The 11.4 channel system is super immersive and almost feels as if you’re completely surrounded by sound in a sphere. The bass is loud and clean especially with the Bass Enhancement dynamic control feature.
The dialogue is clear with Active Voice Amplifier Pro and SpaceFit Surround Pro. However, Voice Enhancement was kind of harsh and fatiguing, so I turned it off. Moderate bass is a nice feature to quickly turn bass off instead of changing woofer level while still getting a nice sounding low frequency boost at soundbar. One feature that would be nice to add is the crossover frequency for the sub and speakers to minimize sub localization.
One complaint I have is that you can only EQ with bands in Standard mode (7.1.4 max channels) and not Surround mode (11.1.4 max channels). The setup sounds so much better EQ’d, so it is a bummer you lose out on 4 channels if you stick with EQ’d Standard mode.
While the price is on the higher side, the performance justifies it for those looking to upgrade their home theater. Plus, you don’t need to run wires or buy a receiver. I highly recommend this soundbar. It is one of the best I’ve heard.

The support for Dolby True HD and DTS:HD make the most of your lossless 4K Blu-rays for the true home theater fanatics and the heights effects add an extra dimension on the streaming services that support it like Netflix, Disney+, Apple TV+, Paramount+ to name a few.
This soundbar sounds Eclipsa audio but as a brand new format, there isn't a lot of content to test it out with but nice to have a future proof soundbar, since this will show up on YouTube in the coming years
The main unit and the satellites are really sleek and create a wide sound stage with good surround effects.
The calibration and dialogue boost options really help complete the home theater experience as does the Q-Symphony feature if you have a Samsung TV to connect it to.
The power of the Q990F makes you think twice about going to the movie theater if you have nice enough neighbors to really let this baby rip.

detailedReviews 3: content: Samsung has released their latest flagship soundbar for 2025. I was able to test the new 11.1.4 soundbar for about a week to get some preliminary thoughts on the premium soundbar.
Samsung made a few changes on their flagship soundbar package this time around. Starting with going with the new titan black color over graphite black. The soundbar actually looks less premium in my opinion. The greyish color sticks out under my 2022 Samsung 65-inch tv. The system packs 23 total speakers, this is up from 22 with the new dual 8-inch speaker subwoofer.
Soundbar
The soundbar itself is slightly thicker and has ridges on the top. The overall design is similar to the other soundbars of old 990B-990D, but this version seems like Samsung wanted to go with “if it aint broke” approach.
Subwoofer
My biggest concern was the subwoofer’s design change. The subwoofer is now more compact and comes with dual 8-inch drivers. Samsung opted for the compact design over the taller box design with their past soundbars.
Wireless Rears
The wireless rears retain the same design language from past years. Front, side and upward facing speakers that produce a great all-around sound.
Features
The HW-Q990F has a jam-packed list of features. I would suggest pairing the soundbar with Samsung’s latest television to get the most out of the system. Wireless Dolby Atmos and Q-Symphony are back and better than ever. SpaceFit Pro handles calibrating the soundbar in your room. The system has 4k 120Hz passthrough for all the gamers as well.
Sound
The HW-Q990F performed really well with everything I threw at it. I wasn’t sure if the new compact design of the subwoofer would perform well with heavy bass laden tacks.
To some degree, the subwoofer sounded better than the HW-Q990D’s sub. The subwoofer provided some deep bass while watching movies with Dolby Atmos enabled tracks.
I can’t wait to test and hear more about the Eclipsa Audio support. I’m looking forward to this new open-source standard to test the new soundbar’s limits. Music sounds fantastic on the bar. I listened to different tracks across all genres of music for hours, and I was impressed with the sound delivery.
Conclusion
Samsung continues to set the bar with their premium soundbar. Feature packed with
all the latest bells and whistles. Since this is an early review, I’m sure to find many more gems and/or quirks to detail over the coming weeks. Well done Samsung for setting the bar and maintaining it.

