the top and sides. I thought that was very cheeky.
Before I say anything else I shall say fairly Tec savy and not one of the normal idiots you seem to find on the Internet.
My main problem with the lights is they randomly turn on. They even turn on when off commands are sent to the smart area and they happen to be already off.
When this happens once your alittle confused but this happens evey night and it grits me.
This is definitely not an isolated problem as I can see people have googled it alot!!
Improvement Points: Make it cheaper, for more money I expect no problems
Sort out the randomly turning on.
I'm not going to say how as you can pay me if I'm getting out my laptop to work on this.
Have the light all around the tv, your gaining enough profit already. Greedy money grabbers.
You need the philp hue as in one ap. I fear there is conflicting code with control over the lights.
Make it at least 120Hz compatible.

detailedReviews 14: content: I've been messing around with interactive tv lighted for a while, trying many different solutions. While the most expensive, hue works the best with the least amount of problems. However, with this price, you would think some corners that were cut that should have been left alone.
The tv mounting solution is not working and I'll prob have to get some 3m hooks to make it work properly. They should include at least two to four more hooks for this 5v size. The power cable is really short and you would think that for close to 300 bucks they could make it a tad longer. What worse is they try to sell you an extension for even more expense.
The zone count is OK, but compared to other systems and the total cost, I'd hope for more.
Long and the short, these work and if you have the budget for it, you'll be satisfied. However I'm a little tired of being burned by a premium product sales pitch and feeling short handed.

detailedReviews 15: content: Surprisingly cool but a real difficult install to say the least. We have an older Bose soundbar and our HDMIs run through the wall so that they are hidden. Oh, and by the way, you NEED the HDMI box as well as this strip in order for all this to work - that is another $200 or so. So before you get into this, make sure you are willing to spend $450 for some pretty lights behind the tv. Having said that, I would say that it is! That is officially nuts! At any rate, back to the HDMI, you will need the latest cables 2.0 and above for this to work right. And the app is confusing. We had a Chromecast Google TV setup. You have to plug that into the Philips Sync box and then run a line OUT to the TV. If you do that it will see the active HDMI port. It doesn't recognize lines in. For the soundbar to work, you have to then run an ARC HDMI cable out of the tv to the soundbar. If all that is done, you get some pretty amazing light shows. Its interesting for maybe the first day or two and then you really don't care anymore.

The only thing i was skeptical about was the price so i saved up some cash and was finally able to purchase the set up. I was not dissapointed. I would highly recommend this to anyone that wants to upgrade there entertainment system. The way the lights fill the room really gives you the feeling of being near the characters. Install was easy and so far no issues with the mounts falling off even after some extended watch sessions with the lights on and TV exhaust venting the heat. We also appreciate the ability to set 3 colors on the strip as my wife uses it to highlight her seasonal decorating.
Only downside is that to get the full use out of your lightstrip is that you have to have the Hue sync box. I primarily use my lightstrip for syncing from a PC while gaming but do occasionally use Netflix and Amazon Prime. Due to DRM requirements the desktop sync app won't work with either.

I have any sync box connected to the 2nd HDMI out of my AV receiver, and my TV connected to the 1st HDMI out as eARC. Anything my TV displays, regardless of input, will light up the lights. However, every time I change inputs, I have to fiddle with the box to re-sync it. The only reason I'm doing this is because I'm paranoid the Sync box might add a few milliseconds of delay, and since I want games to go as latency free as possible, I went through the extra hassle to set this up.

Without lots of messing about it’s unsuitable for any other than a TV on a stand. detailedReviews 25: content: I already had a standard light strip behind my TV, but I barely used it for Hue Sync because a single color means that the Sync Box has to decide on one dominant color per frame. That means that if you have a relatively static scene where say an object or person walks across, the light strip will flicker as each frame has a slightly different color composition. Doesn't matter if you have surrounding Hue lights, the effect is very distracting.
Not so with the gradient strip, as each zone stays relatively stable due to not having to adjust for motion outside its corresponding area. Night and day difference.
My only con with this strip is that it doesn't cover the bottom of the screen (the strip is effectively an inverted "U" for the top and sides only). But that's a very small con and barely affects the overall quality.

