detailedReviews: detailedReviews 1: content: The actual DJI Neo product is five star...
But the actual activation of this product is a diabolical and abysmal process, and more so on Android phones, it sort of drives you insane, going around in circles trying to resolve it.
The support, on the DJI forum, will give you no clues at all, on how to activate the DJI Neo if your phone does not work with the latest 'DJI Fly' software downloaded from their website.
They just give the same default answer regardless, "Download the latest DJI Fly app from their website" There you will see, a very limited list of Android phones the DJI Fly app works with.
Then finally, after owning this drone for 3 days, I managed to find a way to activate it, via my old Samsung tablet (Android 7) and Ethernet lead, with USB C adapter to give me a data connection.
Now that the DJI Neo is flying, it does what it says on the tin. If I want to manually control, then it's via the tablet or compatible phone. (Or purchase a separate RC controller).
My phone, a Samsung A12(Android 12) detects the DJI NEO as a Bluetooth device, but fails to add it to the WiFi network. Other devices, like the computer, will show the DJI NEO on the WiFi network, not much use though, as it must be activated via mobile device.
Anyway, once you are past the activation debacle above, the drone is a great little device, very tough, and an ideal first drone, as is the case for me, and love the way it comes to land in your hand. I may well get an RC controller, as this gives you a better range with the ability to return to home if all goes AWOL. DJI just need to get their phone software sorted, and better support that actually helps, rather than driving you insane.

detailedReviews 2: content: The DJI Fly App isn't even available through the Google Play Store despite being officially supported by DJI. You have to sideload the app by downloading an APK through (hopefully!) their website and bypassing any security protections on your Android device. Should you still take the risk to install the app, it turns out after a lot of frustration that it will not Activate your drone without a celluar connection in addition to the WiFi connection that is used to communicate with the drone. What I consider worst is that there is no way to use the drone, even in Standalone Mode! until it has been activated, which is a major headache!
I have an older Android phone I wanted my child to use with the drone, but the App absolutely refused to Activate the drone as the phone had no Internet connection while the WiFi connection is used solely to communicate between the device and the drone. While the App gave absolutely no indication other than "Activation Failed", I had to pull a SIM card from another active cell phone and install it in the desired device to give it an internet connection to authenticate the drone before it would connect.
To summarize, I spent an entire evening getting this product to even connect, and never actually managed to get the drone to fly, though I am hopeful it is possible.

detailedReviews 3: content: A great starter drone, but what isn't said to you on the website, or by staff at JB HiFi, is that you require a VERY specific range of phones just to even get it going. It most definitely IS NOT a "straight out of the box experience". If you have a phone that is older than 2 years, forget about it. If you have a phone that is less than 1 year old you will get a security message stating the DJI Fly app is unsafe.
The list of compatible phones on the website is basically useless (as several of the models are no longer available in Australia) and VERY limited. Help chat, while appearing to be understanding, are most definitely ignoring your issues.
I am going to have to buy a new phone in order to use the drone. I was getting a new phone anyway, but it basically going to be pot luck for me if the phone I get will work :(

detailedReviews 4: content: I bought this prior to a joint fundraising challenge on Hadrians Wall. My partner regularly posts updates on Facebook including live videos, so we used this drone in follow mode so my partner could record the videos while walking. I wouldn't be able to do this using my older DJI Mavic Mini, so this new drone is a gamechanger for me. my partner, Rosemary certainly agrees with regular reference to 'Danny the Drone'. As with other similar sized drones, they don't like the wind as I found out when trying to launch in conventional mode, but as a vlogging device, this is brilliant for what we used it for.
Oh yes... Did I say you can launch this drone from the palm of your hand? No more looking for suitable launch sites, which was a massive plus for me and Rosemary. I would have shared videos, but they are too long to be shared on here, but overall, I was pleased with the sound quality as well. Would definitely recommend this drone.

