detailedReviews: detailedReviews 1: content: We decided to build a new Home Theatre and we decided we needed to have presence in the room, so that meant a big screen TV. We were originally going to go for an 85" until we discovered that Sony's new X90L range had a 98", so we bought that instead.
The 98" is an incredible panel. It's not OLED, but it really FEELS like an OLED, and that's despite not having micro LED arrays. Dolby Vision is amazing on this. Blooming is at an absolute minimum considering the array size, and the colour is deep and rich with amazing contrast. I am gobsmacked at how crisp and colourful the image looks with Blu-Ray movies and games - HDR on a panel this size is a joy to behold.
We are also really impressed with the image processor - free-to-air TV and other low-quality content is scaled up beautifully and de-interlaced almost to a point of looking like a true 4K image. Even more impressive is the minimal input lag this processing (including things like motionFlow) imposes.
The software in general is a big step up. Google TV is a great interface (and you have the option to setup your TV as a "dumb" TV if you want as well), and the interoperability between the panel and our AV Receiver is seamless. Google Assistant integration was easy to do, and we also decided to buy the BRAVIA-CAM add-on which allows you to do hand gestures to control basic functions of the TV, and puts up a message to warn people not to stand to close to the TV and blocks your view until you move away again.
If you need a big TV, it's difficult to look past the XR98X90L. What a beast.

detailedReviews 3: content: I would say this Sony Bravia 98 inch is an absolute wonder when you realize the size of the screen. Some of the positives are a great picture for every day, television, and Google TV is the interface has added some simplicity. Some of the downside is the heavy, heavy weight of this TV makes it nearly impossible to have flexibility once it’s in place. The same goes on delivery, it took four men to get this up to a second story apartment. I live in Birmingham, United Kingdom, and flights of stairs and older buildings is very common, so be aware that if you buy one that you’ll definitely need the help. In terms of the films , I would say that it’s good. The Samsung 98 inch equivalent, slightly cheaper, but also has has crisper screen. I bought the Sony, because generally for every day television it is superior to the Samsung, but for film watching experience, the Samsung does appear to have an edge over the Sony. Overall, very happy with my purchase, and especially love the Google TV integration with Google Home. I also have an Apple TV connected, which was actually an excellent experience versus the LG TV I have in the bedroom.

detailedReviews 4: content: Have had this Sony 55" TV for two weeks now. It took a bit more time to set up than I'd expected, there is no user manual but you just follow on-screen instructions which included having to download the Google Home app before you could complete set up on the TV. I then had to spend quite a bit of time editing the "Custom" picture options to get the picture to my liking. I don't really consider this a negative as I expect that most quality TVs will go through a similar setup, it's over ten years since I bought my last TV and things weren't so interconnected back then.
Having got that out of the way, the HD picture quality is excellent and has significantly enhanced my enjoyment of watching programs. The SD upscaling seems good to me and SD programs are very watchable but when you switch to an HD program you really notice the difference, the detail is fantastic and really makes dramas come alive. What I wasn't expecting was how different the motion is compared to my old TV, everything looks so natural. I don't use it for gaming, my main viewing is sport, some drama (missus loves Midsomer Murders and all of the later series which are in HD look very good), documentaries and YouTube videos.
Straight out of the box I was a bit disappointed with the sound but once I'd adjusted the lower frequencies to boost them up a bit it's fine, we don't watch a lot of films and won't bother with a sound bar, however, I can see why you might buy one if you love your movies and want a "bigger" experience.
The Google interface works well and it's really easy to switch between apps and input sources. I've also found that the YouView EPG works well and it's very convenient being to watch programs going back over the last week. However, I will continue to record some programs on my separate hard drive recorder as you can't stream in HD from my5.
Can't really comment about UHD as there is so little content available. I streamed a couple of UHD programs from the BBC iPlayer and was a bit disappointed as I couldn't see any difference between UHD and HD for dramas such as "Austin", the iPlayer settings seem to think that the screen resolution is only 1280 x 720 (HD not UHD) so I'm not sure if it's actually playing the programs in UHD.. I have an open issue with the BBC querying this at the moment.
Watching the majority of programs in HD this TV has a really impressive picture quality. It came with a Sony 5 year warranty extended by a further year from Richer Sounds. I'm very pleased that I bought it.

The HD picture quality is very impressive, I've also been surprised at how good the motion is, I'm not talking about fast-moving sports but just how people move when watching dramas, everything looks very detailed and natural.
I like the YouView EPG interface, being able to watch programs from the last week is very convenient, and selecting apps and input sources is also easy. The Google interface is generally intuitive.
The sound quality is ok for me but I can understand that some people may want to buy a sound bar for a more cinematic experience. I found both the sound and the picture were a bit disappointing straight out of the box but it didn't take long to customize the settings to get the most out of the TV.
One other positive is that on my old (11 years old) TV I have had problems with reception on some channels but that has almost completely disappeared on this TV so I assume the tuner is better than on my old set.
The only disappointments I can think of are:
1) Although you can stream programs from the channels on U: TV (what used to be UKTV Play) such as Yesterday via YouView, there seems to be no way of installing the U app. So if I want to watch programs on demand from U, I have to select a random program from the previous week in YouView so that it launches the U app and then I can go back from the random program to the main menu and then search for the program that I really want to watch. It's a bit irritating that I can't just select the U app directly as I can for the other streaming services.
2) What appears to be the default Sony Internet Browser crashed and froze everything so the remote controllers had no effect and I couldn't even switch the TV off using the button at the front of the TV, I had to physically unplug the TV to reset it. I rarely use the browser and there are other Internet browsing apps that can be downloaded so I'm not too bothered but it seemed a bit naff.
Overall I've been very pleased, especially as it comes with a Sony 5 year warranty.

detailedReviews 6: content: We had a bargain television from another company that started having issues after only two years of ownership. After some research, I checked out the Sony Bravia XR X90L.
The difference between the Sony and the former brand TV is night and day. The X90L's picture quality is much brighter with more definition, more color and more accuracy overall.
We used Goggle TV on the previous TV and it works the same on the Sony. Very easy to access apps. In fact, the apps are much faster to boot up now.
Both movies on Ultra 4K discs and streaming look excellent on the Sony. What came across right away, to my eyes, was how much more depth there was to the picture. Actors and local newscasters on the X90L appear more dimensional and lifelike.
Another surprise I discovered was the difference in sound quality in my home theater/stereo system. My preamplifier works like a 5.1 channel preamp. I use the optical output from the preamp to the Sony's optical input for surround and stereo sound. The X90L audio passthrough is a lot cleaner than the previous TV's optical jack. I don't use the Sony's speakers for sound, in other words.
The X90L is an excellent television.

This TV required very little adjustment out of the box, in fact, I never touched any settings for the first week and since then I’ve only adjusted brightness slightly to suit my viewing environment, the picture is outstanding!. I also adjusted the audio slightly via the built in EQ (great idea Sony!). The sound quality from this TV is excellent & I’m an audiophile!
I can’t fault this TV and am looking forward to years of trouble free viewing.
For the people complaining about screen lockups & freezing, you’ll find if you have alternative streaming devices plugged in, the issue is with them, turn the wifi off on them while not in use and I guarantee you’ll never have another issue as stated above. It’s not the TV’s fault, it’s the other devices competing for bandwidth while in idle mode, I suspect. I have an Apple TV streamer and I solved this issue years ago, just turn off the wifi and you’ll be all good. I tend to turn off the wifi to the TV sometimes if I’m on my Apple streamer & this problem occurs. (It hasn’t on my new TV though).
I thoroughly recommend this TV, great value, great performance all round 🙂

1. The TVs Visual Quality is absolutely stunning, I have had many guest witness the visual capabilities of this tv and all of them were left speechless in regards to the spectacular clarity of the picture. It easily competes with more expensive OLED TVs and is significantly cheaper. I’ve seen OLED picture quality and this TVs clarity it just as good and if not better.
2. Gaming, running video games at 120fps is no easy task but this beautiful tv does it flawlessly as it is easily able to handle every feature the latest Gaming Consoles and PCs can throw at it. Also has built in Features in the TV to display crosshairs on screen which is a great bonus.
3. Only minor negatives I have about this product is the weight of the TV, if you plan on mounting it on the wall make sure you have 2 strong individuals prepared for the task. Also I do wish there was AV cable inputs on the back for older plugins but that’s not a problem if you buy an Audio Receiver with it. STR-AN1000 is what I went with and works fantastic with it as the TV itself has a Sony exclusive built in feature that makes the TV the center speaker.

