Performance: The M1 chip seems to be very powerful for pretty much anything even video editing. However, for video editing and more resource intense tasks I'd recommend the Pro model. I love how it never gets hot and it's always quiet. I mainly use it for office tasks and it runs very smoothly. For gaming, I'd recommend a gaming laptop/PC since MacBooks are not built for this purpose.
Battery Life: It has good battery life, it really depends on the usage but I can browse, watch videos, check emails, FaceTime and work on Word or Excel and it can last the full day (about 6-8 hours) with some power left. I rarely use it on battery which could have a negative impact on my battery, but it definitely has good battery life.
Display: There isn't much to add, it's beautiful, text and images appear sharp and the True Tone technology adapts the color to the ambient lighting which is nice. Overall, it's a beautiful display and you will notice it.
Keyboard and trackpad: I love to type on this MacBook, it has the upgraded keyboard which is more reliable and durable than the messy butterfly keyboard from older models. It's comfortable to type in and it's very quiet. The trackpad, like any other Apple product is among the best, I don't think any other laptop comes close to how nice the trackpad is.
Software: It supports the latest OS as of the time of writing this review (Sequoia) and it's compatible with Apple Intelligence which is nice, it doesn't add many features but it's nice to have compatibility. In terms of software support it's still updated by Apple, based on older MacBooks and their lifecycle it should support OS upgrades for at least 2 years, and perhaps 1 or 2 more years after that of security updates, but it's not official until Apple confirms it. This can be important if you're thinking of keeping it for longer than that since many apps drop support for older OS versions after a while. In addition to software support, an important aspect of Mac OS is the compatibility with other Apple devices and how nicely everything integrates. If you don't have any other Apple devices it's still a very powerful laptop that can be used as just that, a laptop, but being in the Apple ecosystem I can notice the advantages of the OS integration with my iPhone, iPad and AirPods.

You don’t hear any noise because it has no fan. It stays cool, too, which surprised me. Just smooth and quiet all the time.
Battery Life
This part still shocks me — the battery lasts forever. I’ll charge it at night and forget about it, and it still has power the next day or even the day after that. Like, I’m not stressing about finding a charger when I’m out or at a coffee shop.

I have ran games such as Fortnite, Minecraft, Roblox, etc. and let me say, it was a huge jump from my 2016 Intel MacBook Pro. I was used to my MBP overheating while on FaceTime, but the MBA stays cool as a cucumber. (This also includes the games listed previously) The M1 chip is by far the best bang for your buck, and I think the design is way better than the M2 MacBook Air. When running both the M1 and M2 side by side, they’re pretty much identical. The MacBook is slim and portable, and very lightweight. If you do need things like a dual display setup, or that much more processing power, then the M2 might work better, but if you’re like me and are just using a MacBook to surf the web from time to time and not run as much heavy software, the M1 is right up your alley. (Not to mention AppleCare is a lifesaver! Recently one of my keys broke off my MacBook, and I went to go get it replaced, free of charge! Definitely a must if you’re able to buy it!)
Overall, it’s a great machine, and you just can’t beat Apple. Would recommend in a heartbeat!

The package was very secure upon arrival. It came with 3 boxes and was bubble-wrapped inside (very secure). I ordered it on April 15, and the package arrived the next day on April 16. The shipment was so fast, and based on my observation, the courier really prioritized this package for immediate delivery. The customer service was very accommodating. They answered all of my questions regarding this MacBook.
I also did research before buying it. The MacBook M1 is still worth purchasing even if it’s not the latest anymore. It’s still fast and very sleek—perfect for office use. The battery life is quite okay. In my experience, the battery charge lasts up to 15 hours of continuous use.

Coming from Windows laptops, I was cautiously optimistic. I had heard good things about MacBooks, particularly when it came to build quality, battery life and performance. I can happily say that the device has lived up to my expectations.
The good:
Battery life has been phenomenal. I can charge the device to 100%, take it off the charger and use it lightly for a few hours for multiple days before needing to charge it. It sips battery when in sleep mode. I don’t use it for very intensive purposes, but I’ve been happy with it.
Build quality is grade A. The aluminum is smooth and cool to the touch and I’ve yet to feel it get more than lukewarm. The keyboard has the perfect amount of travel and clicky-ness and is amazing to type on. The speakers are sufficiently loud and clear.
Performance has been practically flawless. I’ve noticed a hiccup or two, but far fewer than I’m used to on Windows laptops. The interoperability between Apple devices is unmatched with my Apple Watch, iPhone, AirPods, MacBook and AirTags working together perfectly.
The bad:
There really isn’t much to complain about here. The 13 inch screen is a bit of a trade-off. Wonderful for portability but kind of hard on the eyes. There really isn’t much else to note. The webcam is sub-par but if you have an iPhone, you can use its camera instead.
Overall, a wonderful device and well worth the cost, especially if you are otherwise in the Apple ecosystem already.

