Hinge edges chip easily, phone works beautifully

Google

Bought this phone back in August and love it! However, similar to the Flip 4, the edges around the screen, notably right above the hinge, chip easily and expose the rubber underneath. I was hoping the new gen would've had a stronger outline, but I guess not. Phone runs and works beautifully. But issues with the hinges don't make it worth it.

Compact, strong, minor screen cuts, sturdy build

Google

I bought this phone last year and it is quite compact and strong. I have dropped this phone many times and there are no major cracks or shatters. It should be important to note however, that the phone can get damaged by everyday regular use, as of typing, I have several small cuts on the screen. Regarding the structure of the phone, the frame is very strong and the phone case options are plentiful, it even has a case with a small ring on it to hold. The seam in the middle of the phone, where the phone folds, is hardly noticeable after using it for a week, I have to look hard to find it! All in all, this phone is easy to use, has great camera quality and a sturdy build. I would recommend this to anyone with some extra cash at hand.

Fits in pocket, scratches inside screen easily

Google

I switched to Samsung specifically the flip becuase it fits well in my hand and I would be able to fit it onto my pocket better while folded. Becuase i work construction the outside screen is so convenient for quickly checking notifcations/ messages and changing songs while keeping the inside/main screen clean and safe. Unfortunately I almost instantly scratched the inside screen as It's some sort of flexible plastic and I must have had a metal shaving on my finger or something. As well the back glass (not the screen but the part below) shattered as it's glass. The crease I'm the screen I'm no way bothers me but when I do check my phone at night yhe brightness is always so high even when set to low

Fits pockets well, delicate inside screen

Google

I'm very happy with the phone. The ability to fold it up small makes it fit so well in any and all pockets and bags. It works quite well too if I need to check the time, I can quickly slide it out of my pocket and see the time on the exterior screen, and it's very low key. Both screens are beautifully bright and vivid. I've had good performance and battery life.A few complaints: the inside screen seems surprisingly delicate. I typically have the phone closed when I'm not using it, and the outside screen is still unmarked. The inside screen though has some scratches and scrapes, notably three large ones where my thumb typically rests while using the phone one handed. I think the inside screen may just be more delicate. Additionally I got the ring handle case that was offered with the phone. Unfortunately it means I'm not able to take advantage of wireless charging, unless I remove the case and get a different one. I wish this had been mentioned somewhere, as I think I would've gotten a plain case instead if I knew it was an issue. On the external screen, if I'm playing music on Spotify, I have to press the button to wake the screen and then tap the widget to open the music controls. I'd prefer if it just went straight to music controls when I woke the screen. Less

Fits pockets easily, careful with metal particles

Google

I purchased a Galaxy Z Flip 5 recently and I love it. I am very happy with the phone overall. The main reason I purchased it was that it fits into my trouser pockets easily. Any other mobile does not fit well in my trouser pockets. However, there is one aspect that I overlooked when I was evaluating the phone. I have a hobby workshop where I undertake metal work projects. Unfortunately, a small chip of metal became trapped between the folding faces and this cracked the screen. It will be very expensive to have Samsung repair the phone. I just wanted to provide a warning to all users or potential users of this type of phone to be very careful to ensure that no particles are trapped between the screen before folding it. Always check and fold the phone carefully.

Poor durability and customer service issues

Product is poor. Customer service is horrible.I have purchased a Samsung flip 5 phone in August 2023. My workflow has been interrupted due to this ordeal and have to make several arrangements to be able to come back and forth to the store as well as deal with lodging the repair request and complaints related to this issue.I have done some investigation and found out that the issue with this type of device and model is rampant.Just with a brief investigation, I have already seen atleast 10 similar issues with the hinge which caused other phone related issues (I have file note them in case I need to further escalate the matter).Additonally, I have learned that there was a class action in UK for defective Flip phones in 2022.I consider myself lucky enough that I have some funds saved up for a replacement phone, however my heart goes out to others who are not as lucky that would be left without a working phone to use for their everyday commodity. And moreso to consumers that had this issue who are vulnerable and critically reliant on the mobile device for their health and well-being.Not sure if there are others considering seeking legal advice regarding this matter as it seems to be a growing issue. Less