Setting up the tv was extremely easy, even easier if you have a google account. Having this tv has helped me make the decision of deciding to get a Sony Bravia Oled as my living room tv and move this tv to my bedroom when the time comes. The sound of the tv on its own is fantasitc. I have a Bose sound bar connected and with the sound and picture this tv provides its like being in a IMAX movie theater. Also, owning a ps5 this tv has made gaming even better. Tv supports 120hz and the picture quality is outstanding. This specific model is a fantastic choice if you want a tv that provides great picture, sound, features and video game experience, without spending more then $2,000. The bonus of this all is that it is a google tv that you can install various different apps on. I am extremely happy with my first sony tv and look forward to purchasing a higher model from sony in the future.

My husband and decided on a few models and went to Best Buy and 2 other locations. Best Buy was the only place that has sales people to ask questions and that actually had answers. We had not originally planned on the Sony but after viewing it in the store and talking to the salesman we started to lean that way. We did our due diligence and looked up other reviews and we were blown away by the quality and the reviews.
We purchased our 65" Sony TV and we have not been sorry one moment since! Yes it is bigger than we originally wanted, but we had the space for it. Yes, it was slightly higher than we originally planned to spend but the difference in price is negligible compared to the value of what we received. The picture quality, the color quality and the ease of use would have me recommending this to everyone.
We had 3 people we talked to at Best Buy. Each one agreed that this was one of the best they have and one of the best brands that they carry. Our last TV was over 15 years old. We hope this one last just as long or longer. Absolutely not sorry we bought it!!!!

Long story short, I have not been a Sony follower due to budget issue but I finally bite the bullet when there was a sale and been longing to get a quality tv for my movie enjoyment.
Must admit I was a bit sceptical when I read the review on how Sony product nowadays is different compared to the old days. Some other review praise the product but some other look down.
Well I finally decided to try out myself and boy, I thought to myself why I have not done this sooner. Now if you think this is a paid review I gotta say I wish that's true as I don't mind a free Sony stuff 🤣.
Video out of the box is just stunning, even with default settings. Everything looks clear and sharp, even when tried to watch youtube stream of old movie trailer which seems to be upscale with the bravia engine.
No comment on the audio as I pass them through to my receiver to be played from my trusty Dali Ikon speakers.
Is it a good buy? I reckon it is, but I would wait until there's a sale and stick to the mid tier instead of entry one such as the x80's

The first was a 65 inch for myself and this 55" for my mother in law (she has a smaller tv stand) and i must say, price, value, features. This has it all. Sure it's not the next up mini led version, but it's the top of the line full array local dimming. It may not be the brightest on the market at this price, nor the most dimming panels, but the software and processing on this is fantastic. The contrast is really good, a tiny bit of bloom on some screens, but better than a previous tv I had from another brand that on paper should have beat this. The colors are great. The android based os is much smother than 2 other brands i've worked with, but i do find myself sometimes using a streaming stick with this, but that's just sometimes my preference for i like the layout on the stick. This has all the same apps. My 65 inch also came with 5 free digital movies from sony bravia. I have look. I have not registered this tv yet, ran out of time, but i think this will also. Overall, great tv. Choice, and nearing e d of model year, look for the price to drop a d snag it.

detailedReviews 14: content: I purchased this TV to upgrade a previous Sony TV that is 8 years old and has over 30,000 hours on it and is still serving me well in another room. The features of HDMI 2.1, VRR, 120hz refresh rate, the high quality audio & FALD were the main reasons I purchased this TV. I compared it to another TV at a very similar price from a Korean brand that boasted better contrast with mini led but next to each other in a bright room which is where my TV is, the Sony was superior, which was to my surprise and to the credit of Sony product engineers.
The image quality is fantastic and it is easy to get colour accurate results with minimum effort. The XR processor which is new at this price point does a great job at handling audio and lower resolution content. HDR content is vivid and bright while not crushing the blacks much to maintain contrast.
The audio is fantastic. I never bothered with a soundbar or a surround sound system and with this TV a soundbar is really optional for most because the TV delivers impressive range and surround effects. The only downside to the audio coming from my previous Sony is night mode is missing that kept the range at a consistent lower volume. To mimic this I turned the volumes for Dolby to compressed and turned voice zoom to max for late night TV and then back to cinema for movies.
The TV has google TV OS and it is quick and simple. There are suggestions of what to watch and no annoying ads. It has most streaming apps and for Netflix and IMAX content there is a dedicated calibrated mode in picture settings for that content. Sony has done a good job of giving the user a clean simple experience.
The TV came with 2 remotes. One is a simple one aimed for streaming with shortcuts to Bravia Core and Netflix which is the one I use and the other is a full control with all the numbers and controls for using a set top box or the built in tuner.
In bright rooms the panel does well at handling reflections and is more impressive in low light than the competitions mini led side by side. For gaming and longevity I opted for this TV. I don't like disposable products and being Sony I expect this to still be a great TV in 8 years and I will upgrade again not because I need to because this TV is broken but because I want to.

Being a size of 55” watching programmes and films are very enjoyable and the colour good. I will point out that SD content found on some of the low budget TV channels is not particularly good but that appears to be the norm on modern large TV sets of today. This however was a bit better when using a connected Freeview PVR rather than the internal tuner. The internal speaker sound is adequate but superb when connected to a soundbar. There are two remote controls which basically perform the same function but the cut down one is just as good, and one can quickly get to services such as YouTube which is quite handy. There are four HDMI connectors, USB, and a headphone jack. I concluded that this TV fits the bill.

detailedReviews 16: content: I had the LG 75nano90 (2021 version) and decided to upgrade. I walked in and wasn’t too sure if I wanted one just yet, but this TV was on sale for $1999. And it felt like a good deal.
The picture quality is noticeably better than the LG, and the LG had great quality. I am no expert reviewer; but I do know some things about TV’s. This is not an OLED killer, but it is an outstanding Nano/Quantum style TV. Yes, you can detect some blooming, but far less than the LG with its 32 zone array. This has a 100 zone array. So it makes a great difference, but the magic doesn’t come for that. It comes from the “ Cognitive Processor XR”. It really helps bring out the colors, and the deep blacks, and crisp whites.
I hope my simple review helps someone. It’s worth it, if you aren’t looking to spend 5-10k on a proper OLED of this size. The sound quality is great and you can even use the speakers as a center channel with you use certain Sony audio equipment! However I have a full Yamaha/B&W/Monolith 5.1.2 Dolby Atmos system. So I don’t use the onboard audio.
It is a very balanced compromise of size and vale with outstanding picture quality for the money!

While we were keen to pick a different brand to hope for a longer lasting TV, we still found that the Sony TV's have a much better level of colour and brightness versus the competition. The TV itself is a big level up over our previous (65X95G). The colour and brightness were much better and we have found that the anti reflective coating is also much improved over previous. We have this as centre point of our lounge with our Kitchen directly behind. Previously the lights used to reflect and make it hard to see parts of the the tv - the new TV does not suffer from this problem at all! We also found that the soundbar has greatly improved with the new TV even though its from a different brand. Previously we had syncing issues or difficult to hear voices - now all gone with the new model - much more seamless.

