items 3: content: After thirty-five years of 35 and 120-mm film photography, I decided to go FF Sony mirrorless. I couldn't afford the cameras I really wanted, so I picked up a used A6000 and some FF primes and continued to save towards my A7R5 and FX3 goals. Then Sony announced the A6700, AKA: Things that make you go Hmm. Although I would have preferred FF, I took the plunge.
From a photographic perspective, the A6700 takes the A6000 to a level that can't be described except to experience it. The materials and build have a heft that makes you realize this is a high-quality camera but without it feeling bulky or heavy. The layout, dials and controls are second-nature intuitive. The AF is a DREAM. As long as I have composed my shot properly, I have almost ZERO missed shots. The toss ratio is probably two percent, and only because of the ones I don't frame well enough. Color science is gorgeous: on a recent fall leaves shoot, every picture was pure eye candy. And while the release of the A9III has everyone ditching mechanical shutters, for me, the sound of a camera's shutter is an important, aesthetic part of using a camera. And the sound of the A6700's mechanical shutter is so soothing I don't think about the fact that I'm not holding a film camera because it feels and sounds like I am.
Video as well has been a time warp. During one stills shoot, on a whim I shot 20 minutes of MP4 in 60p handheld on a slope. I had stabilization on, picture profile Standard, and focus speed set to medium, (IE the camera's default video settings) but only because I didn't have time to to find Slog3. Without even trying, every video I took was gorgeous, tack-sharp, focus smooth, and ready to post straight out of camera. Let me reiterate: there was absolutely no post needed. I mean, you could ruin it in post if you really wanted to.
I have read the disparaging reviews on overheating. I personally have had zero overheating issues, but then again, I DON'T use cheap SD cards: only class U-3 V90 cards with at least 64Gb capacity (or higher) rated for extreme use to keep buffering down. I also begin all new sessions with a blank, reformatted card so the data has somewhere to go. Between locations, I turn the camera off. During shooting I will routinely swap the battery in use for a cooler one: it makes the batteries last longer, but doing so will obviously help keep the camera cool. Yes, when on, the A6700 does stay warm, but by warm I mean lukewarm coffee warm; my Feelworld monitor, to compare, could fry an egg. The A6700 is a camera that requires a person behind the lens. Common sense should tell you if you need unmonitored video (IE hit record and walk away) or two hours of continuous, high-demand frame rates like 4k120 for food commercials, you should consider a camera (or at least a camera cage) with a fan. However, there is a good side. I took the A6700 for an hour and a half in below-freezing weather recently and discovered it had NO cold-shutter performance issues and NO battery drain. Was this because of warmer operating temps? If so, this is a benefit to me.
My decision to get the A6700 was based on specs and potential. The A6700 has a magnesium alloy frame, is weather sealed and is otherwise designed for real-world use. In video, the A6700 gives me 4-2-2 10 bit AND timecode. That means I can do commercials for local tele AND have my audio match the actor's lips. In stills mode, the A6700 shoots raw and JPEG at burst speeds suitable for weddings, wildlife, and some sports so I can earn a side-hustle in stills while honing video skills for Sundance. No, the A6700 won't match the frame-rates of the new A9III, but it has the same AI-AF, 5-axis-gyro stabilization, auto-reframing, and ON and ON. The A6700 shoots 4k60 without pixel loss, and it does this on a megapixel platform that (in stills) is good to go for billboards and large prints, and (in video) is small enough that you don't need to upgrade your computer's operating system to process your data in post. And the out-of-camera results are beautiful, begging the question: do you really need to spend so much time in post?
In short, my synopsis is that the A6700 can do EVERYTHING that the full-frame cameras are selling a-la-carte, even if it can't do these things for as long. My only --only-- gripe with this camera is this: if the A6700 was designed with one V90-SD card slot, why can't that slot ALSO utilize C-Fast-type-A?
Am I still saving for the A7R5 & FX3? Of course. Sony's Alpha and FX full-frames are still the gold-standard cameras of any Sony-oriented studio. But...! The operative word there is still saving. For those who want to get on with their careers a bit sooner, the A6700 could be the one affordable camera that can get both your photography AND videography portfolios up and running: a specked-out but budget-friendly racehorse on a short lead line. Keep that shorter rein in mind, stay behind the lens and monitor your camera's heat performance as you go, use only clean and reformatted, high-gig U3V90 SD cards for every shoot, purchase a camera cage with a fan if necessary, and [BELLS DINGING] you'll probably start out of your career gate at a full gallop.

