My favorite feature: touching the pad of the headphones to turn on ambient sound so I can hear and speak to someone. The other related feature is that it will pause music and turn on ambient sound when you start talking so you don't have to manually pause and remove your headphones to do so. Audio automatically pauses when you remove the headphones as well.
Other cool features: swipe up and down on the headphone surface to change the volume; swipe forward and back to skip tracks.
None of the above would be worth mentioning if the sound quality was not as good as it is. It's not too boomy - the sound is crisp without being harsh. I grew up listening to high end audio and these headphones deliver.

We liked them so much that we bought them twice, the first time a year and a half ago, and then again during the sale that coincided with prime day a month ago. So now, we don't need to share when we fly!
They sound fantastic, and the sound cancelation is absolutely top notch. You can be sitting right behind the wing, directly behind and aside the engines (the loudest part of the plane due to the travel of sound), and all you'll get is the gentlest hum. When my wife would let me have a turn, it was the biggest and most comforting relief. Cannot recommend these enough for the noise cancelation alone.
As far as sound quality, theyre really outstanding in that regard too. The full audio range is nicely calibrated out of the box. I sometimes even use them for watching and television at home if my wife is sitting next to me and shes talking on the telephone. Excellent sound quality. You get the base is great, the dialog comes clear.
Features are cool. You can connect to 2 things at once, you can turn the noise cancellation on/off, you can have it so that the noise cancellation automatically turns on/off if you start talking. neat stuff.
Easy to pair with devices like most Bluetooth devices. Ive paired with my television, sound system, cell phone, etc. The only thing i couldnt pair it with was my PS5, but thats because the ps5 "doesnt allow for audio bluetooth devices" (per the ps5 notification that pops up.
They seem durable enough, unlike the newer versions. The newer versions of these (the xm5 and xm6) have these little thin hinges atop the earcups, and if you go to the headphones subreddit, youll see constant posts of those snapping. These, on the XM4, are wider, less stylized, and seem more durable.
Very comfortable. I have sensitive ears, in that my ears get really hot and irritated sometimes, so i need to be carful with what i use/wear (and earbuds give me insane ear ache, so i cant wear those). These headphones have never irritated my ears. Theyre very gentle, soft, and breathable. I also have a rather large head, my hat size is between a 7&3/4 (XXL) and 7&5/8 (XL). For reference, the average male head size is 7&3/8 (L), which means my head is roughly a full inch wider then the typical. Now, you might think that an inch isnt that much of a difference, but it is. Point is, these still fit nicely and do not squeeze my XL/XXL head.
As far as why i chose these in particular, i used the review website "RTINGS" to help me narrow it down, and it was a fight between these and the bose quietcomfort. After going to the bestbuy to physically try and listen to both pairs, i liked how these performed just slightly better overall.
In conclusion - great headphones. You wont regret going with these.

Sound quality is great even with a Neutral EQ profile. I prefer having a custom EQ to juice out the best performance out of these. Great app with all the important features. Ambience mode works great, Speak-To-Chat feature works really well when at office / at the gym. Noise cancellation on these are on par with the high end headphones.
I’ve tried them wearing these on a 30 hour long flight journey 3 times. They do not tire your ears, do not feel heavy, ANC blocks majority of the flight engine noise, flight infotainment adapter comes in handy in older planes, battery life lasted the entire 30 hours with ANC On always! It still had 15% charge left.
I have even compared these against its successor XM5. Like majority of the reviews say, XM4 are a great for price headphones, XM5 aren’t much of an upgrade considering it’s $100 more than XM4. Wait for XM6 to upgrade! I also like XM4 foldable design better than XM5.

They do not completely counter all sound, as any active noise can still be heard but in a much more damped state. However, background noise, such as the tv in the other room or noise coming from a neighbour are vertuallyu neutralized. They are way cheaper and they deliver excellent sound. Theres an app you can download to set the headphones the way you want it.
They come with a wire to connect to your headphones and I have used it when I want to watch something on the plane movies' catalog, so I have good sound and noise canceling while watching the plane's movies.
Overall, they simple, nice, lifht weight and deliver great sound, besides come with a case that it's very useful when I'm traveling.

