detailedReviews: detailedReviews 1: content: So Loreal have changed their colour names to begin with.
I always buy 600 Light Brown as I thought I was purchasing from Boots however although the number remains the same as in 600 it no longer called Light Brown, It is now called Dark Blonde and the picture on the front of the box is not the same model.
I did contact Loreal and they advised me that although the name of the shade has changed you should always go by the number that you always use hense this is now Dark Blonde but the colour ia really light brown.
I don't really know why they had to change all the shade names but basically if you usually buy light brown then stick to this new shade.

title: Number change explained, still light brown
detailedReviews 2: content: Just bought this “updated” hair dye in 500 light brown instead of the old 500 medium brown label.
I was dubious after my initial worry about the shade rename and reading some of these reviews. I went ahead and used the dye and just wanted to comment that it is exactly the same colour result as the medium brown. Greys covered.
It says on the packaging that it’s the same but the dye cream colour looks different - that’s true - it’s white instead of the caramel colour so don’t let that worry you.
To summarise, still the same shade of brown on your hair when dyed so if you liked it, stick with it!

detailedReviews 3: content: This is a semi-permanent hair dye that is supposed to last 28 washes.
Everything you need is included in the box: a bottle of developer; creme hair colour tube; conditioning hair mask and gloves. The instructions for use are printed on the inside of the box so cut it open carefully.
The developer is a milky liquid in a bottle and colourant tube is a creamy texture. Pour the creme colour into the developer bottle and mix thoroughly before applying to damp hair.
The nozzle is small to help with application and is relatively precise and mess-free. The dye had a pleasant scent when first applied but during the dying process it did have a slight ‘hair dye’ scent but nothing too strong.
After 30 minutes I rinsed out the dye and applied the hair mask and rinsed again. The conditioning hair mask has gorgeous fragrance.
|I was surprised at how well it completely covered my greys with is being a semi-permanent hair dye. My hair looked very glossy, shiny and black after use and didn’t feel dry.
If you have dry patches on you scalp or hairline then please be mindful that the dye will tend to cling to those dry patches.
I’ve only used this dye once so depending on how well the colour lasts, I would consider buying this in the future.
#ad up-front.
I received this product for free to test and review.

detailedReviews 5: content: I love all the L’Oréal hair dyes I’ve used so far and this is no exception! I regularly dye my hair to cover my grey roots so have become a bit of an expert lol and this is one of the best I’ve used by far! It’s super easy to follow and use doesn’t smell really strong like some tend to do and best of all it covers all my grey! Which is the main thing really, I’ve noticed with some I’ve used in the past they can leave grey hair uncovered but when I used this my whole head was dyed without any grey in sight! Also my hair felt really nourished and soft which I really appreciated cos after using some hair dyes my hair can feel quite dry after but with this one it actually felt more hydrated - very pleased with results and would definitely use and purchase again!

I bought this in the medium brown shade and it's covered all the unwanted tones in my hair and made my hair smoother, softer and thicker. It also smells really nice and is a great consistency and doesn't drip everywhere! Bear in mind that my hair was also bleached so I was half expecting this to look hollow but it looks natural and rich. After dying my own hair for about 10 years now, this is by far the best box dye I've ever used.

detailedReviews 11: content: This is THEE ONLY box hair dye I will use is Lioresal. As a licensed cosmetologist I can tell you many, many, actually MOST box brands are very bad for your hair. I mean no hair color is good for your hair BUT Lioresal gives a product that has healthy vitamins and nutrients in it to restore any damage. It is an amazing brand. The hair dye is beautiful, and they also have an extremly wide variety of other colors and dye products such as highlighters and many others. The hair color truly lasts very long, ot doesn't fade and it is true to color. It doesn't take even an hour to dye just 20 to 30 min. Depending on the outcome you want, personally. The instructions explain everything very well and it's extremly easy to just add together, extremly easy to apply. Doesn't have that super harsh chemical smell most box dyes have. The after ward wash n conditioner is amazing, leaves your hair with a beautiful shine and even adds volume. I think this is the best brand as far as store bought box brand hair dyes go. Like I said, they're the only one I use, it's a very wonderful and trustworthy company and the results are proof enough!! You'll save TONS of money for the same look if not better and healthier, and even longer lasting. They're all priced at a very affordable price and if you have never tried it or any of their products, I highly recommend that you do, L'Orea Parisl is an all around innovative, trustworthy, high-quality for low prices, just an amazing company and brand. I would recommend any and all of their products to anyone and everyone out there. They are truly an amazing company, you can always count on effective and wonderful results with all of their products, in al most 36 years I've NEVER come across any bad expiierences with any their products, and I've used SEVERAL!!!!

