2. Turn off laptop, open back, and install new SSD in second slot.
3. Turn back on then use Windows "Disk Management" to "initialize" new SSD.
4. Use Acronis automatic mode to clone original SSD to new one (make sure partition is full size).
5. Turn off laptop and replace original SSD board with new one.
6. Turn back on and download "Optimization and Update Utility" from T500 page.
7. Install then run and select "Firmware Updates" to get newest version.

detailedReviews 2: content: Crucial makes a good product but I am dinging them 2 stars for not being very clear on installation. The hassle I experienced is due to three different vendors, Crucial, Acronis and Dell. As a minimum there should be a very clear warning that additional hardware may be required.
My laptop can only have one HDD or SSD, not both, so I needed to clone using an external drive. The free Acronis software is worth what you pay for it. The cloning instructions said to install the SSD in the location where it is going to be used and place the old drive in an external enclosure so I ordered that as well. I read the Dell installation instructions and had to order a bracket for securing the SSD and was warned that no screws were provided so I had to order screws. At least with Dell I knew up front.
After all the parts arrived I proceeded to remove the current boot HDD and installed it in an external enclosure. I then installed the SSD in the laptop. After reassembling the laptop I plugged the hard drive into a USB port, set all the BIOS settings and the computer couldn't find the boot device. I tried all the USB ports and searched on the Web and changed BIOS settings but the drive would not boot.
I decided I would create a bootable Acronis drive with another laptop but Acronis is hobbled and requires a Crucial SSD to be installed in the computer to run the software. More wasted time.
So I chatted with someone at Crucial who didn't fully understand my issue. His final solution was to swap the drives and put the SSD into an external enclosue, so that is what I am doing. I have ordered that and am awaiting delivery of that enclosure for the SSD. I now have my laptop back to its original configuration and booted it up successfully after figuring out all the BIOS changes to boot.
The one thing I did not try was to use the USB-c port that I didn't know I had until I had swapped everything back out.
Everyone can point at the other Vendor so no one is accountable. BE WARNED. If you can have only one drive in your computer, you will have your work cut out for you.
If I have more issues I will update the review.

Macrium Reflect Home X, the trail version, was used following an article from XDA-Developers.com “How to set up an SSD as boot drive for your new or existing computer”. I also referred to a older You Tube video by Access Random – “UPDATE: Using Macrium Reflect Free to Clone Windows to a Bootable M.2 SSD” to create a USB Rescue Media . The clone time was about 30 minutes using the Type C port (20 Gbps) on the rear of the computer. Removed the old drive and replaced it with the new T500. I did nothing to the BIOS and left the original settings as Boot [UEFI] and Boot Option one as [Windows Boot Manager] and SATA/NVMe Operation as [RAID ON]. The XPS booted up and ran fine with the exception of Norton having to have the KEY reentered to work. The T500 was recognized by the CrystalDiskMarkInfo program and the old Kioxia NVMe was not listed. With all the problem comments on RAID and UEFI settings in the BIOS, I was at my knowledge limits. Using the winsat disk command in the Terminal Admin mode the Sequential Read was 5980 and Write was 4993. The Crucial Spec Sheet lists their 1TB at 7300/6800. I did not turn on the Momentum Cache in the Crucial Storage Executive software. The current Firmware Version is P8CR003 and would not update to P8CR004 using the Crucial Storage Executive – there was a warning of “no drives were found in the system. This may be because your drives are allocated in a RAID configuration. You may proceed with a manual firmware update”. I will try Crucial Support for the answer. Overall, I am happy the way it turned out – thanks to the XDA-Developers and Access Random articles/video for Macrium Reflect.
Update 12/31/2024 Called Crucial Support and the agent confirmed that in order to update/add the P8CR004 latest Firmware with Crucial Storage Executive I could not do this with a RAID configuration on the Dell XPS as it would affect other drives (HHD and SATA SSD) as well. This was why I was receiving the Warning or error. The agent also cautioned using Momentum Cache for the same reason – RAID being on in the BIOS. With my limited computer skills and knowledge, I chose to leave the T500 as is – after all it is twice as fast as the original Kioxia NVMe.
Crucial has two FAQ’s to better explain the subject – The first, Storage Executive Fails to Update the Firmware on My SSD states, “Ensure that you are not using RAID mode in the system BIOS settings. RAID will often prevent many of the features in Storage Executive from working with your drive, AHCI is the preferred mode. Refer to your system manufacture for any help with this setting.” The second, Basics of RAID – “In terms of day-to-day use, RAID works similarly to a single disk, but diagnostic tools read data from a RAID configuration differently than they do a single SSD or hard drive. For example, Crucial Storage Executive is not fully compatible with some RAID controllers and configurations, and specific functions such as SMART reporting or firmware updates may not work at all in these unsupported environments, requiring the RAID to be temporarily disassembled for updates or troubleshooting of individual drives. Also, while modern operating systems and RAID drivers allow trim commands to run on SSDs in RAID, legacy operating systems and drivers may not properly support them, meaning functions such as Garbage Collection become more important for maintaining the highest performance from connected SSDs.”

title: Dell XPS 8950 cloning and firmware update issues
detailedReviews 4: content: The Crucial T500 SSD is a PCIe Gen 4 NVME solid state drive. It fits into a standard M.2 slot with a 2280 drive form factor. This version of the T500 does not come with a heatsink, but rather has the typical heat spreader label found on most NVME drives. This didn’t affect me as my motherboard’s main slot comes with heatsink. I installed the T500 in my ASUS G16CH tower with an intel i7 13700KF CPU and custom ASUS B760M-A WIFI D4 motherboard. I moved the original NVME drive to slot 2 just below the GPU – both slots run at x4 PCIe Gen 4 speeds, but I wanted the T500 in slot 1 because of the heatsink and better airflow.
I have used Crucial SSD’s for years and have had pretty good success. I have a P2, and a P5 NVME drive along with an older MX500 SATA SSD installed for years without issues. Looking up the drive with Reddit’s SSDBOT gives you a nice look at how it stacks up with other drives. It gets rated as a High-End NVME drive, and by the specs its right at the top of the PCIe Gen 4 speed rating. The only way to go faster is to jump up to Gen 5 based drives and spend 2.5-3x more for 50-80% speed bump. The current speed of this drive is rated at 7400/7000 read/write with 2500 P/E cycles for endurance.
Physical installation was a breeze. Replacing or adding a PCIe based SSD is one of the easiest upgrades you can make. The drive does not come with a screw, so if your MOBO doesn’t have a spare you just need to track down an M2x3mm screw. I have a computer fastener kit, so I just pulled one from there. As far as software installation goes I figured I would give the Acronis drive cloning tool on Crucial’s website a try. I usually do a fresh install, but thought the clone might work a little better. I regretted it to be honest. It seemed to clone just fine, but after a few days I started noticing some glitches and some instability in Explorer. I eventually just wiped the drive and did a fresh install of Windows 11.
The drive I replaced with the T500 was an OEM drive that ASUS sourced from Micron – something close to a Micron 2400. Micron happens to be the parent company of Crucial, so there’s that. It was a 1TB NVME drive that had QLC NAND chips and was also a PCIe Gen 4 drive. The T500 was an upgrade all around with some similarities. The obvious being the 2TB size over 1TB. Speed increases were also substantial as the T500 was almost 2X faster – R/W of 4500/3600 for the old drive and 7400/7000 for the T500. There are also some architectural advantages to the T500. The NAND chips used are TLC (triple layer cells), which have been around for years and are a mature technology. The TLC chips offer greater endurance over QLC and increased speeds. The controller used in the T500 is a Phison PS5025-E25 – the Phison lineup is used pretty heavily in higher end NVME drives, so that provides some confidence in its usage.
I ran the drive through CrystalDiskMark 8.0.4 and I pretty consistently got around 7100 MB/s for read speeds and 6825 MB/s write speeds. This is a little below advertised but I would call it pretty close for my taste. There’s always some system overhead with this being the OS drive, so I can’t rule out that taking some bandwidth. For practical usage I redownloaded my Steam and Gamepass libraries to the new drive. Before I had to pick and choose what I wanted on the 1TB drive, and what I had to load from my SATA SSD or Hybrid Hard Drive. With 2 TB of storage I am just at 40% capacity used and I have plenty of space to grow my library. Launching games is a touch faster – load times are down noticeably for the larger games – MCC, Forza, Shadow of War. In some of the smaller/older games that get played the load times weren’t vastly different – 8 seconds dropping down to 6 seconds doesn’t register as much as 15-20 second improvement on the larger games. Compared to loading games from my HHD though – enormously faster. An HHD drive is already decently faster than a plain HDD, so I can only imagine the improvement you would see.
I didn’t really have a chance to try out many other workloads – I haven’t gotten my Solidworks working after resetting my PC, but I do know that a faster drive is always welcome when I work on larger models. The jump from a SATA SSD to an NVME drive was a pretty big leap when messing around with large files, so I can only speculate that I should see further improvement going to the T500.
As far as use cases are concerned I would suspect anyone looking for a large boot drive that has some speed would be interested in the T500. It doesn’t break the bank compared to the PCIe Gen 5 drives, and it is certainly fast enough to handle any gaming needs. If you have a laptop with only 1 M.2 slot this is definitely a drive to look at since you don’t have the luxury of multiple drive slots to spread your data around on. The durability of TLC NAND and the Phison controller would bring me some comfort if this was my PC’s only drive. Overall, this is a solid PCIe NVME drive. I don’t think you can really go wrong by choosing it.