Once I turned it on and heard the Disney startup, goodness gracious, I was very impressed. Bass kicked in nicely, even though it is small, it packs a nice punch. The subwoofer has dual drivers, so the bass low is pretty impressive for such a small sub. The surround sound is just a pleasure to hear. You are taken right into a movie. The dialog is fantastic. It's crystal clear without having to turn up the volume to hear what is being said. I really like the wireless speakers, I didn't have to run wires all over, although I was a bit skeptical. While watching movies, the speakers did not drop out at all. Superb sound coming from all around. I have yet to dial in the sub and speaker levels which will make an even more impressive feel.
One problem I did have was connecting to the SmartThings app. I have a unifi network and spent hours trying to connect. I eventually figured it out by changing WPA3 to WPA2 and disabling PMF. Once I did that, the soundbar connected with no issues.

First I had the Q950A, then the Q990C, and now the Q990F. The Q990F will be placed in a finished open basement on the left half, where the right wall doesn't keep the sound enclosed in the half basement listening area.
Want to talk about being an easy setup. I plugged the soundbar in, then the rears, then the sub, and they instantaneously linked together. The blue lights on the sub and rears became solid blue right when I plugged them in. I added the Q990F to SmartThings and was immediately controlling the soundbar. I turned the system on and it was working perfectly.
One main point is the size/configuration of the subwoofer. It is much smaller than previous subwoofers, but it's heavy and built solid as a rock. It has a woofer on either side instead of a single one. I used to think bigger was better with the size of a sub, but I was mistaken. I watched a few scenes from several movies known for solid Atmos, and the bass was quiote impressive. It's tight, and I could feel the bass. I quickly tuned in SmartThings the various levels of all speakers to compensate for the room, and it sounded awesome. The surround surprisingly filled the room. I was surrounded by crisp and clear sound, coupled with the punchy bass.
The Q990F rivals any mid-level amp/speaker setup costing more, and is much quicker to setup and much more compact. I cannot stress how great an alternative to a typical audio system that could cost more than this soundbar alone. I highly recommend the Samsung HW-Q990F!!

I reviewed and shopped around between the Sony Sound Bar (since we have Sony TV), Bose Soundbar, and Samsung Soundbar. I finally chose the Samsung Q Series HW-Q990F 11.1.4 ch w/Subwoofer and Rear Speakers. All three systems are highly rated. The appeal of the Samsung System was definitely the price and included the Subwoofer and Rear Speakers. Otherwise purchasing these extra components would have occurred much higher expense than the price of the Samsung Q-990F Series Soundbar. I am glad I made the choice of Samsung because it also had the HDMI inputs to connect the DVD and Satellite System, so everything is routed through the Soundbar. I would not have been able to do that through the Sony Soundbar. So far, we have been very happy with the sound output and sound effects of a theater experience. Particularly the voices come through much better even without switching the "Voice Enhanced Mode". Certainly, I would recommend to anyone choosing the Samsung Soundbar Q990F

Even worse? Samsung support is useless. I contacted them multiple times, explained that I only just set the unit up (after waiting on a TV stand), and that it’s clearly defective. Their only response? “Sorry, it’s past the 15-day return window.” As if a $1,600 soundbar should break in its box and somehow be my fault.
I’ve tried everything — HDMI ARC resets, different cables, power cycling, SmartThings app. The unit is just bad. Samsung refuses to honor its warranty or escalate the case properly.
Avoid this model at all costs. And honestly, think twice about buying from Samsung at all if you expect real support after the sale. I’ve had $300 soundbars perform better — and get better service — than this one.

