I knew coming from Sony they would undoubtedly have great sound, but I was skeptical as to just how good the Active Noise Cancelling could be. I knew they had customizable touch control, but I didn’t know just how useful that would be and have been blown away by the Google Assistant integration.
First, lets talk sound. These Sony Earbuds are everything you’d expect in higher end earbuds and more. The Sound quality is excellent right out of the box. Whether listening to audiobooks or music or watching a movie, you get the high quality sound you would expect from Sony. But they didn’t stop there – Sony gives you an app that allows you to fine tune the sound to your own personal taste including a 5 Point Equalizer with several presets and several custom memory slots as well as a separate Clear Bass optimizer.
I was super excited about these earbuds because I’m not a huge fan of over ear headphones – I wore them on flights because I wanted the ANC, but the thought of accomplishing the same thing with just earbuds was a great proposition. And Sony did not disappoint. These little buds do an amazing job of cancelling out ambient noise. If the Bose over-the-ear cancel out about 95% of the sound, I would say these earbuds cancel out about 85% of the sound, which is an amazing accomplishment for something so tiny. And again, Sony doesn’t just give you and on/off switch for ANC – they built in a lot of functionality so that you can have full ANC or you can adjust it to allow more or less ambient noise to pass through depending on your situation. There is also a tap and hold function that will turn it off as long as your pressing on the left earbud so you can talk to someone (it also pauses whatever your listening to or watching) and then once you let go your media starts playing again and ANC turns back on – brilliant!
Having Google Assistant build into these buds is great! You can give any voice command you want Google to handle which of course is anything from making a call or sending a text to opening an app or skipping tracks.
Sony really though through everything with these earbuds. They didn’t just put out some of the best sounding earbuds with the most amazing active noise cancellation you could imagine in such a small package – they though through all the little things to give you every feature you could possibly want in wireless earbuds. Way to go Sony!

detailedReviews 2: content: [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The first thing you’ll notice is how perfectly contoured and comfortable they are while wearing them. Sometimes I forget I have them in, I’m not exaggerating!
The second thing that struck me was their ergonomic design. They are lightweight but durable and sturdy in the hand. The charging case was larger than average but that’s because they’re packing 32 hrs of juice on a single charge of the pack! With my Sony WF-1000XM3’s I’m getting around 7-8 hours of playback at a medium volume. The promised 90 minutes of playback after 10 minutes of charging is a true claim, I was very happy with that!
Sound: The Sony Headphones Connect app is available for free on iOS and Android, this app unlocks so many additional features. I was blown away at the level of control you can get if you want it, there is an equalizer that controls the tonality of your music and podcasts. You can achieve warm or bright styles of sound with the tap of a button in the app.
Performance: Because of their light weight these headphones simply stay put, they always seem unaffected by my movement. Wireless headphones with 8+ hours of playback runtime are unheard of, but Sony does it somehow. Forget about distractions because these puppies will drown out virtually everything around you, the various noise cancelling options can be changed on the fly using the touch panel on the ear bud, simply tap to cycle through the different default settings and customize them in the app if you’re a control freak like me.
Your ears are unique to you, Sony includes 7 pairs of various sized ear bud tips with different material qualities. This vital accessory is always an after-thought so I was happy to see that I had options. The different types of tips also changed the characteristics of the sound in my experimentation, I found the squishy type tips provided a better seal in my ears and improved the treble, bass effect and comfortability.
If you’re currently vacillating between different ear buds and the Sony WF-1000XM3, go for the Sony pair. I honestly don’t think you’ll regret your decision after hearing and feeling them in your ears. I’ve purchased many popular “high-end” brands of headphones, I wasted so much time on them before landing on this Sony pair. They were all nice but their fit left very little to be desired.
The sound quality is simply phenomenal and the noise cancelling tech is bar none the best I've experienced. My old wireless ear buds feel like kid’s toys compared to these!