detailedReviews 5: content: My gaming rig was quickly running out of space to hold installs of all the active games I am currently playing. I was super excited at the opportunity to upgrade to the new Crucial T500 2TB NVMe SSD. Installation was a breeze on my machine, and I chose after install to perform a brand new OS install vs cloning from my old drive. This ensured everything would be fresh and error free.
Once booted up into my new installed OS, I ran some initial disk speed test, and while my read speed was in the upper 6000 MB/s range, by write speed was around 1000 MB/s, a far cry from Crucials anticipated numbers. I found that Bitlocker had enabled itself automatically. Upon disabling, and running a new test, I was getting 7000 MB/s read and write speeds. I also got in the 99% range using disk mark on the performance test tool. These are absolutely incredible speeds.
Please note that this is a Gen 4 NVMe and to get speeds close to this, you need to have a motherboard capable of Gen 4 NVMe.
Aside from just RAW numbers, everything else about my system is super fast and snappy. Installing applications (when not downloading online) are super fast. Copy files, moving around the operating system, start up and shutdown, are all blazing fast, taking only a matter of seconds to perform any test. Windows open instantly too.
Gaming performance isn't held back either by this drive. If you have all the other appropriate components, the T500 SSD won't be a bottle neck for you. You will realize the maximum potential of your games.

It’s no secret that game’s file sizes are ever increasing - Call of Duty can take up several 100 GBs on its own. If you haven’t yet had to delete old game files to make space for new ones, you will soon. And if you’re tired of having to micromanage your hard drive space, then you need extra storage. 1 TB is good, but more is better, and while the costs of the 4 TB SSDs are still pretty steep (often ⅔ the cost of a PS5), the 2 TB Crucial T500 hits a nice balance of price and performance. It’s a no brainer of an upgrade for your PS5.
There are a lot of manufacturers out there, but Crucial is a global brand known for high quality memory products. You know what you’re getting - quality and performance. This particular model is Gen4, and while Gen5 is starting to come out, its speed matches the performance necessary to run inside your PS5. While knowledge of technical details isn’t necessary for the masses, when looking for a SSD for your PS5 you just need to know that you need Gen4 M.2 with speeds greater than 5,500 MB/s. There are a variety of form factors, but the vast majority will work with the PS5. You’ll also need to make sure it has a heatsink. For those that don’t know, that’s because these little SSDs can get pretty hot and they need to dissipate heat. This Crucial T500 checks all the boxes.
Its theoretical speeds get up to 7,400 MB/s read and 7,000 MB/s write speed. While my PS5 didn’t quite get that fast - your PS5 will display the speeds after it’s initially formatted for use - it was more than adequate. Read, it met the minimum requirements. After it’s installed in your PS5, you are then able to download games to it. While your games are stored on two separate drives (the SSD and the internal PS5 hard drive) it’s not something you have to worry about (until one of them runs out of space). And I noticed no difference whether a game was installed on the PS5 internal SSD or the Crucial T500. Honestly, there’s nothing more than you ask for. This drive brings incredible performance, and the price for its size is a terrific deal. I can’t recommend it enough. There might be other cheaper drives, but you won’t get the 5 year warranty and comfort knowing you have a SSD from a known, and quality manufacturer.
One little aside, and this to all those who have not installed a SSD in their PS5. There are plenty of videos on the internet - including from PlayStation - showing you how to do so. For those who are not familiar with computer parts or are nervous about opening up their PS5, I assure you it is a simple process that takes only minutes. Once it’s unplugged, you place it down, lift up the corner of the faceplate and with a little pressure, it will slide off. From there, you simply need a Phillips head screwdriver to remove the SSD cover plate, and to tighten the SSD into the slot (it slides in and then a screw holds the SSD in place. Put the cover plate back on, and then slide the PS5 cover on and voila, you’re done.

I will state first that I was a little nervous upgrade my PS5. I'm comfortable with my PC and laptop upgrades, but opening my PS5 was a first for me. There are plenty of YouTube guides to help, so after watching a few I took the plunge.
First the Crucial T500 looks nice, the heatsink looks to be a full body heatsink so I don't think you could remove it - so if you buy this version, make sure you want the heatsink. Crucial also do make a non-heatsink version if that's what you need. This model comes with a "Works with PS5" label and there's not much in the box other than the T500 NVMe and a leaflet that points you to the Crucial website. The box reports that the drive has a 7400MB/s speed and a 5 year warranty. That speed is FAAAASST and a 5 year warranty is more than enough for the lifespan you would get out of your PS5.
After install in my PS5, I was prompted to format the T500. This took a few seconds. When I copied across games from the internal PS5 drive (Spider-Man!) to the T500 it took less than a minute. There's no real way I can independently benchmark performance on my PS5 but I find those speeds impressive - the benefits of being a Gen4 drive!
Overall, I absolutely recommend the Crucial T5000 2TB drive with the integrated heatsink as it makes it 100x better than what I was considering - a drive then buying a heatsink, thermal paste, etc. If you own a PS5 filled with games and DLCs, this is a MUST buy.

INTRO
The T500 represents Crucial’s (Crucial is owned by Micron) premium entry into the consumer NVMe market. Crucial has put all the necessary hardware on the drive to make it a top performer in the field and the specs and the results prove it. The T500 is capable of sequential read speeds up to 7400MB/s and write speeds of 7000 MB/s. Crucial places approximately 1GB of DRAM per TB, so this 2TB SSD is equipped with 2GB of DDR4 DRAM. Managing all of this is the latest Phison controller that supports Microsoft’s DirectStorage tech. Warranty on the drive is 5 years with an endurance rating of 1200TBW.
SYSTEM CONFIGURATION
My test computer is a new 2023 Asus ExpertCenter. It has a 13th generation Intel Core i5 processor, 16GB of RAM, and most importantly, supports the latest Gen4 NVMe interface. The computer came with a Micron Gen 4 NVMe drive installed, but it was only a 500GB model and honestly, speeds into and out of the drive were underwhelming. Far from what I would have expected from a Gen 4 drive.
While I was hoping for improved performance from the desktop, my real reason for installing the T500 is I am trying to make the Asus a mild gaming PC in addition to its daily chores as my primary workhorse. After installing just 2 games on an otherwise fresh install of Windows 11, I had clogged up over 60% of my existing drive. This was forcing me to store larger work files on my NAS and my performance was dropping off rapidly, the fuller the 500GB model got. Storage room improved significantly with the T500 as final capacity after partitioning, provisioning, and installation of Windows 11 yielded 1.83TB of usable storage space.
After installing the drive in the desktop and a fresh copy of Windows 11, it was time to reload all the latest drivers, my current choice of games, and all the latest productivity and business software. Surprisingly, the computer was much more responsive. Opening and installing large files seemed much quicker. Larger video driver downloads compiled faster and were much quicker to open after download. The computer just seemed peppier and no matter what I asked of the desktop, it just felt much snappier and less labored.
I thought this was more of a mind trick than anything. I had made myself believe that after spending all this time installing the drive and re-downloading all the software I use, this desktop must be quicker. Kind of like when you put a shiny new part on your car and you swear it runs better, has more power, and gets better mileage. So, was I just making myself believe it, or was it faster? Time to find out. Fingers crossed, because this installation, update, and all the software downloads & installs took a while. Ugh.
Queuing up CrystalDiskMark confirmed my observations. The desktop is decidedly faster than it was. Going from one Micron drive to another shows a vast disparity in drives with the same Gen 4 interface. Attached are photos of the results. The T500 is nearly twice as fast as my old NVMe drive. Sequential and Random read and write speeds are right at where Crucial claims they should be, topping more than 7000MB/s. Outstanding. Even more impressive, is that even during all my benchmarking, the drive never got over 71C and never thermal throttled. Partly because of good case airflow, but mostly due to the integrated heatsink on the drive. A worthy option whether you are installing the drive in a PS5 or a desktop.
Synthetic benchmarks aside, this drive is markedly faster in day-to-day tasks. Opening larger driver installation packages is much quicker. Driver installs, game installs, everything happens much quicker with the T500. To prove my theory, I used my 2 newest games I purchased over the holidays. The files are massive (both games clocked in at over 80+ GB each). Once the games are downloaded, the installer goes back, reads, and verifies the installation. With over 80GB per game, this can take a while and it did.
My old Micron drive averaged just over 1 GB/s read speeds (sorry, I don’t have photos documenting). Top read speed was approximately 1.25 GB/s. Not bad. However, the T500 crushed it. Game verification was taking place at over 4 GB/s with speeds reaching up to 4.3 GB/s. That’s nearly 4x the increase in performance! This is immediately noticeable when opening a large application, starting a new game, installing drivers, etc.
NEGATIVES
The only negative I find about the T500 is its lack of hardware-based encryption. I scoured the Crucial website and even their product literature and can find no mention of support for encryption. A premium drive of this caliber deserves the ability to support hardware-based data encryption, especially one that Crucial is billing not only as a gaming drive, but as a drive designed for demanding workloads.
FINAL THOUGHTS
The lack of hardware-based data encryption is the only fault I can find with the T500. It is an excellent drive that can reach the upper limits of data throughput in the Gen 4 interface. It has a great warranty and is made using, in my experience over the years, Micron’s excellent memory chips. I have had nothing but exceptional performance from my Crucial and Micron products. I’ve been using a low-end P3 in another desktop for years without issue. I have no doubt this drive will serve consumers well and will continue with Crucial’s excellent reliability.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