So I bit the bullet and bought the 85 inch Sony and love it. Everytime I turn it on, it's just WOW! The colours are fantastic, the size...do yourself a favor and get the bigger tv. Imax, dolby vision, all the features are fantastic. After having it for 7 months, I am still in WOW mode. The sound is ok, but I only use it with a full surround system, so it doesn't matter to me. I know I only gave it 4 stars, and that's because I had to do 2 factory resets, but it was probably my own fault for farting around with settings too much. I also (read where other people had this problem) had a green screen, but found out it was coming from the wrong hdmi settings, when set properly, no more green screen. Anyway, if you have the means (and the room) for this tv, you won't regret it! This is no lightweight tv, definitely takes 2 people to set it up, and the build quality is very good.

detailedReviews 19: content: I had been researching TV's for sometime, didn't want a Samsung as they don't honour the warranty on their products plus their app store is rubbish.
I had my eye on this TV for sometime and message Sony asking if their app store had Jellyfin as I had converted my DVD's to MP4 and MKV and wanted to negate using a dedicated media player with Jellyfin installed.
It was confirmed so purchased, it didn't take long to set up, used e-arc from the TV to my Yamaha Amp then wired up the other elements, Bluray player, Virgin Media etc.
I then wired it up using a CAT8 cable to my router, installed Jellyfin and set it up to sync with my NAS, it's great having my own movies at my fingertips
The colours are awesome, sound it good however the remote is awful, not very responsive, clicking the plus symbol for the volume sometimes decreases it. Compared to the remote for my AMP the remote quality is pretty awful
When I visited my parents I tried to setup their Samsung TV to the next and unfortunately Jellyfin was not included in their app store

detailedReviews 20: content: I own multiple OLED's (LG C2 & C3) so I was skeptical about the performance of this LED X90L, but the price for the 85" panel and the reviews touting it enticed me. I decided to give it a go in my basement media room and see how it stacked against the OLED's I own.
The color accuracy of this panel IMO exceeds those of LG OLEDs. I know this might seem like a controversial statement, but you have to see it to understand it. Sony's image processing IMO is the best in the industry while watching movies and shows. Human skin and texture on this panel is much more lifelike and non saturated vs. OLEDs. Colors pop for sure, but they are much more natural in appearance and lifelike. I'm one of those types that have to tweak my OLED/LED extensively to get the color/contrast to my liking, but Dolby Vision Bright combined with the XR processing from Sony is as perfect an image you can get without spending 6k+
Brightness! 600+ nits for a Full Array LED is LEGIT. In bright environments this semi gloss panel works just fine, and has the brightness to match- but in dark basement environments is where this thing really shines. There are Mini LED panels that struggle to get to that mark with double or triple the dimming zones available to them.
Gaming wise this is a capable panel, but it does have a slightly higher input lag than OLEDs- but none of that should matter for casual gaming. Game mode exists now with VRRR and G-Sync compatibility up to 4k 120hz.
Bottom line, Sony took notice of HiSense and TCL creeping up on them last year, and juiced this X90L to exceed them at a very competitive price. This upper mid range panel touches areas of the high end range at an awesome price with a picture you just have to see to appreciate.

Streaming through WiFi and Ethernet has been stable. Picture quality is top notch but not the best. Controls are very simple and the Sony remote can also perform as a media remote for the PS5. The 120hz refresh rate also works very well but is only for one of the HDMI ports. For AV enthusiasts, the LG G3 or perhaps Sony’s higher models may likely be more preferred, but this certainly get a lot of bang for your buck.

So not only is your gaming going to be beautiful it's going to be so convenient and seamless. I've been enjoying Death Stranding 2 with my partner on this TV and the visuals just do not disappoint. You just have to see it for yourself honestly.
OLEDs are still way better and just fantastic to view but again, for it's price the quality just cannot be beat.

Everything I watch, be it streaming/Blu-ray/Freesat,the picture is beautiful. The sound for Freesat is great, but watching disc's or football, the background sound can overpower the actors/commentators. Back to the settings for this. This is by far the best TV I have ever bought. I now know why, Sony did not replace it in their range last year.

This mostly seems to happen if i switch from an input other than the tv itself, such as a ps5 connected via hdmi, to bravia core app that comes with the tv. It may be user error, but still seemed a little odd to me as nothing would unfreeze the screen and id have to unplug the tv in order to reset everything. EARC is a must and i never dont want it again after experiencing it. Audio delay is almost non existent once hou get things working together properly. The tv includes 5 free movies of your choice to own on the bravia core app, and they look great on this display. Ive had no issues getting components to work together. Ps5 to the tv, and earc port to the A/V receiver. The display looks amazing and gets incredibly bright. The built in speakers are some of the best ive heard in a tv and will work with the ps5 3d sound settings. I did opt to use the surround sound home theater though. If youve used a chromecast then youll be right at home with the user interface and its one of the better UI's that ive used on a smart TV. Also plays well with the smart home things with google home. I would highly reccomend this TV if you use your tv for multiple things such as a pc monitor, if you own a ps5 or even other consoles as well (the switch looks great with the tv's upscaling), and also movies obviously are great with all the features of hdr10 and dolby vision, imax experience etc. I would give it 4.5 stars if that was an option and 5 if i didnt experience that freezing issue a couple times.

detailedReviews 27: content: In early December 2023, two Geek Squad agents installed my new 65 inch Sony X90L TV. I've had the TV for a little more than a week and, so far, it is fantastic. It is situated in a fairly large very bright room yet still produces a great picture even on the brightest days. The picture quality is even more impressive during night time viewing. From my perspective, the picture is perfect right out of the box. TV programs, movies and sports, whether from cable or streamed, are all flawlessly processed and displayed by this TV.
(As a side note: I have Xfinity cable. Mainly for esthetic reasons, I wanted to avoid having any cable or streaming set-top box, hoping to use a native app on Sony to stream Xfinity. I searched both Sony and Xfinity websites as well as various online articles and conversations. These presented contradictory claims regarding the availability of the Xfinity app for download on this Google TV. For anyone who may have this same question, I can say that it is NOT available. I had to retain the set-top box.)
The Geek Squad techs were knowledgeable and courteous, and they did a very professional job mounting and setting up the TV, connecting it to the HT devices, and hauling away the old TV for recycling.
Unfortunately, I failed to have them demonstrate fully how to use the interconnected devices and their remotes.
After they left, I encountered the consequences of this failure, when I couldn't access the AVR setup menu, and some other AVR functions.
Since this appeared to be a connection or setup issue, I contacted BB the next day and after a very long trip through the chat options, I was able to speak to a living person. The agent offered various unworkable suggestions, before finally agreeing to send the Geek Squad to the house the following week to resolve the issue.
Over the following few days, I continued trying to access the AVR settings. I ultimately found a partial solution from a Google search. I was able to reach and use the AVR setup menues, while other functions that I used to access from the AVR remote before the new TV was installed were no longer available. After attempting various methods to correct this issue, I concluded that these options were probably no longer available because the devices were now connected directly to the TV (as I wanted) and not through the 13 year old HD AVR, as they had been previously.
I decided that nothing more could or needed to be done, and made several failed attempts to cancel the scheduled service call. Therefore, on the morning of the scheduled appointment, the service tech telephoned to say that he would arrive in 30 minutes or so. I told him that I thought I had resolved the main issues, and that I didn't want to waste his time by having him come to the house. I apologized for any inconvenience that I may have caused, and canceled the appointment. He was very understanding, saying that if I needed help in the future, I could always make a new appointment.
That same day I realized that I could not operate the radio from the AVR remote. I rescheduled a trouble shooting in-home service, which took place today. All issues, mostly due to my ignorance of how to work through some new settings, were resolved.
I highly recommend the Sony X90L, and the excellent work done by Best Buy's Geek Squad.

I did Google the rtings calibration settings for this tv and they were spot on.
Now for sports...We watch a lot of football and this thing is absolutely amazing watching the games. The colors and motion handling blew my Hisense tv's and TCL tv's out of the water. I know I am hyping this TV quite a bit but I have learned from reading and watching reviews and on hand experience that a brand like Sony...Samsung or LG is the way to go when purchasing a tv for quality and reliability.
Don't be put off by this TV being LCD full array backlighting because in my opinion its equal to the mini led tv's that are priced higher and the picture is no better. Last thing I will say is get an extended warranty. I didn't get an extended warranty on my TCL and when it went black screen a little after a year TCL told me since it was out of warranty I was out of luck. Really stand behind their tv's!!! Hd free to air is very good, standard definition is OK.
4k F1 and Afl is stunning. Black levels are good but there is some blooming in busy pictures. Gets very bright in Hdr which makes the picture pop.
Overall a very good tv with a superb picture and using the Android operating system everything just works.