They definitely add to the TV watching experience. Very easy to set up, just simply stick to the back of the TV, kept in place via special mounts, then simple steps to follow on the Hue app to connect the lights to the Hue bridge. The only slightly frustrating part is you need the Hue Play HDMI sync box to have the lights interact with the TV. If you're using them for gaming for example on a desktop, you just need the desktop app, but for TV interaction, you need the sync box. Otherwise great product, loads of lighting options via the app or smart speaker connection and look great!

Although pricey, this is a much better experience. The light strip has different zones which make a seamless transition of the lighting effect.

The only slight draw back is that to use the lights you have to connect via Wi-Fi which does result in taking up a port on your wireless router and connecting to the Phillips wireless bridge (sold separately).
All in all this is a quality product that does enhance your tv and living room.

detailedReviews 32: content: Adds a lot to the television ambience. Love to change the colors on it using the Hue app to match whatever teams are playing sports during the games — the guests love it too!
However, be warned: the adhesive backing on the guide things that help you affix this to your TV wear off after a few months and then you're stuck with re-sticking them over and over again. When it falls behind your TV you run the risk of it damaging itself by bending in a way that makes it upset, and then you get flickering lights (if you're not careful). I'd expect the adhesive to work better when you're paying upwards of $250 for addressable RGB lights!

detailedReviews 33: content: Phillips has gone downhill. I began with hue products buying a starter kit with 3 bulbs and a Hue Bridge for relatively good deal. And they worked great. Later a lcd light strip came along and it was pricey but worked well and still does. So Dave then, they seem to value their products ( and their logo) more than they do quality. I got this gradient strip and a second light strip. Both are defective. Both. And it was brand new and over $200 for a gradient stop that when bent around the curves of my TV the lights in each corner short out or something and either don’t work or only green works on the corners. Very disappointing

It also supports 4k and has multiple hdmi port's to add other stuff. If you have any other hue lights this is a great addition you have the ability to sync everything together. The reason why im giving it 4 star's is because with the price you paid for these lights they could have covered the entire tv and not just the sides and top. Its also not that easy to install if your TV is already mounted on the wall. I really wish they would cover the bottom of the tv

This product was a little disappointing and whilst it creates a nice ambiance and effect to get the full benefit you would also need to purchase the Hue Sync box which makes the package rather expensive. The colour and light brightness is good. I found it fiddly to fit the light strip into the brackets which I attached to the television which subsequently popped out and it took a lot of attempts (around 15) for the Hue Ap to pick up and connect to the lights even after several rounds of unplugging.

Once plugged into the Hue Play box the effect the light strip give of is amazing. Our 65" is flat against a wall and it appears that the TV size is doubled with the multiple colours being projected from the light strip. It copies what's on the screen instantly and works well with the Sky Q box and Apple TV. For this to work in conjunction with your TV, you either need to have a Samsung compatible television (where you can download an app from the Samsung store), or if you haven't got a Samsung TV, you'll need to get the sync box which is a further expense.
The overall effect is quite impressive and it definitely gives an extra 'wow factor', when you're playing games or watching films.