This particular model is equipped with a heatsink that fits perfectly in a PS5, and meets the appropriate minimum requirements that Sony mandates. It’s also a great drive in general. I started with it in use on my PC, but then swapped it to my PS5 for the extra space. A generous 2TB of space is just what the gaming doctor ordered.
The T500 is one of Crucial’s first 232 layer TLC drives (manufactured by micron). TLC has better write endurance than some of the cheaper QLC drives, which in this case means your 2TB drive should be able to handle a minimum of 1.2 petabytes of writes (1200 TB). Also, the drive employs 2GB of DRAM cache to help speed up reading/writing. This use of DRAM means it makes a good OS drive. The cache however hides the fairly slow TLC writing. In my tests however, I was not able to hit that, but I have seen theoretical tests that show this. If you're looking for a drive to constantly read and write large 4 or 8K video files, this might not be it.
Inside the box, you’ll find the drive. It’s compact, as any m.2 drive is, but it includes a black heatsink that has decent thermal mass and cooling fins. It’s not the best heatsink design, but it handles the crucial branding well while keeping the drive at reasonable temps. I first installed it on a PCIe expansion slot adapter, as all my primary m.2 slots were filled. Initial testing showed the drive a bit slower than the claims of 7400MB/s. My crystal disk mark hit about 6300 and the PS5, when installed showed just below 6000MB/s. While not as fast as advertised, it’s still really fast, and shows the power of PCIe 4 drives, and comes in well inside what the PS5 needs.
Overall, this is a good DRAM based drive with a decent amount of cache. Could you find faster drives? Yes. Can you find drives that are better for the PS5? Maybe? Can you find a better OS drive for a PC? Maybe? Overall this drive isn’t going to lead any categories, but it's faster than most at a competitive price. The use of DRAM cache makes it very attractive, and the general overall performance seems to be great. Definitely recommended.

detailedReviews 10: content: As much as I would like to maintain a physical only library for my PS5, the convenience of pre-loading games and not having to swap out discs is unfortunately too convenient for me.
Which means that given most PS5 titles, especially AAA games, require easily 100 GB or more, my disc drive PS5 ran out of space pretty regularly.
The Crucial T500 with heat sink was designed with the Ps5 in mind, and adds a very welcome 2 GB of extra memory.
Installation: directions included with a QR code to scan for details. If you’ve never opened your PS5 casing, I’d recommend actually watching a quick YouTube video to get a visual description of where and how to apply pressure. It’s not hard, but it can feel like you’re putting too much pressure on in order to get the “pop” of the cover. Once the case cover is removed, you simply move the riser and screw to 80 and slot the memory stick in. Very very easy.
Performance: I didn’t run the memory stick on my PC to get a full diag, but from real world use, I loaded COD MW 3 and I didn’t notice any difference. Crucial specs state the T500 is capable of up to 7,400/7,000MB/s sequential read/write speeds, but again, from use, I didn’t see any slowdown. I also didn’t feel like games loaded up much faster, so it’s probably on par with the stock memory speeds.
Overall a very easy solution to increasing your PS5 memory capacity.

I can honestly agree with my kids, all 4 of them, the Crucial loads much faster than the old SSD, GT7 was almost instant screen for once, it blew me away. I have had zero issues with the transfer of data back and forth as well from the OE internal SSD and the Crucial T500. No data loses or gaming issues have yet to arise, it just works flawlessly. I do not know what else to say but that, it works exactly how Crucial sells them for, fast and effective PS5 storage space.
Install was a breeze as usual, if you are afraid, watch a YouTube how to and do it, takes no more than 10 minutes taking your time to add in massive amounts of space for more games! You need this if you are buying these big games today, Until Sony and their competitors man up and give us the needed 10tb of space right out of the box, we will just have to support companies like Crucial so we can have what it should already.
Do not be afraid to buy the T500 SSD, it works and works perfect.

It's one of the fastest advertised drives out there so you really shouldn't have any issues feeling like this is a built in drive.
Installation is painless. Honestly, figuring out how to hold the top panel you have to remove in order to get it to slide off is the most complicated part. After that, you just insert it into the slot and screw it in and close 'er back up. Setup on the PS5 side is just as painless as the PS5 will notice you've installed a new drive and ask what to do with it right away. Then you can just select the new drive as your default install drive and you're off to the races to install whatever you want.
There's not much more to say about usage. I didn't notice any sort of slowdown when using this drive. Feels just like the internal PS5 drive. The only pain point (to me) is a software thing on Sony's side where you can't select what drive you want to install to each time you install something. This is definitely no fault of Crucial and the drive works great.
If you're looking to more than triple your PS5's storage capacity, you can't go very wrong with this one. It's easy to install. One of the quickest drives you can get (I haven't tested it in a PC but I'm sure it would do wonders in there as well). Not much downside here. If it's in your budget, get it.

Crucial has been around for a LONG time and has been a “go to” for many of my PC builds, first with their memory, and now with their SSD’s. I’ve used their SATA units many times, but this is my first foray into their NVME line. (which is crazy because I’ve been using NVME’s since 2016)
At the top level, it just looks like another run of the mill 2TB higher end PCIE 4.0 drive from a reputable brand. Once you start testing it, you’ll realize that it's crazily close to the top tier (which I own a 2TB model of) of PCIE 4.0. I was able to peak at 7.1GB per second reads, and 6.8GB/s writes, and that was on the chipset fed M.2 slot on my motherboard. (Had it been directly attached to the CPU lanes, I would expect a slight increase in performance, but nothing noticeable in everyday use) A couple of its RND4K speeds in crystaldiskmark actually beat my other top tier drive. All while staying under 60c (according to HWINFO) which is crazy considering I tested it in a mini ITX box on the back PCIE slot that has little to no airflow!
If you need a solid near top PCIE 4.0 NVME drive, I’d heartily recommend this Crucial!

This drive solved that for me. 2TB seems to be a sweet spot of added storage on PS5, IMO. It’s both fairly affordable and provides enough storage to have plenty of games on hand and ready to play.
Crucial’s drive was very easy to install. Simply slide off the bottom (side) panel of your PS5 and you’ll have direct access to the M.2 slot. Since digital games can be downloaded again and save files are stored on the primary console storage, swapping this drive with the one I had was very simple. I transferred some games to the new drive from console storage and downloaded the rest. - That was it!
The new drive is speedy and games run smoothly, as you’d expect. Like my prior drive, games stored on M.2 storage load faster than internal storage, with mine reported with a read speed of 6272 MB/s after initial formatting on the console - that’s slightly slower than my last drive, but not by much. I’ve had several other Crucial products in the past and think of them as a reliable brand, so I also have more piece of mind in choosing their products. I couldn’t ask for more!

detailedReviews 15: content: I had already been using a WD Black 1 TB SSD as my expansion storage, so first I had to clean that out before I could swap this into its place. I used another SSD I had and moved things from the old WD drive, then when that was finished, put this drive in and copied things back.
The first thing I noticed when opening the packaging for this one - the whole unit feels a bit more solid than the WD Black did, even with the WD's built in heat sink. This sink seems a bit heavier.
Swapping the drive out was not a problem - this slid right into place, got it screwed down, and then powered the PS5 back up. It immediately saw this drive and told me that I could either format it or power of the PS5. I formatted it. Went quickly, just a couple seconds, and it was there. Got in and copied everything off the temp SSD back to this again. I then copied a few more things off of the console storage just to make it less than half full so things were balanced out.
Playing games off of it, I see absolutely no negative impact. Games still load ridiculously fast, the instant resume is fine. I love having yet another terabyte of free space over the WD Black I had in there.
Since Sony made it so easy to upgrade, and this is such a great price for what you get, definitely something I'd recommend to any gamer with a PS5.

