I ended up going with NC20, which was the closest to my old NC35 shade. I didn't get to test out the new formulation on my face as I was already wearing makeup at the time, so I decided to purchase 1 of the new compacts to try on a different day. When I used the new re-formulated foundation, it was so chalky and dusty that more of the product was on the vanity than on my brush and face. The coverage is horrendous compared to the old formula; the new formula made the powder look extremely patchy on the skin. When I look up close in the mirror, I can see the grains of powder sitting on top of my skin instead of blending in. It didn't give me a smooth, consistent photo finish, which was what I loved about the old formula.I found myself applying more and more on the face in hopes that it would cover the redness and blemishes a little better, but it wasn't doing it. The old formula allowed for a little to go a long way. I used a lot less powder before, and it gave me an even coverage while blurring out the redness and blemishes.I've been a strong advocate of this foundation for so many years, and I was willing to continue paying for it even if the prices went up throughout the years. I'm sad that I now have to switch to a different brand unless they decide to bring back the old formulation. Less

Worse, the powder falls off my face onto my clothing during application, using the included sponge puff or a brush, as badly as if it were a loose powder. It also feels slippery and occlusive on my face, like a sheet of plastic.I know that this change in formula is because many consumers think that talc is poison and causes cancer. However, this is not the case. Nowadays, talc for cosmetic use is screened for asbestos. Unless you're a talc miner or miller, or as women did in the '60's you daily and generously powder your genitals with pure, unscreened talc over the course of decades, you will not get ovarian cancer from using any powder foundation containing talc on your face. It is a natural ingredient mined in the US as well as other countries. Fear of talc is an unfounded and merely alarmist fad. The new formula substitutes synthetic mica, plus an industrial abrasive and a ground ceramic. Ick! Also, this new powder has been shrinkflated. It used to be .52 oz. and is now .42 oz.Fortunately, I located the old formula in my color at another retailer and ordered EIGHT of them, unfortunately at full price. I am returning the new formula and will never order it again. Less

But after using it for a day, all I can say is "nope, nope, nope."I'm not overstating when I say that this formula is nothing, I repeat NOTHING like the original. In every sense of the word. For starters, the shades are way WAY off compared to the previous version (I'm an NC25 in that formula and an N5 in the new one.). It took trying 10 different shades to finally arrive at a close match in the new formula. And that still isn't as close to my skin tone as the old NC25.To add insult to injury, Mac did two things to this new formula that fans of the original (myself included) begged/pleaded/implored them not to do: they removed talc and added mica. Now, I can't speak for others, but as a 43 year old woman, I simply CAN'T do mica. It makes me look shiny, greasy, and just all around made up. My personal goal when wearing makeup is to look as natural as possible. The old formula delivered on that and then some. This new mica-infused one, not so much.On top of all of this, the powder looks incredibly thick and cakey when first applied. (This means that touchups are simply out of the question.). The previous formula allowed multiple touchups/reapplications throughout the day without EVER looking cakey. And believe me, I tested that limit - on multiple occasions. As for the final nail in the coffin (at least for me) with this powder...it has, in the course of a single day of use, started breaking me out. I never EVER had that issue with the previous formula so it's obviously an ingredient in 2.0 that's causing it.This, along with everything else mentioned above, has pushed me away from Studio Fix, and by extension, from Mac as a whole. Newer isn't always better and Mac has now made that mistake not once, but twice, with two of their most popular and beloved studio fix products. This was, of course, despite numerous requests from their customers to leave them as is (if it ain't broke, don't fix it!!). If Mac wants to ignore and abandon their loyal customers in this manner, don't be surprised when those customers then abandon you for your competitors. I know that's what I'll be doing. Disappointed in you, Mac - yet again. Less

Also, it had completely melted off where my sunglasses hit my nose. I looked RIDICULOUS. I was hanging out with some new mom friends who probably thought I was crazy. To be clear, it was 70 degrees outside so there is no reason for makeup to be melting off my face. I have received compliments for how this powder looked for years - I don't understand why the change in formula was necessary - and I really don't understand how this "passed" in the testing phase. Again, I'm incredibly disappointed, embarrassed about my appearance yesterday, and way too tired to find a new product - but I guess that's inevitable. Please do better, MAC...bring back the old formula! Less