Never had a Mac anything before, but have Apple phones/Ipads. Coming from a Windows PC, there is a bit of a learning curve/tricks and shortcuts (keyboard functions). But Apple products can work together (like photo sharing and such) and if you have an Apple ID already, you're ahead of the game at first startup. Most likely there will be an Operating system update to do when you start it up, so expect that. Doesn't take that long.
Difference between the Mac and the iPhone is that Mac will not have the Apps your phone does. You will have to navigate through Safari/Chrome (whatever you choose) and setup bookmarks instead. Not a big deal, just be aware.
Battery life so far is crazy good. I used it for two hours, for example, and lost 8%. I've never had any latptop do that. I enjoy the quick startup when you open the cover. Fingerprint reader is slick. Even a full restart is fast.
I'm just digging into the machine and the Operating System, and I know I'll be doing photo editing and some videos very soon. Will add MS Office in some way too.
Love the "old" style exterior, it fits this laptop very well. Sturdier than the plastic on some of my older laptops. And its light enough too. For the price this is the way to go for casual/moderate computer users. Even if Apple only supports updates for the next 4-5 years, it will still be viable for a few years after (for me). Since they are selling more of these in 2024, they may support it longer?
You can spend more for faster chips, more memory etc with newer models, it's up to you and your budget. Never thought I'd buy one, but at the $699 price it worked with my wallet. The lower price doesn't make this unit "cheap" or less capable, I applaud Apple for trying to make it more affordable and attracting a larger audience.

I waited 7 days before I reviewed the product. It waaaas great. This is my first macbook, and so far, I’m loving it. The battery lasts 15-17 hours depending on how you use it. As for me, I mainly use it for work — data entry, emails and Zoom meetings. This is a great product, and even though this was released in 2020, goods pa rin siya and I don’t think na you will notice the difference with M2.

The M1 was a game changer.
The balance between battery life and power is incredible.
The screen is still one of the best out there, speakers that don't make you wince and a resale value that makes most Windows machines at half the price far more expensive to own overall.
I usually upgrade to the last every 3 years and give one of the kids my old machine, but the M1 macbook is so good I have just kept mine and bought my son, now starting GCSEs one as well.
As long as you don't want to be playing the latest triple A games it does everything so well.
I do music production with mine and video editing using DaVinci, and it does it all so well.
With Cash back this was around £750 new, a 3 year old used one is still £600 if boxed and mint, which shows that once you are on the Apple train it is very cheap to keep upgrading.
They loose around 25-30% over 3 years, Windows machines loose around 60-70% over the same period.
One of the best tech products I have ever purchased and I am a tech junky.

I’ve had mine since release and this machine buzzes like no other. It literally never hiccups. They kind of screwed themselves when making this thing as great as it is because there really has been no need to upgrade for the average user.
What is average? My use case is browsing the web, streaming video, plugging it into a 4k 32” monitor of which NEVER lags even with the increased resolution and a ton of apps open on that larger screens surface area.
Unless you need the newest to showcase your status, this thing will do and continue to do everything you need it to.
I wish this price point existed last year as I bought one for my wife. I continue to this day recommending the M1 over the increased pricing of both M2 %26 M3.