detailedReviews 3: content: Let's start with the things I do not like. Adaptive Sound Control. When I was watching or reading reviews this sounded like a great thing, I may in the future use it should I be going through a train station or airport when it would be good to have it monitoring the environment and allowing announcements to come through clearly but on my regular commute (taxi or bus mostly) this is not needed. The reason I find this so annoying is that the transition from one setting to another is painful with the tone being played and then a brief moment of silence. None of the reviewers had described that so it surprised me.
Lack of volume control; Come on Sony, seriously? I am really hoping that this function is going to be added with a firmware update that will make me very happy. Play/pause is the number one thing I will use the touch control for, volume would come a close second.
What do I love? Firstly the design is top-notch. I have seen people complain that they accidently touch the touch-control when handling these, I have no problem with that, there is ample room to hold either earpiece between thumb and two or even three fingers. They sit comfortably in my ears and I have found that once they are seated correctly they will stay there. I don't exercise so I don't know about them holding fast during the vigour of sport or such. The case is beautiful if a little bulky but the earpieces are quite large compared to many others so it has to be that way, I wish the hinge on the lid had a little resistance when it was operating, I don't like how the lid will swing freely. I have bought a silicone sleeve to hopefully avoid scratching the lovely copper top, I just wish there was an official Sony case, I would have dropped a bit more money on buying that.
This is by far the most expensive pair of headphones I have ever purchased but they are certainly the best sounding that I have ever used by far. Sound quality tends to be quite hard to judge as it is subjective and personal to the listener, especially if you have no idea about bit-rate and what that means to what comes out of the speakers/ headphones. I listen to FLAC, I have a good set of speakers (2.1) attached to my PC and I appreciate the full sound you get with hi-def audio. That being said I wasn't expecting to hear anything new when using these, but I did. It would be cliché to say that it is like listening to music for the very first time but the experience has really been enhanced. I have heard some vocals where I could tell who it was singing, in the past I thought it was a guest artist on the backing vocal but it was clear that there was only one person singing. I have heard instruments that I never knew where there in the studio. I even heard a short conversation between two tracks that I’d never heard in the 18 years since that album came out. This could all be put down to the headphones I had used in the past being nothing special, but I had been happy with those and now I am amazed and ecstatic with these.

detailedReviews 4: content: If you are looking for the perfect wireless earbuds that include every single feature from wireless charging, small, compact and portable, waterproof, all day battery, multiple audio coding formats, durable and stays in your ears then it has yet to arrive, but in the meanwhile the Sony WF-1000XM3's are the best of the bunch in my opinion and here is why: The only truly wireless earbuds with active noise canceling, yes they are not the Sony WH-1000XM3 but the Sony WF-1000XM3 offers a decent experience when it comes to blocking those outside noisy environments and you can adjust how much ambient noise you want to hear through the Sony Headphones app. The battery life has been very good so far with active noise canceling on, I would say I do get the rated 6 hours on one charge and I love how the earbuds tell you how much juice they have when you first put them on through an audible voice letting you know the percentage and when they are paired. Talking about charge, one downside is that there is no indicator on the charging case that tells you how much charge there is left on the charging case, there is only a red light indicator when you plug it in to charge through USB-C cable and did I say USB-C, finally an industry must when it comes to cables not some propietary Lightning or yesterday's micro USB connections. The form factor of the earbuds is not bad, they tend to stay in my ears with the right sized earbud tips that are included with so many options and different materials to choose from also, they do sometimes feel like they are coming loose after a while, but they have yet to completely pop out of my ears. One thing that is not clear is if they are water resistant, by the looks of the Sony marketing material these are suited for your casual business or just walking outdoors type individual, so do not take them out in the rain and be weary if you sweat a lot during workouts. I think it is time to wrap up this review with the most important aspect of any headphone, the sound. The Sony WF-1000XM3 sound is balanced, the highs, mids and bass are all excellent and you can tweak the equalizer settings using the Sony Headphones app. I like to listen to my music at loud volumes which probably is not the best for your ear health, and one thing I noticed is that these wireless earbuds are not very loud even at the highest setting. So, if you are looking for one of the better premium options of truly wireless earbuds these Sony WF-1000XM3 deserve a buy.