Sticking them to an OLED panel was a bit nerve wracking as I was trying to apply enough force to get a good stick, but not so much as to damage the thin panel. No harm, no foul. Adding this light strip to my Hue bridge was as easy as any other hue light. I love that I can add it to a room like a normal light as well. It's done an excellent job brightening up a dark corner of the room. The effect while watching is awesome and it instantly won over my wife, who was initially skeptical (as was I). detailedReviews 66: content: The tv light strip comes very neatly packaged; in the box there is the strip, power cable (with a choice of UK and EU plug connectors) and sticky 'brackets' to attach to the back of your television and connect the strip to it. Instructions in the box are minimal but it is fairly self-explanatory. Tip: look for the black arrow on the strip that highlights were the mid-point is and start attaching at that point first. It is easy to miss and will save any worries about the strip being uneven on one side to the other!
It requires the Philips Hue Bridge and Hue app to work at all. If you want to be able to have the lights automatically sync to what you are watching or playing, then you will also need the Philips Hue Play HDMI Sync Box. We do not have this yet but I would look to buy in the future. Even without the Sync Box, this was a lovely piece of tech. The range of colours available were amazing and the app provides a selection of pre-set themes for you to quickly get started. Customisation is easy and lots of hours can be enjoyed trying out the various combinations. The static backlighting really created a vibrant mood to enhance tv and films. If you have a smart tv and Spotify, the Spotify app can be linked to the Hue app to sync the music with the tv strip which is really fun!
I would suggest combining the tv strip with other lights in the range for a full effect in the room. When using a pre-set theme, each bulb will automatically be adjusted, and it creates a truly vibrant atmosphere.
The product is good value for money but if you are buying with the expectation of the fully synced experience, you will need to invest in the HDMI sync box, which I would say makes this less appealing. Personally, I was thrilled with the static options but you should be clear on what you are wanting before you purchase. We have previously tried other brands on the market but this was far superior, and we are now looking to upgrade to more products in the Phillips Hue range.

detailedReviews 67: content: I was expecting to return this because I didn't think it would fit. It's meant for 55" TVs. However I saw some other folks online that managed to get it to work. Philips says in their instructions that you should place the mounts 2-3 inches from the sides of the TV, however doing so on the 48" OLED would cause the light strips to stick past the bottom of the TV a few inches.
The included mounting solution seems to be working well so far. Initially I bought 3 Hue Play Bars to work with the Hue HDMI Sync box. I didn't care for the mounting solution they provided and really needed to get 3 more to get the visual affect I wanted for the distance my TV is from the wall.
This lighstrip accomplishes the same without leaving any gaps and since it doesn't stick as far out from the TV does a better job getting the light on the wall behind it.
My picture below might suggest it sticks out past the side of the tv, but it doesn't. While you can see the light strip if you step a few feet to the left or right of the side of the TV, this doesn't bother me as I'm not viewing it from these angles.
The design of the back of this OLED does provide a bit of a problem with the bump out on the sides in the middle. However with careful placement I'm confident the lightstrip isn't going to move. It might be helpful to order a couple more mounting brackets used for the side or top to go on those bump outs. I tried double sided sticky tape but it had trouble adhering to the rubberized surface of the back of the lightstrip.
For me, the backlighting reduces some eyestrain watching in a dark room. Though hyperspace extending past the edge of my tv is pretty cool.
App control is easy, thought I did add control for the Hue HDMI Sync box to my Harmony remote and added easy buttons to the touch screen for adjusting the brightness and intensity so I don't have to grab my phone to turn it on.

detailedReviews 68: content: Awesome experience to add to our TV, gaming and other video experiences. Music is nice but not coordinated in the same manner as video. we use this with the Phillips Hue Play Sync which is the way to go, Setting that up is tricky and took some experimentation, but we have it working with 4 devices routed through it to the TV. That would be another review though! the color rendition is exceptional and goes from brilliant to nuanced and moody. Wonderful, easy to install.

detailedReviews 69: content: Decent product. It’s not as great as Philips would have you believe. Perhaps if you lived in an Ikea ad with pure white furniture against pure white satin sheen walls with nothing hanging on the walls or sitting anywhere near your tv, the dynamic impact would be better, but if you don’t live in an all-white sterile environment, the effect is not very noticeable at all.
There are two big problems with this product:
1. It does not illuminate below the bottom of the screen at all. This leaves out roughly ⅓ of the screen’s perimeter and makes the 3-sides only effect uneven and wonky.
2. The sizes listed on the light strip aren’t sized properly for most modern screens. We have a 65” LG CX OLED which should have been an easier fit than most TVs of the same screen size as these LGs, as with most other OLEDs, have nearly zero bezel or frame surrounding the screen.
Philips’ installation instructions state that the light strip should run the full perimeter of the left, right, and top sides, and that it should be positioned between 5 & 10 cm from the outside edge of the TV (so, roughly 2-4” from the outside edge at most). Instead, the 65” light strip only covers a portion of the 65” OLED’s screen.
We had to pull off and reattach the adhesive holders several times to stretch things as much as we could, but in the end, we only managed to get each side to extend down to about 8 inches from the bottom and to get this much of the sides covered, had to move the light strip inward to around 10 inches from the outer edge and even then had to go with a very large radius curve away from the corners to have enough slack to at least make it functional.
This means the light strip sits around 4-5 times further from the outer edge of the TV than it is designed to do. This drastically reduces the outward spread of the illumination and in turn causes the colors to blend together.
For the VERY expensive price tag, Phillips needs to address both the bottom and sizing issues.
In the meantime, if you have a 65 inch OLED, buy the 75 inch light strip.