Responses to some of the negative reviews suggest adding other products to make the foundation last. NO! There was never a need to do that with the original, even in my oiler days. And where is the coverage in the new version? Is this targeted to the younger set? If so Mac, you're in for a big surprise - younger women need full coverage, too, and that is lacking now. I sometimes would wonder if it would ever be discontinued, but as so many years went by I thought surely it wouldn't. But now...ugh...I have to go through the process of finding something comparable in other brands and I don't think there is anything. Why oh why did you do this Mac? It was a classic, meaning it stood the test of time. Somehow it must be about the almighty dollar. You know it was one of the best selling foundations, so it just doesn't make sense to me. Disappointed is an understatement. Please do not respond to this review. There is nothing you could possibly suggest that would make me use the new version. Less

None of the other blushes and bronzers I bought in the same order were damaged, just this one; that leads me to believe its an issue with their new formula/packaging. Idk but I couldnt even press all the powder back in to make it usable (like its to the point where I cant even put it in my purse because its that messy). Also cant return it because thats a hassle in itself and im sure the window has passed. So I essentially spent that money on a product that isnt usable. Lastly, the shade change. Im a pale girl, and have only used the same shade (even before applying this, you can hold it next to the old one and see a huge difference- to the point where i checked the sticker on the bottom to see if maybe they accidentally sent me a diff shade). I dabbed up some of the powder from this new compact to set my undereye concealer and its suuuper warmed tone and orange looking. Something labeled as neutral cool shouldnt pull orange or be that drastically different. At this point idk if I should just wing it and try their lightest shade they sell, knowing with this new formula that itll likely pull darker now (so maybe thatll work?). Less

This powder is incredible on top of any moisturizer or primer, I've used a few different kinds as well as applying without either. I also pushed the limits to see how it responds to liquid products being applied over top of it (I know, that's not how the order goes, but I like to trial and error to see what works when I'm testing new products) and it actually did pretty good. I didn't feel like I lost much coverage at all. No pilling with sunscreen when reapplying, also does well with different brands of setting spray. The only reason I'm not giving this product a 5-star review comes down to the buildable coverage component. The color match is great. I very rarely get a color match on a first go because my rosiness skews whether a formula works best on me as a cool, neutral, or warm tone. I tend to prefer neutrals, but this neutral cool was really good even over my rosiness. But building up is a little rough, and I don't want to rule out it might be me as a first-time powder foundation user - but to me that says it's not beginner friendly or intuitive. I can get up to what I would think qualifies as medium coverage - with three layers. I built up three layers doing apply-set-apply-set-apply-set. It's not bad, it's not heavy, it looks great - it's just not as easily building as cream & liquid options. It doesn't bother me but it could bother someone else.I will purchase a refill when the time comes! Less

I was able to find an exact match for myself whereas before i could only come kinda close. The powder is creamy and lightweight, and it looks like skin when its applied. I'm not oily, so i cant speak much to the oil control claims. The marketing says its higher oil control than the previous formula, and as someone who used to work in marketing, i know you don't just lie about things like that, you lie by omission. If the oil control was worse, any good marketing department would advise them not to even mention oil control. The fact that it is mentioned leads me to believe that they have something to back those claims up.All in all, this is a lovely powder. The hate campaign seems forced and like a bandwagon to be jumped on. If youre concerned about your shade, the shades are supposed to match the fluid foundation exactly and that was the case for me. So try going off of that. I'm not anti-talc, and i dont believe the fear mongering, but im also no anti-change, and i can recognize a good product when i see it Less

