If you have the budget for something more premium, then Sony won’t let you down. For the first time after owning Bravia TVs for 20 years, I also signed up for Sony Pictures Core. Despite some negative reviews, it’s a solid icing on the cake, which I wish I had looked into sooner. It’s not like other streaming platforms and acts as more of a movie catalogue, with some included movies and other more recently released titles requiring you to purchase. But you get 10 free movie tokens to redeem with the purchase of a new Bravia TV, which allow ongoing access to purchased movies, rather than just renting for a temporary period. Less

detailedReviews 5: content: I bought this TV after seeing it in store. I had spent a really long time ( almost 2 years!) looking for a good TV. I must say this was worth the wait- It has changed my viewing experience! Films are cinematic, tv shows sharp and the sound is perfect. Really enjoying this TV and would highly recommend. The HD is superb, but will obviously only show HD when the channel/ programme has it (so some channels that are not in HD will still be blurry- something I was not aware of before). Overall very happy with the product and John Lewis for the great delivery service. Thank you!

U can customize everything to suit your preferences. It's a TV that you control, not one that controls you. We've had Sony, Samsung, and LG in the past, but I'm glad we decided to go back to Sony-it's even better than I expected. The Dolby Vision and Atmos are excellent, and we've paired it with an A8000 soundbar, which still allows sound to come from the TV as well. It looks fantastic mounted on the wall, and the picture mode really looks seamless.I didn't like the Google Home screen, but found video to get it off and showing apps onlyHighly recommend!

With having had the Bravia lcd I thought that going for another Sony TV was a no trainer. Looked at all the brands and options on offer and the Bravia 8 was the best picture and value I could find. The picture quality is amazing, you can see the pimples under the presenters make-up, the x box x has come alive and the 4k screen is worth the money. The staff at HN were fantastic and Sony truly make a high classproduct and is worth the money.

Turn it up - it doesn't distort. This set sits very near the table so don't plan to have anything in front of it but do realise that the low profile and tiny bezels mean that this 48" set seems no bigger than the old 42" one we had - a nice surprise. Now this set was more than twice the price of any we've had before but think about how much time you spend 'consuming content' on your TV and how happy you are with the current setup and it can easily make sense. It has lots of discretely hidden connection at the rear but all we have connected are the power lead, aerial cable and Blueray DVD - remember those days?! A single beautiful metal remote tops of the package. Two minor niggles - 1 - No Apple TV app yet but it is promised by the end of the year and in the mean-time you can Airplay from your phone or iPad for the same 4k content. 2 - No live TV pause on the Youview guide - just access the content from the app if you want to pause and of course anything you select that is not currently being broadcast will do that automatically anyhow. Now TV, Amazon, Disney TV and every other app naturally have 'pause' built in anyhow. All content from old SD through HD to 4K, from Youtube, Apple TV, Netflix etc. looks great; with the quality getting more dazzling as you go up the food chain.4k is coming - His Dark Materials is on 4k on the iPlayer now - just check you've got good internet before you make the commitment. The picture is fantastic, deep black, sharp definition and contrast. The design is pleasingly minimal and the edges incredibly thin so it also look OK when it's turned off.Importantly for me, the TV is ready to use within a few seconds of turning it on. My previous Sony Android TV (a 2019 model) wouldn't respond to the remote for nearly a minute and was always slow to respond to the controls. The fact that the remote uses Bluetooth is also great as it works regardless of where you're pointing it.

detailedReviews 23: content: Very easy to set up, takes about 30 mins in total to get it installed and up and running. Picture quality is what you would expect with a TV at this price point, very detailed and vibrant. Sound is a vast improvement on previous flat screens. Yes a sound bar would certainly give it a boost but unless you are looking for a full cinematic experience the sound from the TV in terms of quality, presence and volume is probably enough for most uses.HD and Ultra HD broadcasts are a joy to watch, like most modern TVs SD channels look pretty bad but that an issue with the source material and not the TV.Highly recommended if you are in the market for a TV under 55inches. Without a doubt the best available at the moment.

Compared to previous lcd models the remote control gets an exponential amount of workout so I hope it’s resilient. The screensavers and music are really nice. Integrates with iPhone well but looks like integration with iTunes movies etc via a tv app was shunned, not allowed or overlooked. Casting from the phone works ok though. The free 10 movies from Sony is welcomed although most you will already have seen. Kudos for the few new ones that are there. Would still recommend but report card would say capable of doing better for such a premium price. Less