They easily beat any other bluetooth headphones I have, even the bigger "can"-style sets which I paid an equivalent price for. They really deliver in every range - bass, mids, and highs, without sounding too boomy with that underwater quality. No tinniness at all. Honestly, listening to music on these kind of ruins other wireless earbuds for me - like eating a perfectly seared ribeye then going back to eating a microwaved steak at a chain restaurant. I'm also a big podcast and audiobook listener - I didn't think that sound quality really mattered much for spoken word, but it really is so much more immersive to listen with clear voice quality and active noise cancelling. Speaking of ANC, these are my first pair of headphone with noise cancelling, and I'm kind of hooked. I really like how it can be turned on and off so that I can choose whether I'm ignoring my surroundings or just looking like I am :). Seriously though, noise cancelling really contributes to hearing the full quality of the sound that the buds produce. Really nice build quality both in the buds and the case. Everything is super snappy and sturdy-feeling. For my ear size (medium), they cut a perfect profile, in my opinion. I really like the way they look in my ears. I would wear them out and about and not worry about looking like a goof or hyper trendy. I really like the copper accents, very classic.
Battery life is great with the included charging case. The case keeps them topped up and I plug that in maybe once a week. Never had a problem with wireless connectivity through the Bluetooth. They're totally seamless to pair and while listening.
The one caveat I will say about these buds is that they were not built as beaters for the gym. I definitely take them out for a run on a clear day, but I would leave them home in the rain or super sweaty conditions (think drenched headband rubbing up against them). Most competitor companies making these types of buds are targeting the casual consumer who wants to wear them in all conditions including sweaty workouts. These are made with audiophiles in mind - definitely the top of the line for sound quality.

It is also active and switches modes automatically as needed if you have this feature turned on in the app.
3) The size of the earbuds are a little bit bulkier than average. However, the quality and features packed into the size of the product certainly make up for this right way when you first hear the sound from these little speakers. They do fit well within the ear and there is not much of an issue of having them fall out as long as they are inserted properly. They do come with several different sizes of gel like ear pieces, and then the conventional style sizes to choose from.
4) They work with Google Assistant, Siri, and thanks to the latest firmware update Alexa has been added.
5) Sound quality coming from these little guys is just truly amazing. I don't think anything will ever beat a true quality set of over the ears. However, if you are a music buff, or just enjoy quality sound these are for you. The frequency response of these speakers is breath taking. Listening to soprano tracks of Whitney Houston voice capable of 5 octaves is a great testament to what the highs and mids and do for these speakers. As for the bass, I have NEVER heard such punching full deep sound from such a compact device. I'm still trying to fathom how they engineered that seeing how they need air displacement for the driver to generate deep crisp bass like these little guys do. You won't find another pair of earbuds that sound this good as of right now.
6) Battery life is great, I can play them all afternoon and still have a charge left. Toss them in the case and they are ready to go at 100% again in no time. The case itself can recharge the earbuds about 6 times without a recharge. Now thanks to the latest firmware you can tell how much battery level is left in the case via the app.
7) Sony's Engineering and Dev team is paying attention! Thank-you! The biggest downfall had seemed to be some people wanting volume control as a touch feature on the earbud itself. You could only control the volume via the device you were connect to, most likely a cell phone. In the latest firmware just release Sony has recognized this and allows the user to just this feature by toggling it on via the app. However, you must do without a different feature such as touch to talk. The fact that they came out with an answer to this problem and a few others so quickly shows they are still very competitive in the field of engineering and while the price may be a little higher, the quality of this product certainly makes up for it two fold!