The picture quality despite it being a full-array LED is stunning, and a night and day upgrade from a non-HDR Vizio LCD that was almost 10 years old. This TV is located in a moderately sunny location, so there is ample ambient and natural light, and this thing gets plenty bright without even having to max out the brightness. Which really aides in minimizing light reflection.
Once I had it calibrated to my liking from a variety of tech sites, I went right into testing all sorts of content to put it through its paces. Dolby Vision and HDR 4K content look absolutely stunning. I haven't encountered much of anything that this TV struggles to make look amazing; including video games.
While this may not be the best TV money can buy, it is the best all around picture quality you can purchase at this price point compared to Hisense U8K or TCL QM8. Much of this due to Sony's image processing engine, which stands second to none.
I can't speak to the sound quality as I use a soundbar. The Google OS is suitable and responsive, but I use an Apple TV 4K steaming box which in my opinion compliments the TV's picture quality even more.
The only regret I have is that I didn't get a 75" size, but for the discount I got on this open-box item, I can't complain.

The picture on the TV is amazing, specifically when watching a 4K HDR source.
The twin Freesat tuners, and the fact I've attached a 2TB hard drive to the USB port of the TV, is leading me to decide if I should now give up SKY TV.
The Android Google operating system works well and enables me to have all my apps and streaming services in one place.
But, as is the case for almost all of the new thin panel TVs, sound from the TV speakers is muddy and only good as a backup sound source.
The TV sound can be ultra impressive with a REALLY GOOD Soundbar or a good sound system.
The Richer Sounds guys will be able to ensure you pick the best sound system for your particular application.
For me, a retired Electronic Design Engineer, I bought a Sony HT-SF200 2.1ch soundbar, which in itself has poor sound, BUT the Electronic system and its amplifiers are perfect for modification. I fitted outputs to the soundbar to connect external speakers instead of its tiny internal speakers. Now the sound from my setup with good L + R + SWoofer speakers is AMAZING.
For anyone considering purchasing a new TV, my advice is to talk to the guys at Richer Sounds and ENSURE you purchase both your new TV and a GOOD sound system together. You won't be sorry.

Having done much research, I had a short list of highly rated target TV's. As a YouTube TV subscriber, very good upscaling for channels delivered by their networks in 720p, e.g. ESPN, Fox, ABC is required. Was I ever stoked to see a great price for an open box return "excellent" condition 65" Samsung S90C OLED. This TV is supposed to be fantastic by all accounts. After being unable to obtain even acceptable picture quality from 1080 sources, I returned the S90C the next day and bought the highly rated 55” LG C3 OLED. After 2 weeks use with the LG, much as I wanted to love it, picture quality was just mediocre, and not worth even the sale price paid. Given Sony has the best reputation for low-quality content smoothing and upscaling, I decided to take a flyer on the lower-rated in comparison 55" Bravia X90L full-array LED. It was on sale and hundreds cheaper than the LG C3 and Samsung S90C. The X90L has Sony's latest processor, "Cognitive Processor XR." To my amazement, the Sony's picture quality was significantly better than both high-end Samsung and LG TV's. Upscaling of YTTV channels in 720p is fantastic. All content, particularly sports, looks amazingly good. SDR/HDR brightness and color are superb. Reflection in my dimly lit setting is a non-factor, as is blooming. The Google TV interface and provided remote are both easily the best of the 3 TVs evaluated. Take a chance on the X90L. It's a great, relatively inexpensive TV. You won't be disappointed!

Specifically, what I really like about this TV is its integration with various apps, such as YouTubeTV, YouTube, AcornTV, and BritBox. In particular, the ability to fast-forward through commercials within YouTubeTV is far superior to the same operation on an AppleTV box.
As you might expect, each app handles the individual operations slightly different, but in general, the operation is very intuitive.
Going back to one remote is also very convenient and provides more options than the AppleTV remote did.
Size is great. My son commented on how much clearer the box displays were during the SuperBowl.
The screen saver collection is much better than what we had on our AppleTV, though I must admit that it is a bit annoying that it keeps displaying the temperature in Myrtle Beach instead of our local temperature. The time is correct, but the temperature is wrong. This is a bug in ChromeCast, though I haven't been able to correct it. I suspect that it is related to using the same account and it is possible that most users will not experience the same problem.
Finally, appreciated the simple integration with the Sony SoundBar. Plug in two cables and your done.

detailedReviews 38: content: I’d like to give the unit 3 ½ stars but this is not possible, so have dropped it back to three stars. I bought this unit in the Black Friday sales at a good price, so thanks JB.
Firstly, both my wife and I are in our late seventies. My wife has very little tech savvy but can handle simple tasks, e.g. make a smart phone call, reply to a text, or change the channel. She gets very easily confused with technology. I’m sure there are many, many elderly people in the same situation.
I was first attracted to the Sony XR55X90L through the on-line reviews, and particularly the picture quality. And I must say it is really very good – sharp picture, clear and bright colours, good blacks and whites. We are viewing straight on in a high light situation and the set performs exceptionally well. I guess this is something to do with the adaptive technology built into the set. Our previous Samsung was a poor performer to the extent we had got quotes for blinds to be installed in the viewing room to cut down on reflections. With the Sony this is not necessary and viewing straight ahead in the middle of summer light it is a great performer!
Now to the negatives. The on-line reviews mentioned this and it has caused a bit of a problem. Viewing the screen at an angle does definitely degrade the picture, worse than in other sets I have (Samsung and Panasonic). From 3 to 6 metres away from the screen and at an angle of 30 to 60o colours appear washed out and content not as crisp or sharp. Our domestic circumstances are that I have to spend a bit of time looking at an angle and it has been a bit of a disappointment. Still, it is bearable.
Secondly, there is an overemphasis in blues and particularly greens. Even content from the UK and Ireland (notorious for their bright greens) was over the top. I eventually dug round in the picture adjustments and knocked the green etc back quite a bit so it now approached the typical Australian colourscape. Ok I fixed it but it was a bit of a nuisance. Maybe factory settings could be on the conservative side and if people (including retailers!!) wanted screaming colours they could then adjust them.
But the biggest negative was the remote control! As mentioned some of us are technically challenged, and a remote control with on/off, channel numbers, simple subtitles on/off button (not three or four menu levels) and an apps button is ideal. Now I spent lots of hours reviewing TV sets and landed on many Sony sites. I could not get a clear statement on what was the format of the remote control - numbers for channels or arrows to select channels on screen, simple subtitle button etc. I even rang Sony sales support and after some transfers got the dubious answer “No I don’t think it has Channel Numbers” Hmm. I was then talking to the salesman at JB who immediately understood what I meant and knew exactly the problem. He produced a third party remote which did everything I wanted so purchased that. The Sony remote is mouldering in a drawer somewhere.
And finally, after purchasing, the Google home screen. I’m in the Google ecosystem so am aware of its offerings. But for a non-tech savvy person the home screen is a nightmare. “I just want to watch Channel 7 like last night”. So off to Sony support “Why is the Home screen always displayed when I turn on the TV” Answers didn’t seem to apply to my model!! Checking “applicable products and categories” showed my model could not be adjusted. Some more digging on Google and I found a UK blog that gave instructions to set the system to “last input used”. My set wasn’t exactly the same but got to the setting. It took a couple of times for the setting to stick but it now does and the wife is really happy. But why, why, why, does Sony make it so difficult to customise the set.
Would I buy the XR55X90L again? Certainly for the picture and if the other issues weren’t important. But I will approach other Sony products with a degree of caution and particularly the support and customisation.

Set up was easy, though it will take time to add all the various Bluetooth and IoT this will connect to. I'm not complaining. Switching between modes and the multiple settings are easy to find in a quick menu, but you can also edit these settings futher if you wish in the deep settings menu.
At under $1000 open box, it is a monster buy!