The M1 Apple silicon chip is like a hyperdrive spaceship compared to a high performance sports car of the "old" Intel i series of processors. 8GB of RAM is perfectly sufficient. If you think you need more than this, potentially consider a MacBook Pro of the same year (though the specs are very similar).
The 256GB hard drive might be a little on the small side for some, but as I have company access to MS OneDrive, the majority of my storage needs are fulfilled by the cloud. Similarly, I personally have very little need for multiple input ports, but some may find this limiting, especially as the charger takes up one of the two available USB C inputs. This is where the M2 devices have a bit of an advantage over the 2020 edition, with the addition of MagSafe charging.
The styling and weight it an absolute massive win for me as well!
My general experience of Apple products is: YES they are expensive. BUT if you don't treat them like a fashion accessory they are usually good for many years of use compared to Android (tablets and phones) or Microsoft equivalents. Once you do the cost per year calculations, they're actually not *THAT* much more expensive and in my eyes are a far superior product. Thankfully, there are plenty of people out there who can afford to treat these things as a fashion accessory, so there is almost always a healthy supply of good quality used devices available.
I wouldn't consider purchasing one from online auctions. You might save a further £50 or so, but people tend to over value their devices there. They paid top dollar and expect top dollar back with none of the warranties offered by companies such as CeX! Yes, the warranty is limited, and you should check the Ts and Cs, but this is still better than no warranty at all!

It doesn't even have a fan, so cooling is not an issue, even on the most demanding use with the CPU at 100%. The laptop barely gets warm, making it comfortable to use on your lap.
Battery life is fantastic, it can easily last all day. This is the first laptop where I don't have to plug it in everyday.
This is the cheapest MacBook offering available right now with the M1 chip. In my opinion it represents the best "bang for your buck" MacBook offering right now.

The keyboard is light and responsive, the display excellent, the size and weight make the laptop highly portable, and the build quality seems to be excellent. In operation, it is completely silent. My existing wireless mouse and wi-fi printer (neither of them new or expensive) were immediately detected and "just worked." Everything (photos, files from cloud storage) integrates nicely with my iPhone and iPad (I'm a gradual convert to Apple equipment) and I have had no issues opening files originally created on Windows. Some features do work differently from a Windows computer (even the keyboard) and I found I had to read the online product guide in detail, but I would still recommend this laptop to other Windows users (like myself) considering a switch to an AppleMac.

I deferred writing a review until I get to use the laptop for a couple of days. So far, everything seems to be working as it should. The laptop was securely packed and delivered ok. They delivered it within 3 days, well ahead of the ETA (and I'm in the province). Impressive!!! THANK YOU!
The limited warranty is indicated as 1 year from the date the laptop was activated (March 26, 2024, expires 2025).
As for the usage / specs, I believe much has been said on online reviews and other platforms.. I'm not a techie myself, but I can feel that this laptop performs well and smoothly for day-to-day office tasks (calls, meetings, admin-tasks, web browsing, social media, YouTube/netflix etc..)
I'm no photo/video editor but you should be fine with minimal editing tasks, based on other online reviews.
P.S. the display is superb! Sound is good! I love it!!!

Apple was selling the same MacBook refurbished at twice the price. I'd no need to worry the company is awesome. One thing I would advise is , if you see one you like get it . Because if you wait or dither chances are when you come back to get it ,it may well be sold. That's because they are such an excellent bargain. I highly recommend them

My 5-year-old Lenovo laptop broke down after consistently using it working from home. I have to buy a new one and decided to get it here at Beyond the Box. I've been eyeing this for so long and at last, I've finally bought it.
I purchased this last March 15, and by March 19 it was delivered to my doorstep. The packaging is superb, with lots of bubble wrap and fragile sticker.
I've already used it for work for 2 weeks and so far everything is smooth. Unlike before, I'm always stressed about my laptop which keeps updating and lagging.
But now, during my switch, I become more efficient and can finish work in just a few hours compared to using my Lenovo Ideapad laptop which takes me the whole day just to finish the work due to its poor performance.

The Air is a little smaller and substantially lighter than the Pro; its power supply (30w USB-C PD) is much smaller and lighter, and as a bonus can charge many of my other devices. The 13.3" screen is the same size, similar resolution, and possibly a bit brighter (but the 2015 Pro had a superb screen for its time). Both have Apple's excellent build quality (the Pro still looks like new after 9 years of daily use). The Air can run up-to-date MacOS Sonoma and should accept further MacOS updates for several years yet, while the Pro was stuck at MacOS Monterrey. Finally, the Air is noticeably faster than the 2015 Pro. All in all, an excellent replacement and certainly more than adequate for my needs.