I stream spotify over Wi-Fi, which sounds especially full and detailed. Integration with the TV is smooth via eARC hdmi 2.1 support, and syncing is spot-on.
Not everything is perfect as there seems to be no room calibration but plenty of calibration and customization option to do by myself. Also, the soundbar's display is small. Overall, a high-end soundbar that can do it all, the Q990F is definitely worth a look.

detailedReviews 94: content: My husband upgraded the soundbar in our sports bar basement. We had the Samsung HW-Q990C, and my husband wanted that for his home office. So the switch was made.
My husband set it up in less than 15 minutes, and we sat down to test the soundbar. We listened to several movie clips and some sports. To be honest, I thought the Q990C was excellent, and really didn't feel the need to switch. But after our test, I', glad we did.
The biggest reason to me is the size of the bass cube. It really changes the aesthetics of the look. The cube is much smaller than the original, but it's built solid. Looks clean, and it blends in better with its surroundings, in comparison to standing out more. Actually, the small size makes it appear more impressive. I like that. I actually expected less bass, but I was wrong. I, like my husband, don't like boomy bass, we like it tight. The Q990F's bass sounds noticeably tighter to me.
I absolutely recommend the Samsung HW-Q990F.

At the time, and for many years, it was amazing compared to TV speakers and the speaker setup I had before. The wireless speaker connections were not the best, but the sound was great. This new generation builds on what I have found Samsung to do with its stuff, refine it. The newest soundbar is cleaner, more visually appealing, and audibly superior. The software adds a ton of interesting features. I will say it is a huge advancement over my older generation. The pass through with a game system attached to the bar can glitch out once and awhile which can be mildly annoying at times. The wireless connection to the TV is ok, but I would recommend just using the HDMI cable. The QSYMPHONY works great for larger areas. I found it a worthwhile upgrade.

My viewing area is 16x16 and this soundbar fills the space with such unbelievable sound. The wide, height and rears do a tremendous job of really enveloping you in total immersion.
I wish there were a few more settings in the smart things app to configure but overall the app is great. I use the Q990 in conjunction with the Samsung 75 inch TV and the Q symphony feature fills out the sound even more. I extensively tested it with and without and can say that as long as you have a good enough speaker in the TV it makes a very positive difference.
Overall very happy with this upgrade and I don't think I could ever go back. Couple this with a bluray player or Fandango for high quality streams in Atmos and you're in for a treat.

detailedReviews 97: content: I love this sound bar. One of the unique features it offers is a privet rear setting (not available on other sound bars. It turns off the front speakers and woofer. This is absolutely a great feature when you are watching a movie and no one else wants to hear it in the house. All the other setting on the app allow you to tune the system to any sound preferences you like. The system has more than enough power to shake the house in action movies or music. I use this system in an 18 x 20 bedroom and it does a good job. It is a not the 7.1 sound system with my paradigm speakers and a Denon AVR-X2800H in my theater room, but it is less than 1/10 the cost. I THINK IT IS WELL WORTH THE PRICE!!!!

Dolby Atmos media sources envelope & fully immerse one in a movie.
The ability to cast audio from Bluetooth enabled devices is a truly welcome feature.
The wireless surround speakers maintain a solid & unbroken connection to the soundbar.
I have even connected my vintage turntable by optical fibre to the Soundbar ( Analog to digital ). The audio is very good.
Another thing I like about the system is that the bass is tight & not boomy ...perfectly suitable for music listening.
Overall I am very happy with the Soundbar system & would highly recommend it to anyone who seriously enjoys the home theatre experience.
Of cos, we should also look forward to ongoing firmware updates to further enhance the user experience. One thing on my wishlist is to have higher quality Bluetooth audio codecs besides the basic AAC Bluetooth codec.

Secondly, there is a very noticeable wave/defect in the soundbars plastic that's easily seen. I expected better build quality given the price point.

- with atmos soundtracks it can sound impressive, you have to have the volume so high that it’s impractical
- with the volume at sensible levels, it just sounds flat
- to get decent dialog clarify, you need to turn the volume up high, but even if you turn up the centre channel level, the surround effects are too loud
- stereo separation for music is non-existent (unless you turn on a surround mode, but then it just sounds odd)
- my ancient 4.0 (centre is broken) system sounds better