Poor quality daytime tv however will look worse in my opinion on a bigger telly such as this 65 inch. All in all I think the TV is good value and a significant upgrade especially in sound quality from my old LG OLED bought nearly 10 years ago. Anyone who has difficulty hearing the dialogue on some programs and especially films with loud background sound affects will find this tv is capable of significantly improving the audibility of the dialogue and projecting the sound from the screen which acts like a speaker. However, after changing the brightness level, and changing the picture mode to vivid, it now has a beutiful picture. He gave it to his daughter after her divorce (she has 3 kids) and it's her only tv. It's still going strong. I bought a 55" Samsung in 2017. It went out in December 2023. The sound without a sound bar is pretty good and adequate if you don't require a full surround sound experience. There are a few things in the set up that worry me, from a privacy point of view, so just be careful as you give permissions.Colour calibration was not too bad straight out of the box, but be aware, trying it yourself can be tricky if you don't understand the technicalities - it's far more than brightness and contrast. The supplied documentation is pretty useless, but there are some informative videos on the net that demonstrate how the parameters work. I've been tweaking for a few days now and I'm pretty close to how I like it.I'm pretty pleased with the product now that it is enhanced, but I could not live with it sound-wise in just the boxed state. detailedReviews 62: content: I spent a lot of time researching TVs and kept coming back to Sony. The choice of the Bravia 8 was a last minute decision but I am so glad I made it. Picture is great. Setup was easy. But it is the sound that has impressed me the most. The integration of my sound bar with the TVs in built speakers is seamless and significantly enhanced the quality of the two individual components. Fabulous.

detailedReviews 63: content: First, the quality of the image is superb; amazing clarity and, very importantly, totally natural colours rather than the artificially bright 'technicolour' provided by many modern televisions. The quality of the sound is also excellent, especially given the very shallow depth of the TV and limited space for speakers. A feature my wife and I find really useful is that she can listen via her preferred option of Bluetooth noise-cancelling headphones while I can listen via the inbuilt speakers and we are able to adjust the volume separately to our individual preferences. Finally, although the onscreen controls are fairly intuitive there is also a printed manual to refer to if necessary - a vanishingly rare option these days.

It just worked and the auto-tune functions for terrestrial and satellite signals easy. You do need to be careful in choosing the satellite and it can take time to remove the unwanted channels from the vast number stored. There is no distinction between tuning into scrambled and un-scrambled signals. Connection to the Internet was a breeze, as well as other external sources such as the Apple TV box and the Blu-Ray DVD player. Upscaling of video from older DVD disks is also impressive, although our DVD player automatically upscales to 4K.The Android OS on the TV is well-designed, easy to navigate and use. The TV remote is well designed and works perfectly via Bluetooth. The only integrated App that is the weakest is the catch up services provided is rather clunky. We use the Apple TV for all the catch up services such as iPlayer, which provides a much quicker response and easier to use. Choosing to watch video shared wirelessly from our iMac, iPhones and iPads is very easy and just works a dream. The ordering process through John Lewis was very good, with delivery within the designated 2-hour time slot. The crew were efficient and effective. After unpacking the TV they were extremely careful when handling the TV to avoid any damage to the screen. We are extremely pleased and very delighted with this purchase. In our view a superb quality Smart TV. Less

Same, familiar software but runs faster and smoother than Chromecast with Google TV.The colours and brightness are perfect for where we have installed it. Haven't tried to use it with broadcast TV but the streaming is smooth and reliable.Only thing that isn't great for us is that you can only pair one remote control to the TV. With Chromecast you can pair multiple remotes which is extremely convenient.

The Vendor, initially, refused to change the TV and insisted on a repair because it was more than 30 days old.Eventually the vendor realised they were in breach of consumer law and have now replaced the original faulty TV with a new TV.So far after 10 days the new TV is fine. Let's hope that continues as this is the only Sony TV we have purchased which has had any sort of problem and we have been purchasing Sony TVs since 1980!

Superb motion playback while watching sport with inky blacks as expected from an OLED TV.As an avid photographer and some video recording I have loaded a 128Gig USB Stick and connected it to the tv for playback. They look fantastic. Only downside is the built in Sony media player is very very basic. Best app I found for playback cost $20:00 a year subscription fee.

detailedReviews 70: content: The picture on this TV is great! Sony's just have a depth to the picture that I don't see on other brands. I deducted one star due to a "board malfunction" problem, which caused the set to die in one day. Shocked that would happen with a Sony but Crutchfield was amazing, as always, with their customer service, and got a replacement out to me quickly. I guess after decades of buying Sony, one problem in all those years is not a big deal. Again, Crutchfield's CS made the issue a minor blip.

I bought it to go with my existing Sony soundbar. After putting the feet on the tv and deciding on best position for them as more than one height setting I wasn't quite happy that the tv feet were in the way of the soundbar. Surprised legs can't be firmed up, has a bit of wobble, but is safe. HDMI Arc occasionally triggers the stereo unit while TV is on standby. The legs can be placed in several positions to accommodate a soundbar or narrow for a small stand. After the initial set up I noticed the picture had an overly blue cast to everything. I know this is to protect against the notorious screen burn inherent with these sets, but makes for a very unpleasant watching experience. Also, there is next to no range in the brightness setting anyway (can't see how you could tolerate anything other than the max setting). And, I experienced motion artefact - some juddery images on fast moving stuff. In general, the picture edges are not super sharp either. Very disappointed. I can honestly say my 12 year old Sony was sharper. Also had problems with the wifi - kept cutting out. Watching 4k stuff online (youtube demos etc) is brilliant, and viewing movies in the dark is super. All in all though I've been very disappointed. The set was almost twice the price as the Sony 49xh9505 I was considering buying. It is no way twice as good. Mine is being returned and I'm getting a refund. Until they sort out the brightness issues and burn in I'd say be very wary. Makes me wonder if this is why some (like Samsung) haven't gone down this OLED route. Less