I was lucky enough to be able to try them, through my friend, before I bought. And I was genuinely impressed, I ordered a pair the same day, the price was a little daunting to some, but I saw it as an investment... After I got used to the features that come with the app, and used the headphones themselves, it was clear I'd made a good choice 👌 Listening to music, either on a walk or just to chill, no longer left me with the aching ringing ear, so already exactly the sort of thing I was looking for, but more, the sound quality is superb, genuinely perfect, the noise cancelling is brilliant, enough that the world around you fades away, but not so much you forget what's happening around you, the voice control (can't remember exactly what it's called) that stops the music etc when it detects you/someone else talking works perfectly, and having an on/off option in the app means you can use it for when you really need it, but when you just want to tune the world out & chill you can do that too. They also connect to my smart TV, which for gaming is ideal, and the way the sound transfers from TV/PC speaker to headset is night and day, particularly for "emersion" games. I'm still playing with the equaliser options, but the standard option is perfect all around for what I like, if you know more about how EQ works then me, I'm sure you'll have fun playing with the custom options in the app. Anyway, rant over 😅 these are a brilliant pair of headphones well worth the money for what you get, and knowing its a Sony product gives a guarantee that they'll last a good while, and pay for themselves in the long run. 10/10 would/have recommend/ed.

Corded headphones will always be capable of producing significantly better results (When matched with similar quality sources) than cordless. Its simple physics and electronics! That being said good quality cordless will generally headphones will generally give results which are generally beyond humans audible perception so this is where the other points come to the fore. Convenience, portability, comfort and affordability. I believe, across the board, the XM4 is the best across the board under 1000. Even better than the XM5 as these fold and are easy to carry. The Apple sound very marginally better but they are huge and battery life can be limited as they cannot be turned off unleaded in their case which looks like a handbag! The are huge! I could talk about B&W and B&O but I dont think they are better and have their own issues which can be read in many reviews. Also they are double the price. Then there are variations in broadcast material. Buy the XM4 and youll never be disappointed. Try a side by side test and Im sure youll agree. They are truly brilliant and play with the equaliser youll achieve just the sound youre looking for!

items 14: content: It was months of contemplating which ANC headphones I should get for my AuDHD (i tend to have sensory issues) and this have helped me greatly in terms of coping with episodes of overstimulation 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻 The sound quality is great after tweaking with the EQ on the app and the comfort is just nice too since it's light and the clamp on the head isn't too tight (there is a tendency to sweat easily so I wouldn't recommend long periods of usage as the leather may crack, thus, I bought extra padding to deal with that as seen in the pictures I've provided; also do be mindful that since the clamp is not very tight you shouldn't jump and run with them on as they may be prone to falling off). Personally, the ANC's cabin pressure isn't as overwhelming as the xm5s (though the Bose QC might one up the xm4s on this in terms of comfort ie. barely noticeable white noise). As for battery life, maybe it's because I tend to use it a lot with the ANC on but it's subpar. Though, the xm4s do make up for it by having fast charging (20% -> 100% after 40 mins of charging iirc). The touch controls are an added bonus, too, with how easy it is to use. Also, bluetooth connectivity is splendid and pairs really fast to my devices + the option to use these turned off but wired while maintaining a decent sound is great. Anyway, this is a pretty long winded review so I just wanted to say that, overall, compared to other headphones within this price range, this was a pleasant purchase and worthy investment and I hope that these last me long enough in the coming years 😊🙏🏻

Build quality, slightly concerned, they are sooo light, they feel like they are going to break everytime I use them. The arm extension is where I get the weak point is. I will be extra careful with these to make sure they last. Get covers for the pads, as they are NOT easy to clean and get nasty right away, and start to stink fast. Not great for working out, high humidity is not good for them. Don't use in the rain, ever. Sony's app, is INSANE, you can set up sooo many features it's WILD. Although their 360 reality audio is not worth it, because only two streaming services can even ustalize it and I don't use those. Hopefully they can garner more support for it. If Spotify used it I would to, but they don't. Skip the extra costs. Not worth it. Update, battery life is soo good that my phone died 3x's before I had to charge them.

There were items from Sennheiser and Bose among others for consideration and in my mind they were always the top of the tree when considering a purchase however once I started reading reviews from publications like What Hi-Fi and members of the general public on various forums these headphones seemed to be THE ones to go for. I was surprised as I’d never really considered Sony. What a mistake that was.
I’m so glad I did, the sound is incredible, the charge lasts for so much longer than I could ever have imagined and also they’re so easy to operate with just a swipe up/down on the side pad for volume control or back/forward for track advance. I love the fact that if someone attracts my attention and I remove the phones the music stops and when I replace them the music starts again. It’s only a little thing however it makes such a difference to the overall experience.
They come in a lovely case as well which keeps them safe when not in use as well.
In short I love these headphones, I’m no audiophile however I highly recommend them as so many have done before

I've been after a noise cancelling pair for a long time and did a lot of research and was debating between these Sony ones and the Bose ones. In the end I settled on the Sony ones as I liked the cool features it had, like being able to automatically stop and start playing when the headset is removed and the speak to chat function. I've since turned off that function as I like being able to sing along to my music. I also like that I am able to control the volume and fast forward/rewind tracks without having to do that on my ipod. It's also great that the headphones can be connected to two devices at once.
The noise cancellation and the ambient sound settings are amazing. I also love how clear my music sounds. The headset itself is very comfortable to wear, they cup the ears nicely and I didn't have problem wearing it all day at work.
The case it comes in is very sturdy, yes it's bigger than the Beats one but I like that as I don't face a struggle to put the headphones in the case when I'm done.
The battery life is very good and when charging it it has an light to let you know once it's fully charged. Overall very pleased with my purchase. The delivery itself was excellent too, I ordered this on Tuesday morning and it arrived Wednesday afternoon.