detailedReviews 12: content: For the past 30 years, I've paid to have my hair colored in a salon. Lately the salon treatment is no longer in my budget. So, I decided to give this product a try (based on comments, reviews, and price). I was terrified, because I have never colored my hair myself. I couldn't be more pleased. The product was easy, easy, easy to use, only requires 30 mins wait time, comes with a conditioner that leaves my hair sooo soft and natural feeling, covers all gray, lasts 7-8 weeks, and I love the color. I ended up using 2 colors to achieve the exact color I wanted (Golden Brown and Medium Auberne). I highly recommend this product for ease of use, soft natural looking hair, longevity, and price. Now I just have to figure out how to do highlights. Beautiful color, won't regret. Easy to use, easy instructions, didn't cause any irritation. Great product from a reliable company.

The smell is not bad and once you rinse your hair and apply the shampoo that included in the box. This shampoo smells amazing. And my hair is so shiny and smooth. The conditioner works great as well but this is not new as the conditioner can be found in another Loreal hair color products too, so I’m not that excited. This one adds nice warm pearly tones definitely more warm than cooled toned on my hair which leans very much towards warm tones. I love how easy they are to apply they don't drip and after using the conditioner it's always super soft, shiny and surprisingly not dried out. I have been using casting for years in many different shades and once you stick to the hair colour it's recommended for always get a great result. As it's a semi permanent it's not going to drastically change hair colour and it washes out after a few weeks. This shade helps condition my dried out bleached hair without any further damage.

I like that it’s semi permanent, hopefully this means it’ll lighten up after a few washes and my hair is very shiny now. However I will say the red shines through A LOT. So if you’re looking to cover a ginger/red I’d definitely advise going for something else because once the sun hits it’s like an explosion of red.

title: Covered greys and highlights, soft hair
detailedReviews 25: content: I have been getting highlights in my black hair for the past year. I mostly wanted a natural balayage sort of look but I kept coming out of the hairdressers like I was 70% blonde.
To even out the contrast I decided to using the casting gloss. The light brown 600 was the lightest I could find in my store. I was a little worried from the reviews that a) my highlights would become very dark/black again and b) my black roots would be disaterously bleached. I chatted with the online agent, Sarah and she gave me confidence that the gloss would be perfect to achieve the even colour I wanted. She did suggest I find a shade lighter to start but I wasn’t able to swap.
I used the 600 light brown and it worked really well! I did an all over application and didn’t leave it in for the full time (maybe 10-15 after full application- I also think it took me at least 20 to apply so am not really sure how that all works). I can see a few days later that it is getting lighter so perhaps I could’ve left it on longer, but I’m really happy that my blonde streaks are coming through as a light brown now! I can’t stop looking at it, it has so much more natural depth and tones. I am very happy
I’ve attached a few photos, my hair before (sorry only had that dog pic), my hair estimation from the online colour thing (clearly inaccurate) and my hair now, 3 days post dye

detailedReviews 29: content: I always come back to Casting Creme Gloss, even after 10 years of permanent dyes and getting semi-permanent colour at the hairdressers. The price is great value, and when doing my roots I only need one box. If you have long/thick hair and dying for the first time, I'd recommend getting 2 and there is typically an offer/
I have medium brown hair, and have always chosen auburn brown and dark brown colours with no issues. I much prefer semi permanent as I feel your roots aren't as obvious and also your hair isn't being bleached like a typical permanent box dye. My hair actually feels like I've applied a mask after washing off the dye and using the provided conditioner. The conditioner scent/key ingredient has changed over the years and I personally love the current honey scent.
When doing my roots, I apply this myself and don't find it to be more messy then you would expect (when applying dark dye with no support). I just part my hair with my fingers and ensure to apply all over my roots, rubbing in like a shampoo, wait the recommended time then use the rest to pull down towards my ends.
Chocolate Brownie has been my shade for the last year, a gorgeous brown with auburn sheen. Avoid if you don't like orange/red tones.