Whether you're a student looking for a reliable machine or a software developer looking for an on-the-go companion notebook, the Apple MacBook Air 2020 is still a great laptop in late 2022.
PROS:
Display: 13.3" Apple Retina display (2560 x 1600)
Apple's retina display has been a selling point for the MacBook line for years, and this computer is no exception. On screen text is polished, out-of-the-box color accuracy is phenomenal, and the resolution is stunning---at an impressive 227 pixels per inch. This portable laptop is more than suited for content streaming, supporting FHD video @ 60hz.
Operating System: macOS
As a computer developer, I work routinely in Windows, macOS, and several Linux distributions. In my opinion, macOS is the best operating system for the most people due to its versatility. It has a user-friendly GUI that feels smooth and crisp, making it accessible for even the most inexperienced computer users (my 80yo grandpa can use a mac no problem). At the same time, macOS takes full advantage of its roots as a UNIX operating system and provides an excellent terminal shell CLI in zsh. With developer tools enabled and the homebrew package manager, the macOS CLI feels quite familiar for those used to Linux CLIs. From computer geeks to grandparents, macOS is a great operating system for a wide variety of users.
Performance
I was skeptical of Apple's decision to move away from Intel processors at first, but I think the performance this Mac offers indicates that they made the right call. The Apple M1 SoC provides the power necessary for a wide array of applications. Programming on my Mac feels seamless, and for more than a year this computer was my primary machine for software development. I also create music using Logic Pro X, and the 16GB RAM model I own can run it no problem. The integrated graphics are surprisingly good, supporting tasks like content creation and gaming (I was able to consistently get 150fps in Minecraft with the default settings). Don't let the size fool you: this computer packs a punch.
Portablility:
The MacBook Air is advertised as being a portable system that can be used anywhere, and that has been true in my experience. Even after nearly two years, my computer's battery is at 93% of its original capacity and lasts for the entire day. From a full charge, I have programmed for 8 hours before needing to plug my computer in. Physically speaking, it is lightweight and compact when folded. Unlike my heftier ultrabook laptops, this computer is quite easy to tote around from place to place. I also personally like the feel and layout of the keyboard, and I prefer it to the updated keyboards on the newer Mac models.
CONS
Ports: Two Thunderbolt / USB-C 4 Ports and a headphone jack
This is my greatest issue with this laptop. While most machines come with at least a couple of USB ports, an SD card slot, an ethernet port and an HDMI port, this laptop lacks all of the above. The laptop used a USB-C charger, so while charging access is limited to strictly one port. In order to get the most out of this machine, you need to buy a separate type-c dongle that adds these extra ports externally.

I ordered online prior to store pick up so that I had 14 days to try the product at home while still able to return just incase there were any issues. The 2 year guarantee is really good too. We previously bought a MacBook for my daughter from Cex and when the battery failed to charge after more than 6 months we had the battery replaced under guarantee. Unfortunately after another year the problem recurred. As we were still within the 2 years guarantee period we were given the option of having a replacement battery fitted again, or the current store value returned to us as cash. We opted for the latter to upgrade the MacBook to a M1 version also from Cex. I wouldn't hesitate to use Cex again.

I recommend that if you’re gonna get this pop in the external hard drive to terabytes out, boom solve the problem so I don’t gotta spend more money on a higher memory built-in model it just doesn’t make sense.

This is my first MacBook and I love it! from the design to the color to the smooth surface of the keyboard and screen. This is really high quality. i love it more with the fingerprint sensor. It arrived pack well as if it was from apple themselves. Brand new and stuff. I heard a lot of great things for the M1 13 2020 base model and the performance I am please with it. although too soon to tell. the battery life is great. i like chrome but i dont think i will use chrome browser as it is a ram eater. I saw the news when the M1 Air was getting a new low price, and I thought hard and long whether should I get it at this price with the base specs on them or save up more to get better specs. I attend to use this for light work so i think 8gb is good enough for now. I can also expand the storage using an external storage or so. Is this a great buy? yes for light work and all. Light weight to carry around and still a great laptop for use in 2024. It can still get the job done. the 720p camera is not too bad but it is 2024.
overall i am really please with this MacBook Air M1 so far.
p.s. coming from a long time window user. this change up my work flow a bit.