Compulsory terms agreements. Perks that only work on Bravia equipment… no PiP (picture in picture) support over any input from any input. Their setup process shows it’s possible, they’ve just chosen to cripple that feature or laze out and not implement it.
The screen is pretty but it does have vignetting and splotchy coverage for single color bright images. Color depth and accuracy seem pretty good but I’m not a professional so I don’t have the tools to test it.
I’d say the TV is worth 700 or 800, not 1000 to 1200. If you can catch it on a sale or through a discount you’re likely to be happy with it if you’re not too picky.
If you’re adding a soundbar though, the only two that fit in the HT-A series are the HT-A9 and the HT-A3000. It seems like a gross oversight but maybe they assume everyone is hanging it on a wall. The issue is the feet so if you’re wall mounting the TV the feet are no longer an issue. The in TV sound isn’t the worst I’ve heard but it’s boomy and sounds like it’s in a box. Something also buzzes at listening levels over 35.
Support has been less than impressive from Sony as well.
I really wanted to be impressed and delighted with this TV but it falls short on so many levels because of sloppy interfaces and features that could be there that simply aren’t.

I like the menus and control it gives you over the way the TV handles inputs. For example, my prior Hiscense 4k TV would always set the PC input to game mode, when it's primary use is a HTPC which truly hurt the experience. This TV really allows the configuration I want for video. It has to be one of the best TVs on the market because it really helps the picture by the way it processes. For example, it really does an excellent job with YouTube which is highly compressed.
The picture looks great. And while it is not Mini-LCD, it really looks like it is. The picture is amazing.
CONS: I really want to give this 5 stars, but to be honest, I am sitting here on day 3 with the TV debating returning it. The problem is the audio handling.
I got the Sony SRS-NS7 neckband speaker and was excited for the enhanced capabilities the Bravio provides. I am also using the Sony MX1000M3 Bluetooth headphones because I live in an apartment with a neighbor who complains if I drop a pen. LOL I have a Polk soundbar as well.
The Bravio will be playing through the headphones or neck speaker audio device and then go crazy when the soundbar shuts down from inactivity changing the HTPC display setup and leaving me without sound. I have to reselect the audio source on the TV settings. Then, after a few minutes it turns on the soundbar and freaks out again. I have the config to prioritize Sony audio sources but still the audio output changes randomly. On occasion I am sitting there with headphones on with music playing and a moment later my soundbar is screaming at high volumes. I try to handle my rude neighbors complaints and Sony wants me evicted. In addition, the 3d sound on the neckband will not work if the soundbar is at all connected.. even when the soundbar is not powered on. To get the full capability of the SRS-NS7 the HDMI *CANNOT* be connected to the soundbar.
I guess I will have to buy an expensive Sony soundbar to try to solve the problem. For now, I just have to disconnect my soundbar and everything is fine. It is just painful as no TV speakers sound good to me. Sony should not force you to have all Sony devices use the TV but that seems to be the case.
I am sure some of this has to do with the fact I do not use the TV in smart mode, but I have never had a TV that 6 times an hour loses its mind and changes everything while you are trying to watch a movie or listen to music. I guess I have to invest more in Sony or return the TV. That is very frustrating. I really wanted to love this TV.

I really only have 1 complaint about the television. There are 4 HDMI ports, however only 2 of them are HDMI 2.1. That means that VRR/ALLM only function on HDMI 3 and 4. That wouldn't be such an issue if HDMI 3 wasn't also the Arc/eArc port. This isn't a huge issue for me because I have an HDMI 2.1 Onkyo A/V receiver that all my equipment runs through so I am able to make the 2 HDMI 2.1 ports work with no issue. However, if you were to run a soundbar out of HDMI 3 for Arc/eArc, you would only be left with HDMI 4 for any devices that could utilize VRR and ALLM (so if you had a PS5 and an XBox S/X, for example, you could only run one of them with those features). I understand many TVs have this issue - LG is about the only brand I for sure know of that gives you 4 full HDMI 2.1 ports - but this is Sony and I would hold them to a higher standard than that. In any case, this doesn't affect me, but it might affect you so be aware of this limitation.
Outside of that one design flaw, this TV is about as perfect as they come. No complaints, 5 stars!

Thing that has most impressed me so far is quality of oldish sitcoms. Example: poor quality broadcast of 3rd Rock from the Sun through directv stream on a $1k 5 year old Samsung looked terrible, but fantastic on x90l. Sharper and no weird lag or stutter type effects. That processing is impressive.
Also the color is excellent, always very natural, just seems spot on accurate and pleasing in every case. Reminds me of how Fujifilm digital camera color used to look so much better than other brands (maybe it still does?). Such a joy to watch.
Bought bias lighting but haven’t hooked it up and haven’t noticed any blooming yet.
Wide angled view noticeably starts washing out, but not bad for casual viewing and acceptable for me at moderate viewing angles.
Also impressed at reflection handling and performance in bright room. None of the cons that I’ve read about ended up being an issue so far.
ATSC broadcasts look great, is a nice bonus feature for me.
I watch a lot of premier league football and am kind of annoyed with blur of movement. I think it is with panning shots mostly, but gather from reading that it is not an issue unique to this tv model and something one just gets used to. Still need to research that more.
If you are like me, coming from an older tv, interested in sports, movies, and old sitcoms, this tv is amazing. Way better than what I had and blows away other tvs in the same price range of people I know.

It wasn't the cheapest by any means but the image quality and features made it a good choice... 2 small issues I came across while setting it up, 1 for some reason it refused to connect to our wifi, it picked it up ok but log in failed repeatedly, that could be related to the number of devices already connected to the modem and was solved by simply connecting it with a cable (better for streaming anyway) and the second is the tiny remote that comes with the set... sure it works fine and all the usual functions can be accessed through various pop up menus but it makes simple things like fast forwarding or rewinding parts of a show an overly complicated process. We purchased an aftermarket remote for Sony TV's and problem solved.
Overall though it's a great set and we are very happy with it.

The pros:
This tv gets really bright, way brighter than our X900F, and the processing is absolutely stunningly clear, and the picture quality as a whole is on par with much higher priced models. The TVs audio feel immersive and full, however; we prefer sound bars and sound systems with any tv.
The cons:
The Google UI is fast yet very busy with the apps. It just seems really busy and makes u feel lost. Also, the tv with all its brightness can produce some blooming effects. The blooming can be mitigated with proper picture adjustments.
Overall, the Sony X90L is an excellent full array led that exceeds expectations and can compete with some of the best mini led TVs on the market. Its brightness has improved dramatically, to add to Sonys top notch processing, and gives the viewer 2023 high end oled vibes. When compared to our LG G3 I was really impressed.
I highly recommend this tv to anyone who wants a future proof tv at an affordable price, backed behind Sony branding.

As soon as the tv was turned on, a nice intro popped up. The screen picture was an eye opener at home compared to the stores and had to say “wow” on startup.
This is a tv upgrade from the 2008, KDL46” XBR Full HD model and it still works but for the convenience of features and massive screen size and quality of this product, yep, sticking with Sony TVs and bought this 85” tv.
As expected the sound was ok (has a graphic equaliser) but you really need to buy a sound system to REALLY enjoy the tv due to the small speakers in the frame. So as expected I went out and bought a Sony soundbar and what a difference that made for a deeper quality but was not satisfied, the next day bought a Sony subwoofer.
The tv is complete, just like being in a cinema now on the big screen and coupled with Sony sound. Easy to navigate menus via the built in Google system and Chromecast. AppleTV is available with Netflix etc.
When you buy the tv, prepare to buy the sound system also as it makes it much more pleasurable for a home cinema experience and I found out the tv remote turns on and off the tv and sound system (both being Sony), so no need for two remotes for power.
Enjoy your tv, I know I am.

Secondly, as a full array LED rather than mini-LED or OLED TV, you're going to see some blooming with titles. I chose to trade off some blooming in exchange for better shadow detail and higher brightness peaks in my bright room.
Should I spend more? If you have money to burn, buy the largest Sony A95L QD-OLED you can fit in the room for many thousands more. I will be picking one up for a much darker basement in future. Otherwise, no.

I have a new (December 2023) 85" XR 85X90L that I purchased from Best Buy and notice what appears to be cleaning lines/smears that I cannot remove or clean, possibly behind the outer screen surface, see attached photos. I only notice the marks when the screen is black (or TV is off) in a dark room, and a light is reflecting off a glass patio door opposite the TV. I spoke with Best Buy and they replaced the TV with the same model, but I still noticed the marks; original purchase Black Friday November 2023, replacement December 27. I also contacted Sony and the agent referred me to an authorized servicer, but they could not diagnose the issue due to time of day the lines would appear (before sunrise or after sunset).
Can someone explain the "smear marks" (see attached photos). Possibly the anti-reflection/glare coating feature?
Regardless the image looks great and does not appear to be compromised, but I want to make sure. Is this an issue that Sony should investigate and issue a recall or a corrective action plan.