detailedReviews 36: content: Strange this is labelled and shown as a medium brown colour and yet it is actually a dark plum/mahogany brown. When I first started applying it to my roots I noticed it looked a bit purple and immediately washed it off in abit of a panic! Glad I did as then checked the reviews on here and some others confirmed their outcome. That was £10 down the drain for me. Have used this product before (other shades which were quite accurate) and it’s generally a great product but this particular colour is completely wrong and misleading and should be recalled.

detailedReviews 37: content: L’Oreal Paris Excellence Creme in a dark shade covers gray hair perfectly and gives a rich, even color. At 42, hair care is important to me, and this dye with its nourishing components leaves my hair soft and shiny. The color lasts long without fading, and the application process is comfortable, without irritating the scalp. I’m very happy with the result and quality.

detailedReviews 38: content: Had to review this product because I have been using it for many years to color my mother’s hair. She has grey hairs and we use this to cover her greys and keep her hair looking fresh and shiny. My mom has very thin and oily hair. This has always kept her hair healthy. Never dried it out or made it look like she’s even processed it in any way. Always looks very natural and did I mention that it covers her very stubborn grey (really white) hairs? She lives it and I love bonding with her through the process which is a very easy process and this comes with everything you will need in the box. You get to protect the hair with the first step, color the hair with the mixture, and they even provide a conditioner for after which leaves the hair shiny but it doesn’t weight he hair down. I part my moms hair in 4 equal parts. Two on the top, two on the bottom. I begin with evenly distributing the product around her front edges first to cover that great and go from root to mid on each section. After about 20 minutes we bring the color to the ends. Always blends great and no patchiness. So great duo for this one

The colour washes out slightly at the end to show a nice brownish tint in the sun but is very dark right after application. If its too dark I recommend shampooing and rinsing again. detailedReviews 40: content: After nearly 3 months since I used the liquorice hair dye for the first time my hair is still much darker than my natural brown hair. I have pale skin and fearing these dark shades would wash me out I found they actually gave me a healthy complimenting glow. I first tried out the ebony black within this range and although I loved the colour it faded quite extremely after the fourth wash, this colour however did not!! After nearly 3 months I’m getting close to reapplying this hair dye which is the specific time frame you are supposed to wait between dyes so this colour has definitely done what it says on the box!
This shade is about 2 or 3 shades darker than the ebony and although it’s not as dark now compared to when I first dyed it, it’s still a dark, dark brown. I have curly hair and haven’t found these products to cause any damage or drying and I’m hoping as I continue to use this hair dye these results will continue!
Added tips, I wash my hair with cold water and only use shampoo and conditioner for coloured hair, I try not to let my hair drip to much and only keep it under the water for as long as I need. I also use a heat spray and uv spray and these have definitely helped with keeping the results for longer. I will say I didn’t use all these tips until a week or two after first using the ebony so maybe that contributed to why it faded much quicker. If you want a black/ brown colour go with ebony, if you want a true dark, blue black go with liquorice I know I’m sticking with it for the long run!

detailedReviews 41: content: I have used 600 Light brown for around 7 years. However, the colours have suddenly changed their numbers: 600 Dark blonde and 500 Light brown with no explanation of which to use. I tried 500 Light brown but it is actually a very unnatural dark brown and made me look ill for around 3 weeks. I tried 600 Dark blonde and it is closer to the original light brown colour however it washed out very quickly within 3 weeks whereas it used to last 5-6 weeks. It also no longer covers my grey hairs which remained visible from day 1. My hair basically now looks dark blond after 3 weeks, sort of a gingery colour as that is my undertone not at all what i wanted or what Castings used to provide. The hair dye has basically changed and is no longer as good as it used to be, the colours are not what are shown on the box. I have tried several different boxes now with the same result. Extremeley poor service from Loreal to make such as dissappointing change to their formula but more importantly to not inform their customers. There must be thousands of women out there walking around confused with their hair a different colour to what they expected.