detailedReviews 70: content: I love the lights they are worth the money. But why I am giving 1 star is due to the adhesive stickers that the light comes with for adhering to the TV. They just plain SUCK!!! I did everything to ensure that the adhesive would stick properly but they did not. They have fallen off numerous times already! Which I had to improvise and use some duct tape just to get my lights to stick onto my TV. I am already immersed into the Hue systems family so there's no switching to different lights.

detailedReviews 71: content: This fits so well around my LG OLED. Super easy to install, I recommend getting some alcohol pads to clean off the area on the back of the TV that the mounts will attach to since it tends to get dusty back there. But the color matching is great, and it’s a lot of fun to use especially if you have an existing Hue setup. This is definitely become an integral part of my entertainment center for my family.
Yeah, definitely a little pricey especially when you’re having to purchase the Sync Box as well. But well worth it in the right environment.

title: Color matching great, fun to use
detailedReviews 72: content: I previously had 3 of the "Philips Hue Play White and Color Ambiance Bar Lights" and ended disconnecting those and the "Hue Play HDMI Sync Box" and parking the set in storage because they were sluggish, not that accurate, and the HDMI box constantly messed with Apple TV 4K's video settings and I was not able to use Dolby 4k without the LG OLED TV constantly turning off and back on -- forcing me to a lower 4K setting and negating the reason I spent the money for the setup.
I recently saw and then bought the new "Hue Play Gradient Lightstrip" and set it up with the HDMI Sync Box again -- and finally am happy with it all. The colors surround the TV back on 3 sides (top, left, right) in one loop and accurately and instantly display the matching colors reflecting on the wall behind the 65" TV (which is setting on a console and not wall-mounted).
It was easy to mount the loop with 3M stickies and they seem to actually stay attached (the Bar lights would fall off the back of the TV in the middle of the night and scare everyone in the house).
There has also in the meantime been a firmware update to the HDMI Sync Box and everything actually passes through as it should have 2 years ago (Apple TV > HDMI > Sync Box > HDMI > TV) and I can run Dolby 4K again.
The setup requires a separate "Hue Sync" app on my iPhone, but it works well and perhaps one day when I am not feeling so lazy, may automate the process. Right now I just open the app (just when I want to watch good shows; not Cheers re-runs) , turn on the lightship from the app and click "start".
When I am done, I put the Apple TV to sleep and it also puts the HDMI Sync Box to sleep as well, so I don't have to access the app again until I am ready for them again.
I am so much happier that Hue seems to finally have gotten this right. My two teen-aged great-nephews were over the other day and both jumped up to check the back of the TV when I turned the lightstrip on from outside on my phone, after I had glanced inside and saw them watching TV without it.
Perhaps a bit pricey setup overall, but it does a good job and really makes TV ambient against my white wall -- especially at night, but also during the day it casts a decent but more subtle ambience.