What I didn't think about was that some of the new releases were only going to be released on the PS5. I had to delete 2-3 games when my son was given Spider-man 2 for the PS5. I was frustrated but it was the right thing to do, and I could always replay the games but once I was given the opportunity to try out the T500 from Crucial I was pretty excited.
I was a little nervous about taking apart my PS5. I removed the vertical stand...not sure that I actually needed to do that now that I think about it. I pulled up a YouTube video to get instruction and taking the front cover off and the installation was very easy. You just have to shift the cover down and up. Once the cover is removed, you have to remove the memory slot cover with a phillips-head screwdriver. Once the cover is off, you'll need to remove the stability screw as well. That will be re-inserted to hold the SSD in place. Insert the SSD drive, install the stability screw, and place the memory slot cover back on as well. Put the PS5 cover on and you are good to plug everything back in. Once the PS5 is back on, you will have to format the drive...just follow the prompts. It's actually very easy.
I currently don't have the ability to test the speed as other uses have, but here is what I can tell you. I play in my basement on a wireless net work. I moved all of my other games to the Crucial SSD except for my Call Of Duty game. I have played every game I have a least once or twice after moving them all to the new SSD. I have had no issue in performance, glitching, or slow down. I do not feel any extra heat coming from the system.
I highly recommend this for anyone looking to expand their gaming inventory and not wanting to break the bank. Performance is excellent and the installation was pretty simple.

Boy was I wrong - it's somehow like a night and day difference in my laptop. Things that before took a second or two are now literally instant. Oh, and I have the extra space too which is always welcome.
The installation was easy - the hardest part was getting the bottom shell off my laptop (that will vary for you depending on your laptop model - note that some may be very hard or impossible to remove) to get to the 2280 M.2 drive I was replacing. From there it was a simple matter of switching the drives and copying the files / operating system install.
I ran a few tests and the numbers back up the "feel" test - I'm seeing just a bit over 7000 MB/s read and just under that in write. That's outstanding and you can really feel the difference. It does run a bit hot in the laptop (I had to go without the heat spreader since that won't fit for a laptop install) but only a touch hotter than the prior SSD and not that worrying. I'm going to get another one of these to upgrade my older desktop SSD as well now that I've seen what they can do! So if you could use more speed and good space for a good price, give this drive a try today!

detailedReviews 18: content: I did not realize just how slow my current M.2 was until I was speed testing both drives. The Crucial T500 is BLAZING fast, just make sure you insert it into the Gen4 slot. On initial install I accidentally installed it in the Gen3 slot which led to confusion about the still fast, but not face-melting speeds I was expecting with specs that list “Sequential Read: 7400 MB/s, Sequential Write: 7000 MB/s.” After swapping slots of the M.2s, and having to reformat the drive, I could experience those speeds. Also, just as an FYI, Windows is smart enough to find the appropriate boot drive, even if you switch which slot the M.2 is plugged into! I did have to go into Disk Management for Windows to even recognize the drive at the start though which was a little surprising. In disk management I reformatted the drive and that’s when it appeared in File Explorer.
I ran some UserBenchmark to compare the two drives and here’s what I found comparing my old Gen3 drive to the Crucial T500. Crucial is the second SSD performing 611% faster than others using UserBenchmark. Check out the photo for more data.

detailedReviews 19: content: This drive is insanely fast. I think the only way you can get faster is if you have a PCIe 5 system and drive. With my out of the box testing, it still came up faster than other drives I have had, but like they even state in the small print “System variations will affect measured results.” I’m sure there are other settings I could probably change on my system to try and get the results higher, but this is already twice as fast as my older 512GB drive and of course the capacity. It is so hard to fathom 2TB on something so small.
As with any NVMe drive, installation is pretty straight forward. A single screw for most computer systems, some just a clip. Of course, pending what you intend to use the drive for makes the rest of the process dependent on what you are doing. If you intend for this as a main OS drive, if you have the second slot, cloning the main drive first saves so much time and effort. As a secondary drive, just mounting it and assigning a drive letter and you are up and running.
Overall, this is what I expect from Crucial, a company that has been in the memory business for 25 years. Now to fast forward time 5 years or 1200 TB written and see how well this drive stands up to time and use. It certainly will get the data usage there faster than my old drive.

Installing the Gen4 2TB Crucial T500 went exactly as expected (almost). I had one remaining available M.2 slot, slid the new drive into place and snugged up the screw. When I benchmarked it, I was seeing numbers about half as fast as what was expected. After consulting my motherboard’s manual, I learned that one of its four M.2 slots is Gen3 – and I found it on the first try! Go figure. The fix was easy. I swapped the new Gen4 drive with an existing Gen3 drive and I was off and running. (As an aside, I was concerned that the OS (Windows11) might have a problem with the unexpected drive/M.2 slot reassignments, but drive letters were retained and the system didn’t miss a beat.)
Benchmarking the new drive in the Gen4 slot shows that I’m getting read speed at 96% of rated and write speed at 99% of rated (see image). I’ll call that good enough!
I moved my Steam library from its Gen3 home to the Crucial T500 Gen4 SSD and got an immediate performance boost. I expected some noticeable improvement, but wow! Load times are significantly reduced. The biggest change has been with Starfield; load time is actually cut in half (~25 seconds vs. ~50 seconds) and the incessant loading screens between environments are noticeably shorter.
I’m sold on the Crucial T500.

While I did not run any benchmarks, the memory seems just as fast as the built-in memory in my PS5. Includes a heat sink, which is important in the PS5 because it does not look like there is much, if any, airflow across the SSD when installed in the PS5.
I was actually a little surprised because this 2 TB stick is a little "shorter" than a full-length SSD (at least compared to previous SSDs that I have used).
Unit comes in a relatively simple box with some directions. Aside from that, the "experience" with this memory is relatively no frills, but it does what it is supposed to do (provides 2 TB of storage) and it does so quickly.
Unfortunately, I have not been using the memory for very long, so I am unable to provide any feedback on the longevity of the memory. Given experiences with other SSDs, however, I would suspect (or hope) that it would hold up well over time.
So, the short story is that this memory is fast and spacious. Looking for an SSD to plug into your PS5 to expand your storage? Definitely worth considering.

I knew there would be some disassembly of my PS5 and I think that would make anybody a little nervous. The form factor of this SSD is tiny! The picture doesn't do it justice in terms of size. I am happy to say that I was completely wrong about the install. It could not have been easier! Keep in mind that instructions are all located online, none really come with the box. Once I went to the listed web address I found the tutorial, complete with written descriptions and pictures for installation reference. All I had to do is take off one of the exterior covers of the PS5. After that I took a small screwdriver and removed one more metal cover and the access to the memory upgrade slot was uncovered! There is one more screw and spacer that had to be moved. Other than that, the memory card just slides right in! Once I installed the memory card and replaced all the covers, I turned on my PS5. It immediately recognized the upgrade and formatted it. Now I have PLENTY of space for more games and data. Gone are the days of having to remove games to install new ones! I couldn't be happier!

My system is currently using a WD SN850X NVME for Windows, Samsung 850 EVO SSD, and my big boy WD Black 4TB HDD. This Crucial drive will alleviate some of the "pressure" on my 4TB HDD.
Starting off, installation for me was very simple. I had access to my M.2 slot on my motherboard right above my graphics card. Took less then 3 minutes. Next was initializing it in Windows, and after that it was ready for work.
I ran some tests using Crystal Disk Mark to get an idea of what gains I would be seeing. My current system is running an Intel 9th Gen i9, so my speeds are only PCIe Gen 3. The T500 supports Gen 4, so my results are a little lower than what they can be. But nonetheless, speeds blow my older drives out of the water. Compared to my WD NVME, the T500 sits almost the same or even better. Where the true difference lies is with my WD Black HDD. The new T500 sees speeds more than 15x that of the WD Black. It's crazy! Compared to my Samsung SSD, the T500 is more than 6x faster. I'm very happy with the results.
Speed tests are great, but what counts is real world tests. I moved 5 games from the WD Black HDD to the T500, and this is where the magic happens. Loading screens are almost nonexistent. Playing Horizon Zero Dawn I saw load times drop from almost a minute to just 15 seconds or less. And with this drive being 2TB, it will hold a lot of games for years to come.
For someone looking to upgrade their main drive or have extra storage for games, the T500 is one of the best drives I have used. It doesn't matter if you're using a motherboard with PCIe Gen 3 or Gen 4, you will see huge speed gains in everything that you do.

Games load quickly and effortlessly, and I noticed absolutely no hiccups while playing. Also, I do not worry about heat issues because of the heatsink. It should also last longer than non-heatsink SSDs. Now I do not have to have an external SSD taking up a USB spot.
With today’s AAA games needing incredible amounts of space, -even when they come in disk format, having an additional 2TB makes all the difference. Again, installing it is a breeze. It goes without saying that of course, this SSD is highly recommended!