detailedReviews 42: content: I’ve always dyed my hair red for years and I’ve recently been wanting to grow my natural hair dark and long and thick, and I’ve been really interested in buying a hair gloss because my hair is also a bit damaged and I wanted to bring back some shine to my hair too. I bought this because it claimed to be really healthy and also give your hair some gloss to it too and I wanted to dye my red hair back to the dark colour my hair naturally was. I must say it’s not like other hair dyes that I have tried. I bought the shade 300, it didn’t have a really strong chemical smell to it, it didn’t burn my scalp as I let it sit in my hair and it washed out very easily. As I washed my hair it felt sooo soft! The conditioner included smelt like honey and it still lingers in my hair. After I washed my hair out I used my Dyson airwrap to straighten my hair and my hair feels really soft and shiny and it doesn’t look damaged at all!! I really love this hair dye so much and that’s why I’m taking the time to write this out. I told myself that I want to grow out my natural hair long and healthy and I want to stop using dyes as my hair has thinned out quick a bit from the hair dyes over the past few years and the chemicals have damaged my hair too and I’m only 19 so I don’t want to lose my hair quite young, I must say my hair looks very healthy and shiny. I would love to use this hair dye again (even though I’ve told myself I won’t use any hair dyes). It’s amazing!! I bought one for my mum too and I would never let her use something that I didn’t like myself, I only like to buy the best for her. I think it’s worth a try for anyone wanting to use a hair dye for themselves!!!

detailedReviews 43: content: I’ve spent the last couple of months lightening my dark brown hair (my natural colour) to a gingery orange which I did really effectively with the Olia bleach. I even had some blonde streaks so my hair had lifted to a really good blank canvas that this dye should have evened out.
In its defence it most certainly evened out the tones in my hair but I am so disappointed as it made my hair relatively dark again when that was what I was trying to lift out. The red tones on the box are definitely there when the light hits it, I’ve only freshly done it there now so I’ve yet to see how it looks in natural light. The tone is really rich and like a red chestnut brown but by no means is it the colour on the box. My bleached hair was closer to the colour on the box so this is misleading. The quality of the dye is nice I’ve never had trouble with this line before it’s quite nourishing and my hair has a great shine, but the colour is inaccurate. Seems a lot of people feel the same way. Don’t go with this if you’re looking for light toned amber. Do if you want a natural reddish brown. But….theres other dyes intended for reddish brown. Misleading and disappointed but the quality is good.

detailedReviews 44: content: I have been using Castings for years and Universal Nudes. There is a definite difference in this new formula that ok really do not like and find too worrying to continue to use. On application the dye when developing turned a distinctive green colour. Although my hair didn't turn green it certainly was not as shiny etc as the previous formula in fact it was quite drying. I tried it again just in case it was a one off problem and the same thing happened. I have been using the same 603 shade for years so I have not dramatically changed hair colour. I will not chance using it again. Please revert to the original ingredients. Although loreal insist it is the same it certainly doesn't react the same therefore sadly I will have to find an alternative.

When I went to buy the Light brown this time I noticed that the colour number had changed, but I knew the colour I get is the Light Brown, not dark blonde (which is the new name for the 600). There should have been a note to say stick with your old no. ignore the new names. I now have hair much darker than I would like and it will take months to get it back to the colour I would like. Your specialist said I can wash my hair like a mad thing to get the darkness out, but it's not really a viable option. detailedReviews 46: content: I had been happily using Casting for 20 years+ on my naturally warm mid brown hair and usually the reds were my favoured shades. A year or so ago I decided to become more copper - so I used 'Amber' every 4 weeks for around 9 months, which was always initially too purply straight after colouring but it faded through the perfect shade before becoming slightly brassy (especially in the sun). I switched to 'Amber Honey' recently which was lovely initially but after 3 washes my roots were noticeably a dusty orange. I repeated it after 2 weeks and the same thing happened again. I've since tried 'Chestnut Honey'.....day1 = very happy and my hairdresser complimented me on it, but one week (3 washes) on its become a definite ginger shade which in bright sunlight looks hideous (because it looks dyed orange- especially at the sides where I have more grey and the colour takes in a far more obvious way!) I feel my next shade might have to be a boring mid brown to neutralise the orange tones before I contemplate my next move.

detailedReviews 47: content: I have been a long term user of Casting Medium Brown. The colour has always been great and true to my hair colour…until the formula change! Now medium brown has disappeared and the replacement light brown ( same number) is nothing like the original medium brown. After a very short time and very few washes my hair colour changes to a much lighter gingery tone. Awful!! Grey reappeared at roots followed by a light ginger colour which takes some time to disappear. Indeed requires to be grown out ( like a permanent) and cut or re coloured. So disappointing. Now I will have to look to a replacement colour from a competitor. Like another review I would have given 0 stars if I was able to do so.

detailedReviews 48: content: Like others who have written here, I am not happy at all with the new formula. The pigments are simply not the same colour as before, and however much L'Oreal might like to dispute this, they are 100% wrong.
In addition, and this is much more serious, this changed formula causes my skin to itch like crazy for weeks afterwards, especially in places where skin rubs against itself such as the navel and top side of elbow.
I used the old formula for years and years, so I do know that there is a difference. I was perfectly happy before. I am not now, but really don't know what to use instead. L'Oreal can deny what everyone says as much as they like, but their new formula is not as good and is potentially dangerous due to the skin reaction I have noted above.