I came from a 2017 55 in TCL. It began to dim and washed out, we had a good run. Since it is now Black Friday, time to check the sales.
I went into the store and narrowed it between this and the A80L Mini Led. The A80L is gorgeous but even on sale would break my budget adding a protection plan.
The XR90L Led hit all the marks for me. Gaming, good black with minimal blooming, 65 inch, looks amazing and most of all affordable with the protection plan.
1500 out the door with a 5 year protection plan. The box is huge so you need a truck or van, a 55 boxed would fit in my accord. This thing is heavy, so you best 2 man this.
It took a while to tinker with the tv settings for color and brightness, hitting the right marks for TV watching vs gaming. I use a sound system but the audio is ok shouild you need it. The remote feels sleek and operating system is great, no issues, got my updates and it works smooth.
I highly recommend this tv, even if you go 55 inch but I went 65 to view further from my couch, no need to bring up a chair on a 55 inch, plus its less eye strain for me laying down watching football. Gaming is BEAUTIFUL, and this is an LED!
I didn’t break the bank and got 24-month financing on my BB card. I will eventually get an Mini LED or OLED down the road, maybe one for the bedroom next year, but for now this thing was a no brainer Don’t hesitate, if you are in the market, don’t think about it, run don’t walk and grab this thing. Pictures do not to this TV any justice, so I would not doubt this will be out of stock as the word gets out.

The picture I included in my review is of the TV mounted in the first room I had it in. The room it lives in now has bright daylight filling it and recessed lighting in a vaulted ceiling at night. The X90L delivers the best brightness that one with these specs can deliver in both lighting conditions. Yes you will see elevated blacks in letter box or cinema black bars and dark areas. But those are a small price to pay to have the bright levels and shadow details preserved that i mentioned earlier. I love the google OS that comes with the tv. Easy to navigate and setup to your preferences. Build quality is as expected from Sony, solid. It’s not a flagship, but you dont feel like you got a cheap TV. Sony did a great job of building the TV to fit the budget but not feel like any corners were cut. For under $1000 for a 65” during black friday, this is literally a best buy at Best Buy.

So many different picture modes depending on which hdmi and device you’re using, you’ll get certain presets if you’re using streaming services, when you’re in game mode, using a firestick etc. speaking of game mode there are so many features in game mode to help with getting everything precisely how you want it (VRR, Blacklight, reticle on/off, etc.) I will be looking into the new lineup Sony just rolled out thanks to this tv.

I am coming off the Sony X900H 65-inch panel I purchased from BestBuy back in 2021. The image of the X90L is head and shoulders above the X900. The X90L has a slimmer body than the 900H and it is thinner. It has a maximum of *85 dimming zones compared to the 900H which has 30 zones according to the RTings.com review (It might be thinner than the 900H but it is definitely heavier,) The image does not require a lot of adjustment either in my opinion. It is so life-like, you could almost sunbathe in most sunlight scenes. The only two things I dislike about it is the Sony Logo, it's off to the left. It should be centered. My other complaint is the small remote with the hotkeys and numeral keypad removed. You have to fish through sub-menus to get through basic functions which is unnecessary. I upgraded remotes, I bought the metal remotes with backlit numeral keys with the convenience of the hotkeys. The clicky haptics on the metal remote is satisfying to use.

detailedReviews 73: content: We first bought the LG QNED 85 and watched it for a little while but were not sure we liked it, so we went ahead and bought the Sony XR X90L also and compared the two side by side for a week or two since they were the exact same price at the time. After watching for a couple weeks and comparing the both TV's, we found the LG sound was better on voice setting than the Sony on its voice setting. We found the picture was slightly more clear with the LG than the Sony probably due to its more advanced mini LED tech). The legs for the LG were not as stable as the Sony legs. The operation/navigation of the LG seemed better than the Sony. But the Sony color was just more bright, rich and robust. (Even with adjusting and experimenting with the settings quite a lot on both TV's) This is what was the deciding factor for us. However neither TV was in any way significantly better or worse than the other. They were minor differences and others may decide differently.
And a special thanks to the salesman at the store who took a lot of time with us on multiple trips to the store for lots of Q&A to narrow it down to these two TV's and letting us return the one we did not want without cost to us.

detailedReviews 74: content: After reading many reviews we decided on the X90L. The TV we were replacing was also a Sony which we had bought in 2016 with a Sony 5yr guarantee. We had issues with this TV after 2 years. We contacted Sony and they replaced it as it wasn't repairable. So we knew that the Sony guarantee was worth having.
We bought the X90L online direct from Sony as they were offering the 5yr guarantee free and the TV was the same price as all other retailers. Fast delivery and good communication.
The picture on the X90L is fabulous. It's very sharp and the black and dark colours are very intense. The new processor in this TV makes a huge difference. The speakers are very good but we use a Sony soundbar with a sub woofer speaker which makes everything sound fantastic. It was easy to set up, as would be expected with TV's today.
When I registered for the 5yr guarantee, it wasn't so easy. Apparently they require an invoice and as I purchased direct from Sony you would expect that they would email one to me, but they didn't. I had to go chasing round to obtain the invoice for the guarantee. This process could be improved when buying direct from Sony. Eventually once I obtained the invoice and emailed it to them, everything was done quickly.
All in all, I would recommend this TV. You will not be disappointed.

But, I have one major and one minor issue with this TV.
The major issue is that several free to air TV channels are affected by macro-blocking every 30 seconds to a minute. Usually, part of the picture will become blocky and pixelated for a fraction of a second before it flips back to perfectly clear. It is extremely annoying! My previous TV, also a Sony, is absolutely fine and the same channels are not affected. Streaming and Blu-Ray on my X90L are not affected at all.
I thought a new TV aerial might fix the problem but unfortunately it hasn’t. I have line of sight to the transmitter and the TV aerial installer says I have good signal strength. I even tried a TV signal booster but it made no difference. Neither has playing with the Picture settings menu.
The second issue is only minor and perhaps I might get used to it but I miss the numbers on the remote. Navigating through the menu when I know what channel I want is a bit tedious.

On the other side night watching also doesn't stress your eyes. Some leading mini LED tvs are failing here. Overall, a Full array TV a 2-3 year old technology that can easily beat the mini LED. All sorts of ports available that you need for Hubs, Console, Gaming, Movie, sound systems.
A little heavier and not as slim as some of the mini LEDs but it's not a deal breaker.