title: Finally happy with Hue setup
detailedReviews 73: content: As a recent convert to smart lighting (I've started replacing bulbs all over the house with Hue smart bulbs), I'd held off on investing in the TV lighting strips, unsure if the experience was worth the relatively high entry cost. Having used the 75 inch strip for several weeks now, I'm happy to say it's a fantastic product and a genuinely brilliant addition to our home entertainment setup, both when watching films and gaming.
The initial install and setup is very straightforward- if you have any existing Hue products, you'll know it's a couple of clicks in the app to add it to a room. The unit works with the Hue HDMI sync box, or independently to produce a fixed or transitioning backlight effect.
The light cast on the wall is bright, with really vivid colours. I have a custom movie mode set up, which dims all the other hue lights and produces a soft purplish gradient effect from the strip, giving the room a cool cinema-like feel when I'm watching Blade Runner for the millionth time. I also have presets for gaming, with the gradient strip synced to a PS5 via the Hue HDMI box to produce a responsive and accurate colour-matching effect, which really adds to the experience. This is where the gradient strip truly shines and earns its asking price.
I would definitely purchase this or similar in future. If you're on the fence as I was previously, I'd say if you're a fan of other Hue products you won't regret buying this one.

title: Fantastic product, brilliant addition to setup
detailedReviews 74: content: This light strip is an impressive addition to the Hue smart lighting range although it really needs the additional 'Sync Box' (not included) for the full benefit.
The lighting strip is well packaged, with clear installation instructions. It doesn't take long to fix the strip to the back of your TV and as long as you get the right size you can't really go wrong - plastic brackets are provided that guide and secure the strip. It runs along the top and two sides, not the bottom.
Setup in the Hue app is also easy. We've got a number of other Hue bulbs so also quickly added this to a room setting.
I was pleasantly surprised how the effective the strip is in enhancing the ambience of the room. You can use an array of colours or multi colour scenes to suit, including themed programmes for occasions such as Christmas. The strip has 7 'zones' of which you can choose up to 3 colours to display along it.
Our TV is in the corner of the lounge which probably isn't optimal as the lighting is dispersed. It still looks good but would imagine more impactful if it's flat against a wall. Also, one corner is against glass patio doors which does mean that the light strip is very noticeable in the reflection. Just got to remember to draw the curtains!
It's a good product to add backlighting in and of itself, but the 'Sync Box' would really bring this to life - with the light strip changing to whatever colours are displayed on the screen. It could well be one of those things that you really didn't think you need, but wouldn't do without.

title: Good product, enhances room ambience
detailedReviews 75: content: We have been using this for a few weeks now. We don't have the (very expensive!) Hue Play HDMI sync box, but we have been using it as ambient lighting behind the TV, as you don't have to use the sync box to run it as a standard light strip, thankfully.
The packaging is all cardboard, no plastic here, plus some reusable velcro straps - well done Philips. The sticky bits to attach it to your TV are made by 3M so look like they will stay stuck. I was surprised by the mid-point connection between the strip and the power adapter - it has a really flimsy plug, that seems like it could easily get bent.
The strip paired with the app after a couple of goes (we have the Hue Bridge). Since then it has had one wobble where after turning it back on at the plug, the app refused to recognise it. Another power cycle and it worked itself out.
The app gives you control of brightness and colour, and you can choose from a warm/cold white-only colour wheel, or from one that gives you the whole rainbow of colours. The scenes on the app are really nice, like choosing a 'dawn' type one in the morning. Sorry if this is all really basic stuff but this is the first 'colour changing' Hue lamp we've had!
It's very bright when at 100%, and the max output is rated at 20W, so actually quite a lot by today's bulb standards. Maybe something to bear in mind if you plan to leave it 100% for a lot of the time.
In summary, it is quite an expensive way of getting some ambient lighting behind the TV, but it is at least well made and the right size to fit the TV. We also have the option to add the sync box at a later date if we want to. Plus there's no doubt it is a quality product, in typical Hue fashion.

