I decided to purchase their "New" Skin Protect Replacement Blade. It's about two dollars more expensive compared to regular replacement blades and claims to have "unmatched skin protection". It's literally the same blade, and the only difference is that it has a plastic layer in the middle they call a "skin protection cap." The idea is that the cap is thicker than the blade, so it creates a small layer that stops the blade from touching your skin. However, the moment you angle it, or it's not a flat area, it exposes the little blades to your skin and cuts you. The original Skin Guard protection attachment is a way better protect. I definitely do not recommend this new blade. It's just lazy marketing to promote the same product with not much changes.

I got 18 months of good cutting performance from the original one and only had to replace it when it broke.
In fact, the replacements are so much worse that after only a month of edge-trimming only, they become noticeably more dull and at times need several passes to even cut through a single stray hair despite the fact you have it carefully positioned between the teeth on the blade.
I mean, it works. But it's quite a big decline in performance rather quickly.
And that's without even using it for a full shave, or on a thick beard.
It's almost as if the blade that originally comes with the shaver is meant to give the impression that it lasts a long time and remains sharp, so that you'll happily buy the overpriced replacement blades. Then, since you're hooked, the replacement blades are of an inferior quality to ensure you have to replace them more often.
I've noticed the exact same thing with other brands of shavers. Everything is a scam these days.
Also, do not drop, bump, or otherwise cause any impact to the blades or they WILL break extremely easily.
Handle it at all times as if it's a Fabergé egg.

The first one broke one of 4 hinges immediately. I thought I had accidentally mishandled it. I made a point of being overly gentle with the second blade in the pack. 3 of 4 hinges broke almost immediately. Reading a 1 star review like this you’d wonder about the writer and if he’s just too dumb to use the product properly, but my voice is just one of many who experienced these expensive product failures. Surely Philips could make these better; I feel like they were de-contented to fail while they still had useful life but Philips went too far and made the consumables too fragile to be of any use whatsoever. The cost of these flimsy units is too high to chance buying another pack of blades and having them fail in the same way. Shame on you Philips, your customers deserve better.

Sure enough, the new blades gave a comfortable shave with no snagging and pulling, and no razer burn on my sensitive skin. And the areas of my beard that I trimmed were even and neat, with none of the usual long stragglers. The addition of the indicator strip is great because it removes the guesswork of when it's time to change blades.
The only other improvement I would have liked to have seen is some way to reduce the number of tiny nooks and crannies for hair to get trapped in. However, using a little brush under a blast of hot water did get rid of most of the hair.
Overall I think the new and improved blades are great and maintain the versatility and ease of use that the original blades provided.

detailedReviews 9: content: I have been using the OneBlade since August 2016. I love this shaver compared to my previous bulkier Philips trimmer. I use it to trim my eyebrows on a 5 and maintain a stubble beard on a 1. Because you can easily change the blades when they blunt you can keep the cut sharp which makes it smoother and faster.
Further to that, as this is a wet n dry shaver you can use it with shaving gel, foam or oils to reduce drag and get a better finish.
Removing the guards means you can use the edge of the OneBlade to contour and tidy the edges. Also handy for doing that bit right under your nose!
The main unit charges up quickly and once fully charged holds it for a while. I probably charge the battery up every two weeks or so. Also the unit doesn't slow down as the battery goes down unlike my older shaver. It's full power until the battery is drained.
This blade comes with a new (to me at least) feature which is the green usage indicator. I haven't seen it working yet but it appears the blade will turn increasingly green over time and becomes fully green when the blade needs to be changed. This is handy as I'm sure I've used one or two longer than I should have and might have thrown one away too early. Can't comment yet on how it performs but seems like a great feature to add.

the hair on my chin and neck is very tough and other races and shavers have sometimes pulled and tugged at the hair which can be quite uncomfortable, this was not the case when using this product I found the shave almost unbelievable as the hair was thick and long and very coarse in one smooth motion it cut to the skin without leaving me sore and leaving a shave I was more than happy with.
I think this is one of those rare products that is much much better than advertised I've still using the original blade which I've had for about 5 months I only shave once or twice a week so the value is outstanding as well as the shave.
I recommend this product to anybody as I feel it one of the best shows I've ever had.

They don't irritate my skin like other products.
When using the comb on the lowest setting the blade gives me a really close shave but not too close to cause skin irritation. The blades are quick and easy to use and they don't miss hairs or leave patches, they just leave me with a nice even stubble.
The hair on my chin and neck can be course and tough, however these blades glided through them without any pulling or tugging on the hair which can be quite uncomfortable.
They can be used wet or dry and give a great shave either way.
The interchangeable blades for face and body are very useful. They can give your body an all over neat trim.
I get the best results with the blade flat on my skin, then using light, long strokes shaving against the grain.
I have also used it to get a nice neat line around my hairline and ears as well as cutting lines into my hair.
The replacement blades can last up to 4 months but I prefer to change them more regularly. They can be a bit tricky to change sometimes.

Not as close a shave as a wet shave but it’s almost as good. He’s used it twice a week and had it twelve months and it’s still as good until the blade broke off today just as he was about to start shaving. I contacted Philips for some information about replacement blades before buying new ones but they said they’d replace the blade for him as it had broken off. How fantastic are Philips. Worth every penny spent on the one blade. I read a review saying the charge is not very long. Not so hubby has used it at least half a dozen times before he needed to recharge it. If you’ve not tried a Philips one blade before I suggest you do guys definitely recommended especially if you have problems with your hands due to disability.

I was getting a little annoyed with my electric triple head shaver, was tuff on the skin causing razor burn etc and never had the time to wet shave all the time so when I got the one blade it fitted the job perfectly. Although not as close as a wet shave but gets close enough to give that clean shaven look and since using I have had no irritation or razor burn at. Would highly recommend this product, it’s great for people on the move. Having read some of the other reviews I’m not really sure quite what people are moaning about when they say the heads are flimsy, I think they must be trying to cut their garden hedges with them. I have used mine twice a week for the last 12 months and it’s still going great today and only now I thinking of getting a replacement head and that’s only due to the manufacturers recommending to get a replacement every 4 months.
If you looking for a wet shave finish this probably ain’t for you but if your looking for a shaven look that’s quick and hassle free then this is the way to go. So just to recap probably the best product I have used in a long time.

HOWEVER...... three shaves in and the included head has already broken. The flimsy plastic join just snapped mid shave. No choice but to order replacements on next day or go to work looking like..... Well, I'd be pulling a sicky put it that way.
Such a shame that such a poor design given the cost per blade and 4 month at twice a week claim ruin what could otherwise be an amazing product.
Hoping it was bad luck, if not I may have to look for a refund