It still worked great but I gave it to my dad and was hoping for a much improved experience but I kinda hate this tv. When it works as expected, it's a pretty good tv overall (i.e., picture and sound) and a step up from the old tv because I get the smart tv features.
I have used a high quality roof antenna for my broadcast channels for years. With this tv, I actually get more channels than with the old tv but it routinely decides to take excessively long to pull in 4.1 (NBC) when I select that channel. I end up missing parts of my program because of this. (As an avid Jeopardy watcher, this is unforgivable!) Today, I can't get it in at all. Every time it does either of the above, it WILL pull in 4.2, 4.3, and 4.4 right away so there's no rhyme or reason to it. This issue also happens with 7.1 sometimes too. Those are the 2 main channels I watch on broadcast tv so maybe it occurs with other channels. The 2007 tv never did this. And to be certain, the old tv up in my bedroom will pull these channels in instantly when this is occurring on the new Bravia. The root cause is this tv.
When I'm streaming (usually Apple+ or Amazon Prime), if I pause a program to get something to eat or whatever, I better unpause it before the screensaver kicks in or I CANNOT get the streaming service to work again without doing a force close of the application. I have tried a dozen other workarounds but a force close is the only thing that works. It's infuriating.
I am also extremely resentful that all these smart tv companies refuse to provide fully functional remotes. How much more does it cost to put numbers on the remote so I can quickly choose the channels I want? They don't even provide a Last Channel button to enable you to toggle back and forth between 2 channels when a commercial comes on. BTW, the voice input proved to be useless as an alternative.
I also think that the navigation to find what you need in the "settings" type of features or personalization is unnecessarily complex. There's a button with a wrench, a menu button, a home button, a settings button, and an input button. I have to dig through each to find what I'm looking for because I can't remember where they're stored, such as the force close option. It's just not as intuitive as I'm used to with previous tvs.
I don't know who is responsible for the streaming interfaces but those leave a lot to be desired too. E.g., the Apple+ app doesn't allow you to find your saved programs (the Library only shows purchased shows and movies) and there isn't a border around the program/movie you have selected so it's hard to tell if you're on the right spot before you hit enter (the program icon is slightly larger when selected but not enough to really pop out.) Amazon Prime live tv doesn't use the same Channel Guide button that is used for broadcast tv., instead you have to hit the Back button to see the list of Prime live channels and if you forget that you can't use the Channel Guide button for this and you select it, it takes you out of Prime and starts displaying the broadcast programs. It's really stupid. You also can't save your favorite Prime live tv channels and there's like 300 of them so you just hope that what you want is towards the top of the list because otherwise, you have to scroll and scroll to find what you are looking for. The search feature doesn't pull back live programming either so forget about leveraging that to help.
I thought I was going to have to give up my awesome DVD collection because there is not a DVD input on this tv (another stupid decision by these tv companies) and the Best Buy salesperson said as much to me, but upon researching it, I found a "Replacement for Sony TV Audio Video AV Adapter Cable, 3 RCA to 3.5mm AV Input Adapter" on Amazon that enables me to watch DVDs. It's about $5.
With all these issues, I would not recommend this tv but I don't know if the decrease in quality is a widespread issue or unique to this tv so I'm not sure if there are better tvs out there.

detailedReviews 83: content: As replacement for an older, highly regarded FALD model (950H), things started well enough, until I noticed what I can only described as petroleum effect visible through the entire panel during daylight hours, it's as if the polarising filter has biodegraded within the panel's layers, displaying the aforementioned effect during sunny days, and at night, the also visible as non uniformity when showing images at night, it's marginally more forgivable in these circumstance as it's really only noticable with solid colours, basically looks like Dirty Screen Effect. Utterly unacceptable in a TV of any price, much less a flagship model.
Apart from this, the Bravia processor does a great job as it always does with content scaling, colour accuracy out of the box is great, if you use a Custom image setting and turn the light sensor off, the set uses specific profiles for Netflix, Disney+ etc, so you should have a good experience without too much tweaking, just avoid vivid settings etc.
Sound is appalling, I know for a fact that the 950H sounded so much better within the same rear case configuration of two downward firing drivers and two side tweeters so I don't know what they've done, it's a if Sony decided that they made the older models sound too good and deliberately removed all that was left of the bass, just awful, my iPad literally has fuller sound.
Interface is standard Android fare, love it or hate it. The enforced Youview install can be disabled but never permanently removed, when active it slows the whole UI down, that has to be a licensing agreement as it negatively impacts the TV experience even when you don't use, yet Sony has made it impossible to completely remove.
Had the panel issues not been a thing I would give the image quality a 4 as it is a reasonable if not stunning incremental improvement over it's predecessors, or at least it would be if it didn't look like it was melting.
So, a sad end to the formerly applauded FALD lineup, and it wasn't updated for 2025 either. Here's hoping the Mini LED 7/8/9 series that appears to be replacing this tech doesn't have similar issues.

detailedReviews 84: content: Bought a month ago to replace a much older and noticeably smaller Sony tv that wasn't suited to the space. There are a few things we find frustrating with this new model that could be easily fixed by Sony and would improve the experience, at least for us.
Changing channel - previously we would just press the appropriate number button/s on the remote and you'd be watching your channel of choice. Now though, those number buttons have been removed from the remote altogether for some reason, despite being the ones we (and I imagine most people) use more than any others. Previously, changing to channel 1 required a single button press, now it requires 5. How did that seem like a good idea? The result is that we use the old remote we still have mostly.
And one other annoyance, the channel guide does not seem to scroll from the end back to the start. When I scroll down and get to the highest channel number, the only way of getting back to the start (the lowest channel number) is to scroll all the way back up through every other channel. The previous TV just scrolled around in an endless loop, much quicker and easier to use. If there is a setting to enable that functionality, its well hidden.
Other than those two frustrations though, the TV serves our needs well. The picture quality is good and the smart TV options work well. For us, sound gets sent out to our soundbar and surround speakers, so I can't really comment on the TV's built in speakers.
A couple of easy fixes would make this good TV even better for us.

I've had to return a TV last week and they made me unpack it and set it up on the store floor then humiliated me in front of customers at Brentwood while they questioned me over not being satisfied with the picture on a Tv I bought the day before. At Bridgeton they hid defects in appliances they reboxed and dumped them on me at home, an elderly person forced to return a washer and dryer? They let me down an incredible amount and I gave them the chances because I worked for them and had pride in that fact ...once. The service is just horrible today and the X90l Sony is just one thing more I have to return again because of incompetent people who apparently don't care. I'm over 70 years old and this is how they treated me so if you're my age, I'd think real hard before pulling any triggers an a purchase there Sony or otherwise. I thought Sony was a better quality product and found out differently, don't suffer my mistake

Luckily I was within the 14 days and returned/exchanged it for another TV, same exact model. On day 50, the replacement TV did the SAME EXACT THING! BestBuy recommended the GeekSquad assess it, claiming it was a software update incompatibility issue. On a whim- I factory reset the tv, and it functioned normally for the time being. After reading reviews (thanks everyone), I'm convinced it will occur again and I don't feel like factory resetting my TV every few weeks and having to repeatedly reprogram the apps and tune the surround sound. Luckily I am a TotalTech member, and BestBuy has been good to me. Also, I always purchase the extended warranties with items like this... just because. BestBuy has been helpful and honored all extended warranties, Thank You BestBuy and GeekSquad crew.

I have had 12 or more Sony TV's in the past, still have 5 of them, never had an issue before now, so have never had to deal with customer support or try and get a problem resolved.
Bought the 85" Sony TV, unpackaged it and everything looked okay, turned it on and the screen was damaged. I have a 75" Sony at the moment, so know how delicate TV's this size can be, was increadibly careful removing the packaging and setting it up.
Reported to customer support, but the box was not significantly damaged, they provided a blurred picture where you could barely see that there even was a box, as proof that it was not damaged in transit ... but nonethless it was damaged and not by me.
After going around in circles and banging my head against a brick wall for three weeks I have got nowhere. Sony refuse to sort the issue or suggest any way forward. I am left with an 85" piece of junk that has not worked for a second since bought, a complete waste of money and now something that I am going to have to pay to dispose of.
It is not until you have issues like this that you realise how bad a company, that over the years you have become invested in, actually is.

Even tho it uses Google TV, Chrome or other Google apps are not supported. Can't even sideload Chrome! Many top android apps are not supported.
Getting to almost anything took multiple (5-6+) clicks on the remote even channel changes. The TV I want to replace takes an average of 2-3 clicks for most everything. Sony boasts voice & alexa support yet doesn't publish a list of those commands. From research there aren't too many & some are lengthy.
The picture quality is fantastic. But the user experience is absolutely horrible. Numerous times I got frustrated just to get to something I wanted to watch. It also pops up messages (everything's an ad) making the experience worse. I even got constant messages that it would add more Netflix suggestions as I'm using Netflix often. Yet I don't use Netflix at all!
RETURNED the TV back to the store 3 days later. I was at the point I would have thrown the remote at the TV screen if I had it any longer.