title: Surprised by how much difference it makes
detailedReviews 76: content: The most expensive lights you will ever buy most likely (next to a proper chandelier). They look incredible though, but the biggest caveat is you need the hue play device which is essentially an HDMI hub to take advantage of the color sync features.
It makes sense, how could you have a color responsive system without it getting color data from something. So HDMI is what sends it color info to sync, but good luck finding a Hue Play device in stock. This separate base station is $250-300 and is not manufactured currently. So sort of a dead product unless you just want a light strip behind your TV (which you can get for $40 or less with WiFi and the same no-sync features).
If somehow this became a software update that does not require a HDMI hub base station that acts as a passthrough for all my devices, I'd update the review to 4 stars, but still not 5.
To be 5 stars, I need to be able to use the color-sync feature with my consoles, and my Smart TV media apps (not FireStick, or Chromecast, again you need an HDMI in between the TV > Hue Play > Console/FireStick). In addition, the Hue Play hub is just not even for sale so this is an incomplete product as it is. But the colors do look nice, and are exceptionally high quality. Just not worth nearly $200+ for being a dummy strip.
Phillips is out of their collective minds if they assume this will make them money without a software update. And you will need to have available power behind your TV, i.e. run a power cable/extension cord through the wall mounting otherwise you have no way to light a wall mounted TV without having exposed, dangling cables below the TV.

title: Expensive for a dummy strip
detailedReviews 77: content: The packaging of the Play strip was, as with all Hue products, really nicely setup with everything easily accessible and simple to put together. The brackets for the back of the TV were easy to fit (althought took a bit of adjustment to get the exact positioning of the strip correct for the size of TV) and then plugging it in just meant finding an actual plug socket I could use for it.
I've got a Play box for the TV connection and once I'd gone through the usual steps of adding my strip to the Hue app setting it up in an entertainment area was really easy as usual. The light from it is reasonably bright but clear enough to give a nice halo effect around the TV and varies in colour around the length of the strip. When it's hooked up to the Play box and running it's really responsive and gets the colours spot on every time - perfectly matching the colours in the different sections of the screen.
All in all it's really been excellent with only one minor quibble - the connection to the power socket at the base of the strip is a little loose which means nudging it can cause the cable to become slightly dislodged and it needs to be plugged in again but given that this only happens occasionally it's something I can live with. Would thoroughly recommend to anyone willing to add a little more to their Hue setup.

title: Responsive and accurate color matching
detailedReviews 78: content: I cannot say enough good things about this product it has certainly transformed my viewing experience.
It was relatively easy to set up and there are plenty of step by step guides on you tube if you are a bit unsure, then download the app and you are good to go.
As my tv is in the corner of my living room and not on my wall, I thought that this may possibly deter from the overall effect however I needn't have worried as it lights up the whole corner and has exceeded all my expectations.
The surround colours all blend perfectly and it makes whatever you are watching so much more enjoyable, the accuracy of the colours when syncing with your tv is perfection and brings your TV viewing to a complete new level. It also gives you the option to have just a solid white light background rather than syncing your tv which I tend to use when watching daytime television.
I have read a few peoples reviews regarding how the light strip only covers the top and 2 sides only of the television and it may be better to have a strip for the bottom too, personally I find this better NOT to have a light at the bottom as it would highlight cables which could be distracting. This has certainly given me an insight into how effective mood lighting can be and I am looking forward to adding more Philips Hue products into my life.......yip I'm SOLD.

You also have the ability to adjust the brightness and intensity of the lighting effects.
I will admit that it’s on the high end of cost, as is all of Hue’s products, but no other smart lighting matches Philips Hue quality. All in all, this light strip, with an OLED TV and a quality sound system will truly make the movie theatre seem obsolete.