items 4: content: I have a Z9 along with some S Glass so I'm not hurting for a quality system. But I have been getting older and don't do as well carrying around heavy gear. I took a chance on trying out a A6700 knowing it had the same AI Subject Recognition chip of the A7RV (which I have used before) so figured what the heck. Let me just say I never expected it to bring the quality of the images I've been processing, along with subject recognition that is killing my Z9. It's faster to acquire a subject and sticks better as well. The combination of a 200-600G lens for birds coupled with this camera is near unbeatable in every regard. The detail, color and character given to the images from this camera are FAR beyond it's price. Love the large grip it has and the plethora of customization of the buttons that allows me to never have to enter the main menu. I get absolutely NO (I repeat NO) rolling shutter shooting birds in the wild. NO bent wing or artifacts. The sensor is clearly fast enough to get the job done in electronic shutter which I MUCH prefer. The focus system is just the BOMB. Colors are accurate but vibrant. If one were even thinking about such a purchase I can't imagine them not loving the results from this amazing camera.

items 5: content: I've been a professional wedding, portrait and real estate shooter for over 25 years. However my love is landscapes and more recently birding. I wanted to get a birding capable camera to work with other then my Z9 when I wanted to travel light. The A6700 along with a 200-600G lens is a very formidable weapon to nail down fast moving subjects far off and especially birds. The hit rate comes close to the desired 100%. The color rendition is superb as is the shear detail rendered, which belies it's 26mp resolution. Dynamic range is also dang good. But the small easy to manage size alone is worth the price of entry. It's NO compromise in performance. Contrary to may reports around the internet, the electronic shutter I've found to be extensively useful with NO artifacts like banding nor rolling shutter. I've tested it in ways other non stacked sensor have failed and this A6700's sensor is obviously faster and capable. I don't ever use mechanical shutter with no issues at all. It remains 14bit and trouble free. Even in my LED lit home there is NO banding. Battery life is very good indeed. I actually love the EVF finding it nice and bright with no objectionable blackout when shooting at high speeds. All in all this camera has mightily surprised me. It has certainly exceeded my expectations.

title: Professional-grade performance in a compact body
type: REVIEWS
items 6: content: Whether you're hiking in the woods or walking through a zoo, lugging large camera bodies around with even larger, heavier glass can be a real pain in the neck. Literally. It's why I'm always looking for the smallest, most feature-packed camera I can find. The Sony A6700 is that camera.
Using the same sensor found in the much more expensive FX30, the A6700 produces some of the cleanest high ISO images I have seen from an APS-C camera. Its animal eye tracking is best-in-class, and works beautifully with every lens I put on it.
But besides the image quality, I love shooting with this camera! Its small size and weight, compared to some other mirrorless cameras, means I can carry it around all day without wrist, arm, or neck fatigue!
Its fast, responsive autofocus and deep buffer, allow me to capture shots like the brown pelican in flight, shot with the Sigma 100-400(C) at 400mm, or the pelican splashing around in water, shot with the Canon 70-300 MkII at 300mm on the Sigma MC-11 EF-E adapter.
It produces clean, high ISO images, like the Crested Caracara and Snowy Egret, both shot using the Sigma 100-400(C) at ISO 1600. And when paired with the Canon EF 100-400L MkII on the Sigma MC-11 adapter, autofocus remains fast, accurate, and background bokeh is beautiful with that lens's f/5.6 max aperture, as seen in the close up of the Yellow-crowned Night Heron.
The biggest drawback to the camera that I've experienced, so far, is the low resolution monitor and viewfinder combination. Checking focus on either of those, as I did with the high-stepping Bald Eagle (Sigma 100-400(C) at 400mm), convinced me that I somehow missed focus, but when I saw the shot on my computer screen, I breathed a sigh of relief! I guess this is why Sony hasn't given the A6700 the flagship label.
In every other regard, though, I think this camera is flagship worthy, and certainly punches way above its price point in terms of size, weight, versatility, quality, and features.