M1 Small chip. Immense progress. I think that the brand new M1 processor made by Apple itself is one of the biggest upgrades to the new MacBooks. In the previous models, Apple used the intel processors that are also in the old Windows computers, but in the new MacBook this is no longer the case. Personally, I notice that the Macbook stays much cooler during heavy downloads, and it also stops making noise. I also noticed that the processor could open apps much faster.
In my opinion, I find the completely new design of the MacBook Air 2022 very astonishing! The design is made by different metals and glasses that ensure the Macbook will not brake after a little fall. I take the MacBook to school every day and I notice that the metals in the design of the MacBook make the laptop last much longer, especially when we talk about the outside of the laptop. The design also fits 100% with the rest of Apple's products, the MacBook comes in 3 different colors that perfectly matches with the latest iPhones and iPads.
Finally, I recommend this product to anyone, especially college students. This product is also 100% suitable for people who are involved in large projects in their daily lives, such as photographers or architects, especially because the MacBook contains the M1 processor that can handle a lot without unexpected annoying bugs.

detailedReviews 44: content: To start off this review on a short simple note, full disclosure, I brought this thing to it's knees and made it cry like a little baby, so I decided ultimately to upgrade the ram, but I am BEYOND PLEASED with how this unit performed. For a fuller review continue reading; This thing is a beast for what it is, better than a 2 year old full fat Desktop PC I made specifically to be compatible with the latest Versions of Mac OS (this laptop runs that thing in circles, and puts off practically zero heat, where as the Desktop makes the entire room hot, like sweaty hot). Parallels finally updated to run on these M1 Macs, so I got that and started messing around. Perfectly adequate for most Windows Exclusive things, trying to run GTA V worked but it was hardly an AMAZING experience, 30-45 fps (considering that is an x86_64 program running in an ARM based windows install, the fact it ran that well in an emulator within an emulator is actually amazing). I decided to twist the screws, and was running a cpu burner in parallels while watching 4k YouTube in safari on an external 4k Monitor, and running Messages, Mail, and the Background Processes that always run. I crippled it to just about a halt, took a couple minutes to get it to a point where I could end it's agony and restart it. Immediately on restart, it was just as snappy as ever (meaning it was the hardware utilization that made it crippled, not the heat itself). I'm very satisfied with this purchase, and YES, as you might have guessed, I am the demographic of people that hadn't bought an actual Mac since 2007 because my last iMac cooked itself to death in an AC'd house and managed to desolder the GPU from the logic board. I'm actually so satisfied with my purchase, counterintuitively enough that I sold this one to my brother for 600$ (he wants to get into hobbyist music production and hasn't had a computer in like 6 years) and ordered a 16gb version of this MacBook Air just so I can see how hard I can make that one cry.

(I "migrated" info. from the old laptop to the new one.) There was just 1 minor "glitch" -- which was NOT Walmart's fault. When the 1st ordering attempt wouldn't go through, I received a text from our credit card company's fraud department about "a questionable expense" on our account, and needed to assure them that I was indeed making the purchase. (I appreciated that.) Overall, it was an excellent purchasing experience from Walmart.

I got an incredible deal with Very getting . This Mac is incredibly fluid and easy to use. Obviously I was expecting it to run much better than my old beat up MacBook pro but the speed it loads up and way it works , transitions between programmes I am using ( Office Fibre, Spotify, Cuebase Music production, internet browsing) is amazing.
I wa looking at the M2 as well b ut heard a few things in reviews and my research that they over heat. The M1 2020 has no fan so is silent in operation but stays incredibly cool even when I been pushing it with music production ( which I could never of done on my old 2009 Mac) Im now a month in using this laptop and it is honestly the best purchase I made. Im really impressed with it in every way.. and for those of you that like the way most Macs have a backlit light up keyboard, yes the M1 2020 has that too lol.
I would definitely recommend buying one of these if you are looking to do similar tasks to what I outlined. it's amazing.

The MacBook is compact, thin and light so it’s easy to carry around in a backpack. The OS is easy and seamless if you’re used to Apple. Much better than the iPad OS. I felt the iPad was a compromise between an iPhone and a laptop. No compromises here. It is what it is. And the way it integrates with your iPhone is so smooth and efficient, you don’t need to pickup your iPhone when calls or messages come in. So it’s actually a steal at $699.

I love that I can use my phone, Mac and other Apple devices to all seamlessly sync with each other. For example: I could create a document on my Mac and then I could finish it on my phone later which is great for productivity. The battery life is also excellent too, only having to charge at least once a day and then I’m set for the day possibly even 2 days depending on usuage. The one I bought was in good condition and they could’ve gotten away with it being in mint condition, I got the original box, original charging cable and the battery health was 100% meaning it’s almost brand new. I would definitely recommend this to someone who needs a laptop, especially more if you already have Apple devices such as iPad, iPhone etc.