Most specifically, up to 7,400 read, 7,000 write speeds, 232-layer 3D TLC NAND, Micron LPDDR4 DRAM, 1 GB per 1 TB of NAND flash, and Phison PS5025-E25 controller. Supports Microsoft Direct Storage and can be used PS5, PC, or laptop.
For my testing I put it in my gaming laptop. Which is an Acer Predator Helios 16 (2023). I didn’t get max speeds, ~7,000 read and 6,900 write speeds. Which is extremely close to what I am getting with my SN850x and 990 Pro. The differences between them I don’t think is meaningful. Transferring large files (>200 GB) went quickly and stayed at high speeds throughout. Again, traded blows with both the SN850X and 990 Pro where no one was an easy winner. I didn’t have any issues with thermal throttling. But that will depend on how much of a demand you are constantly putting on it along with if you have a heat sink or not.
Overall, great SSD that I have no complaints about. I can’t mention an increase in speeds or game loading times compared to my old drives as I’ve already been using high-end SSDs. But can say this is very similar and if I was doing blind testing, I wouldn’t be able to tell a difference. If you are using an HDD or a gen 3 SSD (and your PC supports a Gen 4 SSD) I highly recommend the upgrade. As there are a lot more things that are starting to utilize these faster speeds so you will see a difference in multiple aspects such as boot times, transferring large amounts of files, loading files, texture loading in games, games loading up, and loading screens to name a few. Especially, with games that support Microsoft Direct Storage. The 5-year warranty is greatly appreciated and has multiple features to keep it fresh and as fast as possible.

As for the design, well, it looks pretty nice. Sleek. Clean. Simple. Not that you will see it. I am sure the heatsink helps with heat, probably helping performance-wise, but, honestly, I wasn’t having issues that I knew of, and just wanted this for more storage.
Installation is pretty simple. Not much more than opening up the system, inserting the drive, and securing it. It should not be an issue for anyone, even for users who are technically limited. Beyond that, once installed, formatting the drive, and getting ready for use is just a button click away.
Performance-wise, from what I could gather, the speeds are good, and I did not see any difference between this and the default console drive; however, at least with the PS5 (more on that later), it seems I was not hitting the rated speed of the drive. I think this has to do with the PS5 and not the drive, but honestly, I am not sure. Regardless, this is more just something to note than a complaint, as I am not seeing any real-world differences, but it would be nice to get everything out of the drive that I could.
As I mentioned earlier, I was mostly just looking for more storage capacity, and, well, it has taken care of that. It is nice to have some room to play with.
Ultimately, I like this drive. It gave me the space I was looking for, with good speeds, and from a quality brand. You could probably find a cheaper drive, but I like knowing I’ve got some quality chips and a nice warranty just in case. Further, while I am currently using this in my PS5, I like knowing I could toss it in my computer if a need came up. I am also fairly confident I would hit those rated speeds if I did. All in all, for all that you get, I think this is a good value.

The problem with games as they get better and bigger worlds to explore is that they get larger in the process. With games over 100GB these days you definitely want that extra storage. So far 2TB has been enough for me. I have Windows OS on its own 1TB drive so I only have games on the Crucial SSD.
When I know I’m done with a game I delete it from the drive so space hasn’t been an issue. If you’re someone who likes to have many games loaded to a drive and always ready to go, you might want to opt for a larger size or run multiple drives.
Crucial is a great brand if you’re in the market for a new SSD. I have had no issues with their products over the years and definitely recommend this SSD. The hardest part will probably be deciding which size you actually need and I’d recommend at least 2TB.

Now I understand that this drive is advertised for much higher read speed, close to 7K+ but only gets 5468 on PS5. The thing is that it is same for all the drives I have tested, my SN850X also gets close to 5500 mark and so does the Samsung 990 drive.
So, nothing problematic here, I am sure if you set it to a PC and test it with CrystalDiskMark or some other tool, it will correctly report the sequential read speed as 7K plus. I think PS5 just average out a couple of benchmarks and reports the number.
I further tested it and played few more games for some time. I faced no issue in 2 hours long session of last of us 2 remaster and Death Loop. I checked and the heatsink did it job perfectly, I could feel it was a little warm but no complaints from PS5. Please note I did not put the disk cover back.
My PC also recognized it correctly using the M2 port but as it is bit dated with PCI 3.0 bus, it cannot utilize the full speed of this drive.
Overall a very good disk standing at same spot at SN850X or Samsung 980.

Just note when buying the drive that there is no included screw so make sure you have one on hand or there is one already on your MB. Ran Crystal Disk (see pic) and constantly was getting 7400MB/s+ reads.

While the samsungs performed pretty good, this Crucial T500 almost doubled the speeds in both directions, in comparison to the other two drives.
After setup I installed some games and ran them to see if the speed felt any better, as well as some video editing softwares. I personally feel this drive has improved the load times of a few of my games and one in particular doesnt seem as laggy as it normally would while running. The performance of my video editing software also feels it is moving with a little more pep than before.

If you want to stop having to erase games to add new ones, the Crucial 2Gb SSD is a great option from a company you know can trust for a quality SSD.

The installation of the T500 was extremely easy. Of I’ve never done this, it is super easy to do. Just make sure you get the appropriate T500 with integrated heatsink for your gaming system.
Removal of the panel on the PS5 is very easy. You lift a bit and slide the panel off, and it will reveal the SSD slot. Make sure that you don’t drop the screw and locating spacer that is pre-installed on the PS5. Insert it at an angle and slowly press down into place. It’s very easy. There are plenty of YouTube videos on it.
I’ve been able to download a few games on it so far. There have been no issues, or game lag, since installation. With 2tb of space, I’ve got enough room to download enough games to keep me happy for the time being.
The Crucial T500 has a 5 year limited warranty! That is a big plus for me. I would definitely recommend it to anyone.

What comes in the box is just the SSD so make sure you have the right screw to install it on your motherboard. Crucial has always been my go-to brand, and this product proves why I keep coming back.
Overall I'm really impressed with this product. It does as advertised and has given zero issues. I may get another 2TB SSD. Or I might wait until they release the 4TB option to fill up the second SSD slot on my laptop. 10/10 reccomend!

I'm using this in my Alienware X17 laptop as a secondary drive and couldn't be happier. It runs fast and stays cool even with long gaming sessions "where my games are stored and the 2tb size gives me plenty of room for lots of games. Now when using with this X17 I did get the compatible heat spreader “with thermal interface material” for the proper installation, and luckily the laptop already had a screw installed in the secondary slot.
Using Crystal Disk Mark 8.0 I easily got 6900+ MB/s read and 6400+ MB/s write speeds, which is really good for a SSD “at this price point” and simply blows away any spindle drive out there.
When you are looking for either expanding on your main storage device or adding “if you have a M.2 slot available” storage space, you can’t go wrong with the drives offered by Crucial.

Since the PC has an E2 slot, I bought a Crucial 1TB SSD card for it. Installation was straightforward, and I used a set of instructions from the internet to transfer the contents of the old boot drive to the SSD. This was also straightforward until I reached the point where I wanted to boot from the SSD. In the end, I unplugged the old boot drive Sata cable and the system booted from the SSD and it was really fast. I then plugged the old boot drive Sata cable back in and it still booted from the SSD.
The down-side is that I never got the Crucial Storage Executive to work (PC came with Raid enabled) and I couldn't get Windows to use the Micron NVMe Driver (it prefers it's own), so it could work even better. But it is so much faster (33 seconds boot time) than it was before so I'm never going back.

However, beware this version of the SSD does not come with a attached heat sink. From what I read it is good to have a heat sink on the Gen 4 PCIe SSDs. My Gigabyte mother board came with a heat sink and a M2 screw. The heat sink from Gigabyte took a little tweaking for it to make contact completely, but that is another story.
I used AOMEI to transfer my data rather than the provided Acronis software from the Crucial web site. Past experience with Acronis has been iffy at best.
Crucial does provide a program call Storage Executive which provides details on the SSDs health including temperature. Mine is running 33 degrees C.

So setup was straight forward. Popped off the back of my predator laptop carefully. I used a star bit put the screws on painters tape for temp storage. Gingerly pried the backing off.of the laptop with a plastic prying tool. Removed the old 500 MB secondary hard drive. Inserted the 2 TB secured it with the screw. Reversed installed the bottom cover and booted the PC back up.
Windows 11... Went to setup hard drives. Recognized the hard drive. Initialized it and I was left with just under 2 TB due to file allocation info...
Went on to test transfer rates... Test folder with file size was just over 12 GB. Micro SD to HD was slow. Probably limited by Micro SD card. But from SDD to SDD... Holy cow..... I was getting almost 2 GB/s. Cover says up to 7.4 GB/s. I did not get there probably because my on board SDD is not rated over 3.
FYI. This 12 GB of data is 4K video from my Vlogging camera. So I know there is a lot of data in these files.
But my 12 GB of data was transferred so fast that I barely was able to click the mouse and take a photo to show the transfer speed I hit.
Opening and playing the video was fine. No lag. No buffering or latency ..
I will use this to store my game play data and my video content that I have or need to create using my video software.
If you are looking for large storage and fast transfer speeds look no further. Good job Crucial .. I would recommend this product for what I reviewed it for.

While the first one worked for storage purposes, it wouldn't work as an OS disk and had to be replaced.
When I received the replacement disk, I couldn't clone my SATA disk on it (Bluescreens after a few minutes and nothing could fix it) but I could do a clean Windows install and now it works perfectly.
Only downside is this tiny issue but it was fixed quickly as the replacement was sent really quickly but other than that everything is great.