Having had a Panny Plasma for over 12 years, and waiting for LED to get to an advanced tech state, I honestly thought that time would have come by now, especially with a Sony. Boy was I wrong.
My biggest gripes are with the blooming and corner shadowing. Seriously, both are major negatives against this TV. To the point that I actually feel embarrassed to "show it off" to friends and family, as they are quick to question why I have grey corners when viewing very light, or white, images. According to research, these are known, and apparently, acceptable, problems with LED tech.
I was told to avoid OLED by the sales rep as it was not suitable for my home environment, which I agreed with him, but I do wonder now, whether I should have gone OLED.
Despite seeing this TV in the shop first, I would strongly suggest looking thoroughly before purchasing and making sure you are happy with the shortfalls of the technology before blowing £1000+

Have called Sony CS and after their “review” of watching 10 second videos they claim that the issue is my 400 mbps internet and that I need to run a ethernet cord to make it work properly. I did have a Roku Stick connected and ran the same apps with no freezing issues on the Roku, more likely a WiFi chip issue with Sony but they refuse to provide service on the TV because it is “not necessary” according to their IT review department that looks at videos you need to send it. Read Sony reviews, CS is the worst and even if items are under warranty they blame customers for faulty equipment.

It's still worth buying due to their audio output as it is the only streaming app that can do DTS, audio and stream at higher quality of having said that, if you don't have a sound system it wouldn't make a huge difference, but the picture is pretty close to a mini LED TV from TCL yet offers more reliability and the Sony's history of products that can be a bit of hidden mess, but this is a 🎯. Especially when it's price is very competitive with the competition. But if you were to go OLED again that really depends on your budget. But as an entry level, Sony is definitely impressive. They're OS could use an update as it's still on Android 10, but the processing that you utilised with Sony's XR processor is one of the biggest selling points. Colour production is also very good and the quality of the plastics is actually very very high including the razor legs which are stainless steel which is very rare today. And it also has a gap for a central speaker from Sony so you can put in a a sound bar without having to sacrifice space and lifting your TV or having to wall mount it. Another thing that Sony has done is they have implemented the sound bar speaker with television speaker to act as a surround speaker to enhance the sound. But if you have a full sound system, I don't think you need it. It only works with Sony.
* Be wary of the Sony Bravia app. As I mentioned, it tends to log you out but you do get a couple of years depending on the model and credits to utilise the streaming app. But it does log you out and that has been a problem since I bought it and I feel like that's a bit of a downside and I'm disappointed with that considering how much money you spent for the television

Less than impressive. We have three other Panasonic smart TV's in the house, they work like a dream and yes I now wish I'd stuck with them as a supplier. I fail to understand why other manufacturers manage to provide full UK streaming services but Sony can't. Perhaps they will respond to this review and tell me why they can't?

I find a tv repair person and he tells me that the led bulbs are not working. The TVs are so thin, any movement can damage them. The repairman can seem to find bulbs since the tv is so new, so I have a black screen on my wall.
It appears the only option is to now buy a new tv. I am very dismayed that I took all of the precautions to move my tv and now it is useless. Is this now Sony quality????? No parts to even fix it, really?
Do NOT move this tv if you want it to work again.

Sony claims this TV is working as intended to specification. They now claim multiple engineers have reviewed the pictures submitted and that what I’m seeing is not covered under warranty (TV is 9mo old now.) After multiple calls with Sony they said the best they could do is 15% off my next Sony product with no guarantee the same thing wouldn’t happen again. When asked what their engineers said I could do to stop the continued degradation they said they didn’t have an answer for me.
Very disappointing that Sony will not stand behind their product.

detailedReviews 97: content: One of those purchases you want to love so much. It is a great panel and really shows all sources better than any TV I have ever owned. Truly capable of handling all sources, including 120hz over HDMI from a PC with great handling of HDR.
I like the menus and control it gives you over the way the TV handles inputs. For example, my prior Hiscense 4k TV would always set the PC input to game mode, when it's primary use is a HTPC which truly hurt the experience. This TV really allows the configuration I want for video. It has to be one of the best TVs on the market because it really helps the picture by the way it processes. For example, it really does an excellent job with YouTube which is highly compressed.
The picture looks great. And while it is not Mini-LCD, it really looks like it is. The picture is amazing.
CONS: I really want to give this 5 stars, but to be honest, I am sitting here on day 3 with the TV debating returning it. The problem is the audio handling.
I got the Sony SRS-NS7 neckband speaker and was excited for the enhanced capabilities the Bravio provides. I am also using the Sony MX1000M3 Bluetooth headphones because I live in an apartment with a neighbor who complains if I drop a pen. LOL I have a Polk soundbar as well.
The Bravio will be playing through the headphones or neck speaker audio device and then go crazy when the soundbar shuts down from inactivity changing the HTPC display setup and leaving me without sound. I have to reselect the audio source on the TV settings. Then, after a few minutes it turns on the soundbar and freaks out again. I have the config to prioritize Sony audio sources but still the audio output changes randomly. On occasion I am sitting there with headphones on with music playing and a moment later my soundbar is screaming at high volumes. I try to handle my rude neighbors complaints and Sony wants me evicted. In addition, the 3d sound on the neckband will not work if the soundbar is at all connected.. even when the soundbar is not powered on. To get the full capability of the SRS-NS7 the HDMI *CANNOT* be connected to the soundbar.
I guess I will have to buy an expensive Sony soundbar to try to solve the problem. For now, I just have to disconnect my soundbar and everything is fine. It is just painful as no TV speakers sound good to me. Sony should not force you to have all Sony devices use the TV but that seems to be the case.
I am sure some of this has to do with the fact I do not use the TV in smart mode, but I have never had a TV that 6 times an hour loses its mind and changes everything while you are trying to watch a movie or listen to music. I guess I have to invest more in Sony or return the TV. That is very frustrating. I really wanted to love this TV.

It’s not found & switchs to internal speakers. It wont work ever if an external (Say Roku Ultra) is turned on first. Yes, the systems are set up through the “setup” part of the system. it’s totally random. SCOURED SONY SUPPORT = NO ANSWER. —5— POOR VIEWING ANGLE: I sort of understood this factor, but didn’t know it was sooo poor. Unless you are dead on straight in front of the screen, the picture degrades quickly. —6— NEVER THOUGHT A BRAVIA WAS SO MUCH DAILY TROUBLE!!!! This is probably due to the programs themselves. For example on Prime the Mob Land program, Tom Hardys characters voice is very quiet, hard to understand and Pierce Brosnan is very loud, his accent is hard to understand though. I can’t find anywhere on the TV where I can change the Bass, Treble etc, all you can do is increase or reduce the volume. My old TV you could change the audio from Movie, Standard and Sports, this was good. This TV does not have anything like this.

Sony came out but could not replace the motherboard. We had to get another 65 inch. There was so much difficulty in communication that we have had to make numerous Communications with Sony. We did not purchase Best Buy insurance. I personally do not recommend Best Buy insurance. The 3rd TV that Sony brought to us has had to be rebooted about five times! I would definitely not recommend this product. Not a fault of Best Buy. They're great.

title: Replaced twice already, difficulty in communication

But, I have one major and one minor issue with this TV.
The major issue is that several free to air TV channels are affected by macro-blocking every 30 seconds to a minute. Usually, part of the picture will become blocky and pixelated for a fraction of a second before it flips back to perfectly clear. It is extremely annoying! My previous TV, also a Sony, is absolutely fine and the same channels are not affected. Streaming and Blu-Ray on my X90L are not affected at all.
I thought a new TV aerial might fix the problem but unfortunately it hasn’t. I have line of sight to the transmitter and the TV aerial installer says I have good signal strength. I even tried a TV signal booster but it made no difference. Neither has playing with the Picture settings menu.
The second issue is only minor and perhaps I might get used to it but I miss the numbers on the remote. Navigating through the menu when I know what channel I want is a bit tedious.

detailedReviews 106: content: The picture quality is pretty great. However the Google TV OS, frankly, sucks balls. It's sluggish, buggy, and filled with bloatware and spammy recommendations. It regularly takes like 10 seconds after loading the home screen to actually register anything you've done on the remote, and when it does, it performs all of the delayed tasks in rapid fire succession. You have to navigate to the app menu instead of the home screen simply showing you all your apps, like literally every other smart TV in the world. Additionally, you have to sign in to your google account to even use it. Personally I want to keep my personal google account separate from a living room TV used by multiple people. I tried making an email specifically for the TV but then it wouldn't let me use my YouTube TV account since it's associated with my primary google account. I'm going to get an Apple TV unit eventually just to avoid using the insultingly bad built-in UI. Not worth buying, In my experience the menu and UI of LG televisions are the best, but probably any TV that doesn't use the Google TV OS would be a better choice than this.