You know its going to be good...The LED light strip was quick to install; we followed the instructions and the brackets were easy to place on the TV with high quality adhesive. Great idea for leaving less residue when removed. The lightstrip is thick, robust and superb quality compared to other products of a similar type. It literally took minutes to set up which was delightfully surprising as often in my experience things are tricker than you think. The Phillips hue app is really good; very intuitive and I was able to add this to my home system seamlessly. Once switched on there is a range of colours - there is even a fireplace setting - and in the evening I am using this now and keeping my other room lights off. Sensible too with the current cost of living! I also think that you could use this as a stand alone Phillips Hue product - without the need to have your whole room linked up - so its a great introduction to Phillips Hue. detailedReviews 84: content: Finally ambient lighting that works! I have owned the original Ambivision which stopped working, then got the Lightberry kit which took a ton of work to get it working (for advanced users for sure). I ended up having to replace the LED strips and a second video capture unit, but even then the LED’s started to flicker. This Hue Gradient strip just works and looks great! It’s not as detailed with only 7 capture zones, but in some ways it’s better and not as distracting. The Hue strip blends the onscreen colors very well. It say’s it only has 7 colors but it sure seems it has more than that. It is unfortunate that it doesn’t cover the bottom of the TV, but I added 2 light bars to the bottom, which now covers the light spread all the way around the screen. The gradient strip uses the sync app which works in tandem with the Hue app. There are 4 different intensities and also brightness control. I keep intensity level on extreme and brightness at about 75% which switches onscreen detail quickly, and produces plenty of light to cover the walls, ceiling and floor around the TV. Another great thing about the Hue products and Best Buy is you can get the protection plan in case something goes wrong which the other cheap systems don’t offer.

detailedReviews 85: content: This is a gradient light strip which can be used either as a full colour (with 5 different colour zones) light behind a TV, or you can connect it through a sync box (separate purchase) to match the content on your TV. I've just used it as a full colour light and it does a great job of giving good atmosphere to the room for watching films or to light up a hard to reach part of the room.
The set is quite easy to install, you attach 5 plastic mounts to the TV (which fix via 3m tape attached to each mount) and then (carefully!) run the gradient strip around the mounts. Took about half an hour to get set up for me.
I've connected mine to an Alexa, which took a little while to get set up (linking the Philips Hue and Alexa accounts took a few tries) but now works really well controlling the light through Alexa voice commands.
The light strip can produce a variety of colours to suit the atmosphere you're aiming for, and works well once installed. I think it adds to watching films and would recommend it for anyone looking to improve their TV set up!

Set up wasn’t too bad.. until I had to connect the lightstrip to its control box. The cable bent almost immediately and the lights stopped working.

I do want to give it another shot, as I have the sync box and Philips bulbs around my tv.

Feels quality and does a much better job at “surround lighting” than the light bars which produce hotspots. Does not cover the bottom of the TV, but is not an issue if the TV is mounted on a TV unit. Accurately produces colours reflecting the content of the screen when paired with the sync box, also acts as ambient lighting when the TV is off. Recommend pairing with a sync box.

title: Better than light bars for surround lighting
detailedReviews 93: content: This would have been a perfect rating if not for the ease of installation. The lightstrip is not as flexible as one would expect like the previous Philips Hue White and Color Ambiance Lightstrip. It came with plastic “corner guides” which allows the strip to fit snugly when it goes on the corner edges of your TV, but since the strip is so rigid and “uncooperative”, it tends to snap out of the gap where it was suppose to be in and ultimately it just hangs wherever it wants. My TV has an uneven backside so the strip cant even lay flat on the back panel of the TV and makes it is so difficult for it to be held down even if you apply a double sided tape on it. I would say the previous Hue White and Color Ambiance Lightstrip was such a breeze to put on that it makes you wanna forget about the missing gradient feature it lacks that creates the stunning visual effect it when you use your TV for viewing or streaming music.

detailedReviews 94: content: The lights are a natural, next step in adding to your viewing experience. They can be subtle or enveloping depending on how you integrate them. Makes your screen size seem larger and immerses you in what you’re watching. You need to have the Hue Sync box to really show them off.

title: Changes viewing experience for the better
detailedReviews 95: content: We have a lot of Hue lights in our house and garden and we were skeptical if this smart lighting would work for us, we have a dark painted lounge so wasn't sure how the lighting would look . We also do not have the the Hue sync bridge which a lot of reviews recommend that you need to have. After using now for a couple of weeks we have been surprised at how much of a difference it makes to watching TV, we have really enjoyed the back lighting it provides when watching the amazing frozen planet series.
We have tried a few different colours but we prefer just to use a blue light as it really works with our dark coloured walls.
Don't be put off purchasing if you don't have the sync bridge , we are more than happy with effects it provides without this extra bit of kit. Easy to set up and easy to use with the app and alexa.