I ordered some more expecting to be satisfied with the product and results, as usual
Unfortunately, L'Oreal have changed the formula - and renamed it 454 Goji Brown - and it is not as good as before ie
- different colour
- coverage not as good as before
- conditioner not as rich
- didn't disguise sparse grey at the crown
I would caution those who have used this before to be aware of these changes.
I'm going to go looking for another colour manufacturer to try and recreate the old results that I loved from Chocolate Brownie sigh :(

After using this “amber” dye I have dark brown hair with a tinge of purple-ish red. It is significantly darker than my natural hair colour and won’t budge even after several washes. I’ve never dyed darker than my natural in my life. This is hideous and completely completely different from what shown on the box. This one only takes 20 mins and the instructions are printed on the inside of the box to reduce paper waste. Easy to use. Has blended in my greys as a lighter colour, not fully covered, but less noticeable. Has left my hair very silky and soft. Not over keen on the fragrance of the hair mask.

title: Not over keen on fragrance of hair mask
detailedReviews 69: content: I previously posted a review about this hair colour and wanted to write an update.
In between appointments with my hairdresser i decided to refresh my hair colour as it had faded. I chose amber red as this was the closest match. My hair went brown!
After 12 days of 2-3 washes a day in washing up liquid or head and shoulders, plus my normal shampoo by fudge, the colour is slowly washing out but is likely to need stripping to get it back to the colour it was.
I wrote to L’Oréal several times before I received a response. They said…”
The colours on the box are based on natural hair, not artificially coloured hair. Artificially coloured hair will interfere with the shade outcome, especially when using a semi permanent shade over a permanent colour”
So… if your hair is artificially coloured, even if the shade you are trying to reach is similar to the one on the box, YOU WILL HAVE NO IDEA what colour you will achieve? Lesson learned…always do a strand test or better still, stick with your hairdresser.
There are lots of other reviews on this product that are all saying the same as me. I wish I read them before I had used it,
L’Oréal have clearly not listened to the poor reviews and judging by their response to me, I’m left wondering if they even care. I’ve received no apology and no guidance on what to do. I don’t know what is worse, the completely unexpected vile hair colour or the complete lack of care from L’Oréal.

title: Hair went brown, L'Oreal doesn't care
detailedReviews 70: content: Firstly, this is not a hair DYE. (This is just some information to help anyone who hasn't used this product before). For anyone who wants a dramatic colour change or for greys to be coveted totally: you won't get it from this. As it doesnt lift colour, It just adds a colour gloss to the hair strand.
It just blends the grey in more to the colour you already have, to conceal it more, not to get rid of it & totally cover it. This is first and foremost a hair gloss, which is meant to give the hair a gloss finish with a hint of colour. Glosses either stay at the same level as your hair, it changes the undertones warmer or cooler slightly or it darkens the colour. But it cannot bleach or change the colour dramatically.
As someone who prefers hair glosses to hair dyes, I have used alot in the past and will never use hair dyes again. Glosses are so much less damaging and are great for a refresh of colour.
As a gloss, this brand was excellent. My hair felt healthy, soft, smooth and looked shiny.
I have got the warm tones from this chocolate colour, however I has come out a few shades darker than I hoped. This states its a level 5, but looks more like a level 3.
Which is fine, but not the colour level that I was looking for. The application was East, no mess, no unpleasant smell. I only needed 1 box. However, I was only doing the top layer of my hair, I always buy 2 boxes just in case.
I will definitely buy this brand again but I will experience with different colours. Lighter ones and warmer ones

Many compliments I've had over the years on the wonderful looking colour. Now I only have 3 boxes left after I stocked up quickly when the colour was taken out of production. Please help and bring this colour back on the market as It's the only one for me (and many others too once you read the comments!).

detailedReviews 72: content: Been using this hair dye for years and have always been really happy. Got confused looking for medium brown now though as it is now called 500 Light Brown. Be careful as it is not , it is medium brown. Their new conditioner does not work for my hair. It left it frizzy and hard to style. The previous honey conditioner was so much better. I wish they had left the previous hair dye alone .

