detailedReviews: detailedReviews 1: content: My old iPhone11 reached a point where it would no longer charge, so I bought the iPhone 16 to replace it. To be honest, it is mostly the same as my old phone with a few less desirable exceptions.
I haven’t tried some of the newer features (like Apple Intelligence) so really can’t comment on them. There are a couple of annoying physical features that bother me, though. I had to disable the dedicated camera button on the bottom right side, because it is way too easy to hit it unintentionally. I also don’t care for the “silence” button, which used to be a small switch on older phones. It’s easy to mistake it for the “volume up” button, which is a pain. I imagine that it’s possible to disable it the same way that I did with the camera button, though. Nonetheless,I preferred the switch.
I am also not too pleased with Apple’s decision to change the power input from the lightning cord to USB-C. This ensured that literally none of my old cables could be used with my new phone, although that may have been Apple’s intention to begin with. [EDIT: I have since learned that they switched to the USB-C port to comply with a European trade agreement, or something of that nature].
One other problem I’m having is with the wired headphones that I prefer to use during phone calls. I specifically bought a USB-C to 3.5 mm adaptor for that purpose, but quickly discovered that the person on the other end couldn’t hear me. This was never a problem with my iPhone 11. Yes, I know everyone is going wireless these days, but I don’t like iPods because a) I can’t get the same degree of sounds isolation, and b) they constantly fall out of my ears. It doesn’t make any sense that simply plugging my adaptor into the charge/headphone port would mute the receiver, but that’s exactly what is happening.
Before this starts sounding too negative, I like the fact that my new phone connects to the Bluetooth in my car much more quickly than it did on my old phone. It also allows me to quickly switch between app screens without having to swipe up & right. Additionally, I’m curious about the iMovie app that came preinstalled, as I’ve considered recording video for my YouTube channel. I will therefore give the iPhone 16 the benefit of the doubt, as I’ve only had it for a week now, and will probably find helpful new features moving forward.

I noticed that both the iPhone 15 and iPhone 16 overheat quite quickly compared to my old XR that didn’t heat as fast nor as hot. Especially during games when you can feel the screen becoming hot. I feel as though the volume increases too quickly if that makes sense? Like for every one press of my button would lead to a one unit increase for my XR but for the iPhone 16 every one press of my button leads to a 3 unit increase in volume. I do enjoy that it sounds louder than my XR but you can’t get the volume to exactly level you want even if you use the slider. My XR Siri would also be able to hear and respond from much further away while this one never works when you say “hey siri” which I’m used to and rarely replies to “Siri” from the same distance I could with my XR. Other than these two issues and a common complaint of the photo app layout (which can easily be changed), I would say the Iphone 16 is an improvement to the XR; battery works longer and charges much faster and I really enjoy the side button for faster access allowing you to take photos without losing the moment. I also enjoy the display of shortcuts when swiping down from the top right corner. It makes everything more convenient and easier to access as it has three display screens. One for the usual shortcuts, one for music and one for more specific shortcuts that can also be accessed from the first display. Of course the camera is much better than the XR, I thought I wouldn’t like the two cameras instead of the one camera or three but it looks better in person. I was also surprised to find out about the matte back of the phone. I think it’s plastic but I actually really like it as it won’t crack requiring less repairs. I also enjoy that the ringer on/off switch was replaced with a button. Instead of having to check the side of your phone you can just press the button to see if it is on/off on your screen and also has a shortcut with the rest of the shortcuts. One other feature I think is a great improvement is when you receive a alarm on your phone or a call it doesn’t take up the whole screen when you are watching a video or playing a game. It shows up in the top left corner where you can accept or turn off without disrupting your video or game. Overall, I think the iPhone 16 is good and has some improvements to the iPhone XR however there are some inconveniences depending on your needs. I would rate it a 7/10 as it is a good phone but definitely some improvements that can be made to make it better :)

detailedReviews 3: content: After the rave reviews I read about this specific device, I decided to give it a chance. It is a very beautiful, quality device that without a case fits incredibly well in the hand, while with a case it feels like any other iPhone. Incredibly fast, with the screen being very good. Of course, anyone who is used to 120hz should better avoid it. The camera takes particularly good photos, and if you play a bit with the undertones, they become EPIC day and night. I won't even comment on the video. I got used to the capture button in 5-6 days and use it many times, but I could live without it. My only complaint is that the phone hasn't "settled" perfectly yet, with a few silly bugs that will be smoothed out in a little while (I bought it in October). Apps load instantaneously, with the 8gb ram the phone flies. The battery, classically iPhone, you charge it at night, with heavy use it will charge during the day as well. The speakers also impressed me with how good they are. Now, if someone has the 11, as I did, with a good battery, it's better not to upgrade. The differences are small for the average user of social media, camera, light gaming. And the iOS is much more "settled" on the 11, 0 bugs. Otherwise, wait until spring when Apple intelligence will come and generally until iOS "settles." For me, at the same price, it was worth much more than the 15 plus, but if it were convenient for me, I would go straight to the 15 pro. Conclusion: whoever looks to find flaws will find them (60hz screen, etc.), but generally a very powerful device that will last for years. Again, if 120hz is not an issue for you, I highly recommend it.