After getting used to the Apple keyboard shortcuts, the Safari browser, and the difference in saving files, I love it. All of the apps from your iPhone or iPad are on here already such as messages and music. The trackpad is the easiest I've ever used. I still used Windows PCs at work for my desktops. I bought a storage bag for it on Amazon for around $32 and a case for it. The structure of the MacBook Air is very thin and sharp so a case around it makes it way more comfortable for using in your lap on the couch. The M1 is 5 years old but feels light years ahead of anything else I've used. I can imagine that the M4 is amazing(I would recommend going for the newer one due to the length of updates from Apple). The M1 should be updated until 2027 according to various sources I've read. If you wanted a MacBook so you can have GarageBand on a laptop instead of your phone or iPad, note that the Smart Drums available on the iPad or iPhone app aren't available on GarageBand for Macbook. You have to use the loop browser for samples and copy and paste them in to a track. There are built in smart drummers that you can't actually record with but you can use them for rhythms. That was a huge disappointment but nothing a novice home recorder can't live with. The start speed of the computer is phenomenal. The Safari web browser is great but you'll need to add the home button and bookmarks icons to your browser(just a quick search will work for you). The built in Stocks and News apps are very useful. Try one! At $400 cheaper than the cheapest M4 version, it is well worth it in my opinion. No complaints!

Review after a week of usage: Legit product. Match yung serial numbers sa boxes (both carboard box and original box) and the device it self. It has one year Apple warranty from Apple support (this should match the date when we set up and connect the device sa internet. It also comes with the usual Apple purchase 3-month trials of their Apple Arcade, TV, at Music.
As for the packaging, device was really secured and with discreet labels. Upon physical inspection of the device itself, no dents and scratches. But a few days later, I did catch on a very small dead pixel sa screen, haven’t seen it agad kase I used it on light mode. I have never dropped the device or put pressure on the screen so 🤷🏻♀️
Para sa students or work, okay na ang 8GB RAM to handle most tasks, and just get external hard drive for your files. Pero kung heavy gamer ka, limited game options from steam.
Battery lasted me around 10 hours (from 100%) on my usual work tasks: email, browsing, light photo and video editing, with Spotify running on the background. Also, watched videos and played light games.

What I didn't like is that I paid more than 1,600 processing fee by merely using SPayLater. When it said 0% interest, it is STILL true NOW...However, when availed of the SpayLater service, it now charges you with an amount not even indicated on the billing breakdown and you wouldn't have any idea that you'd pay more than the given discount. 😅
It's cheating and tricking the customer as it will only show on the monthly breakdown automatically when it is already billed. It was suddenly added to the only SUPPOSED bill... The processing fee is added automatically to your monthly billing breakdown without your knowledge and you'll be surprised that your monthly bill isn't what you thought you applied for. LOL
I needed this item so I did still proceed regardless. But you guys who are buying this using 0% SpayLater, please be informed that the SpayLater team NOW has HIDDEN CHARGES in the name of processing fees unlike before when it was totally You See What You Get only.
That's sad. The 1-star deduction is because of that hidden processing fee added on top of my monthly bill.

It’s very light weight and smooth to the touch. It’s honestly the perfect laptop for anyone who is used to iPhone and Apple products. Everything is just so easy to have a connected experience with your other Apple devices. How shady is that? They sent me the wrong item, and they don't want to honor their own sale price for the replacement. They always bait people with sales prices daily on the walmart app. So you are warned, folks.
They claimed that if i keep the item, they'll give me a $20 refund. That was 4 days ago, but i still haven't seen it. days later.
Full transparency, i decided to keep the item for now since i have 90 days to retun it because i had bought accessories for it, and I also put it in an opaque case as well. It will be returned at some point, as i am very disappointed.