One thing I'd like to add is that the instructions are on the inside of the box so take care when opening the box to keep the instructions intact. The formula provides good coverage and lasts well. The conditioner provided smells amazing and you get alot of product so can be used more than once, definitely recommend to anyone wanting to try a new hair colour without the commitment of it being permanent.

detailedReviews 74: content: As a natural redhead with fine and coarse copper/auburn hair, that is now also sprinkled with white/silver coarse hairs, I’ve been at a loss as what to do. Most boxed “red” hair-dye’s are for people with brown or dark hair not naturally red. I’ve tried a few brands/shades before but the colour washes me out as other reds have been to mahogany or too pale. This one though in Amber still allows my natural copper hues to shine through so although it’s definitely darkened my hair to a more browned auburn I still look like me. It’s covered the worst of my unwanted sparklies quite well but not 100% but it’s made me feel more confident. I worried too that a red dye would turn my white hairs pink but it hasn’t. Where the colour hasn’t taken so well, around my face, is lighter like highlights which I quite like actually as my natural hair colour is multi faceted so again, it helps with looking more natural on me. Please don’t stop stocking this shade as although the “red hair trends” come and go, a good proportion of us have naturally red hair and will always need this just to cover our white hairs without it being a fad. I matter too and find a lot of companies aren’t diverse enough or cater for me. Thanks!

detailedReviews 75: content: I have been using Loreal Casting Crème Gloss to dye my hair ever since I was in my teens! There are so many things I like about this product.
Firstly for reference - my hair is long, curly, and naturally a light brown shade. I have used Loreal Casting Crème Gloss in the shades Light Brown and Medium Brown, so those are the two I'll review here.
All the shades in the range are super easy to apply, and I love how each pack comes with everything you need for easy application. These dyes are semi-permanent too, so they're perfect for when you want a change of colour on a whim without the long-term commitment. The dye does stain things easily though, so be careful to not get any on nice towels, carpet, etc.
Light Brown is the perfect shade for when I'm wanting to 'go dark' for a while - it turns my light brown hair into a gorgeous dark brunette with lovely shine. I would definitely recommend this shade for any lighter haired ladies wanting to go darker without it being too much.
Medium Brown I found was a bit too harsh for my pale skin tone and already light hair - it came out very dark, almost black. Because of the tone it took a long time to wash out as well, although it did eventually.
Overall love this range and will probably keep buying it whenever I feel like a refresh!

title: Disappointed, didn't change my colour
detailedReviews 82: content: I bought and used this dye sometime last year and have used it a few times since. I purposefully bought this because it was semi-permanent and knew that I'd want to change up my hair again soon enough so I didn't want anything too permanent to allow for this. After 3 months and way past 28 washes later, my hair was still the same colour and did not fade one bit. I ended up using this again for my roots and again after that.
Now the problem occurred over this past weekend when I finally decided its time for a change so I bought a hair stripper and the permanent nutrisse ginger hair colour which is supposed to work even on dark brown and black hair. I used the hair stripper.....the colour did not come out. I then proceeded to dye my hair the following day....bright ginger roots and practically black hair! This colour would absolutely not budge what so ever.
I figured that I did my best and Id just go back and get my usual dye being this one but in a slightly lighter colour (chocolate brown)......well, I ended up having an allergic reaction where my scalp was red raw and bleeding. Turns out the time before I had a milder reaction to it but I have a sensitive scalp anyway so I didn't think it was a reaction.
Anyway, the point is this is a great dye if you don't want it to come out. It is very conditioning and doesn't dry your hair out, but be careful and definitely test it before using it! I personally will not be using this dye anymore but it is a good dye if you don't care to wash it out.

detailedReviews 85: content: I was looking for an ashy light colour and went for 713 after looking at the darker colours. Glad I did as this came out very much darker than shown on the box
Which I thought might happen as I have alot of ginger for the ash tone to cling too
It has a golden hue
It has slightly lightened my roots which I dont mind
I only left it on for about 12-15 minutes
It stains anything it touches including the bath . Im sure it’ll bleach out
It’s covered greys well and covered alot of the herbal dye ginger residue
I hope it fades nicely and the ash tone stays I’ll use it again if it doesn’t completely wash out . I think it’ll be a very different colour on natural blonde hair as I have a white streak and thats more of a dark ash blonde now
The rest of my hair is quite dark but its done what I needed and my hair looks more blended now
I didn’t use the conditioner as my hair is low porosity and its better to stick to conditioners I know it likes and I know wont make it coated and waterproof. I added argan oil and left my conditioner on for about 5 minutes and rinsed out then added a leave in conditioner spray a leave in blowdry cream and some more oil . I air dried and then sprayed and styled a little with a low heat blowdry brush
My hair feels moisturised after doing this
I’ll wash it in a couple of days