Black spot at hinge, out of warranty help

Google

A black spot appeared at the hinge just a bit after a year. I've been a loyal samsung customer for many years, but customer service won't do anything to help since it's out of warranty now and it'd cost about the same as a new device to fix! I know a bunch of people online have this issue, a design issue with the phone hinge. Don't get this device! If you cared Samsung you would repair my issue with my screen due to YOUR design without charging an arm and a leg. Will be switching to Google when my contract is up

Screen deterioration at fold after 3 months

Google

Sadly I fell prey to this new "innovative" product. Everyday use and careful care only resulted in 3 months of use. I heard that this phone would be different from the other Samsung Galaxy z flip phones. However, I was wrong. The screen where it folds began to deteriorate from just everyday use to the point of being non usable. At first I had discoloration around the fold crease then it turned black. When I went to fold the phone after I saw the small black line on the crease I heard a loud crunch noise and stopped trying to close it. When I went to check on my phone I notice that more of the screen was glitching out and the top half no longer would respond to touch. A phone this expensive shouldn't break because of it's design. I wish I would of spent my money on a ... MoreSadly I fell prey to this new "innovative" product. Everyday use and careful care only resulted in 3 months of use. I spent more money for a less durable yet "innovative" design that is designed to eventually wear itself out because of its design. Less

Fragile screen, battery life issues, poor value

Google

The screen is too fragile to be installed on a 2025 phone. My THIRD screen is going out in less than a year. The thing you worry about most on a foldy phone is the screen and it is a liability to your $1500 purchase. Terrible purchase.. Battery life is less than sub par, gives me about 16 hours, and I'm a light user. This is an awful phone. It's not a step towards the future, it will set you back.

Screen stopped working, warranty is a scam

Google

Bought this 6 months ago, never been this disappointed with the phone in my life. Practically right away, it would periodically give me a black screen of death, until today, the screen stopped working completely. The warranty is a scam. They are asking to send the phone to them without providing a temporary replacement. What a joke. Never again will I buy another Samsung product.

Screen turned off after 2 months, poor repair

Google

This is the worst phone I've ever seen. Every year I pay a lot of money for Samsung devices, but this year was the worst. I bought the phone for my wife and after 2 months without any falls or bumps, the screen turned off. I had to wait 15 days to send the device to Texas to be repaired, something illogical when they should replace it with a new one. I will never buy a folding phone again.

Folding screen cracks from sun, widespread issue

Google

Very upset. Samsung advertised that the folding screen is "Durable!" That's a lie! I am a person that takes good care of my phones and never had a failed trade in and has gotten full credit. Less than a year (back in May) the sun shined on my screen and I first seen little cracks (vertically). I was amazed! Here we are in August and the internal cracks have gotten worse. This is obviously (seen on YouTube, Reddit, and comment section) a recall issue. It's widespread and unacceptable. Especially the money (pro grade laptop) they are charging. Love the phone and what it offers, but hardware wise it's cheaply made. Samsung reps act like they don't know this is happening (bad business practices) but the reviews on their website including mines is proof they know. Yes, ... MoreVery upset. Yes, I'm still under warranty but it will happen again until it's time to pay. What do I do? Trade it in for z fold 4 and pray it doesn't happen again while I still owe largely on it finance wise? That's beyond crazy and desperate. Samsung owes its customers more especially us long term loyal customers. What to do? Try other foldable that come out? Go back to candy bar shaped phones? I don't think so. Samsung offer your customers something beside just fixing a problem that would reoccur. Time to contact BBB. Less