While there is a bit of room there, you need to get the battery cable on the ROG Ally X over the top of the SSD and if you have a heatsink you may not be able to clear that height.

As of right now there are not a ton of games on Windows that support this technology, but updates are coming to several titles I play that are supposed to get updates to take advantage of it. It's nice knowing that my machine is ready for it and I can't wait. It is however important to note that DirectStorage does not work with RAID enabled so I would recommend checking Microsoft's requirements to enable this feature via a Google search.
That said, this drive even just compared to other older NVME drives is capable of loading things faster with it's blazing fast read and write times and even just copying large files or videos it's clear this drive is blazing fast. When running the CrystalDisk benchmark on my machine the read and write speeds are consistent with the advertised speeds, though it is worth noting that your motherboard, and software settings may vary results but it is fair to say it's in line with speeds advertised. At these speeds the bottleneck quickly become other areas in your system like the CPU/GPU and RAM with the Chipset/Motherboard. Ultimately, that makes this drive a good futureproof investment that should be able to last and what's impressive is that Crucial backs this drive with a 5 year warranty on top of that.
So even if your current motherboard doesn't support Gen4 slots onboard the new board surely will and this drive will be ready. Alternatively, you can get a PCI-Express NVME adapter that supports Gen4 provided you have a PCI-E x4 slot available so that is another option to expand storage WITHOUT having upgrade your motherboard. Again, there may be other bottlenecks doing that and speeds would then be based on what the motherboard supports on the PCI-E bus/chipset, but it is a way to expand storage and take advantage of Gen4 speeds without totally changing your system. This is also a great way to just add storage for installing games to the drive (which is what I do) without having to move your OS installation, which requires a number of steps and an adapter if your PC or laptop does not have a second NVME slot.
I'd recommend this drive, especially if you are looking to expand storage and having other Crucial drives I can say they are dependable and offer consistent performance over the long term or at least they have for me and this drive is no exception.

I used the T500 for my PS5 and it was a breeze to install, the heat sink is the perfect size and I didn’t struggle at all inserting the drive into the expansion slot. The drive was instantly recognized by the PS5 and worked without a hitch. I know the T500 is rated at 7000+ read/write speeds under perfect conditions (usually when system is cold without anything else on the drive), I decided to do something push the drive to see how it would respond. I downloaded 2 games from PSN straight to the T500 and installed Spiderman 2 from disk to the PS5 hard drive and than moved it to the T500 (all games being 60-80 GB not including updates). After this I erased the contents of the T500 and reintroduced it to the PS5 to see how well it would perform and I was surprised that even after 3+ hours of constant use the drive was still doing over 5000+ read/write speeds which was mind blowing that after that amount of time the drive was performing at such a high level.
I continued playing my PS5 after these test for 4 hours ( don’t judge me too hard) and there was no visible slowdown what so ever, load times stayed the same and no hiccups in any of the games. I even moved games back and forth from the PS5/T500 and speeds remained constant. This seems to be because of some of the best industry components, the T500 has 232-Layer NAND along with one of the best controllers from Phison. The tech behind the NAND and the controller make it so you can game/create content and anything else for hours on end without having drops in performance as you would with prior hard drives.
Besides the PS5 the T500 can used to game on windows since it can utilize DirectStorage which can cut down load times from 2.5 seconds to under a second which is substantial. The T500 is a perfect storage device for all your digital needs and has a crazy 1200 terabyte endurance which means this drive wont fail you even if you added/removed 80 GB a day for over 10+ years.
Overall I think this drive is great, there is very little thermal throttling and Crucial being a leader is memory give me comfort that everything on the drive you be protected for a long time.

This loads games extremely fast, no waiting for shaders anymore and no stutters. They’ve also adopted a more clear cut naming convention that falls in line with their flagship Gen5 SSD, the T700, and now the T500 falls in place for Gen4 and starts making the product stack complete.
Previously, Crucial sold Gen4 SSDs under the P3 and P3 Plus SKU, but I have a feeling they may rename these to T300 or something to fill out the round-up. I have a P3 Plus 1TB in my PS5 and it is fine for that, but compared to PC SSDs that can max out PCIe 4.0, it didn’t really compete.
That’s where this T500 powered by the Phison E25 controller steps in, with Seq Read/Write speeds up to 7400/7000MB/s which is on par or better than the Samsung 980 Pro and 990 Pro drives and also the excellent WD SN850X. Crucial also has the ability to use their own Micron DDR4 DRAM and fast in-house NAND flash, with only the controller being farmed out, so Crucial really has a lot of control in the tech they put into this SSD.
In terms of actual performance, this SSD did great. I got the version without heatsink because I wanted to put it in my gaming laptop and even under relatively sustained testing, it did not overheat or throttle. On my 13700HX MSI laptop, I was seeing 7077/6844 MB/s Seq Read/Writes and 924/728 MB/s RND4K in Crystal Diskmark. This was on par with my Samsung and WD drives within 10%, with the 990 Pro and WD SN850X eclipsing 7300/7000 MB/s read/write and performing better on random I/O as well. Still, compared to the Crucial P3 Plus, this is a huge improvement as that drive was in the 5000/4300 MB/s range with about half the random I/O as this T500.
So while Crucial hasn’t exactly dethroned Samsung or WD on the high-end, don’t sleep on the T500 if you need a fast, well-priced Gen4 SSD from a rock solid brand like Crucial. I certainly trust this brand more than some of the other SSD makers out there since I have a lot of RAM and other products from Crucial and have used them over the years.

Between several games that have notoriously long load times like Forza Horizon 5, and even older games like GTA 5, I was able to load GTA5 ten seconds faster and Forza Horizon 5 six seconds faster.
This card is usable in multiple platforms and the heatsink version is even usable in upgrading your PS5 storage. This version is great in laptops, desktops, and workstations. I also find it re-assuring that Micron is even offering a 5 year warranty on this SSD to bolster its confidence in performance and longevity.
It is recommended by windows 11 to disable core isolation and virtual machine platform when running this hardware for improved gaming storage performance.
Overall I have been very impressed by the storage capacity and speed of this SSD. It is a great benefit to my gaming set up and is well worth the price point. I highly recommend.

I approach the review of any new SSDs with a bit of trepidation, assuming the worst before proven otherwise. The Crucial T500 is pretty impressive, however, and seems like a step in the right direction for value performance.
The T500 is the second PCIe 4 SSD I've used, and the first that has DRAM for primary cache. As a result, it's pretty freaking quick. Using CrystalDiskMark on my PC, sequential reads reach 7000 MB/s and writes are over 6000MB/s, but the real boost is in the random r/w performance and latency. Read latency is reduced by 43% from my other PCIe 4 SSD, and write latency is down by 18%. Vs a very quick PCIe 3 SSD, latency is down by 60% for reads and 34% for writes. CDM also reports more than 1.1 mil read 778k write IOPS, which is just phenomenal. Those numbers lead to the kind of real world performance that improves the "seat of the pants" feel when gaming, especially with a reasonably priced SSD.
The T500 I received includes a PS5-compatible heatsink to provide consistent write performance and improve longevity of the drive. It's so nice that Sony went with a standard m.2 slot for storage expansion and that drive manufacturers are so eager to include PS5 compatible heatsinks on their drives. Another plus for the T500 is that the upcharge for the model with the heatsink is miniscule, as I've seen drives from other brands that cost quite a bit more to have some cheap metal attached with heat tape. Kudos to Crucial for that.

However if you plan on using this drive as a boot drive that is where I would personally have some concerns because as soon as you start attempting to open multiple programs and files at once on the SSD thats where the random needs to kick in and you will see a slight performance drop. Granted to most this test specification will not be noticable to most except to those power users. This is a great drive for gaming and media storage but just do your research about random read/write before committing to using as a boot drive.