I felt it needs a grippy/sticky primer on my oily skin and definitely needs setting spray to lock it in because it can transfer onto your or other people's clothing. It looks very natural while giving coverage which I like, but there is the downside of it clinging or accentuating dry patches because it is a powder (so skin prep/moisturizer before anything else is a must). It definitely helps blur the skin and hides pores well, a major pro for me. It didn't crease or settle into any fine lines that I noticed. I found it lasted for 8-12 hours, as long as I made sure to use setting spray & not touch my face too often with my hands or through hugs. I personally really liked it and would definitely recommend for others with oily skin. Less

I didn’t use any setting powder or sprays, and still wore it from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Even after spending three hours sweating in my backyard while gardening, everything stayed in place. I just looked a little dewy, which honestly didn’t bother me. Because it contains SPF, I made sure to double cleanse when removing it. One thing that really stood out: in past photos, my nasolabial folds were always super pronounced with other foundations. But with this one? Way less noticeable—and that’s a huge plus in my book. Overall, it’s a solid, dependable product that’s great for on-the-go use and touch-ups throughout the day. I didn’t even get color-matched in store, but the shade turned out to be a surprisingly great fit. I received this product for free from Topbox Marketing for testing and review purposes. Less

So i drove over to my ulta and decided, reluctantly, after hearing poor reviews, to purchase this powder. Like other reviews stated, there is much more kick up of powder that flies around in the pan, the coverage is very sheer on its own, and the colors are completely different. Im usually a c4 or c3.5, but the best one i could find match- wise and with the help of the very friendly and nice worker, was nc18. (Ive used that liquid foundation color before, but it was very different from what i remember)So i used the powder on top of my foundation (because ive had to shop around for new foundations since the Fix Fluid changed and i did not like the sample (too much skincare, and i already use my own daily)), and i will say, as a setting powder for just a few hours, it looked decent. Gave a light blurring effect and the color looked good. But, i only got to use it for a week, because the dang thing flew out of the compact and broke EVERYWHERE ON MY FLOOR.Do i want go buy a refill (that i have to venture to an actual store for) that will probably, very easily, fly out of the compact AGAIN? Probably not.Im so sad. Maybe they could fix that design flaw? I dunno. Just sucks.Hope this helps! Less

I did notice that it accentuated my pores around my T-zone more than normal, though. So, to make this powder work, I had to use a lighter colored powder over the MAC powder. NW45 was way too dark and too red and I couldn't leave my house looking like that. Because of this, I can't talk about the longevity of the powder because I had to use another product to mask the darkness. It will now be used as a bronzer. The coverage is very satisfactory to me as it covers my blemishes and doesn't make my skin more oily. I feel that it's very good for oil control. It also lasts all day and does not need to be reapplied. This also does not leave any grey cast on my face like the "OG" formulation. I have never had a more perfect foundation match. My advice is to ignore these negative reviews, go into a store and find your match. If there isn't a store near you that sells MAC, order some that you think are in the ballpark of what matched you, try them and then return what doesn't work. Don't always go by the suggestion based on what you wore in the other version. Mine was off. Less