So for about £200 less than I paid for that, I've gotten a slightly bigger screen, all the modern internal changes you'd expect for a new device and my favourite of all: the significantly better battery life!
The downsides? Apple Intelligence is pathetic. I have found it to be a niche feature that I just don't use.
Unfortunately the other big update to this year's model is the camera control button. It's just not very good. It has additional functionality but unless you really want a phone that focuses more heavily on camera features, it's just not that useful. If you are, I recommend you look at the iPhone 16 Pro line.
But for me, it takes pictures randomly when I take my phone out of my pocket due to its placement. Like, it really is just not very good.
Alright what else is there? Oh colours! The new colours are very vibrant! I went for the Teal model and I like it a lot and the storage options is also more flexible for me too (my last came in only 64Gb or 256GB).
So in short, it's a solid phone upgrade if you need to make it. The battery improvements are great. But if you want some of these new features like AI, I'd say skip the iPhone 16 and wait a year.

Very easy to set up from my old phone; I put them next to each other, started the process off, and left them to it. Good camera, though I tend to use only the basic camera functions and so may not be the best judge. Not sure if I will use the new camera control button. Am still a bit hazy about what Apple Intelligence can do for me, but I've played around in the Playground app and it will rewrite text that you've written in a specified style which may be something I can use. Excellent service from John Lewis with the £50 price reduction, two year guarantee, and next day click and collect.

AT&T does not make it obvious that the ability to use a second eSIM is intially restricted. This is until the phone is paid off *and* not until 6 months after purchase. So if you have a second account for business, for overseas, etc., you are stuck in either not being able to trade-in your old phone (making the purchase much more costly) or having to use a second old or cheap phone for the second account.
This restriction is burdensome and too restrictive and AT&T needs to change this policy.

So I did some research and the baseline 16 seems to be the way to go at the moment. Some immediate observations: the camera is so much nicer. The pictures are clearer, the zoom is way better, and the operations are all much snappier. Taking a portrait shot went from a missed opportunity to a terrific photo. The action button is a nice tough, I locked that as a flashlight - I lost the physical button silent mode option, but I rarely used that anyways. Face ID also seems quicker, too. Less of an upgrade, the Dynamic Island is fine, nothing too exciting there. The camera button as a “click to open camera” is definitely nice, but the placement is awkward for landscape shots, and I would never use the haptic editing options - too cumbersome. It’s hard to rate battery, as my old phone really diminished over time. This one is obviously better… for now. Overall, a very worthy upgrade, with some minor touches still needing fine-tuning.

Extremely smooth and easy to use; A18 is supposed to be AI ready when it comes out, so we shall see. Also got a set of third party MagSafe charger, very convenient and functions as bedside phone holder for easily checking out time and status. Personally, I reckon if you're on 14 or even 15, then defo NOT worth it unless you want to sell the current one when you can still get a good price for it to compensate the cost. Otherwise there's no difference because the improvements are marginal.
The user did experience an unexpected reboot where the screen suddenly went black and the phone restarted by itself. For now, I think it's safe to chuck it under the category of "new phone glitches", should improve as iOS upgrades.

The camera on the 15 and 16 are hands down, fantastic. But there are glitches! Since activating the 16 it goes into another language (Dutch-to be exact) when I use safari ir google or some other random apps I have. Verizon blames Apple, sends me there. Apple blames google. However, they failing to understand that it’s not just happening on the Google app. It is also happening on apps that I have purchased from my App store through my Apple account. That’s on Apple not Google. No one really seems to be able to help so I guess I’ll just learn Dutch🙄. Next after any type of communication with somebody whether it’s via text via email or via phone call, I have to manually put the phone into sleep mode because it won’t do it on its own regardless of the setting I have it on. And even after I do it manually it randomly picks up what I’m talking about and will response. It will randomly text somebody or call somebody whatever widget or app my Bootie happens to come in contact with. It also goes into silent mode on itself.. overall just annoying

I ended up buying a phone with them and when I went to return the US Cellular phone, I was told that I only had 15 days to return it, and it was after the 15 days. I had thought I had 30 days, but didn’t remember correctly, so that was reasonable. I decided to pay off the phone and go with the other company. However, even if I paid off the phone in full, US Cellular would not release the phone access, even though it was now my paid up phone. I have to wait for three months in order to be able to change plans. The other company gave me a $40 cheaper phone and a lower monthly cost so the US Cellular phone ended up costing me a lot more. Why, when I have a paid off phone, I’m not allowed to use it with any company I want, I have no idea. I think a lot of the phone companies do this, but if you buy it at the Apple Store, you can use it wherever you want. So the phone is great, but US Cellular made the phone useless.