title: Flagship-worthy APS-C with best-in-class features
type: REVIEWS
items 7: content: If you're a shooter who splits your time evenly between photo and video, this is a fantastic buy. Sony always made nice sensors, but the FX30 sensor that appears in this camera is truly fantastic in its detail and dynamic range. The physical body will be very familiar to those who know the a6000 line of cameras, but it has been updated with nice features like a front dial, flip out screen, and switch to go between photo and video modes. It is chunkier, which is a bit of a shame, however the benefit is that the grip is much better, and it contains a much higher capacity battery. Video features, particularly high frame rate and Log, are really fantastic. Stabilization is not Panasonic or Olympus level, but good as long as you're making an effort to hold the camera still. I like the reworked menus, and the optional touch interface. Autofocus, which was always best in class, finds a way to be even better here. I do wish the camera had a joystick in the back, but there are ways to work around this. The viewfinder I believe is improved slightly compared to my a6400. Not class leading, but very usable. There will be some who decry the modern, somewhat Spartan aesthetic, but from a practical shooter's perspective, this camera packs a ton of pro features into a small body.

title: Game changer for professional photography and videography
type: REVIEWS
items 10: content: I have past experience with the original a6000 as well as the a6400 and use the A7IV and A7R5 for professional use. The 6700 is a great body for the 6000 series cameras. The features, menus, controls, etc. all feel similar to the full size bodies which makes for a seamless experience for those using any of those newer gen cameras. I am a fan of the new body design and grip as I never cared much for the old grip designs on previous 6000 series bodies. The performance has been great so far and does not leave me feeling very limited compared to using something like my A7R5 despite smaller sensor and lower resolution.
With that being said, this is not a replacement for an A7IV or A7R5 if you require a professional body, it was never meant to be that. I have seen and read a lot about the complaints of lacking a second card slot, joystick, large EVF, etc. Too many people want a pro body at the low a6700 price point which simply isn't realistic. The cameras with those features already exist in the Sony line and come at a cost associated with all those features. This is meant to be a compact and relatively affordable part of their lineup compared to those large full-featured pro bodies. On that premise, the a6700 delivers amazing value for the price and is not competing to be a pro body despite its ability to compete in many categories. As an A7 series user that wants a much lower cost and compact camera for everyday or travel use that functions much like its full-size counterparts, this is a great option.

items 11: content: As someone that had never previously used Sony cameras, I was looking for a smaller lighter alternative to my Full frame equipment for a "carry everywhere" or vacation set up. As video is now taking up a large part of what I shoot, it had to have good video specs and performance. I've had the camera now for several weeks and honestly have to say it's an amazing little camera, small, light with incredible photo and video performance (especially for an APS-C sensor), and gives my full frame equipment a run for it's money.
I'd heard a lot about Sony's amazing AF and tracking abilities, and to be honest, it doesn't disappoint and the AF performance in video especially is simply amazing. Fully equipped with all the AI subject tracking modes from it's big brother (the A7R V), it certainly doesn't disappoint. Sure I'd like it to have twin card slots and a higher resolution screen and EVF, but it's still very workable and I guess keeps the price competitive ?
Highly recommended.

Love them, but felt like it was time to try autofocus in video which meant going Sony or Cannon. RF lenses are too expensive so Sony it was! As a one man band trying to pull focus manually for several years, getting to know and utilize Sony’s autofocus has been amazing—opening up all kinds of new possibilities. I considered the S5 ii but I think I made the right choice. Frankly the footage out of the a6700 is every bit as good as my S5 was. Raw images are absolutely good enough for me as I do some photography as well. Does it have some overheating issues in 4k 60? Yes. Does it only have one card slot and average ibis? Yes. Do I care? type: REVIEWS
items 14: content: The camera is great. Great quality photo and video.
Its not the best apsc in terms of specs. Fuji offers much better resolution, and video capabilities.
But, its an all around good camera. No negatives that ive noticed.
As a professional award winning photographer and filmmaker whose made a feature film, I'd recommend this as a great travel camera, or back up b cam, especially if you use sony full frame cameras, as the lens mount is the same.
At its price it isnt fair to compare it to more expensive, premium apsc cameras. And having said that it doesn't punch above its class. I'd argue that sony typically overcharges for their offerings. But, value can be found in the overall system.
Its just great for what it is.
If your looking for more than this offers, check out fuji xh2/2s... they cost more. But, they are absolute beasts. I use an XH2 professionally. 40mp, 8k pro res internal, and I've never had issues. Purchased this as a travel camera for times i dont want to carry more expensive and larger gear.