I was able to move all of my steam games very quickly from a 2TB HDD to the SSD. Immediately I noticed faster load times in my games. Even the few games I had on a slower 5,500 MB/s loaded noticeably faster. I wouldn’t say it’s leaps and bounds vs the other SSD, but it dominated the HDD.
Outside of gaming it’s easy to recommend this for anyone who moves a lot of large files such as creators who do a lot of video editing or could even be used as a cache drive for a NAS storage solution. The fast transfer speeds can allow for quick loading of videos from a micro SD card as well as let video editing software quickly load files.
Installation can be a bit intimidating if you’re not comfortable with PC components, but most modern PCs and Laptops will take this drive. Installation is as simple as finding a free M.2 slot on your motherboard and slotting the drive and securing it with a screw. It may be a bit more daunting to open your laptop but many manufacturers make upgrading or adding a 2nd drive as easy as popping off the bottom panel. I would have liked to see an included screw for mounting the drive. While most PCs come with an included screw in the slot, I’ve found that some don’t. I wouldn’t recommend installing without one.
It’s also nice knowing that this comes with a 5 year warranty. TRIM support, garbage collection, and other features ensure the drive lasts long and remains reliable for that time frame. I would be surprised if you didn’t get a few more years after the warranty period without any issue. Crucial also has software you can download to upgrade firmware, check drive status and health. It’s intuitive, light weight, and easy to use.

detailedReviews 93: content: Let me just say how much I love how easy this was to install. A few quick youtube videos made this installation so easy. Before I received this product I quickly looked up how to install an internal drive and how to remove the cover and voila! Easy set-up. The instructions give you a website on how to transfer software, the installation guide and firmware optimization, but I used this for our PS5 and it was so easy to install. I received this little drive in a very large package, but it was packed nice and safe. Getting back to the installation, I took the top of the ps5 off (which was a simple secure the corner and slide). I unscrewed the screw for the area where an internal drive goes. Removed the top covering, unscrewed the tiny screw and bolt, placed it in the area closest to where the drive would be (without screwing it in yet) inserted the internal drive, tightened the tiny screw I attached, placed the small cover back on top of the internal drive section and screwed the screw back in. Then I placed the top cover of the PS5 back on, plugged it in and voila it was downloading the drive. When it asks if you want to format your new drive. I clicked yes and it took about less than 5-10 minutes and it was set-up and ready to use. Now I have console storage and internal storage that keeps everything saved on the PS5 and makes it easy to move things back and forth. This is such a huge plus because now we have so much storage space that will keep our ps5 working quickly and efficiently. This was a fast, easy set-up and was not difficult at all.

Fortunately, I can report that these speeds are more than just theory. My testing primarily focused on conducting file transfers operations and observing behavior during gameplay sessions. I found myself impressed with how the drive performed in both areas compared to other comparable Gen 4 SSDs that I own. While gaming, I noticed that the T500 shaved off a few seconds in comparison to my other drives that are in the 5,500 - 7500 MB/s range when it comes to read and write speeds. To top everything off, performance never dipped even after a couple of hours of doing different tasks.
Excellent Thermals: Along with maintaining great performance, the SSD never exceeded 55 degrees Celsius once I applied a heatsink. The T500 managed to stay cool even while I went about gaming and other tasks without breaking a sweat.

I tried the stock 1TB OEM SSD that is a PCIE G4 and the game performance can be choppy at times. The initial logging in can be choppy. I think this is attributed to the drive’s limits. Then I moved onto a high-performance other brand Gaming 2TB PCIE G4 SSD and that added that little extra performance. The system runs smoother overall. The benchmarks were definitely better. Now enter the Crucial T500. When installing the drive, I was not sure how much it could improve. I followed the guides for Disabling Core Isolation in Windows 11. Then I proceeded to play some gaming matches in Forza, Fortnite and GTA 5. The performance seemed a little faster but it was hard to express how much. I did run a synthetic benchmark pictures attached. The speeds are better and worse by a little in some aspect but the drive so far is the best I have used. Crucial is very accurate on the advertised specs. That being said it is still running Windows and all the other things in my tray while this test is run. Pretty impressive. The only other thing that I was looking for was the improved battery life but that was hard to find since this is a powerful gaming laptop running an RTX 4090 so it would be hard to spot. Overall, I am very happy with the performance and the price point of the drive. The only other concern is if one was looking for more performance than waiting for PCIE G5 drives to come out with the 2024 line of notebooks yet to come or being announced currently. I feel like we are at a limit with the spec standard.

After recently installing CoD Modern Warfare III, I found I was starting to hurt for space. The size of some of these games are just getting obscenely large. The cost of 2TB are fairly reasonable compared to 4TB drives. The Crucial T500 with the heatsink shroud is quite solid. I always handled m.2 SSDs quite delicately because I didn't want to risk damaging anything. With this guy I grabbed it out of the packaging and plopped it down next to my on my desk pad and popped open my PS5 and gingerly removed the bare WD M.2 and set it in the Crucial's packaging. I grabbed the T500 installed it in the slot and screwed it down satisfyingly with my finger firmly on top of it. Set the PS5 back in it's home and fired her up. PS5 recognized the drive and formatted it and I began installing those fat games again. Speed wise I saw no appreciable difference between the T500 and the WD. I just had double the space. I like the idea that heat should be better dissipated with the T500's heatsink as opposed to the bare WD M.2. This drive should hold me over until I need to double my storage again at which time I wouldn't hesitate to get another Crucial drive to replace the T500.

Before purchasing, you will want to ensure that your motherboard has an M.2 slot available. And if you already have one solid state drive installed, you will need to check if your motherboard has a second M.2 slot. If you don't have an open/usable slot, there are adapters that can be considered but you will not get the full performance benefits that solid state drives offer. You would likely be better off upgrading your motherboard in a case like that. Installation for me, however, was very smooth and simple as I had an M.2 slot ready and waiting for me.
The difference between using a standard hard drive compared to a solid state drive like this one from Crucial is night and day. Particularly for gaming, I observed a huge difference in load times. Whether you are launching a game, or loading maps / new levels, everything happens significantly more quickly. I can say that I will likely never use a hard drive again, as SSDs are now cost-effective and superior in basically every way. I feel like I'm getting 5-10 minutes back in my day with how much faster everything loads. That time adds up over a year!
If you are looking to expand your computer's storage space AND improve its performance, the T500 from Crucial is a great SSD to consider.

Dug around on the web and discovered that the Crucial T-500 is known for tanking out on large file transfers. My bad for not checking more before purchase. If you deal with large data files, greater than 50 GB that you want to move around this is NOT the drive for you.

detailedReviews 102: content: This is a really nice solid state drive from Crucial. They make good products. This isn't my first Crucial drive and my others are still working fine. I also have used their memory with good results. 2TB is pretty big and should provide quite a bit of additional storage space for large games or whatever you need to store on it.
It appears to be intended for ps5 users with qualifying speeds and heatsink preinstalled. However I chose to install it in my desktop pc to test it with. It says it is also compatible with desktops so I figured it should work and it does work well in it. Not really designed for laptops though since the heatsink makes it a bit bulky for many laptops. They do make one without the heatsink for slightly less money if you want one for your laptop. If you have a larger laptop it might fit but I would opt for the one without the heatsink for most laptops.
Nice looking and simple style with the heatsink if you have a desktop with a window to see it. Mine has a glass side which shows the components inside. The drive doesn't have any lights on it though but it doesn't really need any. If you want lights you will probably have to pay more.
Good price and Crucial quality. Fast and easy to install especially if you have an empty slot to add it to. My desktop supports four m.2 drives and this is number three and it works well.

It is a great size, meaning base file space, and top notch performance. The cons are that the overall size is thick and this prevents the drive from being in laptops or most external drive enclosures. If you plan to use it in a PC with a normal pcie drive slot or the ps5 then it is a great pick. If your motherboard needs to use a special shroud or just looks better with one installed then this may not be a great fit for you or your system. It is a top performer when it comes to performance and the pre-installed heat sink is great for what it does. If you don't need a flatter drive then this is a great pick and you will not be disappointed. Like most if not all drives of this size it did not come with the screw. I always think that is a negative for people. It does not have any RBG features for your computer but just for the PS5 it is the best drive made in my opinion.

detailedReviews 105: content: I decided to install this on a new computer build I was doing. The hard drive so far is performing super well. Prior to this hard drive, I had 2 samsung m2 drives installed, one 960 Evo and one 960 Pro. I ran a few benchmarking programs to get a sense of the difference in the 3 hard drives.
While the samsungs performed pretty good, this Crucial T500 almost doubled the speeds in both directions, in comparison to the other two drives.
After setup I installed some games and ran them to see if the speed felt any better, as well as some video editing softwares. I personally feel this drive has improved the load times of a few of my games and one in particular doesnt seem as laggy as it normally would while running. The performance of my video editing software also feels it is moving with a little more pep than before.

Didn’t really notice a speed bump as my SSD had pretty comparable read/write speeds when moving about 600GB of games and data from the console storage to this SSD. Having the heatsink included is always appreciated.
As I have experience with installing SSD’s, so installing the Crucial T500 was simple and caused no issues.
Haven’t used Crucial’s products prior to this, but in this small sample size it seems quality enough to warrant its price. Only time will tell whether it holds up.
In conclusion, the T500 has been a fine upgrade to my PS5 and should serve me well until the PS6 releases and probably even will move it to the new system. If you haven’t utilized an internal SSD for your PS5, it’ll be a great upgrade for you, but if you’re picking this up just to replace a smaller storage SSD, you’ll probably just enjoy the upgrade in space and not really notice the difference in read/write speeds.