To me it just felt and looked like a powder finish on my face. The powder was very fine and so it glided easily on my face. It did seem to cover my t-zones well to cover the shine that I have. But it just did not give a full coverage that I would look for in a dual foundation/powder product. So I would feel to use this product I would have to get the liquid foundation and this powder.I liked that it came with a sponge and a separate compartment for it to be storage and the holes in the bottom of the case to keep the air flow.If I had the right color I think I would have enjoyed the product better and could have kept it on all day to see how it helped with the shine I tend to get on my nose and if it was a good all day product or if I needed to do a touch up during the day.Even though I got this as a free sample I hope my review was helpful.I received this product for free from Topbox Marketing for testing and review purposes. detailedReviews 42: content: I’m in my 30s with Asian medium skin tone and combination skin type. I love MAC cosmetics and been using it for a very long time. I completely understand wanting to match their main liquid formula in shades but in doing so they got rid of C2. C2 was my perfect shade and it only came in the powder formula. I really really hope they bring the C2, and others, back. For reference: I have combo skin (oily in the T-zone), I have a lot of redness in my skin and I prefer medium to full natural finished foundations. detailedReviews 58: content: I’ve worn this MAC Studio Fix Powder Plus Foundation in NC30 every day for a week straight around 8 hours during work at the office, and on some days even longer and it held up pretty well. The coverage stayed consistent throughout the day, no separating or oxidizing, and I didn’t need to touch up much at all. It’s very easy to apply and gives a smooth, matte finish without looking cakey or heavy, and it really helped even out my skin tone. I also love how they include a cushion right under the powder compartment. I have some mild texture and this didn’t cling to dry patches or pores. It actually blurred them a bit, which I wasn’t expecting from a powder foundation. If you’re looking for something long wearing, reliable, and quick to apply, this powder is a solid go ... detailedReviews 60: content: I'm honestly impressed with this! I have tried other powder foundations in the past, with mediocre results. This one is very smooth and fine, and applied quite nicely. The product has little to no scent, and I love that it's refillable. The little makeup sponge it came with is not great and I felt it applied the product poorly, so I used one of my own powder puffs and it was much better. I prepped my skin beforehand with moisturizer, I didn't use a primer. I'm wearing shade NC5. I used a thin layer, but you could definitely build this up to be pretty full coverage. Pardon the weird camera angles, I did my best to show that it didn't cling to any dry patches, with flash on. It's been about an hour since I put it on, and as time goes on, it just continues to melt ... MoreI'm honestly impressed with this! It leaves your skin feeling soft and even layered nicely with my other complexion products.Application is really easy and would be great for beginners as well. I do like the coverage a little better with the light touch of a fluffy brush compared to the included sponge, but that might be more of a personal preference. I do not recommend layering it with creme or liquid-based products, and it tends to come off near my nose when I wear sunglasses.I received this product for free from MAC for testing and review purposes. I am so excited to try this one with a new formula. I have combination skin so it is hard to find a perfect powder foundation to balance all. This one has a smooth texture and blends in really well. The shade matches with my skin tone and it provides a natural matte finish I love which helps to control my oily T-zone area. It is buildable and the coverage can be from lighter to fuller. detailedReviews 78: content: I love my MAC powder foundation first because its lightweight with a medium to full coverage. It leaves my skin feeling smooth and with a natural matte finish. It controls the oiliness of my face and it evens my skin tone. The best part is that is sweat and humidity resistant and doesn't cause acne because I really do sweat a lot from my face specially in the summer good thing this powder doesn't make my face look cakey or creased. Love that you can go into the pool and won't smear. Liked it's sponge because its easy to get the powder and easy to apply. Its packaging and compact mirror is the best when the powder foundation finishes you can just buy the refillable powder again. I just love it . detailedReviews 79: content: I have been using the MAC Studio Fix Powder Foundation for the past week and I'm positively surprised. I would say the coverage is light/medium, but it's enough to cover my redness. Also, my skin is very sensitive, but so far everything seems okay. The product is very easy, practical, and fast to use. The sponge that comes with the product is enough for application. The only downside is that at the end of the day, after 7-8 hours of use, I start to feel oily in my T-zone, contrary to what is stated on the package about 24h oil control. However, it's worth mentioning that: 1) I have to use a thick sunscreen that always affects the oil balance of my face, so I don't think the MAC powder foundation is entirely to blame for this, and 2) I have been testing this product ... As if all these changes weren't bad enough, MAC replaced the talc with mica, which propagates the misinformation talc is harmful and makes me look like a Twilight vampire in the sun.I've lost quite a few much loved products to bad reformulations over the last 2 years but it's especially frustrating when it happens to base products as not all brands include shades for my very fair, cool toned skin. And finding the right shade will be even more difficult now that I can no longer use NW10 as a reference. Less

If you apply too much, the finish is heavy and can feel "cakey" or too powdery. It's not the most natural: it has that "makeup" skin look, not as second-skin like other finer loose powders. As someone who is an artist and a consumer-- your community hates this product. If yall wanna keep this formula so bad, release it as a new product. BRING BACK OG STUDIO FIX!!!! MAC-- yall really effed this one up. big time. Less