title: Surprised by how much difference it makes
detailedReviews 96: content: The Philips Hue Strip Light is a game-changer for ambiance. It's easy to install, thanks to the adhesive backing, and the range of colors and brightness levels is impressive. The app control is seamless, allowing you to set the perfect mood or adjust lighting remotely. While a bit pricey, the quality and versatility make it a worthwhile investment for transforming any space into a vibrant and dynamic environment.

detailedReviews 97: content: Bought this to go behind my 65” OLED TV, and man - it works great!
I bought it used - excellent condition, and the only complaint is that some of the adhesive was already used, but it was easy to just buy some cheap 3M adhesive foam to replace the factory Philips stuff.
One recommendation to have this working perfectly: I highly recommend installing your Hue Bridge as close as possible to your “Hue Play Entertainment Area” it makes a colossal difference.

title: Works great, recommend close Hue Bridge placement
detailedReviews 98: content: Great product. It pairs to the hue bridge and Hue HDMI Synch box flawlessly. The effects are obviously eye catching. Everyone who has seen my set up is impressed and I only have this gradient light strip and two hue bulbs in two lamps next to the couch. Movie watching is stunning and playing XBOX games are fun. The Philips Hue eco system is pricy but I have no regrets. I also didn’t buy all the products at once. Either pace yourself and pick up one item each month or save up to make the big purchase. Either way I enjoy the effects these hue products have.

detailedReviews 99: content: This product may seem silly/excessive at first gosnce but it truly changes the entire viewing experience for the better. It never loses its wow factor and doubles as a nice backlight at night. For gaming, its even more immersive. One if the better purchases I have made. Worth every penny.

detailedReviews 100: content: Placed on a mounted 50" TCL TV and also included a pair of play bars and a cut Hue Lightstrip on the bottom of the TV. Looks fantastic when paired with the Hue Sync Box! The extra length was not an issue, as I just mounted the strip a little higher (about 1" from top of TV). A recent update to the Hue App also allows you to adjust three separate zones to create a "gradient" look when not syncing and I love the look. You can find cheaper lightstrips from other brangs but the Hue ecosystem is fantastic. Highly recommended.

title: Looks fantastic with Hue Sync Box
detailedReviews 101: content: Amazing TV light product from Philips Hue, easy to set up and with the mounts that are supplied it fits my tv perfectly! I have previously tried adding strip lights to my tv that are a lot cheaper than these and they kept falling off and din't look very good but I have not had this issue with these ones at all. You can also see the back of my TV as it is in a long room and the lights don't look messy on the back, they have a very sleek and classy look about them. I love the fact that you can have multiple colours on at once and it really enhances your viewing of the tv as it draws your eyes towards the light. Would highly recommend.

detailedReviews 102: content: Works absolutely great. Four stars Only because the price is maybe a little bit steep as you also have to purchase the sync box.
Installation is a little bit tricky, you do have to be careful with the strip. I think placement instructions could have been a little bit clearer. It was difficult to work out how high up the strip was going to be. Also you have to put in light bars or a light strip at the bottom of the TV to make the effect complete. Once its all set up its great.
Some options from the PC sync are missing eg. Use audio for effect

detailedReviews 104: content: Excellent backlight for your tv. I would recommend connecting to the hue app before installing as well as checking the length of the light strip before you mount it. Depending on the tv, it will likely not go around the entire outer edge.

title: Makes gaming and TV watching better
detailedReviews 106: content: Very easy to set up, and provides good gradient light. This is more expensive than the gradient light strip, I bought this because it was going around the edge of a 65 inch TV. The amounts that come with it are very worthwhile, and the length of the strip is perfect. It does recommend that you have two people to install it, I would recommend this but I did it by myself which was not a huge deal. It may have been a little bit nicer to install with another person since you would be able to have someone on both ends, but it is definitely doable by yourself.