The volume range is also pretty awesome, it goes to as low volume as possible and really high too for noisy places. But I never have to go to high volume levels because the active and passive noise cancellation of these buds are amazing, I can literally not hear anything from outside, ofcourse with the ambient feature turned off. Some of the settings can only be adjusted with the Sony headphones app, once I downloaded the app, it opened up lot more features that I was not aware of otherwise. The touch controls are programmable and work flawlessly. I am super impressed that the Google voice assistant is built into the buds, so its just a tap away. And finally battery life- oh its awesome. After listening to hours of music, there was still battery left, I just popped it back into the case, and the next time its fully charged again. The case is little bit bulky but I dont mind, because it has a bigger battery means less worry about charging the case. And last but not least, these super comfortable to wear without hurting ears, infact I should say, I prefer to keep them on always, even when I am not listening to anything, because these can filter out the noise pretty well. Overall, these are the best so far I have tried, most importantly the noise cancellation, competition doesnt even come close.

detailedReviews 9: content: [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I just want to start off by saying WOW! I couldn’t wait for my Sony WF-1000XM3 headphones to arrive, and when they arrived today I couldn’t wait to get them out the box and get them in my ears.
Opening the box I knew by packaging that everything was packaged so well that nothing would be broken and that’s always a relief. The headphones were snuggly tucked into packaging along with the charging case. Numerous ear accessories for many different ear sizes, along with the charging cable and manual were tucked underneath.
Once I downloaded the application to my smartphone setup was a breeze. Everything was step by step and you’re walked through. Having numerous different brands and styles of headphones I will say these are the most advanced pair I own. There are so many options and accessories. I was able to set an equalizer that suites my listening needs and wants. You’re able to set it for when you take on out it’ll pause your music. And you even have options to use Alexa or Google Assistant, which I’ve yet to explore.
I will say I was not disappointed when I connected my phone to these headphones! The clarity is amazing! From vocals, each individual instrument, and the deep bass, I was truly blown away!
I work in an industry where sound is very important. An industry being arenas and theaters. I will say these are by far the nicest headset I’ve every had and can’t wait to explore the many more options these have to offer. From hands free calling, battery life, Alexa and Google Assistant.
Having had a couple days now to explore I can truly say that I am blown away about every aspect of these headphones. I haven’t ran into any issues losing my media when paired with the Bluetooth, I’ve been able to go about doing chores around the house without carrying my phone around and haven’t encountered an instance of losing my media. And I have been able to go about doing lawn work as well!
I’ve had these headphones for days now and have yet to charge them and have put hours of listening in and am still at about 50% battery life! As with other headphones I’ll go to put them in the next day and encounter the they need to be charged message and have to postpone my tasks at hand.
Lastly there are zero distractions with the noise canceling aspect of these headphones, it’s like being in the recording studio live with every track that I’ve listened to. And they fit snuggly!
I honestly have yet to find a flaw with these headphones!

detailedReviews 10: content: I bought these to replace Sony’s previous flagship in-ears ( which have been ‘ borrowed’ by my daughter whilst she travels.
The charger/case is perfect to slip into a pocket or back and the magnetic closure is reassuringly secure. the headphones themselves are pleasant to hold and to look at and fit into my ears snugly and do not give the impression that they might easily be dislodged.
As it happens, my first ‘field test’ was literally that, 3 days at a music festival and all my impressions are positive. The sound quality is without peer, beating the previous ‘phones, not by much, but enough. But, the one area where these beauties wipe the floor with their older siblings is the rock-solid Bluetooth connection- the signal did not drop out once in almost three days of soak testing ( excuse the pun - it rained cats and dogs for two whole days!).
I listened to a variety of music mp3 and hi-res files via my Sony portable player and the headphones handled everything with aplomb. I also tried all of the settings- ambient and noise cancelling, though with so many people around me at a busy festival, ambient was my preferred setting out in the field though I reverted to noise cancelling back at my tent.
Battery life is impressive, I charged the case unit overnight before I left home for my trip used the ‘phones for hours each day, popping them back in the case overnight and they were ready to go again all day the next morning.
Even at home, these have now become my ‘phones of choice as I prefer them to bulky on or over ears that I also own.
If you are serious about listening to music and want to go truly wireless, why look anywhere else?