I mean COD Black Ops with all the extra content was 403 GB on my system, this one game alone is almost half the standard PS5 hard drive. This SSD is replacing a 1 TB SSD I installed last year to give me more space. Though at the time I should have went 2TB, I couldn’t justify the price at the time so I went the smaller route. At the time the 1 TB option took care of my issue of not having to erase games to have the space for new ones, but that quickly changed. With having both drives almost filled up, going the 2TB route was a no brainer. The Crucial SSD drive has a maximum write speed of up to 7400 MB/s, when installed in the PS5 it was showing 5600 MB/s which was the same as the drive it replaced. Though I wish the PS5 came with at least 2Gb or really 3 Gb like I have now, I’m glad it takes 5 minutes or less to install a new one. If you want to stop having to erase games to add new ones, the Crucial 2Gb SSD is a great option from a company you know can trust for a quality SSD.

detailedReviews 108: content: I’ve been looking into memory expansion for my PS5 for some time now. Right before getting is Crucial T500, I had to delete some games due to shortage of space.
The installation of the T500 was extremely easy. Of I’ve never done this, it is super easy to do. Just make sure you get the appropriate T500 with integrated heatsink for your gaming system.
Removal of the panel on the PS5 is very easy. You lift a bit and slide the panel off, and it will reveal the SSD slot. Make sure that you don’t drop the screw and locating spacer that is pre-installed on the PS5. Insert it at an angle and slowly press down into place. It’s very easy. There are plenty of YouTube videos on it.
I’ve been able to download a few games on it so far. There have been no issues, or game lag, since installation. With 2tb of space, I’ve got enough room to download enough games to keep me happy for the time being.
The Crucial T500 has a 5 year limited warranty! That is a big plus for me. I would definitely recommend it to anyone.

I was able to reach the max write speed of 7000 megabytes and the max read speed of 7400 megabytes pretty consistently even without a heatsink. This outperformed all of my previous SSDs and has been amazing for gaming. I'm not much of a content creator but I can imagine this would do just as well for video editing.
What comes in the box is just the SSD so make sure you have the right screw to install it on your motherboard. It is one-sided so it was a perfect fit for my laptop and gave zero issues upon installation. It comes with a 5 year limited warranty so I'm not too worried about longevity. Crucial has always been my go-to brand, and this product proves why I keep coming back.
Overall I'm really impressed with this product. It does as advertised and has given zero issues. I may get another 2TB SSD. Or I might wait until they release the 4TB option to fill up the second SSD slot on my laptop. 10/10 reccomend!

Had trouble formatting the 1TB drive as my own purchased Acronis True Image was outdated (i guess), and it kept trying to clone the 500 GB 7200 RPM drive as is, leaving a second partition of 500 GB, so I didn't proceed with the clone. I uninstalled my version and installed Crucial's, but the same thing kept happening. After racking my past-life brain in IT (25 years ago), I thought about formatting the entire drive NTFS and then cloning the 500GB, and that worked! Now, once POST hits, the machine acts just like a laptop; Windows pops up and it's lightning fast! Great purchase!

I was running out of room on my 500GB M.2 SSD so this 2TB added to my computer gives me so much more room. Adding it as a second SSD was quick and easy. It needed formatting and then it was good to go.
Using it as a 2nd SSD, instead of the primary, meant I didn't have to install Windows or do any cloning.
Games take a lot of space to run and I had been putting off getting a few games because I tire of having to decide which to uninstall in order to have room for a new one and repeat when I'm ready to play the old one again. The 2TB on this SSD gives me plenty of room to add those games and space for more in the future.
I highly recommend Crucial SSD's as I've been using them for years in my computers and laptops and have never had a problem. This one, Crucial - T500 2TB Internal SSD PCIe Gen 4X4 NVMe M.2, is blazing fast, the size is great and it's a quick easy install to improve your computer.

I'm using this in my Alienware X17 laptop as a secondary drive and couldn't be happier. It runs fast and stays cool even with long gaming sessions "where my games are stored and the 2tb size gives me plenty of room for lots of games. Now when using with this X17 I did get the compatible heat spreader “with thermal interface material” for the proper installation, and luckily the laptop already had a screw installed in the secondary slot.
Using Crystal Disk Mark 8.0 I easily got 6900+ MB/s read and 6400+ MB/s write speeds, which is really good for a SSD “at this price point” and simply blows away any spindle drive out there.
When you are looking for either expanding on your main storage device or adding “if you have a M.2 slot available” storage space, you can’t go wrong with the drives offered by Crucial.

Since the PC has an E2 slot, I bought a Crucial 1TB SSD card for it. Installation was straightforward, and I used a set of instructions from the internet to transfer the contents of the old boot drive to the SSD. This was also straightforward until I reached the point where I wanted to boot from the SSD. In the end, I unplugged the old boot drive Sata cable and the system booted from the SSD and it was really fast. I then plugged the old boot drive Sata cable back in and it still booted from the SSD.
The down-side is that I never got the Crucial Storage Executive to work (PC came with Raid enabled) and I couldn't get Windows to use the Micron NVMe Driver (it prefers it's own), so it could work even better. But it is so much faster (33 seconds boot time) than it was before so I'm never going back.

However, beware this version of the SSD does not come with a attached heat sink. From what I read it is good to have a heat sink on the Gen 4 PCIe SSDs. My Gigabyte mother board came with a heat sink and a M2 screw. The heat sink from Gigabyte took a little tweaking for it to make contact completely, but that is another story.
I used AOMEI to transfer my data rather than the provided Acronis software from the Crucial web site. Past experience with Acronis has been iffy at best.
Crucial does provide a program call Storage Executive which provides details on the SSDs health including temperature. Mine is running 33 degrees C.

So setup was straight forward. Popped off the back of my predator laptop carefully. I used a star bit put the screws on painters tape for temp storage. Gingerly pried the backing off.of the laptop with a plastic prying tool. Removed the old 500 MB secondary hard drive. Inserted the 2 TB secured it with the screw. Reversed installed the bottom cover and booted the PC back up.
Windows 11... Went to setup hard drives. Recognized the hard drive. Initialized it and I was left with just under 2 TB due to file allocation info...
Went on to test transfer rates... Test folder with file size was just over 12 GB. Micro SD to HD was slow. Probably limited by Micro SD card. But from SDD to SDD... Holy cow..... I was getting almost 2 GB/s. Cover says up to 7.4 GB/s. I did not get there probably because my on board SDD is not rated over 3.
FYI. This 12 GB of data is 4K video from my Vlogging camera. So I know there is a lot of data in these files.
But my 12 GB of data was transferred so fast that I barely was able to click the mouse and take a photo to show the transfer speed I hit.
Opening and playing the video was fine. No lag. No buffering or latency ..
I will use this to store my game play data and my video content that I have or need to create using my video software.
If you are looking for large storage and fast transfer speeds look no further. Good job Crucial .. I would recommend this product for what I reviewed it for.

While the first one worked for storage purposes, it wouldn't work as an OS disk and had to be replaced.
When I received the replacement disk, I couldn't clone my SATA disk on it (Bluescreens after a few minutes and nothing could fix it) but I could do a clean Windows install and now it works perfectly.
Only downside is this tiny issue but it was fixed quickly as the replacement was sent really quickly but other than that everything is great.

I was able to install this into the Asus ROG Ally X with no problems at all. It doesn't get any hotter in the ROG Ally X than the 1TB model it replaced in the ROG Ally X. I would not install this with a heatsink in the Ally X, but just re use the thermal pad that is in the stock Ally X SSD. While there is a bit of room there, you need to get the battery cable on the ROG Ally X over the top of the SSD and if you have a heatsink you may not be able to clear that height.

I was not aware that I would need an M.2 screw to complete the installation. So I had to order the screw and wait to install.
Found hint on Crucial Forum to turn off RAID in BIOS to get PC to recognize SSD. Was blocked for a while before finding this.
Used clonezilla to clone existing HDD to new SSD. Had some problems attempting to boot Desktop with both drives due to id conflicts. Took a while to sort that out.
SSD working fine now and speedup of desktop PC is very good.

I tried contacting with customer service but they were not able to give any plausible solution, only refund/return. Don't get me wrong The SSD works just fine, but don't expect to get the Adobe CC 1mo.
Amazon should try to fix their product description and not include the Adobe CC, this will just make thing misleading and frustrating to the consumers.

The initial process to clone my existing drive was very frustrating and ended up taking several days (started cloning process Friday, no support until Monday morning) and FAQ was of no help.
Once the patched software (which was immediately available, but only after I reported a problem was the patch offered) was provide the cloning worked a advertised. Unfortunately, I spent days retrying; believing something I was doing was in error.
I would not heasitate recommending the product -- with a slight warning.

1) This drive was not detected by Mac Os disk utility at all.
2) There is almost no support for Mac users on Crucial website . The links take me to a useless page. All for windows only.
3) Unlike Samsung Magician, there is no firmware update or disk utility apps available for mac users. If there is any, that is only for Windows users.
Crucial, if you want us to support you, You need to support us.

This is being used in an ASUS Strix Arion external enclosure I use for backups. I did not expect to see any speed increase but I was wrong. It may not be huge, but I went from approx. 1.3GB/Sec to almost 2GB/sec transfer speed. Plus, this NVMe runs MUCH cooler than the 970. Overall a great drive and a great price from B&H Photo. Very fast shipping too.

Update: For some reason the write spead has dropped to 80mb/s. As others have stated, but I ignored, the processing speed is high (not what is claimed) at the start and then quickly decends to less than 90 mb/sec. At first worked as advertised. Now is slower than SATA.