Image quality is good considering it's APS-C. It is great that Sony finally added a front dial and slightly deeper grip.

items 20: content: This review is coming from someone who has only ever used Sony APS-C, upgrading from the a6400.
If you're coming from any of the previous Sony APS-C cameras, this will be generations ahead. Without getting into any of the specs, I love having the ability to shoot high quality video now. Photos are crisp and operating the camera is just as easy, if not easier.
The ergonomics from the grip size to dial access is hugely improved. I prefer a bit of a bigger body. Keep in mind, the APS-C lenses will still be cheaper and typically smaller, so I'd still consider this to be a lightweight option.
All in all, a great option if you wanted to get into video or are looking for a solid hybrid camera. AND it's APS-C. Size and function with little compromise.

items 21: content: I was looking to upgrade from an a6000 (which is a great beginner camera for learning in a compact form with capable stills) as it was starting to feel dated and a bit limiting, especially for being interested in trying out video. I was thinking of getting a full frame camera but was hesitant due to the larger, heavier form factor and more expensive accessories as I am a hobbyist. Then the a6700 came out and I was excited to check it out. It offered many quality of life improvements, some improvement for photography and greatly improved video that offers everything I need to fully explore and learn about video. After checking out many reviews online, I decided to go for it and I have to say I am happy with my decision and it even exceeded my expectations.
To conclude, the a6700 is a powerful APSC camera with a relatively small form factor that feels great to use. It has great performance in photography and very capable in video. The only real drawback I can think of is that it can overheat over longer periods of intensive recording at high resolution, frame rate and bitrate. I personally don’t require this as I am more focused on photography and interested in shorter videos, which makes this camera a great pickup for me.

Very easy to use, great quality pictures, and shooting in log for video has been awesome. Many advanced capabilities as well that are ready and available when I need them. Exceptionally pleased with this purchase! Why did I go APS-C vs Full Frame? At then end of the day both get me amazing resolution and APS-C is far less expensive to shoot in. I only feel like I'm giving up a little in the wide angle due to crop factor however more rhan make up for it on zoom as it gives me a lot more zoom. Would I do it again? Absolutely!

The autofocus system is the best when paired with a good af lens. It can detect almost anything and keep the subject tracked. Capturing fast motion is also incredibly good. Videos performance no doubt the best you can ever ask for. Image stabilisation is quite okay and usable but not lumix level. Battery life is also great. Can last a whole day of shooting but its best to carry one extra battery just in case. Lowlight is also very good, on par if not better than most full frame sensor. Build quality is superb.

title: Best APS-C camera with excellent autofocus

items 26: content: I bought the a6700 after extensive research and I have to say that it has exceeded my expectations in almost every way. As an amateur photographer I am so pleased with the image quality that I no longer covet a full frame camera and will enjoy this smaller/lighter device and lower cost lenses. I cannot believe the extensive and advanced features that Sony have managed to include, not least that it has changed the way I capture images and video. For example, I now shoot action in aperture priority thanks to ISO AUTO Min. SS and the excellent focus system with subject recognition allowing for practically full-time wide and/or zone shooting. Video capture really is next level with 4K 10 bit 4:2:2 in S-Log 3 producing outstanding results. I rate this camera at 4.5 out of 5 as I have one (just one) issue, the missing 25p frame rate in PAL H.265 (XAVC HS 4K). This means that I have to record video in H.264 (XAVC S 4K) unless Sony update the firmware. Make no mistake, this is a feature rich device and to get the best out of it will require some dedication. but the available customisation of buttons, dials, memories and user menu’s allows this camera to be set up exactly how you would like it. The six (reduced size) images attached to this review were taken with the Sony 18-135mm lens and the last two images show compare ISO 100 with ISO 12800 (after 50% denoise).

