Immediate reaction when starting my first game was to pause and make sure the game I was playing wasn't Fifa 16 because the graphics were so grainy and poor on my 65" 4k tv. They appear to only have worked on cutscene graphics. I'm a career mode traditionalist and the career mode hasn't changed at all. Basically two improvements (player position change and customized training/rest schedules) but other than that nothing. Gameplay lacks any creativity or tact. I progressed through difficulties and even with Ultimate difficulty every game ends 5-4 and defenders don't do anything at all. AI teammates still run away from loose balls. I haven't tried Ultimate team yet because I refuse to waste anymore time playing it. Every time I finish playing I wonder why I just wasted hours torturing myself. EA sucks.

Some of you are probably wondering why I even bought it, most probably question themselves however I chose it for a few reasons to play against my brother who is in a different country and because I changed from PS4 Pro to Series X which on the PS I played the life out of PES 20 and with them only releasing a season update for PES21 (kits etc) i thought no I’ll wait like they have chose too... it’s on GamePass but sadly on Xbox you cannot get the “patch” for correcting things if you know what I mean ;) but after playing this lastest FIFA that will not bother me at all. Pes gameplay and manager mode are miles ahead.
In my opinion you only get fifa for FUT because it really isn’t a football sim, it’s extremely arcade like.

The second issue is the gameplay, as the AI does not seems to work so well in the defence department. This means that it is almost impossible to end a match without conceding any goals. Finally, I still have not been able to work out how to play the proper World Cup, or UEFA League, or the South American cups, as was widely advertised. In a summary, this game seems to be a good two steps backwards when compared to FIFA2, which I much prefer to play today.

I myself wouldn't pay full price for such a blatant cash-grab but my 7 year old son wanted to spend his pocket money on it even though we have been swindled as described the last 2 years, but as that is all he has ever known he is fine with it. At least this year it was only £36 instead of a pretty much full price game, so some acknowledgment from EA that what they are up to isn't worth the money. Especially given even the updated squads arent even that up to date (no Dias for Man City for example), but nothing that cant be fixed manually, and to be fair probably just down to limited timescales as a result of the pandemic. I know some official publications are giving it scathing reviews purely for the laziness alone but in fairness, if you haven't played a FIFA game on the Switch before it is still a pretty good stab at it considering it is basically a portable version, so I cant justifiably score it less than 3. Just dont expect any advancements from the Xbox 360 days, and to be honest if you aren't that fussed about updated squads and kits you're better off getting 20, or even 19, for a steal.