detailedReviews 5: content: Note: This is my second DJI Neo. The first one didn't have a care refresh, and my FPV manual piloting skills could have used more improvement before trying to fly it for the first time on a very windy day (no fault of DJI).
Excellent product strategy from DJI.
This is an awesome entry into the world of DJI drones.
Do you want AI features so the drone flies itself? You got it!
Do you want to play around and control the drone from your phone? Yeah, it will do that, limited range, but it works.
Do you want to pilot a drone and do landscape shots? Buy the Fly More combo with the DJI remote for the longer range. See if its for you before moving up to a DJI Flip, or DJI Mini etc.
And the best part, have you ever wanted to fly FPV? To experience what it is like to fly?
Get the DJI Neo Motion Fly More combo to get the FPV goggles and try it out!
Then go full manual mode with the FPV Controller 3! (Use a simulator first)
Upgrade paths are DJI Avata 2, or DJI O4 system for proper FPV drone setups.
Is the camera quality good enough? YES.
You don't need a better camera to experience owning a drone.
Can it handle wind?
Sort of. I definitely had mine flying in conditions not recommended, it won't produce the most stable of videos.
Is it safe?
Yeah, sure is. Had it hit one of my kids when flying close to full speed, and there were no tears. Prop guards and the lightweight also help.
Do kids love it?
With the AI follow me, my kids love having the drone take off from their palm and chase after them.
Negatives?
Ummm, the noise it produces with the factory propellers is a bit high-pitched and annoying. According to YouTube, purchasing 5-bladed props mitigates this somewhat, but it also destroys your warranty, so I can't comment.
It doesn't seem to like doing steep dives in Manual FPV mode, but it's workable and still great for learning on.

detailedReviews 6: content: As a non professional drone user, Dji Neo really above my expectation. I used to dji mavic mini before and I remember using it very few 2 or 3 times a year. For me it's a hassle, u need to connect your phone and controller. With Neo, I'm bringing it almost everywhere, and I'm using it more as my own personal videographer. With it compact size, sturdy built, it's really fun to use. For the follow me features, it's really striving. I have tested while running and tracking me while on ATV, it's doing it job great mostly. But please remeber it's cannot fly over water! The sensors will go haywire and worst case it will crashed like mine. Luckily it doesn't crash into the water. I really recommend it for personal photographers and fun travel companion

detailedReviews 7: content: I have wanted to get into drones before but am not patient enough. My first drone was the spark, I sold it after it sat on the shelf for over a year. I felt there were safety issues (on my part) and it was too complicated.
I saw the Neo and decided to give it one more try. I love this little drone. No expertise needed! was able to fly it without a controller practically out of the box (had to register and read a few simple instructions). I then paired it to my phone and used the phone as the controller. So simple and intuitive.
got some great videos indoors and outdoors. Safe, easy to fly and good quality oics. If there is one thing on my wish list, it would be quicker transfers to the phone photo library. Other than that, you need this if you just want to have fun and are not looking to read a 200 page manual. Enjoy.

detailedReviews 8: content: After some research, I picked this drone as my first drone and I'm very happy with the purchase. After charging and updates, the drone is usable right out of the box and makes cool shots with the automated flight patterns. Watch a couple of youtube tutorials for great tips.
It was very durable and kid-friendly too - our 5 year old and 10 year old were able to learn to use the drone quickly. I highly recommend the fly more combo for the extra batteries and remote control. Batteries last about 10-15 mins each, so having 3 is very helpful and the remote is great once you want to "self-steer" the drone instead of using the standard settings.

detailedReviews 9: content: I am very happy with the Dji Neo, it flies on its own, using your mobile only, with the RC2, and Dji Fpv Goggles 3 and Fpv remote 3. Have all the accesories and I have a lot of fun, specially in Fpv. Very durable, probably because is so lightweight, only downside is a little high pitch noise whic is normal for the tiny props. I highly recommend for everyone, specially for the begginers, very easy to fly it and very safe due to its size. Buy more batteries, because its going to be fun. Flight time in Fpv full manual its 10-12 minutes, but a bit longer using the phone or on its own. Its very cheap for what it does! Buy with confidence!

detailedReviews 10: content: Its a gteat drone. Its got ultra stable 4k video and I like the feature where you can just be folowed round without using the remote. I have the DJI N3 remote, and it works flawlessly going up to 10km with no problems at all. This drone works better than my DJi Mini 2. L I like how to can use voice commands to do most of the work. I also like how you have all these different modes to enhance you drone experience. It can start from your palm and is great for capture the moments that count the most. Over all, the drone is probably DJIs finest work of art. I really suggest you should try it out for your self.