title: Exceeded expectations with advanced features and image quality

items 27: content: I'm coming from an old SLT A77ii and I hadn't really used it in a number of years. The A6700 is a powerhouse of a camera in terms of features: Weather sealed, IBIS, up to 4k120 video, AI focus and subject recognition, support for picture profiles, etc. etc., and a great number of lenses to choose from (Sony, Sigma, Tamron, Viltrox, etc). I purchased for an upcoming African safari trip and I've had some time to re-acquaint myself with photography. Currently have the Viltrox 27mm f1.2 lens and the Sigma 17-35mm f1.8 lens and photos come out great with both. Will be rending a 70-350mm Sony G lens for the trip. I was tempted by fujifilm cameras as well b/c of the film simulations, but you can kind of emulate that on Sony cameras as well if you want. Anyway, happy with the camera so far - no issues or bugs. Best APSC camera Sony makes.

items 28: content: This is a hugely capable and very responsive all-rounder that now coalesces all the excellent features from around the Sony stable into one compact package.
I bought the A6700 primarily as an accessory for my Sony G 200-600mm to get the maximum out of it and it does that handsomely. The animal-tracking AF is amazing and has the parameters to fine tune it for all situations. As a result my number of keepers has increased dramatically.
The fully-articulating screen is a very important feature for me and I missed it from my days with the R1. It's great to have it back and I'm not much disturbed by it not being on-axis - it's just like using a video cam - no problem.
Screen resolutions are good and manual focus is far easier than it used to be because of it. The touch controls work well and are reasonably responsive. I'm using them more, especially when the screen is folded out and easy to access. There is plenty of display customisation.
The redesigned grip is also very welcome and while I needed a baseplate attached to the A6000 to provide support for my little finger, I don't need one with the A6700. However, the on-off switch is ergonomically poor with a tiny little pip to operate it and an awkward location when in the off position. I would have much preferred the solutions used on the F828 or the R1.
The IBIS is nice to have and allows shooting hand-held down to 1/15th sec. with my Touit 50M but I never had problems without it for the shooting I do.
The improved menu system, focus bracketing, compressed lossless RAW and front control dial all make this a great piece of equipment. I'm going to enjoy learning and using it very much.

items 29: content: Absolutely amazing camera, nice size in the hand, grip is very nice, I have paired mine with a Sony 16-55 f2.8 which is just a perfect weight and feel. The autofocus in this camera is amazing, I have tried wildlife photography and it locks onto a Birds eye very fast, has many subject detection modes including insects, haven’t tried this out yet but looking forward to spring to try it. Doing portraits is fantastic, with the lens I use I get beautiful bokeh (blurry backgrounds), it has a nice set of creative modes and plenty of custom buttons for quick actions when you don’t want or have time to access the menu system. Battery life is really good with the Z batteries, the screen is very good which also articulates, very nice Evf which gives very good visibility in day light. Overall it’s perfect for what I need and is a solid Aps-c camera, it does video but I’m just into photography so I can’t comment on that part of the camera but I’m sure it will be fantastic.

items 30: content: I have had many cameras over the years but this new SonyA6700 offers something for everyone.
The Sony out of camera colour palette is superb and the AF is almost unbelievable, its ability to lock on to virtually any moving subject is uncanny, making sharp images available no matter what the subject is doing.
The large grip is a joy and it holds the latest battery which will return approx 650 images meaning all day shooting is now possible without the need for an additional battery.
Finally, thank you Sony for at last updating the menu system which used to be terrible.
Over all this camera is certainly 5 stars.

title: Superb color, unbelievable AF, updated menu

items 31: content: It's an ok camera. I like it. There isn't much to complain about. Except that out of the box time to calibrate everything to a specific individual preference is tedious. It's the same way though for every camera manufacturer. Touching a small screen, or pushing the buttons to navigate the menus could be improved.
None of that really matters to the camera itself. Sony has I think the best AI integrated autofocus technology on the market. Every shot, if video, or still runs through this AI technology, and really does help create in-focus stills and video.
I'd recommend it for a lot of people because of this.
You can turn this feature off. Totally ignore it.
But for the most part in everyday use, you'd probably want it left on. Out of focus stills or video is the most disappointing thing to me, it's a total waste of time.
I think the strength of the camera is all the technology they packed into it to aid in helping the user, focus on the content rather than operating the camera. I think that's a great leap for creators, film makers, photographers or anyone looking for a good semi-professional starter camera.