Now, I’m not an expert in colour theory, but I wondered how the heck a cool, purple based dye was going to produce a warm, orangey amber colour like the one on the box. Short answer: it doesn’t. detailedReviews 88: content: The box colour is misleading BUT this is why you need to pay attention to the numbers on the box also. If you are looking for a light red/ strawberry blonde or light ginger then do not go below a 7, it will be too dark for you. This colour has a brown / chestnut aspect to it so will be a touch darker. Personally I love the colour, I have naturally mid brown hair with lots of blonde balayage that had grown out, I wanted to go a bit darker / warmer for autumn as my grown out bleached balayage was a bit yellow and my natural brown roots have a warm tinge to them and I wasn’t loving it. I thought about going back to brown but I know that when you put brown onto blonde it can do green / too ashy so decided on auburn. This looked very red on the box but I knew over my natural mid brown it would be muted and it has come out so lovely, a nice light chesnut colour and then more coppery over where the bleach was and my money pieces at the front so looks like a copper balayage. Left my hair extemelt soft too. I left it on roots first for 15 and then pulled it through the ends for the last 5 minutes. Great colour on me.

detailedReviews 90: content: I have dyed my hair every color out there so I'm pretty confident with dye colors. This shade was one of my many reds. This shade is very very bright, pigmented. The first time I used it on light blonde hair and my hair came out pretty much Fire Truck RED. Too BOLD! Then I started using it with 1/2 the color and all developer. Much nicer but still vibrant shade. I just bought extra developer at Sally's (volume 20) since that's the level that comes in the box set. A pretty Copper shade but a bit too bold. Too bold to look realistic. I recommend using 1/2 colorant or mixing with a light brown color to tone it down a bit. My favorite red was from sally's Ion color mixing light golden blonde 9G with 1/2 medium coper brown (5RB or 5CB). Pretty. L'oreal preference has some nice reds as well that aren't as bold as Feria brand. This color is VERY VIBRANT RED so I myself will not repurchase but overall Feria L'Oreal Paris Excellence Creme Hair Color, Red Penny 7R (Packaging may vary) dye is ok. detailedReviews 91: content: I've been using this hair colour for maybe 10 years and realised I need to post a review. To clarify: L'Oreal Casting 1010 PERMANENTLY lightens hair. If you closely at the packet for nearly all the other colours of Casting, you'll see that underneath the large pink box, it says 'Lasts up to 28 shampoos'. On the 1010 packet, it doesn't say this and it says on the side of the box that it 'lightens hair'. So what happens with 1010 is that it lifts your natural colour (bleaches it) by several shades, and adds blonde tones all over. What is permanent is the lightening, what is semi-permanent is the added colour. What will happens it that the initial colour will fade and you'll be left with lightened roots that will need retouching. Which is easy - you just buy 1010 again and follow the instructions for previously coloured hair. Having used this product so many times, I'm a big fan but it should be made clearer that the lightening effect is permanent. Hope that helps anyone trying to decide which colour to buy!

detailedReviews 96: content: I've used Casting Creme Gloss for years. I used to use their lovely brown/golden 810 Pearl Blonde (which they don't do anymore, it's now just white blonde...) to blend in my natural mousey brown colour and salon blonde highlights in-between appointments. When they stopped doing it I just went to the salon and put highlights over highlights as I noticed more and more greys creeping in. Lockdown over the past year has made me realise just HOW MANY GREYS I actually have!! EEP. My hairdresser saved me in the Autumn with a warm brown as I fancied a changed from the blonde, but then with the second lockdown over the Winter, I couldn't go back to get my roots done and my old blonde highlights combined with greys covering my scalp just got me down. I picked this colour as it's similar to the one my hairdresser used and the colour is pretty spot on to the box. Nice and shimmery in the light and a warm chocolate brown with no warmth, even on my highlights. However, I'm still haunted by these rotten old springy greys. They're still all over my scalp, so no grey coverage unfortunately. Probably not for greys, but great for a colour change. I highly recommend these colours for those just looking for an all-over consistency and slight colour change between appointments.