I upgraded from a 13 to 16 and noticed immediately the battery life was almost as bad as my old phone. It overheats and a performs self-dimming screen very quickly. Worst of all is that it does not sit flat and the angle it does sit at does not convey the vibrations on solid surfaces well. I've been on silent mode with iPhone since 2012 and have never had as much trouble with missing alarms and calls because I can't feel the vibration in my pocket or hear it vibrating on my desk. I am sure this was just due to rushed engineering for compliance with the new USB-C input. I do miss the elegance of the proprietary inputs that apple has always utilized. All in all, I'm sure this is just an off model in their series and will rectify these issues on their next release.

I ended up taking a transparent cover - total regret at this choice the next day . The cover shows every speck of dust entering the case which means that the phone has to be removed so it can be cleaned daily or it looks like trash. iStore apparently also have a time-activated vault as well as a policy of making you open the new device in store “to check it”. So there will be a couple of minutes standing around waiting for the vault to open and you won’t leave with a sealed device - not sure what you do if it’s a gift. Overall, love the new phone, retail experience could be better.

The new aluminium body is more lightweight. I drop my phone quite a bit, so the tougher screen appealed. Nevertheless, I bought a well researched screen protector and military proof clear case for added protection.
The new camera is light years ahead of my old one. As an artist, I wanted the 16 pro but it's a lot more and with research decided that the 16 would do the job.
As long as they continue to make good design central to their ethos and as I have everything Apple I am happy to stick with IPhones.
I also bought via John Lewis as there was £50 off and a 2 year guarantee.

The phone arrived the day after I ordered it from John Lewis at my local Waitrose. Setting up was easy from my previous, very old iphone SE. The 16 phone is far superior to the old SE, although slightly larger and heavier. The photographs are super. However, getting used to no longer having a home button has taken some time. I was lucky to be with some friends who have the same phones and were able to guide me through some of the features.
Also note that Apple no longer provide any downloadable instructions and it's all online, which means that you cannot learn how the iPhone works while for example looking at a PDF on one's iPad when offline. So without a book, you have to have another device online to learn how to use the iPhone 16.
I've given the iPhone 16 5 stars but if I was separately to rate the back up information, that would be 3 stars.

For this price not getting high refresh is a bummer, but you won’t notice it day to day. Call quality is better than old phone which is a nice surprise. Dynamic Island often tries to make itself useful. I really like this phone, partly for the IOS stuff but that’s not specific to this phone.

So I was disappointed with that. I don’t like how the camera lenses aren’t flush with the back of the phone. They can be broken a lot easier even with the covers on them. The extreme clarity of a picture isn’t important to me because the human eye can only discern a certain level of detail. To continuously upgrade the camera ability on these phones for more detail becomes moot after a point.

It will not back up to the iCloud. Also some of the apps won't open. I have not taken the time to delete the apps and try to download them again. Using chat for tech support has been absolutely, positively USELESS! After 1 hour 10 minutes of chat, with absolutely nothing being resolved, I was somehow switched to another person that said I was in the wrong department and would transfer me. I was then totally cut off. I haven't mustered up the patience to start all over again.

Besides turning on the camera directly and taking a photo with it, it has a feature where you can slide your finger up and down, not push, to change the zoom, therefore, the case has a pretty substantial cutout for direct finger access that makes the phone feel rather uncomfortable and unsteady in the hand.
I am hoping that over time I will just get used to ot, but I am not very confident in that. I would much rather change the zoom the old fashioned way, which you can still do and have this part of the case be flush the way they always have been.

First off I ended up with 2 sims on the new phone, 1 from my old provider and the second from my new provider. This was fixed.
The second issue was my banking apps. They all needed to be re-registered and this was quite time consuming. In addition the One Time Security Codes that were texted to me were erratic. Codes from some banks came through but some didn't. This is a major problem and I'm still waiting to get this working

However, I am not super impressed with the battery life, it seems to me that the battery is running out faster and I need to charge it more frequently. There is not a port that works easily for headphones so you need an adapter to get corded headphones that work with the phone, and you cannot charge the phone while you have corded headphones in (maybe you can if it is on a mag charger). Seems like they are basically forcing people to get airpods (which I did just breakdown and purchase despite concerns about brain cancer).

Everything matches, so it appears to be a genuine product. It’s a Made in India unit; I hope it performs just as reliably as the Made in China iPhones we’ve been accustomed to.

The phone was stolen before it was ever left at my house i have video footage where u can clearly see that the box was open and empty when it was delivered. Maybe stop using Best Buy tape and putting battery stickers on boxes so that the thieves in the mail business will rot open and steal your items. I paid for this phone in full! Had to cancel the charge on my credit card! It’s a shame what this would has come to.

detailedReviews 98: content: In all ways bar one it’s everything we’ve come to expect from iPhones. The screen is gorgeous, iOS as delightful and easy to use as ever, audio quality is wonderful. And then they go and ruin it by only putting 128GB of storage in it. I had filled it half way in under a week and I’m not a heavy user at all.
Apple always cut corners on storage quantities. They need to do better in this one area.

detailedReviews 100: content: A wonderful iphone. The base model is the sweet spot for the 16 series and the colour is beautiful. The Ultramarine really stands out for the base model and I think it's the best yet. Still adopting the latest processor rather than from the previous year was also a good move from apple. I have a future proof device that costs significantly less than the pro models.