If you're pondering whether to go with the "old" M1 and if 8GB ram is enough, I'm happy to report that this package handles ~20ish Chrome tabs, some light scripting in Python/shell, and some streaming (Spotify/YouTube in the background) really well. The memory pressure and the CPU load stays pretty low and I have not noticed any lag. I did some photo editing and it handled that with minimal effort as well. All this while also rendering an external UWQHD display (3440x1440)! The growing theme with this laptop is that it's much faster, snappier/effortless, with much longer battery life than my past one. For reference, my last laptop was a 2017 MacBook Pro with an i7, 16GB RAM, and a dedicated graphics card.
I highly recommend it! It is great, and doubly so at this price point.

This MacBook was so heavily used the factory coating on the keyboard is worn down! You can easily see it was used by someone who does a BUNCH of typing every day. I probably would have just exchanged it without any hard feelings until I reached out to customer service.
They replied quickly but treated me like a fool! Stating I must not have understood the description properly. My reply was, if open box isn’t exactly what it says it is, then do not put open box anymore because it is a lie! (See photos I have attached)
I received an automated response to reply with REFUND or REPLACE. They were busted! I’m sure they do this in hopes they will get away with it sometimes. I’m very upset! This was a complete waste of my time.

Personally, It does the basics of what I need it to for this season; I use it to write, study, and run programs like Microsoft Office for school. I also use it to take notes, surf the web, and also stream music. Additionally, it supports AirDrop so transferring files between the computer and my phone is much easier. An added bonus is that the Apple logo on the lid lights up.
I will say this though: As this particular unit is now seven years old, there are some things that one might take into consideration when looking to make a purchase like this one. For one, the operating system is progressively being phased out, and there are certain apps and programs that will not run, (that is if you can get them to download). Please keep this in mind when purchasing an older model of any Apple product. Secondly, Since this is an older unit, the battery is also (I imagine) almost as old as the computer itself, so there may be some aging of the battery, where it may drain faster than it did when it was new. Depending on what it is you are looking for in a computer, this may affect your ultimate decision on making this purchase.
Bottom line: It works for me, and quite frankly, I really like it.
However, if you are looking for a MacBook that you can use for a few years WITH the capacity to access many popular Apps on the App Store, this computer is not for you. I would suggest making the investment of a newer MacBook Air, maybe a couple of years old or newer; Especially if you plan on holding on to it for a while. There are a number of factors to consider when making a purchase like this, so I would recommend taking inventory of what you are looking for in a computer right now, as well as where you might see yourself on the road ahead. chip very fast. I already have a mac Mini M1 16/512 as my main desktop machine which I've been using for the last 3 years,
so I knew the Macbook Air M1's performance would be excellent and well
up to my work needs for a lot of programs open at once, a lot of photo
editing in photoshop and lightroom, and occasional video editing. I
didn't know how much I would like the Macbook Air's 13 inch screen, but
I fell in love with the machine very quickly, based mainly on the
incredible quality of the screen, so sharp, and the surprisingly great
quality of the sound from the small speakers. Add to that a super thin sleek metal body, no cooling fan, and reasonable battery life, and it's a very appealing proposition indeed. Addition of a £25 usb-c
dock from U Green gives me the extra connections (hdmi and ethernet)
and sd card reader that I will need when using it for serious work when
away from my usual office. So, overall, it's great, and I just hope
that I get 5 years of reliable use out of it to justify the fairly high
price you have to pay to get the 16GB/512GB spec. When working,
incidentally, all my work and media storage is usually done on Samsung
T7 external SSDs, to save wear and tear on the internal SSD. (I highly
recommend the T7 external SSDs, they work very smoothly as the main
drive for video editing in Final Cut, which is probably the hardest test
you can give them.)

Long story short, the computer was totally faulty. It wouldn’t transfer her information from her previous mac and we had to return to store. The Geek squad (who was very kind and honest) said it didn’t even connect to the internet. Totally broken. It nearly cost her all of her data. So I order ANOTHER one. THIS TIME, I open the box in the store, just in case... It was even worse. See the photos I took in store - covered in dents, chips, scratches. I had such a terrible experience that the in-store team gave me a great deal on an open box mac instead, which I bought. I will give THEM a 5 star review on the West LA store's website but I will NEVER buy a refurbished Mac from Best Buy online again.

The M1 has been a stellar upgrade and is still powerful enough that this MacBook Air is not going to be outdated for a while. I wish there was an option to increase RAM and storage, but for under $600, you can’t beat it! Besides, they make external hard drives for a reason.
I will say the Gold is not so much “Gold” as it is “Rose Gold”, but it is lovely and unique, and goes great with many colors for a case which I highly suggest to protect the beautiful exterior.
I am a writer and have had NO issues with the “sharpness” of the palm rests as some other reviewers mention (and trust me, as a writer, I spend a lot of time in resting mode as I daydream).