Screen frosted and cracked, Samsung blamed user

Google

This phone was marked to me as durable, it is not. Within two months of getting this phone it was returned to samsung for repairs. The fold in the screen frosted and cracked and withing two days of this happening the entire screen was delaminated and unusable. Took it to my local Verizon and they said it should be covered under factory warranty. My local Geek squad could not fix it but also agreed that it should be covered under warranty. When I pulled the screen protector off to ship the bare phone to samsung as per there instructions the screen cracked more. Samsung deemed this my fault and after 6hrs on the phone with them being bounced from person to person they proceeded to charge me $ 378 for the repairs. Screen cracked twice, design failure, avoid headache

Google

I bought the flip 3 less than a year ago, the screen has cracked twice exactly the same way, in the same part. It starts like a little scratch that gets bigger until it doesn't respond anymore, samsung says it is due to physical damage.Common guys, it is not a coincidence that for thousands of people it cracks the same way. Photos are all over the internet. If you are thinking to get one of this, avoid yourself a headache and get another reference. The nice look doesn't match the price and quality of this device. Plus the anger you feel when they tell you you have to pay for the repair when it clearly is a failure in the design.

Screen broke after 2 feet drop, thin screen

Google

My screen broke after less than a month. It dropped 2 feet and the screen broke. Now the bottom of the screen works and the top doesn't. I called Samsung and the rep gave me the run around about how I dropped the phone and I kept replying that the phone should be more durable for the cost. I've had several phone and pretty much dropped them all, some even had the screen hit the pavement and I've never had a broken screen. Maybe I've been lucky, but I doubt I've even had a scratch. I did some further research on the phone and found out that the screen is thinner than a non-flip phone. 100% recommend staying away from flip phones until the screens are much more durable.

Hinge not working, phone broke, would not recommend

Google

I purchased this in December 2022 Within 2 weeks, the hinge wasn't working right, the phone wouldn't completely open. I could have replaced it, but replacements are sooo time consuming. I figured I would just deal with it. However, last week, it totally broke, maybe when it was dropped, but the phone would only flip open half way. Before I received my replacement, the screen went black. Now, I'm stuck with the replacement for the next couple years. I just decided I wouldn't flip it closed. MAYBE it will last. UGH!! Would NOT recommend this phone.

Still learning about & getting used to this new phone, but really loving it at this time! Tried the Circle to Search feature, works really great when you have the Buttons instead of Swipe gestures feature activated. However, I've been so used to swiping everything on this phone, that when the Buttons feature is used, I end up tapping the wrong buttons coz they replace the normal buttons or the area where I would normally start swiping on. So I would just toggle between Swipe gestures or Buttons when I wanna use AI, Circle to Search, or Samsung Notes. It's a learning curve, but I enjoy using the phone and all the neat features and suggestions and tips that pop up once in a while. Heats up quickly, password lockout issue

Google

Overall satisfied with the purchase however had some trouble setting up the account as the password got locked as it did not contain the required special character. Took over 24 hours to reset and be able to open the phone. It was a bit troublesome, however I am mostly concerned that it heats up pretty quickly. I was not doing much on it, and the front part of the screen was pretty hot.

Strange screen ratio trims apps, infuriating issue

Google

Got this phone a couple weeks ago. So far it's mostly good, but there is a really infuriating issue. For whatever reason Samsung chose a strange screen ratio for the phone when fully open, it's not as wide as most and this causes issues where apps like Insta, X, etc etc will trim pictures and videos cutting off the edges to fit the screen.Spoke to Samsung, they blamed the app developers even tho they are the ones using the strange ratio. It would be a really easy fix to have an option for apps to open into a smaller screen with black bars top and bottom to fix this issue, just make it selectable for those that want it and those that don't.If it was the first generation I'd forgive this issue, but it's 2024 and this is the Z Flip 5, this issue should have been ... MoreGot this phone a couple weeks ago. I'm sure the fold has similar problems. Less