I was so impressed with the sound quality and features, especially considering that they’re within the orbit of supposedly. ’audiophile’ headphones (for less than half the price) & streets ahead of my older bone-conducting headset that I ordered my own pair. The noise cancelling settings take some tweaking, but I even use them in my workshop and when mowing as earmuffs now. My only criticism is that the over-ear design makes my ears hot and a bit sweaty after a while, but that’s not a make & model related problem, it’s a my sweaty ear problem. I heard later from the station staff that the original pair I’d found was reunited with their owner, which I was glad about. Good advertising, in a very roundabout, happenstance way!

They come in a sleek, high-quality case and fold neatly away/ travel well.
I purchased these after having a look at various comparisons with Bose/ other brands. These consistently stood out. I'd been blown away by the value/ quality/ durability of my in-ear Sony WF-C500 buds. I've had them for years now and subjected them to all sorts. Still great. Sony just make outstanding headphones.
Finally, I've heard the newer model of these isn't as comfortable despite some sound improvements. I think for 99% of people, these headphones are still the best on the market all things considered.

They have great noise cancellation and are extremely comfortable! I have worn them for hours of working out with zero discomfort.
Battery life seems very good as well, but I like to use the aux cord to plug into my laptop which does not drain the battery life at all.
The headphones and aux cord fit really nicely into the carrying case and it barely takes up any room in my backpack.
Sound quality is good too, but I would recommend downloading the app and adjusting to your liking. I’m a bit hard of hearing so I feel like the volume on these doesn’t go up super high. However, for my needs I don’t need to have anything at full volume anyway.
These seem very durable too, so I have a good feeling they will be a “buy for life” pair of headphones. I’m very satisfied with the quality, especially since I got them on sale for $199.
Overall, these are an extremely well-rounded pair of headphones! I’m very happy with my purchase. I considered the Bose QuietComfort, but these check more boxes for me. Would highly recommend it! :)

items 25: content: We were so impressed with this product, I 've personally had gaming headphones in the past "other brands", nothing can compare to the quality for price when purchaing your next headphones. In fact, we kitted out our family of 5 with a set each "over a couple of years". just for the simple fact of how good these actually are. We even decided to bypass getting the later edition because we really liked the style of the MX4B and how they compact down when packing for travel. The sound quality is excellent and the battery life is pretty good as well. I really love the fact that I can have 2 devices connected at the same time. This is really useful for answering calls on my phone while "working" on my PC. The tap to answer calls or pause is another really great feature which I use often. I just hope they keep this model in production incase we ever need a replacement.

I honestly found the xm5s to be lighter and more comfortable but did not think they gripped as well. There was a lot of movement when moving my head. I am not and audiophile so for me there was not enough of a difference or in fact a substantial notable difference. Also for me the killer feature is them folding into their case, especially for travelling where they get used most. I spent about an hour trying on both these and the new 5s, although heavier (by no means uncomfortable.) (Just used them to Las Vegas and back) With no issues regarding long term wear. I also think they feel structurally stronger than the 5s. Again ideal for travelling or hangng around neck. Totally recommend!!

This is my first pair of headphones in so many years, I’ve gotten used to using wireless earbuds, like the AirPods Pro, and while they’re good for what they are I always felt like I wasn’t experiencing a genuine and immersive listening experience when listening to music or any sort of media. So I decided to buy headphones and after a lot meticulous research on which headphones to buy and which one had the best sound quality, battery life and comfortability I narrowed it down to the XM4 and the XM5. I went with the XM4 since it was a bit cheaper and from what I read from other reviews it was a more comfortable fit than the XM5. And let me say the XM4 certainly lived up to its expectations and at times exceeded it! They sit so comfortably on my head and it doesn’t feel too loose or too tight. The sound quality blew me away I felt very immerse into my listening experience and was able to pick up on a lot small details in songs that I completely missed with earbuds. The battery life is insanely good! Another thing I love about these headphones is that you can customize the sound of it on the Sony Headphones app to whatever liking you choose. It’s a neat detail that really made my listening experience with these headphones just that much better! This is definitely worth the buy! I don’t regret this purchase at all!!