Heck anybody looking for a laptop that you aren't going to be playing games on. For that I recommend a desktop anyways so yeah, this laptop and price is unbeatable. Mine came just like it was from apple, brand new the battery was completely dead which tells me it was sitting around for a while but I do have the chance to get apple care withing 60 days so I may or may not pull the trigger but regardless the 1 year warranty should suffice as am careful with things and if anything goes wrong it won't be my fault.
But really guys and girls, this is a 10/10 price value experience, you won't find another device that matches this for $699. It really is the sweet spot. Plus, this M1 chip is fire, they really outdid themselves. Stays completely cool, battery lasts like 12 hours, I could go on, but I feel like I'm putting myself to sleep here just saying the same thing over and over again in different ways.

Pros:
- Powerful and responsive enough for daily browsing, tasks, and some light gaming.
- Virtually silent, because of no fans.
- Extremely portable and lightweight.
- Glossy Retina display for deep blacks and movie-watching.
- Lowest price point for entry into MacOS.
- Great for pet owners. There are no fans on this device, so pet hair won't get trapped in them.
Cons:
- Gets hot if playing games longer than an hour or so.
- Gets hot under extreme workloads.
- Glossy screen can strain eyes under bright lights and prolonged use.
- Screen size is small, perhaps too small for those who plan to use it as their primary computer. 14" would probably be bare minimum.
- Limited ports. You only get 2 USB-C ports and 1 Audio jack, and 1 of those USB-C ports is your charging port.
- Upgrades are prohibitively expensive, and not worth it. Things like more memory, screen size and more ports will easily run into the $1500 range for a new Macbook.
This is probably the only other Apple device (aside from the Mac Mini) that is competitvely and reasonably priced at less than $1000. The next step up would be to pay $999 (before tax) for something like a M2 or M3 Macbook Air, which, in my opinion isn't worth it. Gaming is also not really worth it on Apple devices, because for about the same price you can either build or buy a decent pre-built that will absolutely handle most modern games. But if you play lots of old games or do only light gaming, you should be fine.

You will need to either restart the laptop, or wait about 20 minutes before you can click settings on the Finder program and crash it. The other issue is the mouse disappearing. It’s obvious that the mouse is registering with the system, however the cursor itself is now where to be seen. This is fixed with simply closing the laptop lid and re-opening.

I called the store bc it’s like 60 miles away from me. They also said they couldn’t do anything bc the return/exchange period was over, why is it only 14 days btw?
So in the end, I just reached out to Apple bc thank God they have a 1 yr warranty on all their products, so now I’m getting the battery replaced.
These don’t come new looking either, both were scratched in some places and dirty. The chargers also had yellow stains on them. I thought refurbished meant newish??
Never getting anything from here again…

5. Best used for video, music and photo editing, NONE of which I do.
Cons (sort of) I messed with a gold one at my local store.
1. I'm a musician, but I don't record these days and I'm not really into video and photo editing.
2. The Interface is okay if you like to type, which I do. But most use Iphones and Ipads now.
3. I don't find the Air that appealing aesthetically speaking. Too thin, and not enough ports. Hence the cheap price.
4. Lastly they have told people be aware that this is a 2020 model, nearly 4 years old. And as of March (24) it's discontinued, and will only receive updates until about 2027 (and be relevant). Even at $699 that's just to much money to use for a few more years. Even though it's a powerhouse you could buy about 4 Chromebooks and get nearly the same result, minus heavy duty tasks.
Also Ipads are just more user friendly, with the cameras, portability, easier to facetime etc. As are phones. Which 95% of Apple owners have already. So imo this just isn't worth it. Even though it's a good deal for the power it has. I'll stick with my $249 Ipad I bought from WM. Battery lasts forever, I already have 2 windows laptops and a desktop. So having this would be pointless. I did purchase it, but i took it back to WM the next day. But for those Power users, this is a great price. Just remember, it will be outdated soon. Another thing about a Chromebook is that they're supported for up to 8 years. So tbh, I'd buy one of those for your kids and an Ipad, for less than this. Thanks!!
